I randomly dyed up this little beauty yesterday.
It’s called Lavender and Light. Isn’t she amazing? The colors! The curves!
I popped it up on Facebook this morning and boom. All 20 tester skeins sold out lickety split.
I dyed approximately 160 skeins yesterday of various colors and I don’t know what it IS about yarn dyeing but it is exhausting!
To try and keep up with the demand, after listing new items, doing social stuff, announcing our $1500 July yarn giveaway and other general work, I dyed up 60 more skeins of this today and simply couldn’t go on. It’s listed again if you wanted it and missed out.
Our torrential downpour during the morning turned into a brilliantly sunny afternoon. Hurray! I love the rain really. But yarn just doesn’t like to get dry unless it has some heat and wind.
We’ve been working 7 days a week pretty much, trying to take days off, but it hasn’t really happened. The minute I start to relax, I want to knit or crochet and then of course I want to share it with you on social outlets and then I want to respond to your comments and then I check emails, poke around my website and… Well. I’m working again. It all flows together. Such is the life of a yarn shop owner.
I collapsed flat out on the floor and couldn’t move. Being overdramatic. But you get the point. Pecked on my phone. Tried to drag my body up and over to the stove to dye more. Couldn’t do it. Watched some Shark Tank and read some in the latest book I’ve discovered (through my nephew, Robi) Busting Loose from the Money Game. Brilliant book!
I could go on a tangent just about that… money’s not so much about what you know, but what you feel. Ah ha. “Tis true. Get the book if you love to read and want more money in your life!
Anyways. *takes swig of decaf coffee
Here I am, awake way past my bedtime (I prefer to go to bed around 7 or 8, but my schedule is all off and here I am being all crazy awake at 10 pm!), blogging about being tired.
Ironic.
In other news, we leave for North Carolina in 1 month exactly. Your comments on my post about our move just…moved me. Lovely, lovely gals (and a few guys) you all are. Love you back!
Many of you asked about the city we’re moving to. He he. Starts with a C and ends with harlotte. Ha ha! I find myself so funny sometimes when I’m not.
Get some sleeps and check back soon as I am going to keep you updated on the dye front. Lots of lovelies coming soon. One of the perks of lying prostrate on the floor unable to move from exhaustion is that your mind comes up with some great ideas and I figured out a way to dye a gorgeous, subtle rainbow yarn in no time flat. When you’re dyeing hundreds of skeins a day, every minute counts.
Thanks for understanding about all the colors selling out so quickly. We list, they sell. We list, they sell. It’s a good thing, of course. But we are working on some amazing things which will help with that issue a lot! Expansion is in the air!
Stay tuned. Much more excitement in the works.
Night.
Chandi
Hmm Chandi from Charlotte. I like it! And I know you will love NC, some of the nicest people I’ve ever met live there (such as my 7th grade boyfriend!). Can’t wait to start knitting with “Candy Coated” (as soon as my burned hand heals up. Cooking is dangerous.)
A good kind of tired is a good kind of tired. If it’s a result of being productive, it’s all good. 🙂
My best friend lives in Charlotte. It’s an amazing town and has a GREAT yarn store (Charlotte Yarn!). You’ll love it there! 🙂
Hard work is good for the soul…and the pocket book! Lol I love your creativity and so glad you get inspired so easily…who would have thought lying on the floor prostrate could help you come up with great dyeing ideas. Take time to get your rest though, being stressed and overwhelmed stinks. We appreciate everything you do and look forward to your next yarn creation!
I have some good friends in NC. One friend runs a sheep/duck/ox farm. Another friend is a cousin and his family.
It may be a bit warmer there than in Alaska….
Have fun moving! Last Fall, we moved from northern VA to eastern TX. We had 37 years of junk in the VA house. What a mess. Salvation Army loves us. Still clearing out the TX house too. I love TX – lower taxes, less traffic and more space/land. Found a wonderful Church next door to the house.
From Alaska to Charlotte? That’s a hell of a change. Watch for the weather, it’s a lot hotter and more humid. I have lived there and my mum still does, so I’m there a few times a year. Second the recommendation for Charlotte Yarn. There is also another relatively new shop across from South Park Mall, Sharon and Fairview.
You’ll love Charlotte. We’ll love adopting you as a Southern gal.
Remember to take care of Chandi during all this excitement, please. I hope your move is problem-less and adventure-full. The Carolinas are beautiful country (a bit right wing for my taste-older brother there for decades) but perhaps Charlotte will be more open-minded than the western side of the state by Asheville. For all you do-thanks so much.
Charlotte is such a pretty city. Just the place for you to be making your pretty yarns!
So excited you are moving to Charlotte. I have lived here since 1988 and love it. We have a fabulous group of yarn stores as well as indie dyers and spinners. Hope to see you when you move here. Such a positive addition to Charlotte. So much to do here too.
Ginny
Thank you sooo much for your good kind of tired, ’cause you make a lot of people smile. Whether it’s your beautiful yarns, your awesome stories, or just you just being you, we your customers, your fans, and friends love it all! You not only have a successful business, I believe you have a LOT of fun doing it, and I, and I’m sure many more of us, hope for your continued success while you travel on to new things. Best to you and hubs! Safe journey!
Some of my family lives in Huntersville (a suburb) of Charlotte. Lots to do there and you are close to the mountains and beach! I live an hour and a half to the west in Kernersville (between Greensboro and Winston-Salem). Welcome to North Carolina!
Choosing the middle “section” of the state is a brilliant idea. 🙂 You’ll always be just a day trip away from your choice of either mountains or beach! Think of all the color inspiration opportunities! 😀
So anyway, thank you so much for all your hard work. On this side of the transactions, I just kind of sit amazed and gawking at all the amazing things you come up with. And knowing very little about what it takes to run your own yarn biz, I’m sure you stay super busy. Yet you still have excellent customer service! You are so appreciated, Chandi! <3
I live in eastern NC, but when we visit the in-laws I will come to see your new shop, if you have a storefront!
Hi, Chandi – I am from North Carolina, originally (Asheville), and you’ll love Charlotte!! I also wanted to point out, there is an extremely large fiber group there, and festivals, like SAFF in October, that you will be interested in. If you listen to podcasts, check out Carolina Fiber Girls – they are from the Charlotte area and you should totally hook up with those girls!
Ohh this color is delicious! Make sure you make you time….often what we love can drain us, and that’s no fun! Get a guilt free pedicure and indulge in reading away your afternoon once in awhile!!
You’re amazing….a one woman show, SUPERWOMAN! Thanks for all you do, inspiring us little folk to make our dreams come true 🙂
WOW – I would be ecstatic to win this!!! I’ve NEVER won anything in my lifetime!
My dream is to live life to its fullest and try to bring joy to all those I encounter. Bucket list is too long so if I accomplish this one dream, I’ll be a happy camper!
I have been a nurse for over 30 years. Last year I became the patient. For this last year I have used knitting and crocheting to distract me from pain and fatigue. I am now going to teach patients with physical and mental illness knitting and crocheting for the therapeutic benefits.
Really liking the Lavender and Light colors. It still looks nice compared to Lavender and Light 2. I think this one is more for the lighter side of the colors; the subtleness and gentleness of things.
