Hello, my sweet friend! I’m so excited to announce our 2026 Winter Crochet and Read Along! We’ll join together on Ravelry to crochet the stunning Crystalline shawl pattern, while also reading Eowyn Ivey’s The Snow Child together. Plus, there will be prizes at the end of our event, so I hope you’ll keep reading to learn how you can sign up and join in on all the fun!

Our featured pattern for the Winter Crochet and Read Along is Crystalline, which was designed by Carolyn Currier. When asked about this design, Carolyn said, “Crystalline is a top-down crescent shawl worked in thirteen colors, each surrendering to the next — the way light changes in winter, imperceptibly until it isn’t. Starting in the silver half-light of a winter in progress, moving through the deep grey of frozen ground and out through sunset reds, warm gold and earth, before arriving, finally, at the cold blues where the story began.”

“The crescent shape drapes beautifully over the shoulders, wrapping you in winter like an embrace you didn’t know you needed. Snowflake stitches are scattered through the fabric. There is a particular kind of love that knows it cannot hold on, but recognizes that things do not end, they only change.”

This is an Intermediate level pattern that is perfect for crocheters who feel comfortable with crocheting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include: ch, sc, hdc, dc, tr, FPdc, BPdc, sl st, working in flo and blo, and other special stitches. The pattern includes written instructions and a schematic and comes with a video tutorial.

Crystalline is crocheted with our divine Allure Fingering yarn, which is made from 100% Mulberry Silk. There is truly nothing quite like working with pure silk! It has a naturally cool, fluid feel in your hands, a luminous glow that seems to catch the light from every angle, and a drape that moves like water. Silk is both strong and elegant, creating fabric that feels sumptuous against the skin and wears beautifully over time. Every stitch feels refined, special, and quietly luxurious, turning even the simplest project into something extraordinary.

The sample shown here was crocheted with one Northern Wild Hues Allure Fingering Kit [218 yds/200 m per skein (2,834 yds / 2,600 m per 13-skein kit)]. The colors were used in the following order: A) Snowbound Twilight, B) Held by Snow, C) Winter’s Breath, D) Birch Ghost, E) Breath Between Worlds, F) Moon Over Alaska, G) Silent Forest, H) Born of Winter, I) Tracks in the Snow, J) Unspoken Longing, K) Child of Snow, L) The Wild Girl, and M) Frozen Riverbed. Gauge is important in this pattern. Please take the time to work a blocked gauge swatch, as you may run out of yarn otherwise.

We made a video in which I show how to crochet all the special stitches used in this pattern and share more about our 2026 Winter Crochet and Read Along event. Take a look to learn all about it!
