Hello, my cherished fiber friend! This week, I have a lacy, mountain inspired pattern that I am over the moon to share with you! Keep reading to find out more about it!

Rainier was designed by Jane Vanselous. When asked about this design, Jane said, “One of my most memorable family vacations was a trip we took to the Pacific Northwest in the summer. The weather was picture perfect, and we were able to experience so much of the beauty provided by Mother Nature. A daylong hike around Mt. Rainier was the inspiration for this shawl. The crystal blue sky, peaks of the Cascades, icy blues of the glacier, and greens of the meadows dotted with little wildflowers are all represented in this design.”

“Construction of the shawl begins in the center and is worked in rounds to form a square. Two sides of the square are then worked flat, changing colors and stitch patterns until the scalloped edge is completed. Returning to the remaining two sides, the patterns are repeated to reach the other end of the shawl. Garter stitch with simple lace patterns keep the knitting interesting without becoming overwhelming for an intermediate knitter.”

This Intermediate level pattern is suitable for knitters who have completed several projects. Construction includes a Magic Circular cast-on method, which radiates outward to each end. Simple lace patterns include working yo’s and k2tog, and w&t short rows.

Rainier was made with our Pearlescent Fingering yarn. This yarn is a dreamy, luxurious, creamy, fingering weight yarn that’s ideal for next-to-skin accessories like cowls, shawls, scarves, hats, and much more! It’s a blend of 50% Superwash Merino Wool and 50% Mulberry Silk that’s unbelievably soft with a lovely drape and a shine that just won’t quit! When you combine these two fibers into a single-ply yarn, you get subtle differences in tone, and the colors truly appear iridescent and other-worldly! 550 yds/503 m per skein.

The sample shown here was made with our Devoted Hues Pearlescent Fingering kit. The sample shown used approximately 940 yds/860 m total: (A) 230 yds/ 210 m, (B) 445 yds/407 m, and (C) 265 yds/242 m.

We made a video demonstrating how to work the Magic Circle Cast On that’s featured in this pattern. Take a look!

The pattern contains both written and charted instructions.
