I finished my Honey Cowl!

I’ve worn it nearly everyday since!

(My boo and I were getting my slow-leaking tire fixed at the local Chevron, so I stood next to their white wall and insisted he take my picture! I have to say, I’m wildly in love with these pictures. I look thin and pretty and grown up! )

Pattern: Honey Cowl

My notes: The pattern couldn’t be easier. So simple to memorize and you can just knit away, while talking or watching tv or whatever. It is one of those magical patterns that have disappearing properties. You knit for an hour and can’t see that you’ve made any progress. So you knit for another hour. Mmm… Maybe there is a millimeter more? Not sure. 🙂 I think I counted 14 rows = 1 inch, due to the slipping and whatnot. It shrinks into itself, producing a dense, warm, waffly fabric, which is great, but if you’re a slow knitter, I wouldn’t start this the night before you need a present.

Yarn: Plymouth Yarn, Dye For Me, Baby Llama DK

I dyed this a rich charcoal gray, since I’m in love with gray in all its shades right now. I adore the softness of the baby llama. And it is WARM. I held up signs for a friend the other morning in 30 degree weather (it’s voting time!!) and really didn’t get too cold, thanks to this scarf and my other knitted gear!

I believe llama yarn is essentially like alpaca (which is more readily available). They are technically hair, not wool, but they are referred to as wool by most.

Most hair of this sort has a hollow inner core, thus explaining the incredible insulating properties. Seriously, this stuff is HOT. I’m so excited for 40 below weather! It’s been in the 30’s and 40’s here lately and in truth, this llama Honey Cowl is a leeeetle warm. Especially inside. I always have to take it off.

But basically I’m in love with the cowl. I highly recommend both the pattern and the yarn!

(Blocking: The process of wetting your finished piece and laying or pinning it into position to dry. I didn’t block this. I think maybe I should have and still might, but honestly, I didn’t feel like it. That’s the truth of it. And I think it looks fine without it. I wear it wrapped twice around every time anyways)

Next post… My qiviut yarn! I finally finished spinning it and can’t wait to show you!
