Hello, my sweet sunbeam! I have a lovely pattern for you today. Our pattern this week is a lacy shawl named Embers. I do hope you’ll read on to learn more about it!

When asked about her pattern, the designer Jane Vanselous said, “This crescent shaped shawl is designed for three gradients of Amal Fingering. The bits of linen in the yarn provide a little extra texture and give the shawl a slightly rustic look. The strongest color should be used in the border, as it is what will be most prominent when wearing the shawl.”

“Four different stitch patterns are used in the body of the shawl. Each stitch pattern includes shell stitches, which ties the designs together. By stacking the shell stitch combinations in three areas of the shawl, an angular edge is produced. The stitch patterns also gradually progress from a fairly dense fabric to a slightly open lace design. The shawl is finished with an easily worked border design that creates a pretty, scalloped edge.”

Embers is made with our limited edition Amal Fingering yarn. This yarn is a delightful, 3-ply, linen-blend fingering weight yarn with gorgeous drape and a subtle glow from the silk. It is soft and flowing and is dyed in heathered shades with hints of undyed linen. Amal Fingering is a blend of 60% Baby Alpaca, 20% Linen, and 20% Mulberry Silk.

To crochet Embers, you will need one skein each of Colors A, B, and C. Our sample is shown in A) Artistic, B) Create a Vision, and C) Motivation Amal Fingering and used approx. 1015 yds (928 m) total: A) 390 yds (357 m), B) 380 yds (347 m), and C) 245 yds (224 m).

Be sure to order all you need for your project because once these colors are gone, they are gone!

This Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate pattern is for crocheters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Stitches include six different stitch patterns consisting mainly of combinations of single, half double, and double crochet. Crocheters should be comfortable working with long repeats and/or able to read charts.

We filmed a video tutorial on how to choose the best crochet hook for you. Take a look!
