What beautiful yarn! I have been knitting on and off since I was in high school..I knit with a group of ladies in a second hand store once or twice a week. When we knit, politics and religious backgrounds are put to the side unless it is part of the story that is told. I love the age differences, the life stories and the love of these friendships that are woven into the different patterns we work on. The oldest member is in her 90’s the youngest is ten. When my husband had a heart attack a few years ago, there was a beautiful shawl that was given to him. We then pasted in on to his mom who used it on a daily basis to keep warm.

I can tell you love yarn and what your doing Chandi. It shows!

I’m working on a year long mystery KAL that is beginner colorwork, trying to expand my knowledge. The creativity lies in that I’m using two 6 mini skein gradient sets instead of just two skeins, so I’m trying to get creative with the color choices as we do not know the colorwork patterns for each month.
My other two WIPs are a cowl (pattern from Knit Fit) and a scarf (with 100% cashmere, delicious!)

My creative project right now is focused on making various flyers and images for my (newish) business adventure – teaching knit and crochet.to new (mostly young) students. Even in teaching, I have to come up with a variety of ways to help the children imagine the way the yarn interacts with itself, or the hook/needles, not to mention come up with fun activities that will keep them engaged! Wearing art that I hand-made myself (even if I’m not designing, I do a pretty good job at making!) and inspiring young people to do the same — it leaves us all feeling pretty good inside! <3

I am currently working on a reversible hat. Making your 4 ways to wear it hat broke my bank! Everybody (and their kid) wanted one.

Have to say, this give away entry is insincere. I don’t think I could give away anything I made with the yarn–mine all mine. The colors give me a headache thinking of killer slippers/pj jacket to match. Hat with must have lace design. Duh fingerless to match all of that. Legwarmer vs sock — less wear. seriously, a cowl you wear so much people suspect you sleep in it?

On second thought, don’t pick me. My fingers could start to have probs

At the moment I’m between projects. I just finished a baby afghan and hats for a friend who had her baby more then 3 months early on Christmas Eve day. I also made her a pair of booties using leftover dewy dk yarn from the Sona hat I made for myself! I think I want to make myself a cardigan but the question is which one with which type of squishy lovely yarn! So many tough decisions! Maybe I’ll just cuddle with my yarn instead.

My daughter gave me three skeins sock yarn. I made gloves first, now I’m working on a shawl, then I’ll be making socks!
Also, I have on the needles a kimono sweater from lightweight yarn, turning an eyelet pattern into fancier lace by using a different weight!
I’ve also stalled on a chunky weight cocoon sweater. It uses a pine cone stitching pattern, but where the sleeves divide are giving me fits!

I am currently working on a variety of items, for a large group of people who are basically ‘in need’. A charity organization provides transportation for people ranging from infants to seniors, We all meet at a lovely location, for distributing goods, providing education about various resources, and healthcare needs. Some basic healthcare screening is also provided. Some individuals are financially struggling, some are living with disabilities or fighting a variety of medical conditions. The individuals are so kind, and grateful. The children that come are so well behaved and I think they sense the ‘vibe’ of giving and hope. Lots of smiles and hugs go around. What a great way to start out the New Year!

    Hello,

Currently, I am working on a feminist-themed series. The piece is a mixed media of photography transferred onto fabric with embroidery and knitting. It is going to be lifesized and depicts my chosen models in the nude. Each model, of different ages and ethnicities, has their own story to tell. Each story is different, but also relatable to many. By being nude, they are leaving themselves open and vulnerable, but also standing up for truth, their truth. A lot of these stories include situations of abuse, depression, and other troubles. However, by presenting oneself in the nude, it can be empowering… and has a level of bravery to it. Traditional, embroidery and knitting are considered simply a “woman’s craft.” By using these materials for a woman’s theme series that is considered “fine art”, I hope to bring a new purpose and meaning to the material itself. The embroidery and knitting will be used to help add details to better tell the model’s story.

Once I find the perfect pattern, I’ll be casting on the “Black Widow” alpaca/silk yarn. It will be something cozy and comforting, a cowl perhaps; because it reminds me of the night I was evacuated during the Northern California firestorm in October. The colors remind me of the thick black smoke and bright red flames in the darkness of night; but somehow I find this yarn comforting. My neighborhood was spared so it reminds me of the courageous first responders and the love, compassion, and generosity of the people around us. It tells me how lucky I am to have been spared, and reminds me of the of the devastation for so many.

On a happier note, I made my holiday shawl out of “Holly and Ivy” sock yarn and absolutely love it! I have received so many compliments whenever I wear it.

I am not working on anything right now. I like many crafts and have a thing for repurposing and finishing vintage embroidery projects I find in thrift stores. Right now I am organizing and pairing down my vintage button and trim and needlework and sweaters to repurpose and a whole lot more. I finally got to it when I saw a pattern for socks that I have the needles and yarn for but had to walk into my craft storage area to get it aaaaand, yes, you guessed it, too much stuff, not enough yarn though lol. I have everything ready for the socks and sitting and knitting them will be my reward when i get everything in order.
