Hello, my sweet! Today, we are releasing our third clue for our yearlong Mystery Knit Along blanket. Read on to learn more and to find out how you can still join in on the fun!
Perseverance was designed by Jane Vanselous. She says, “Large projects can seem daunting, especially when they may stretch your skills. Breaking them up into manageable pieces is a great way to approach them. In this Mystery KAL blanket, you will work just one section at a time. Each section uses one color and focuses on one stitch pattern. Some of these will be repeated in later sections. Using this method, all you will need is a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a little perseverance to be successful!”
This pattern is an Adventurous Beginner level pattern and is for those knitters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations.
Perseverance is made with 12 skeins of our Enduring Worsted or Luster Worsted yarn. We will have two color options for each month – a cool color and a warm color.

For March, the cool color is Caricia, and the warm color is Furiends. However, you can make your blanket with any colors you choose. Please note, swatching is important to ensure that your blanket edges are even and that you have enough yardage to complete your monthly section, as you should only need one skein per clue.

I really enjoy the patterns that I have I’m ordering some as soon as I get my money that I got coming in the mail. I have bills to pay first then I am going to send in all my orders.
I love all of the different weights and contents and colors of yarns that Chandi has to offer . I’ve been a knitter since I was 9 and am enjoy this yearly knit . I’m always done way before the next month’s instructions.
I’m using my homespun also with the monthly yarns cause I can’t afford these skeins monthly .
So, on the border pattern row. I’m a bit lost because it calls for 8x of p, purl the two tog, than 10 of purl all three tog, than another 9 similar to the first 8. But 8+10+9, that’s 27. What do you do with the rest of the stitches?????? That does not explain clear nor the video??? Someone please help. Am I doing this wrong?

Here’s how Row 181 works.
The “sl1, p1, k1, p1, sm” at the beginning uses 4 sts and produces 4 sts (no change in stitch count).
And then this is the part where I think you’re encountering the issue: “[(p1, p the yo and sl-st of previous row tog) x 8, p the next st plus the yo and sl-st of previous row tog (decreasing 1 st)] x 10. Note that you need to do the entire sequence 10 times, not just the part after “x 8.”
So in the first parentheses the part that you knit 8 times, you use 24 sts and produce 16 sts (1 st decreased every time you purl the yo and sl-st together). Then you purl 3 sts together to produce 1. That’s what that “decreasing 1 st” refers to. So having worked what’s in the brackets once you should have 17 sts (16 sts + 1 st). You then repeat everything that’s in the brackets for 10 times total (17 sts * 10 times = 170 sts).
The final (outside of the brackets) “(p1, p the yo and sl-st of previous row tog) x 9, p1” uses 28 sts and produces 19 sts. When you purl the yo and sl-st together you decrease by 1 st each time for 9 times.
The “sm, (p1, k1) x 2” at the end uses 4 sts and produces 4 sts (no change in stitch count). So you then have 4 sts + 170 sts + 19 sts + 4 sts = 197 sts.
Ooooohhh i get it! So p1, p the yo and sl-st tog 8x, (p the yo and sl-st of previous row tog) once, then repeat the whole process 10x.
I’m enjoying the Perseverance Mystery KAL and find your video clips very helpful in regard to knitting stitch formations. I was wondering though if you could mention what the approximate dimensions of the blanket should be when finished? I am also wanting to make some color changes within the blanket and use a combination of 4 harmonious jewel tones. Will the blanket be knit from start to finish in one continuous piece, or will there be separate sections that will require seaming to assemble when completed? The reason I ask is that I am trying to figure out where the best places in the pattern to make my color changes (color-blocking style as opposed to striped effect). Could you please advise me as to what you think would cause the best outcome and visual appeal for this blanket? I’m sort of knitting ‘blind’ here ;D , which I suppose is part of the intent in a ‘mystery knit-along’ 😀 Anyway thanks for taking the time to read and reply.
The finished size is approximately 43” x 66” (109 x 168 cm). You’ll find that information on page 3 of the pattern. The blanket is knitted from corner to corner in one piece, so there’s no seaming involved. So as designed, it does create a striped blanket as you move through the 12 clues/colors.

Oops, sorry I posted my first comment before I realized that I DID NOT have the pattern updates coming to me in email because I wasn’t logged in when I initially signed up for the MKAL. Duh me 😉 I’ve got it figured out now and have downloaded and printed the complete sections 1 thru 3 that have been released so far. Obviously I am still knitting section 1, which seems appropriate for me to have joined a MKAL titled “Perseverance” 😀
I’m a little confused on Row 158 – *YO, SLWYIB, K1* to marker. Isn’t the YO an increase yet the stitch count only increases by 2 for row 160. (no increases in 159 so guess that’s the to M1’s.

As I understand based on the discussion in the Ravelry MKAL thread, Jane, the designer, is counting the yo and slipped stitch as one stitch in row 158, since they are knitted together in the following row.
