Hello, beautiful soul! Today, I have two versions of a lovely, asymmetrical shawl to share with you. I really think you’re going to enjoy crocheting this fun design, and did I mention the super cute stripes? Keep reading to learn all about this week’s delightful pattern!
Splendid was designed by Janet Pippin. When asked about this pattern, Janet said, “Splendid is a wonderful, boomerang-shaped shawl. This shawl has a brilliant appearance with the movement of a solid color through contrasting color stripes. Drape Splendid around the shoulders like a shawl and pin in place, or wrap it around your neck like a cozy scarf.”
“Splendid features a four-row repeat, and the only difference between the row repeats is how they begin and end. Alternating double and single crochet stitches in each row brings in just the slightest bit of texture. This shawl was designed to really let the yarn colors themselves shine. The solid stitch pattern, along with the varying widths of the stripes, allows for strong contrast colors to stand out nicely.”
This is an Adventurous Beginner level pattern that is perfect for crocheters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Concepts include decrease stitches and color changes. The pattern includes written instructions only and comes with a video tutorial.
- Burgundy Mirage Sport
- Fool’s Gold Mirage Sport
Splendid is crocheted with our luxurious Mirage Sport yarn, which is heavenly to work with. Soft, silky, and just the right amount of drape! It’s a lush blend of 70% Superwash Merino Wool, 10% Natural Baby Camel, 10% Cashmere, and 10% Mulberry Silk, which creates a perfect harmony of warmth and sheen. Every stitch glides effortlessly, and the finished fabric looks refined and elegant. Mirage Sport has 350 yds/320 m per skein.
For our first version of the Splendid shawl, we used two skeins of Burgundy Mirage Sport and one skein of Fool’s Gold Mirage Sport. That sample used approximately 910 yds/832 m total: Color A: 600 yds/549 m and Color B: 310 yds/283 m.
Our second sample was crocheted with one three-skein Reminiscent Hues Mirage Sport Kit and used approximately 857 yds/784 m total (Color A: 304 yds/278 m, Color B: 350 yds/320 m, and Color C: 203 yds/186 m). The colors were used in the following order: A) Medium Pink, B) Dark Pink, and C) Light Pink.
We made a video tutorial demonstrating how to crochet this shawl. Grab your hook and some yarn, and get ready to work a few stitches with me!
