        Good job, Heather!
I wanted to be a nurse since I was 5. My mom got me a little nurse’s uniform at that time for Christmas. Years later, as my favorite Great-Aunt was dying from breast cancer, she made me promise I’d follow my dream and become a nurse. I eloped at 18 and didn’t get to nursing school until I was 30, but began my dream and kept my promise. Because of my love for nursing I continued my education in my 50s and got my graduate degree to move from bedside nursing on my cardiovascular unit to Nurse Manager of the same unit. Recently I retired after more than 32 years as a nurse on that unit. It was a thrill and privilege to serve my patients and staff!
        Never give up your dream!

As a kid I loved animals so I wanted to be a veterinarian. My grandfather instilled in me the mantra “you must make the world better somehow for you being in it” so I figured animals gave people such joy I would help the animals so they could continue to give people joy.

I am not a vet now, however, my love of animals continues and I own three horses that each year I take to various events (Children’s Hospitals, Agricultural days) where children may pet and interact with them. The look of wonder and amazement on the kid’s faces gives when they stroke the soft coat of the horse gives me great joy to see.

Thanks Grandpa! You were the best teacher ever!

When I was young, I dreamed of becoming a teacher like all little girls. Then my taste for helping others gave me the idea of becoming a social worker. Then at the age of rebellion become a lawyer to defend people against the wicked. To finally become an accountant. I have no regrets but without the fears at the age of 16 I would have done something else. With the experience I have today we must overcome our fears and go for it. That’s why I challenge myself to create my own tuque pattern for the next year 😀

I just wanted to be a loving Mother to a small family. Well, I met my goal (She did not) I got married at the age of 25. At age 28, I gave birth to my son and at age 30 I gave birth to my daughter. I love doing crafts, and I love teaching. My goal now at the age of 65 (disabled and retired) is to have a home business of teaching crafts. I’m still poor but I am very happy and grayeful for my life. Winning this giveaway would be such a blessing. I think I would use the yarn to start a class making hats, scarves and mittens for the homeless.

Oh, sweety. That’s a bittersweet memory. I wanted to be a lawyer for YEARS – it’s what my daddy wanted for me. But, after he passed, I couldn’t just spend my life in school for what felt like forever. I also didn’t think I had that ‘kill spirit’. I’m a big ole softy, lol. I do miss the checks I would have been bringing home! 🙂 Seems it all worked out for the best, though – I work for a company that I LOVE, with amazing coworkers, and a fabulous boss. I’m blessed.

I didn’t know what I wanted to do. My 1st love died 10 days after I graduated from high school and I was left confused and depressed for awhile. My mom finally decided that I was going to go to become a hair dresser. Well that made me snap out of my funk, and I finally spoke up and said no that I wanted to be a nurse. That’s exactly what I did, and I worked as one for the next 46 years until I retired.

When I was a child I really wanted to be a Veteranian. I was always better with my dogs and fish then others. Then a few years later I discovered my love for books, and with my lovely local librarians care, I grew to love libraries. So after a while I wanted to be a librarian like those who encouraged me to read and learn.

A few years after that, I went to a forest and fell in love with the beauties and mysteries of nature and all her creatures, so that spurred me into wanting to be a park ranger who protected the land around us that I grew to love so much.

I wanted to be a mom & a doctor of medicine when I grew up. Struggle with infertility in my adult years pushed me to the library to learn everything I could about pregnancy/labor/birth. I stumbled onto a book about traditional midwifery. I dove head first into homebirth midwifery and got pregnant shortly after. I have been studying midwifery for almost 17 years now off and on. Im grateful that I became a momma prior to my studies in medicine as that is what led me to the midwifery model of care. I work in the field of medicine now as an RN but studying midwifery changed my life. Women are powerful and I try to bring that into my nursing work daily.

Growing up in a small town in the Midwest I wanted to have a career in a big city. I loved to draw and paint so I became a graphic artist. I also wanted to own a bakery and make people happy with all the wonderful cookies, pies and carmel pecan rolls my grandmother taught me. I have taught my own daughters how to bake. The possibilities are endless when you are a kid.

When I was growing up, women only had a few options – mother/wife,teacher, nurse – you get the idea. It seems impossible now that this was ever the case. My problem was that none of those really appealed to me. – so honestly I never gave it much thought.

I always wanted to be a fashion designer. My dolls never wore the clothes they came with, i used scarves, rags, any fabric i could get to dress them. I was gonna do custom designs for my clients.

I didn’t just want to work with animals when I was a kid, I wanted to grow up to be a dog or a horse. Lol! Unfortunately it turns out you can’t change your species, so instead I have lots of pets.

I wanted to be a teacher, a veterinarian, or a writer. As an adult I realized the first two were not at all a for for my personality.
