Hello, sweet soul! Today, I have a gorgeous, geometric blanket pattern for you, and I think you’re going to love knitting this fun, quilt-inspired design. Keep reading to learn all about this stunning blanket!
Helix was designed by J. Miyo. When asked about this pattern, J. said, “Helix is inspired by a traditional quilt block called Snail Trail. The name comes from the genus of land snails whose shells resemble the spiral of the quilt block pattern. The construction of this blanket is similar to that of the quilt block, in that it starts from the center squares and grows outward. With this modular design, only one color is used at a time, making this an easy way to incorporate multiple colors without having to learn any complex colorwork techniques.”
This is an Adventurous Beginner level pattern that is perfect for knitters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Concepts include decrease stitches, picking up stitches along edges, color changes, and placement of sections. The pattern includes written instructions, as well as a schematic, and comes with a video tutorial.
Helix is knitted with our luscious Pearlescent Worsted yarn, which is shimmering, heavenly, and wildly popular! It’s a delicious, glowing blend of 50% Superwash Merino Wool and 50% Mulberry Silk that’s luxurious, soft, and gleaming and has 220 yds/201 m per skein. When you combine these fibers into a single-ply yarn, you get subtle differences in tone, as the wool and silk take the dye differently. The colors truly appear to be iridescent!
The sample shown here was knitted with our Limerence Hues Pearlescent Worsted Kit and used approximately 1,760 yds/1,609 m total (or two kits). Gauge is important in this pattern, as the blanket uses almost all of the eight skeins in two kits.
We made a video tutorial showing how to get started knitting this pattern. Grab your needles and yarn, and cast on with me!
