the whole process is magic
From choosing the colors, then transforming those colors into a specific project and finally the icing on the cake how those colors turned into a unique finished project
I enjoy the whole process from finding a pattern I really love, to find the right yarn to go with it. Then the knitting or crocheting to finally stitching it together to see the finished piece. The best part yet though is trying it on or seeing the look of delight on the recipients face.
I love the colors!!!!!
I love the feeling you get when you touch this yarn. So soft and cozy, it calms you!
I really love choosing the perfect yarn for a project or the other way round, if I have some yarn looking for the perfect project.
My favorite part of the process is the planning. I enjoy picking the color, texture, and weight of yarn I will be using in my project. There are always so many options it seems like that it is just as fun to pick everything out first before I even start making anything.
Watching the knitting grow is my favoritepart. One stitch at a time leading to a larger piece.
it is!!
I absolutely love choosing the colors. I feel that colors carry energy, so picking a color that matches the energy of my project is exciting.
You know you can always hook me with lots of gorgeous blues! Along with all the other great colors, of course. But blue just grabs me a bit quicker and holds me a little tighter. My favorite part of the process is getting an idea about a shape, some colors and some textures, and wrestling with it until it turns into a pattern.
My Favourite part of crocheting is the pattern and the colour,I used feel each pattern needs a particular colour ,so the texture and beauty of the finished item is breathtaking
All the yarns are gorgeous, from the color to the knitting, a marvel
I love the entire process, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be the texture. The tactile sensation of the yarn flowing thru my fingers, the drape of the fabric I am creating, the texture of the stitches. I feel a sense of satisfaction just in the creation.
My favorite part is dreaming up new projects.
My favorite part is the actual stitching!
I love the actual stitching, but there is something amazing about finishing as well seeibg it come to live (Ik do SEW in the ends whilst working, so that helps 🙂 )
So pretty! My birthday is June 4, so this would be a great gift!! Fingers crossed 🤞
I think all parts are important..
Sometimes you just want to use the pretty yarn, others you’re trying a new pattern or knitting style.
As long as you’re happy with the end result.
I’ve seen designers say that variagated yarns won’t work, used them anyway & it’s beautiful!
I like when I finally match yarn to a pattern I’ve been wanting to make and seeing the finished result.
Color and texture! (and the joy and calm of the stitching process)
I love every step of the process from selecting the project, the hook, those beautiful colors of yarn and starting those stitches, for me its so relaxing its my therapy.
I love the whole process. From picking the pattern, to deciding the colors & yarn. If I have to pick one it would be trying on what ever I made and having it fit.
I love the whole process, considering the pattern, choosing yarns, knitting and completing the project But even if I procrastinate about blocking u project. I always fall in love with the result when the blocking is complete.
Picking the colors
My favorite part is the completed project. It makes me feel so good that I have accomplished something so beautiful
My favorite is seeing the happiness of the recipients when I give them the projects I’ve made. I have enjoyed the process and benefitted from learning new stitches and/or relaxing as I crochet, and I love working with beautiful soft yarns. But the best part is always seeing their faces light up when I give it to someone.
I love yarn. I have a massive collection and I will be lucky if I get to knit with all of it. I just love the colors, the feel of it. I took a spinning class to learn how to spin it. We touched on some dying techniques. My next class is going to learn how to dye it. I think the whole process of creating yarn and dying it is fascinating. To take things from nature and create beautiful colors is life changing. I bought some buffalo roving from EFA and I can’t wait to spin that into some beautuful yarn. I was inspired from watching your videos. I couldn’t wait to try spinning. You were sitting on a dock just spinning away. I wanted to do that too.
For me, it’s the whole process. It’s like gardening – the journey is every bit as important as the product. Those first few completed stitches/rows or sprouts are as exciting to see as the final object.
I love all parts of the process. Choosing colours, deciding on a yarn weight, deciding on a pattern, knitting the piece and then…… wearing/using it.
Love EFA yarns.
I enjoy discovering the yarns. The color and texture. I always find a project to match the yarn that I purchased. It’s almost always yarn first.
My favorite part is the stitching. Afterwards, I just love looking at finished items, at their details and remembering how fun it was to make them.
This months yarns are OMG! Beautiful
I love the feel of the yarn when I’m making something. I love working your gorgeous patterns but I bore really really easy.
My favorite part of the process is the stitching (this is my daily stress relief). I do enjoy having a finished project also.
I am a color person. I try to make items for my friends and family with colors that compliment them. I get asked all they time why I don’t sell my items, and I have to say two reasons. First, pricing based on material cost could be cost prohibitive, and secondly, crocheting brings me so much joy. Being able to gift my work, and having the recipient actually use the item makes my heart happy!
May is my Birthday month, and the colors in this grouping are some of my favorites!
Enjoy the entire process. It’s like doing a puzzle. One step at a time until the picture emerges. Love making and gifting shawls. Speckles are definitely a favourite
The way the yarn feels slipping through my fingers, and quietly anticipating the finished product.
My favourite part is the stitching and how each row actually develops into a garment or a shawl… I can totally submerge myself into that process!
I love the whole creative process. Finding a beautiful yarn, then finding just the right pattern, and finally creating the finished project
Actually my favorite part is how zen i find it all. From choosing a color to the way the stitching calls tge chaos of the world around me.
Although I enjoy all aspects of the project, I excel at the planning and need to work on following through. The stitching is like therapy, and seeing the finished project is very fulfilling.
My favorite part of the process is when the piece starts to take shape!
Mine is the anticipation. Finding the pattern, finding the yarn, beginning the project, and finishing the project.
My favorite part is definitely when I’m starting and nearing to finish my project!😄😄
I really love starting new projects! Getting to play with new yarn and try something different every time is just so much fun, and there’s nothing like finally finishing something after I’ve been bouncing between all my WIPs.
My favourite part is learning something new, and the happy feeling of finishing a project and the joy of choosing another.
I love the process of choosing my colors first and watching how they come together in my finished piece
My favorite part of the process is the complexity of the pattern. I love a challenge. It’s interesting, frustrating, and highly rewarding when mastered. I think that is why I love the Irish crochet and lace patterns. I have currently been engulfed in a doily pattern that I started at the first of the year. I needed five of them. There has been much frogging, hair pulling, wrist soreness, and swearing. Lots of swearing 😂. But I have finally grasp the pattern. And I found that the pattern is not as complex as it seems. The problem is that the pattern needed to written in a more concise manner. Because of the number of steps it would have benefited being written as individual sentences instead of a paragraph format. A chart wou!d also have been immensely helpful as well. All in all it is a beautiful pattern and I am happy I made it. I may even reformat it and print for my personal use (yes I purchased the digital download). Will I make it again? Absolutely 😁. P.S. All of the patterns I have received from EFA have made it to my personal printed collection. They are saved in my account profile, a digital download file, an external hard drive, and printed. I hate losing great patterns 😉.
My favorite part is choose the colors!! 🌈
I like the making/stitching (the figuring out and doing) and using looking at/using the final piece (and being amazed that I was actually able to do it…and here’s proof). Picking colors is the hardest for me, which is why I appreciate your bundles of colors that are intended to go together!
I truly love the whole process, picking out which yummy yarn I want to use: colors & blend, the stitching: watching the colors and feel of the yarn flow threw my fingers and change with each crochet stitch, the finishing: blocking to make sure each stitch is in place, and if a gift: the recipient’s expression on their face when recieved.
I like the whole process, but my favorite parts are choosing the design/colors and seeing the finished product on someone.
I enjoy the whole process 🙂
One of my favorite parts of the process is picking yarn to a project that you can’t wait to knit! I think my dream job would be to work at a yarn shop helping people pick fun projects and pairing the perfect yarn for it! 😊
The stitching, s it transforms into the finished piece. I’m not artistic enough to create patterns, but I can bring beauty to people by crocheting.
My favourite part is when I’m about on one third ofvthe project and look at it from a distance. Admiring the stitches and the whole of the piece.
The entire process is so much fun! Picking a pattern, finding the right yarn, starting the process, watching it come to fruition, and reveling in the FO. Just magical!
My favorite part is choosing the colors and pattern/stitches, and the crocheting itself! There’s something incredibly satisfying about finding a stitch combo that allows the colors to shine. And crocheting is very therapeutic for me, especially when a pattern’s rhythm becomes meditative.
I like finding the perfect pattern. Then picking the colors. I enjoy the process of figuring out new stitches.
My favorite part is the stitching. And then my second favorite part is of course the finished project!
I enjoy the challenge of identifying which pattern to make next and then selecting the perfect yarn and colors for the project. I usually create a spreadsheet to map out the color sequences that would work best. I do love the process — crocheting is so therapeutic and relaxing!
I do love the stitching! Choosing a pattern can be fun, but if I’m adapting a pattern to a drastically different gauge (say going from a worsted dishcloth on size 5 needles to an super bulky afghan on size 11 or 13, I do need to swatch, and that’s my least favorite part!
I love the whole process from beginning to end.
My favorite part of making an item is the hours of relaxation I get to spend with the o section I’m making. ❤️
Choosing colors that look pretty together!
Choosing colors is my favorite!
I am a customer for over a year now and I love your yarn. Customer service is great. The yarn is exquisite and lush. Always look forward to my monthly subscription.
I love watching the colors shift through my fingers as I’m stitching with variegated yarn. It’s so exciting to see which one will come next!
My favorite part of the making process is being so excited to see how it’s going to turn out. I practically dance in my seat while creating, lol
I love everything about the process of knitting. My mom taught me how when I was 15 and since she isn’t here anymore every time I start a project I feel like she is here with me, guiding me.
Each project is different. It all depends on what is made in my opinion. The process of each carrys a different feeling.
Finding the yarn and the finished piece is outstanding. The stitching is therapeutic.
My favorite part is the finishing!!
The full process, finding a pattern that makes me excited! Then looking for the yarn that will make that *splash*! Casting on and watching the fabric become something amazing! Finishing off and giving to that knit worthy person because you know they’ll appreciate your hard work. I just got my new yarn and love it! Thank you!!!
I Love yarn and everything about it. I love the smell, the feel, the creative possibility. I enjoy shopping for yarn. It is a wonderful thing when you look at a yarn and you can envision a project. The only thing that I dislike about yarn is that I cannot have it all.
It really depends on what happens with a project. Sometimes its a pattern that the stitches just pull me in and I just need to try it ( perfect example Passage🥰. I wasn’t going to do another shawl)and then I am on the hunt for a perfect yarn which sometimes takes months. Then there are those times when I come across an absolutely gorgeous yarn I just have to get and I do quick calculations and guess what I want to make, then I spend hours finding just the right pattern. EfA started me on the journey of loving hand dyed fibers in unique blends
Finding a pattern and deciding what yarn I’m going to use.
Best part – mmmm – I like the stitching if it is interesting but I do find myself enjoying the finishing. Sometimes it’s finicky or takes a while to do – but viewing the finished product and knowing what went into the entire project…priceless!!
Great question! My favorite part is the finished product because I really enjoy thinking about the colors , the shape, the stitches, the fiber content relative to the project itself, the process…all of it, really. So the culmination of all the dreaming and doing results in a tangible piece of my imagination, heart and skill set.
My favorite part is the stitching & watching the fabric grow into something amazing!
I think my favorite part is when a pattern finally comes to life on the needles, especially when it’s taken a long time to find the right pattern for the yarn.
I love the whole process. I love the knitting and seeing everything coming together.
The colours and touch are my biggest temptations!
I love love love picking out the colors!
I really enjoy the process of stitching projects with beautiful colors and fibers. I have come to further enjoy pairing particular fibers, yarn weights and stitches to achieve various textures in the finished project.
My favorite part is the stitching. It’s so darn therapeutic!
My favorite part is gifting creations to others that appreciate that I stabbed an items thousands of times out of care and love for them.
My favorite part is starting a new knitting project and the enjoyment of many hours of knitting. ❤️
My favorite part is stitching. It’s like a form of therapy. So relaxing.
I love the entire process of a knitting project. The possibilities at the beginning of a project (what pattern? Which yarn?) are endless. I enjoy the actual knitting from the first stitch to the last. I don’t even mind frogging when I make a mistake.
Fiber fondling is the best part of the process!
I really struggle with overthinking and my brain is constantly going in overdrive. But, whatever I’m making, throughout the whole project, my brain slowly quiets until all that it’s focused on is the next crochet stitch. It’s a time for me to slow down and focus on one task, calming my brain, giving me peace.
The process of stitching is therapeutic and of course admiring and enjoying the finished product!
My favorite part is the finished object – but not just the finished object – the feeling of “I MADE that!”
My favorite part is picking out the yarn. I absolutely love watching your videos. I learned so much. I only crochet but I can watch you just knit away. You are so fast. Oh my goodness, the yarn the yall sell is so beautiful too. I have a hard time trying to find yarn that drapes as beautifully as Expression Fiber Arts in my budget but that’s ok. I really love when a project is done and I give it to someone and they smile. I feel like they have something that I made that will bring them joy 😊
I love the stitching. It’s so meditative.
my favorite part is finding just the right patter… it has to feel right, then the colors..
Ooh, this one is perfect for me, it’s my birthday on the 16th and this giveaway has turquoise in it! I love two things about making stuff, the accomplishment of actually making something from scratch and the cozy feeling being buried in newly half crocheted pieces, lol.
I love it all, the whole process!!
I love finding beautiful yarn choosing a pattern and making something for someone to treasure. I have a new granddaughter coming in September.
Right now I am really loving texture!
I love the whole process of creating something: Choosing yarn types, finding new colors, starting a pattern or creating a new design based on a general concept. I love to crochet!
I love it all, but I think my favorite part is the actual working with the yarn and giving it away — enjoying the feel of the yarn and manipulating it to make something for a friend.
Hi 🙋🏻♀️ I enjoy most watching the colors change and come around to one beautiful make. Your yarn is the squishiest! Thank you so much for this opportunity !
I love the whole process but choosing the colors is my favorite part and these are some of my very favorite colors!!
My favorite parts are…the colors, the smell of the wool, the texture, the squish factor, the yarn flowing through my fingers as I form my stitches. My favorite feel of working the yarn is from the Oasis Dk, Alpaca Dk and Pearlescent fingering and worsted. The feeling is amazing. I don’t rush my stitches, because I enjoy the stitching part so much…My ADHD is using it as a stim and i love my ADHD 🥰 and my yarn.
Such wonderful patterns and yarn to die for is what I find on your site. I love to look each day and then dream about making something special.
Favorite part would have to be the finished piece. Making something from the heart for others ❤️
Definitely enjoying the process of learning a pattern and taking your time in making it just right.
I love the entire process…getting inspired either by a pattern that starts the search for the perfect yarn…or finding a gorgeous yarn that sets me dreaming of what it could become. Then the meditative stitching, watching the project take shape…
I only began crocheting about 18 months ago. Why did I wait so long to develop this passion?!
My favourite part is the anticipation all the way through, that something is becoming out of nothing.
My favorite part is the actual making where string becomes fabric.
My favourite part of the crochet process is when it all comes together and looks like what its supposed to be – whether it’s amigurumi, a shawl, a dress, or something else!
I love searching for the right pattern for my yarn. You get so much inspiration! Which colors go together, can I change the type of yarn…
And then all the other fun moments begin: choosing your yarn and colors, winding your yarn, knitting, crocheting. You simply enjoy the whole process. And then… you are finished and can enjoy your work. It is always nice when people ask where you bought your sweater or shawl; there is no greater compliment 😊
Oooooo I love colors. I can sit in my craftroom just looking to the colors and feeling the yarn.
Planning, customising, creating something a few rows at a time. ☺️
I think I enjoy the whole process. Getting an idea or a stitch to try or finding pattern, then deciding on yarn and hook, starting is always fun, then just sitting and working it. For me, it’s the joy of making and it helps me deal with life’s issues.
I recently watched Elise Rose Crochet on YouTube, psychology of crochet. It definitely defined my reasoning for doing what I enjoy. Good video.
My birthday is the last day of May and it would be the most wonderful gift to win this amazing month’s choice of yarn, I would share some with my good friend Julie and then enjoy working out which amazing patterns I will begin to work on. Once I find a pattern, and the yarn to suit, I love the starting point, when you begin to see how it looks in the first few rows, it gets exciting and keeps me going. All parts of the process are awesome but my last favourite part is the seaming… seems to take forever but worth every bit of effort for the final product. Thank you for having these giveaways, they are so amazing!
My favorite part is picking the yarn. I’ll start with a pattern and have an idea of what yarn I want to use but many times that goes sideways. Suddenly, I have a project started that is a completely different color and/or texture than I originally envisioned, and I am usually so much happier with it.
My favorite part isn’t just one thing – it’s the process of creating – how a fiber works in a stitch pattern, or how gauge, drape, and stitch interact, or how color and stitch interact.
Such gorgeous wool!
I love it all, but particularly choosing colours, matching them to the perfect pattern, and watching them play with each other as I knit. Always exciting :).
The whole process is so therapeutic, I use it as a form of meditation. I can’t say that any one specific part is my favourite.
I doe not have a favorite part, I like everyrhing from going to the yarnshop, and going to those wooliez and colours, the fit with the pattern starting my knit or crochet. And then making somebody (or myself🫢) happy with the outcome of my hard labour. This year the gift are going to be little scarfs . 🌻
My favorite part is the actual stitching. Best therapy around.
For me it’s a combination of the yarn and seeing the finished result that makes it worth it. Especially if it’s a gift for someone and their face lights up when they receive it
While I enjoy all parts of the making process, I particularly love the looking back after the item is completed…. Thinking about where I was when I found THAT yarn, where I was when I was working on said project, thinking about people who have commented on the finished item, how long did it take me to complete the project, the joy that the finished item brought to someone… those memories are the most treasured to me.
I particularly enjoy the process of trying different stitches with my chosen yarn, to see which one highlights the qualities of the yarn most. Then it’s finding a pattern to make with that stitch and that yarn! A bit back to front maybe, but so much fun and so satisfying … when it works!
My favorite part of the process is twofold. First I love feeling the fiber through my hands as it evolves into a beautiful pattern and secondly, seeing the smile on the faces of the people I knit for who truly appreciate the time and effort that went into making something special for them.
I love it all, but the stitching is my favorite part
I really love every part, but especially the stitching and wearing (or sometimes using depending on what it is 😀 ) the finished piece
My favorite part is figuring out the pattern or learning something new!
Its like a beautiful song the introduction is the choosing – uarn, colour, pattern, followed by the first verse – casting on and settling into the pattern, and then building through the chorus and pattern repats to the crescendo of the finished piece.
I am in love with the colours in this minths collection 😍 ❤️ good luck everyone.
Hello EFA team. My fav part is going into a wool shop and just inbibing all the wonders on the shelves. Colour, colour, colour!!! Once pattern found the stitching up is the next process me loves. Learning new techniques and the feel of the yarn. But if I cant find the colour I want I dye my own, this is so rewarding. Most pieces I make are gifts to others and the best part is seeing them use them.
Such a good question!! I love several parts; however, I’d say my favorite must be the actual stitching!!!
I love choosing the colours and the stitching part. I love seeing how my colours affect the pattern and vice versa. Not such a fan of the finishing, it’s something I have to force myself to do!
All the yarns are gorgeous, from the color to the knitting, a marvel
My favorite part is the stitching. Sometimes I love how monotonous it can be which allows me to relax and unwind and sometimes it is unusual and difficult and I enjoy the challenge. It depends on my mood and why I have so many WIPs
After FINALLY deciding which yarn weight, color, pattern…I thoroughly enjoy knitting the thing! Summer tees, camisoles & cardigans are my fave! Socks, hats, mitts, cowls/shawlettes are are always on the needles -generally garter (easy) – ready to pick up & knit whenever. Yes, I “take a break” from one project to work on another! Add my first love of crochet to the mix … I have plenty to keep me busy.
Love all the colors of EFA yarns-which makes decision-making a “problem”…lol
Thank you for fabulous yarn & glorious patterns!
I love the entire process, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be the texture. The tactile sensation of the yarn flowing thru my fingers, the drape of the fabric I am creating, the texture of the stitches. I feel a sense of satisfaction just in the creatio
Choosing colours/yarn and the actual stitching are my favourite parts of the process!
Choosing the colours and texture of yarns and final fabric for sure are my favourite parts of making a knitted/crochet garment!
I love watching my project grow 😁
My favourite part is choosing the right yarn in the right colours and then casting on. The stitching is fun, but the finishing not so much.
j’adore choisir la laine en fonction du modèle mais la couleur c’est le plus dur, après le tricoter en apprenant une nouvelle technique.
I lovevchoosing my y arn! Colors! Textures!
My favourite part is picking the yarn, either from my stash or buying. But the whole process makes me happy 🙂
My favorite part is the stitching. It quiets the mind and soothes the soul.
Though I love stitching, I think matching a pattern with the perfect yarn and colors is my favorite part of the process. It’s why I always have so many WIPs!🤭
I’m always torn between the stitching and the finished object as my favorite part. On the one hand I can’t wait to see how it turns out and I love that feeling of accomplishment when it’s done but on the other I love watching it happen in my hands. I love the making as much as the finished object.
I love the whole process except for weaving in the ends. That’s why I do it as I go along.
I love the process of turning a ball of yarn into something tangible – it is pure magic!!!
My favourite part is the excitement of finding the pattern, the yarn, and trying it for the first time!
I’m inspired by the yarn. Some yarns jump out as perfect for someone I love, and sometimes it just feels like it belongs in my treasure hoard and that it’s final home will reveal itself later but I must have it now. My favorite part of the making process is the giveaway. Seeing the wonder on the recipients face, knowing that the work is appreciated and that the person will have this representation of love, lifts me up as much as it does them.
My favorite part is either the planning or the actual process of making because I love to see how it’s coming together before it’s finished.
My favorite part is matching a pattern to the perfect yarn. I am a rebel and rarely use the yarn that is in the pattern.
My favorite part is the process of knitting or crocheting and watching it turn into something beautiful, handmade and made with love.
I love planning and getting everything ready. Then putting it all together. The crocheting part is relaxing.
Y favorite part of the process is probably the stitching, especially when the pattern becomes repetitive. The stage when I’ve figured it out, and can just move my hands along, is so calming. T also feels good to see how the yarn color is going to show up in the pattern. I’m a crocheter, and the samples of yarn color/pooling have little to do with what ir would do in crochet.
My favorite part is searching the yarn and the beginning of a project, and the seeing the finished product 😃
My favorite part is the rhythm and feel of the yarn as I work — and your yarn is definitely my favorite to touch. I’m a very tactile person, so I tend to love rhythmic, tactile things, like kneading bread or digging in the dirt in the garden. I also enjoy learning new stitches or techniques. I honestly care very little about the end project and don’t mind having to rip the whole thing out to start again.
I would say the entire process. From the point of picking the pattern, finding the yarn you would like to use. Starting on it and watching each magical stitch come to life as you make this wonderful item. Then at the end the chance to wear it or even give it to some one special
My favorite part of the process is the stitching itself. I’m always amazed at how a single thread of lusciously scrumptious yarn, a hook, and the human hands can work together to make a beautiful, workable fabric. I love to run my hand over the various textures that result from my crocheting.
I love it all – the feel of the yarn, the colors, and watching as it all takes shape.
I think my favorite parts are picking the colors and then the final product. Seeing the final product gives me such a sense of accomplishment and happiness.
Lovely! Lovely! Lovely! What a wonderful opportunity to win such beautiful yarn!
I think the best part for me is giving my finished project away. After years of making things for myself, I switched over to making them for others. And while I enjoy all of the steps (well, maybe not weaving in ends), giving the project to someone is the best.
Thanks for all you write each week! Very inspiring.
I used to enjoy the challenge of a complicated pattern. Now at 80, simple is better! I love making hats for chemo patients. Also shawls and lap blankets…
I love the whole process, everything about it! Everyone else has explained it so much better than I can.
The magic for me is when I can see what my knitting is becoming, when I can see it is more than rows or rounds of stitches. Once the project starts really revealing itself, once I can see that my hands are making something that does not exist anywhere else and watch it keep developing, that’s magic.
I love seeing the texture appear as I go. The hardest part is deciding which pattern to use – yours are all so interesting.
I’ve finally risen to the level of feeling delighted in the creative process (originally my biggest fear). It has become, by far, my favorite part of the journey. The nirvana of the right pattern, in the perfect color/combo, with the best yarn weight, a luxe texture, that fits so well AND is flattering…it just can’t get better than that. Sometimes just knowing I’ve unlocked the magic is enough, and I’ll add it to the queue to wait until I have time to create it.
I love every part of it, from that initial ‘love at first sight’ moment when you see the yarn or pattern that you just have to have, and the perfect union when you put them together to create something wonderful. The feelings of accomplishment and sense of peace as you see the art of creation forming in your hands. I am always in awe to see what putting some thread and some pointy/hooky sticks together can do ❤
My favorite part is the stitching. Long relaxing hours of feeling the yarn fibers transform into something beautiful.
Pour ma part la laine choisie son projet quand je regarde un écheveau je vois le projet 🥴
Oh my! Do I HAVE to choose? lol. Honestly, for me, the best part is the dream. Buying yarn before you even know what you want to do with it, because it’s pretty, or has a great texture, or sheen, or feels amazing. I find the hardest part is actually picking a project because I’ve already picked the yarn. lol. Maybe I just like to horde – err, collect yarn.
My favorite part is working the stitches and seeing the project come together through the different stages.
I love stitching up the piece; it’s like painting on a canvas. Little by little the picture appears…
I enjoy the entire process but I would have to say my favorite part is the actual knitting. Learning new stitches and techniques is challenging and fulfilling. Of course wearing what I made is so rewarding, but seeing the joy I give someone I gifted a project to is the happiest feeling.
Literally everything! The moment you touch that perfect yarn or pattern and immediately start dreaming of what to do with it to the fun of wearing your masterpiece out for the first time
I like everything of the process, but most i love the color and the feel of the yarn.
I love finding patterns that go perfectly with the my favorite yarn I’ve chosen.
But it’s very difficult, so I do sometimes get it wrong.
For me the favorite is definitely the stitching. I’m almost entirely a “process knitter” but a small part of me also enjoys “dream knitting”.
My favorite part is the stitching. I enjoy seeing how the yarn and pattern work together. Gotta love that texture!
The texture is the winner as I get to experience that through the knitting process. Most knitters are tactile people!
My favorite part is the knitting.
my favorite part is sitting and looking at the yarn and deciding what it’s going to be. I wrote a pattern when I was in college and it’s a very basic pattern that I can do anything with. As i knit I decide what pattern i am going to use. I never know what I’m going to do next!!!!
I love choosing colors, which is why I get your emails so I can see all the lovely color ways you make even though I could never knit that much! 🤣
My favorite part is the quiet time with just my needles!
Both choosing the yarn and the crocheting! First enjoying the possibilities of new lovely yarn skeins, then relaxing into the making while seeing how the project grows row by row 🧶💖
My favourite part is matching the gorgeous yarn to just the right pattern. And starting the project is so fun!!
I love planning a project including picking the pattern & the colors but it is also amazing to see it transition into a finished piece.
I love the stitching and texture.
I love picking the right yarn for the project and watching how it develops into a piece of artwork that is wearable.
I love the middle of the process, that’s when you have only done some of the piece, but you can see how beautiful is getting.
There are things I love about all parts of the process, but I find planning is the most important. If I’m starting from the yarn, which patterns fit my yardage and gauge? What will I most enjoy making and wearing? Making good choices at the planning stage sets me up to relish the stitching.
I actually have two favorite parts. First, I love stitching; I can get lost in a pattern and forget about all the things I’m unhappy about and focus on what I’m doing and who it’s for. Second, I love when a project is completely finished and I get to reflect on the journey of making it and seeing it being enjoyed by its intended recipient (whether it’s myself or someone else).
My favorite part is the look on people’s faces when I give them something custom. I love to surprise and delight
Some days I’m a process knitter, other days a product knitter…. But I always love the pretty yarn!
Gifting the item. Butbif it has to be specifically before the item is finished, i think spinning the yarn followed by choosing colors has to be my fave parts. Its always lovely to have your yarn in my stash, but boy is there something incredible about blending and spinning your own yarn.
I cherish the feeling of the yarn moving through my fingers with each stitch.
I love every part of the process, but the most satisfying is seeing my yarn slowly transform, stitch-by-stitch, into a beautifully textured fabric.
I love picking the colors and then watching them come together in a make. The process it’s self is calming and relaxing.
I love finding the perfect pattern for yarn. I get to spend time looking through all the beautiful things people design and create. Next is the casting on and starting a project. Finally, seeing my finished project in use and appreciated.
My favorite part is the journey of the knitting. I tend to enjoy slow stitching and thinking about the person who will receive piece. It is all very soothing and relaxing in this hectic world.
Definitely picking the colors! And yarn for each pattern is my favorite, all the potential gets me very excited.
I love both knitting and crochet and seeing the colors I. The price co.e to life
My favorite part of the making process is clearing my mind and giving myself that time just to be.
I love a great and challenging design that makes the process interesting and pushes me.
I love the planning of a new project. Am I going to use an established pattern, or tailor one to my vision. I love deciding which yarn and colour to use. My husband is really good with colours, and so I love that he is involved with any project, he gives great advice and it’s wonderful to know that he is as invested in my hobby as I am.
Chandi, I love all the aspects of knitting! That’s why I enjoy it so much! Selecting just the right yarns and colors is very creative to me. The stitching and textures keep it interesting. All to get to the finished product! I love wearing my knitted pieces!
The whole process! I love finding the perfect color, texture is the first step and then I pick a pattern. So color is my starting point.
My favorite part is finding the perfect yarn/pattern combo!
I love choosing the color and then the finished product. Such a satisfying experience.
I love the texture. The feel of the yarn sliding through my fingers, and the texture of the finished object. I enjoy the other parts of the process, but if I’m picking favorites, it’s texture
My least favorite part is choosing the color and pattern-there are just too many options! My favorite power is the doing. Using my hands to create something beautiful is simply magical to me.
Finding the perfect project for a beautiful yarn is my favorite part of knitting. Magic happens at that point!
my favorite part of th e process is seeing the joy on the recipient’s face!
For me it’s the stitching, and seeing how a garment comes to life by stitching it together. Right now I am working on the Increscent cardigan, and joining the two halves together felt magical. From two disparate pieces to one whole. Wow!
My favorite part of making is that the final piece is 100% me. I choose the colors, I choose the pattern, I knit or crochet the piece. All of the decisions belong to me and that makes me so proud to wear whatever it is!
I like the entire process and if I have to choose one, making the swatch is wich I prefer. It’s the beginning, select yarn, needles or hook, start making what it’s in my mind.
I just love looking at my yarns, appreciating their colours, their feel. I guess I let the yarn “speak” to me and pretty soon it will let me know how best to employ it.
I almost enjoy the anticipation of learning what the yarn will be almost as much as the feeling of it gliding through my hand. Then it’s on to the quiet rhythmic meditation of the actual pattern chosen.
What’s not to love about any of the process?
My favorite part is the actual knitting of the thing. I get lost in it. My mind stops spinning with the every day stuff! The finished piece is awesome but the quietness of mind is cathartic.
I enjoy everything about making with yarn, the best is the satisfaction of a completed project!
My favorite part is planning the colors and watching the project take shape. I find the whole process very grounding and calming.
I enjoy the whole process. But gifting a completed item is my absolute favorite part!
First of all, I will admit that I don’t like sharing yarn with the rest of the world so I feel like it all has to live at my houses. Yup. Two houses. One for regular life and one for hanging out in the quiet life. Both have a yarn stash.
I’ve been collecting and knitting with yarns of all types since I was 8 years old which was just last year – lol – no, 60 years ago actually. Since then I have acquired a BA in Fashion Design & Merchandising and I gotta say my favorite class was the Textiles where we destroyed fibers while we learned about them. After the destruction we dyed yarns and fabrics. I became obsessed with yarns in various fibers in natural so I could make them pretty.
Now, I prefer if all of you wonderful dyers do it for me. I do love your yarns so much and have a mini collection going that I just can’t bring myself to decide on a project just yet. I’m a sweater person and the prettiest yarns go into sweaters. The socks are usually made from what I call ‘factory yarns’.
Keep tormenting me Chandi! I just love your yarns and the colors you give them!
Susan aka the Michigan Yarn Stalker and my car is the Yarn Hauler and I will not give up that license plate. LOL
I like the entire process, but my favorite part would have to be the stitching itself – seeing the yarn become fabric. It’s so satisfying!
I don’t know that I could say one part of the process over another because each holds a special enjoyment for me but it might be choosing the colors or seeing the progress as the project comes along!
My favourite part is the stitching. I prefer stitch patterns rather than colour patterns. i don’t like sewing my creations up but do love it when i see the finished piece!
For me it’s finding the right color. Sometimes it takes a while, as there are so many colors ro choose from and I also think about the person that is going to get the finished item.
The entire process is my favorite! Falling in love with a pattern, picking the colors, choosing the yarn, casting on…….all of it!!
Picking the yarn and stitching!
My Favorite part is the stitching. I find it meditative.
My favorite part of the making process is the stitching.
Stitching, then finishing & using
I love the entire process, really… and I absolutely love the finished texture of a Project, whether it is knitted or crocheted. And I love both of them!!!
I enjoy the entire making process! Choosing the right pattern. If it’s for me or someone else. Choosing the right yarn & colors. Learning new stitches & techniques. Taking my time to enjoy every single stitch. Wearing or gifting the finished item. All of it 🥰
My favorite part is definitely the stitching. Watching a finished piece slowly appear line by line.
My favourite part is the stitching. It helps me relax after a crazy work day.
I would have to say picking the yarn is the hardest part for me because every yarn is beautiful!!!!! Being able to create something by your own hands is my absolute favorite.
I think the starting out is my favorite part, when everything comes together, the yarn, the pattern, those first moments…so exciting!
The most exciting part for me is falling into all the colors and textures that are possible – watching a new design assemble itself by the way the colors unwind in the pattern is the extra bonus
When choosing colors for a project it depends whether there are any cables, lace or texture in the pattern. I will try to find a yarn that is too busy so the patterns will stand out.
I love the knitting process – the more complicated the technique, the happier I am!
My favorite part is choosing the color and pattern.
My favorite part of the making process is the satisfaction and pride I feel after I finish a project, weave in my ends, and block! Those last few steps are sometimes the hardest, and completing them just makes me so happy.
I’d say that picking the colours and yarn to use is my least favorite (so many to choose from and indecision may or may not be my middle name), so the actually stitching and creation of the project probably is my favourite part.
I love picking out new colors with a new project in mind. I am a texture person so, the feel of the yarn is important to me. I love vibrant colors and have made the most beautiful shawls out of them. To pick the perfect project, the perfect colors, and the perfect textures to gift that perfect person…it just don’t get better than that.
Each step of the journey offers its own form of pleasure.
My favorite part is watch the project materialize… I know I’m doing it, but it still seems like magic! *sigh*
The whole process is exiting. I do stumble a bit picking out colors but it all turns out in the end.
Hi Chandi! HAPPY SPRING! Ive been a maker since i can remember, from painting and clay creations from the creeks to knitting (at 8 yrs old), cross stitch, sewing for myself then my 4 children, crocheting, quilting, and fiber spinning and dyeing then owning sheep and dyeing my wool, designing sweaters and accessories, teaching knitting to children and adults, felting and painting again, and loving shawls from Expression Fiber arts patterns (and wonderful tutorials) with the most gorgeous yarns created by Expression Fiber Arts. I love making beautiful things not just because of Dostoyevsky, but because created in His image and likeness, we are made to be creators……of good and beautiful things. I love every step, (even the frogging which i do a lot_ all part of the process). If i had to pick one, it would be the time i pick up my needles and begin knitting, right after the visualization, pattern selection (and any customization – pretty typical with me) and yarn/color selection. Knitting is a blessing!
I think looking for and feeling the yarn for a project is my favorite part. I really squish the yarn before I wind it! I also love completing a project. It is such a feeling of accomplishment when I try something new!
The stitching! I love watching the object take shape!
I really like the end of the piece. If it’s a large rug or something that is challenging, reaching the finish line itself becomes a moment of pride- I DID THAT! WOW! Sometimes that finished piece becomes important in ways you can’t imagine when you start. A simple teddy bear with all of it’s clothing and items seemed like a simple request at first by my friend of 26 years. I didn’t know that weeks after finishing it she would be diagnosed with cancer. I didn’t know that just a few days ago, at her funeral I would present it to a little boy she loved very much, but who she never got to give it to because of the war she was raging against her cancer. I had no idea how important a little bit of my time, some yarn, and a whole lot of love for my friend would be to her grieving family. Those are the kind of moments I have come to cherish and although the circumstances are occasionally hard, that kind of joy is irreplaceable.
Stitching. The most therapeutic part for me!
I love the learning process when I follow a new pattern that has something to teach me. And I love watching the stitches come together to create something beautiful, slowly revealing itself.
I enjoy the entire process because each step is interesting and engaging in its own right. And, of course, the actual knitting/crocheting is so calming. I will admit though, that on occasion my ADHD brain is overtaken with excitement to see my work in all its completed glory and I want to race to the finish rather than enjoy the moment. 🙃
I enjoy everything about the process, the planning, the first stitches on the needles, the rhythm that you get into and finishing touches. All steps are a delight!
My favorite part of the process is the stitching, although picking all the colors is a close second.
I love the entire process. Picking colors, patterns, stitching and then the finished product. I wouldn’t know what to do if I couldn’t knit and crochet.
I enjoy the stitching most. Texture is very important to me.
I love every bit of the process except waiting for my finished pieces to dry after blocking! Choosing yarn and knitting quietly on the couch in the evenings are my favorite things.
For me, I equally enjoy picking out the pattern and the finished product.
I love this month’s colors!
It’s a coin flip between finding the perfect pattern and the stitching. To pick one, I’d have to choose the stitching and progress of the pattern. There are times when I’m almost sorry to see a project reach the finish.
I love every part of the process, but if I had to pick just one part…it would be finishing. Binding off is always so exciting!
I love the whole process. Choosing the yarn and the feel of it slipping through my fingers as I work.
I like the processes best. It gives me time to relax, enjoy the full experience, tune out the world and just BE for a while.
I think the entire process but the rhythm of the stitching is my favorite part.
So many gorgeous colors and options!
I have a spicy brain that easily gets bored, so smaller challenging projects with every row different is the way to go for me! I have an endless TBR of patterns and projects and usually let the feel and look of the yarn tell me what its best life will be (often hats or other accessories to be gifted)
My favorite part is… ALL OF IT! I love finding a pattern that intrigues me, and then trying to find the perfect yarn. I love the anticipation of casting on (even swatching, if it’s a garment that requires it). Watching everything grow into the finished piece. Even seaming or weaving in ends. It’s just all so much fun!
My favorite part in the beginning is becoming acquainted with the interaction of the yarn with the hook or needles, and getting to understand the pattern. Is this going to be a breezy trip, an adventurous trip, or a challenging trip?
My favorite part in the middle is taking that pause to spread out my progress and feel that heart jumping feeling, “Wow! I’m making this beautiful thing!” And as something forms, I start to get the questions and hear the how watching me is sparking memories of grandmothers, aunts, and all those magical hands that came before us.
Toward the end of making something I will admit that I get a mixture of hating the thing (“I’ve been at it so long and I’m sick of it! Enough already!”) and adoring the thing (“This is REALLY something I’ve done here!). And by the last few rows I am sorry that I’m coming to the end of my time being so intimate with this wonder!
I’m obsessed with the feel of the yarn! Then as I knit or crochet my ZEN come back as I need to concentrate on the beautiful patterns and watch them grow I love to see peoples faces when they see the finished projects and when I share my gift with them.
I have two favorite parts of the making process: 1) The finished product. I look at and say, ‘Wow! I actually did that!’ , and 2) The smiles, and expressions of gratitude and appreciation, of the people I give the products to.
I love it all, but really enjoy the texture.
My favorite part is picking and pattern and yarn(s) for the pattern and then seeing my vision for the pattern come to life.
My favorite parts of the knitting or crocheting process include finding the colors that inspire me, thinking of the people for whom I love to make things, finding the pattern I would like to try, then feeling the beautiful textures of the yarn itself as I imagine the person wearing it, all in all a real way to sensually enjoy the making!
Thanks so much for this! I’m a color and texture person, so yarn shopping is a separate hobby than actually knitting or crocheting. I never pick out yarn thinking of a specific project to use it with. Which, although it makes me something of a yarn hoarder, presents a fun challenge when I decide on a project and “shop my stash” for it!
I think my favorite part is picking the colors. I’m an artist,I’ve been painting since I was a child, and when I discovered knitting it was like I could paint with yarn! I started off with solid colors, until I discovered variegated yarn! using variegated yarn is like mixing paint!(without the mess lol)
For a long while, before I started knitting, I had lost my creative spark, painting which had been my passion for years was no longer bringing me joy.. knitting brought everything back,my creative spark, my passion and most importantly my joy. I love all aspects of knitting, from choosing a pattern, to picking the yarn, and the actual process of making something with my hands.
My favorite part is the actual stitching. I like to try something new with each project.
The whole process is what I love! But choosing colors and deciding what to make is extra exciting, and seeing the finished product is exciting, too!
Gorgeous colors again this month! I love the whole process: choosing colors and patterns, the work itself, then the finished product to gift or wear. If I had a least favorite, it might be joining skeins or weaving in ends.
For me it’s the stitching. I especially love changing colors in a piece, seeing how the different colors play together 😊
I love seeing the final project come together and comparing it to my original imagination version to see if it came out how I envisioned.
Beautiful colors this month, as always! I think my favorite part is the stitching and challenging myself to try new stitches, shapes, or techniques. It’s amazing to create fabric from a stand of yarn, then turn it into a finished, useable object!
I love choosing beautiful colours, finding the right project for each, testing the softness and squishyness of different yarn types, and then, of course, knitting something up, feeling the yarn running through my fingers, and watching something grow.
I love finding the perfect yarn to match the pattern! I used to work in a yarn shop, and I loved helping my customers do the same!
I really love the process of creating. While there’s pleasure in the finished object, I wouldn’t knit or crochet if I didn’t love the actual doing of them.
My favorite part is seeing it coming together! As much as I love picking the colors, textures, and patterns, the best part is that feeling of “I’m making something!”
I’ve changed over to flat bed machine knitting machine, so I like the opportunity to learn new skills while knitting on the machine.
My favorite part of the process is the often meditating stitching and watching how everything comes together for the final product. What could be more exciting!
I love the whole process but my favorite hands down is wearing and using all the beautiful items.
My favorite part is trying something new. I love making something I’ve never made before. And then I love seeing someone light up when I gift it to them.
For me it is the stitching, closely followed by the yarn, because I always work with the softest, squishiest yarn. 🙂 Working a complex pattern makes me feel like I’m growing, but working a pattern with simple repeats (aka a TV pattern) and a luxurious yarn calms me like nothing else.
My favorite part of the process is the process, whether it be knit, crochet, or other fiber work: The movement of yarn over my over my fingers, the tweaks o placing needles/hooks just so, learning the pattern, adapting the pattern as needed. That’s my favorite parts.
I go through this thing at about 3/4 complete when I am positively convinced I’m making literal garbage: I’ve missed something in the pattern, I’ve picked the wrong colors, the yarn isn’t right, or or or. And then I get through that and I can see it’s all going to work and be beautiful. I don’t really like the first part, but I know if I take a break for a few days and come back, the second part is sure to follow. And that’s that part I like.
Definitely choosing colors … it’s the reason I have SO MANY skeins of yarn in my stash that don’t have an assigned project. Just having all the different colors and textures around me makes me happy. And, my crush for color has also resulted in many, many different sets of pens, markers, fat quarters, paper … sigh. Friends laugh at my obsession for full gradients of every color of the rainbow, but they know who to go to if they need some yarn in a specific colorway!
My favourite parts are choosing the colour(s) and the process of making beautiful lace patterns. While I often love the FO, it’s often sad to end the process and then the item can end up in a drawer unworn.
The best part is making something unique, one of a kind and way better quality than you can buy in stores.
I like figuring out special stitches and seeing how they make a pattern unique
I love the entire process but my favorite part is the cast on. I’m always so full of hope and anticipation for what the final garment will be, and the many hours of actual making that entails!
I got into making a LOT of corner to corner blankets for my kids their spouses and grandbabies. All with the same type yarn, my oldest “bonus” granddaughter wanted a baby blue and baby pink cat, let me tell you the blue does not want to be used in that manner, making me nuts. So the stitch is important to the yarn. I’m allergic to acrylic and polyester, and the finkyest (made up word) yarn is usually organic cotton!
While I love getting and using new yarn, my absolute favourite part of the process is finding new patterns! I collect patterns the same way that I do yarn, and I love to read them and try them out which is why I have numerous projects started and fewer finished! Lol 😂
Hello! I just like knitting, the process and rhythm, the yarn slipping through my fingers and becoming something. It is very calming to me. All the other parts are challenging with so many options and decisions to make before you begin.
Choosing colors after the pattern is selected has got to be the most fun.
While I enjoy the process of picking the project and matching the yarn, I love starting a project! It’s the excitement of the possibilities and seeing how it comes together!
Also learning new techniques and stitches is high on my list!
I love the peace it gives me, and then seeing the texture of the end fabric of a pattern turn out beautiful. Though my progress has been slow with WIP this year
The yarn tells me what it wants to be! I admit that can backfire when the yarn wants to be a sweater, and I only bought enough for a hat! However, because of that, I have several shaded sweaters which usually works quite well. I do a small swatch first to see how the colours will blend.
My favorite part is the stitching, see the pattern come to life, see the influence of the colors.
I love best the tactile feel of the yarn, the softness or fuzzy or crisp or rustic or liquidy feel, and the color always enhances the texture. Then the magic of stitching and making fabric … seeing how all work together to create a special one-of-a-kind item! It’s the best alchemy and magic I know! ✨💗✨
Normally I’d say the stitching, but lately I’ve really been enjoying the dreaming part- finding a pattern and matching it to a skein or two in my stash
Choosing yarn is unquestionably my favorite part of the process!
I love everything about yarn arts, but there’s something so exciting about casting on and those first few rows!
I love to process of finding a pattern that inspires you to working the stitches. Its a lovely journey that’s always filled with extra memories along the way. My favourite part though, is wearing the items I created. They are always the most cozy and comforting things in my closet.
I like texture, the feel of the yarn going through my fingers.
I like the whole process but I especially love trying new textures.
I love seeing a project start to really take form. From following a pattern that tickles my fancy, to working it up with the colours and texture of the yarn I choose to bring it to life, each step along the way reveals something beautiful! I like merging my creativity with that of the pattern creator by carefully choosing gorgeous yarn options.
My favorite part is finding a stitch that I am not familiar with and learning how it works and affects the finished project.
Hey chandi my favorite part is watching the stitch definition come alive and that makes me excited for the finished product. These colors are stunning and i can see so many project coming to life with these. Happy knitting 🧶
My favorite part is the knitting! I love creating something pretty, be it painting or knitting. The creative process. That said, I am currently knitting the Midnight Grove shawl in the beautiful blue yarn pictured on the pattern. This pattern does take all my concentration. I sit at my desk, with the pattern in front of me. No television knitting on this one. I made myself a chart to show that I am on this line of the body pattern and this line of the edging pattern. Sometimes I only manage one row of pattern with the purl back row. The lace pattern has now emerged and it’s just gorgeous. I am normally a fast knitter, but this one is going to take awhile. I like the challenge. And I LOVE the yarn!
My favorite part of the process is when I am almost done with my finished piece! I still have some of the stitching part to do so I get to continue to work on it, but I can see what the final project will look like!
My favorite part is seeing my vision come to life! Choosing the colors and picturing what it’ll look like and then seeing it in real time coming together is so magical!
I mean all of it is my favorite! Every time I start something, I am so excited to get going; to wow at a project I see, to find yarn for it, to feel the yarn, to see the colors and how it goes from nothing to a wearable object, to revel in the calm of the stitching together. It really centers me and causes me to feel so good!
love to play with color and the icing on the cake is the beautiful finished project
My favorite part of the process is the beginning rows/rounds because I’m off on a new adventure!
My favorite part of the process is picking the yarn and gathering all the things for my project, followed by watching the project coming to life. Also, one of my favorite things is giving the project away, and the person expressing how much they love receiving it. Ok lets be real the entire process is my favorite part. LOL
Giving it awat
I love the entire process and I love reaching the end result. It’s so satisfying.
My favorite part is the actual stitching, but choosing a pattern and the yarn is a close second!
My favorite part of the making process is planning how I will customize a pattern to make it my own. I always do something to change up a pattern to make it perfect for me or the recipient. I almost always use a different yarn than called for but I typically also change proportions, mix sizes or otherwise recalculate stitches to achieve a perfect fit, use a different ribbing technique for hems, change up the collar style or sleeve shape, etc. As a math lover, the re-calculations are fun and part of the excitement of starting a new project.
I love selecting the yarn (it’s like my Zen space – feeling all the yarn), but once the pattern gets far enough along that it’s starting to take shape and look like the thing you’re making – that’s exciting. Then comes the anticipation when you’re nearly finished with a project and you just can’t wait to try it on or see the recipient’s reaction – so satisfying!
My favorite part of the process is the actual knitting, especially when I’m learning something new! Also, because without it knitting wouldn’t be nearly as fun, all the beautiful yarn!
My favorite part is ALL OF IT! Except when I can’t make a decision, and put the project in timeout. Except that never happens with socks! Hmmmm….
Beautiful, beautiful yarns!!
You know, I think I like everything but frogging. Even the math of how to resize a pattern for a bigger piece or finer yarn, even untangling hopeless rescued skeins, even weaving in ends (though I always seem to forget how zen that process becomes). And of course winning at yarn chicken!
Matching the yarn and pattern to make it unique.
I love the whole process. When choosing yarns, I am drawn to color. With patterns I am drawn to texture. I enjoy the stitching and then am proud to have a finished product. Knitting is a relaxing hobby for me.
Each step along the way has it’s charm, but my favorite is the stitching. It’s calming (until I mess up and have to frog or tink back to fix my mistake) and meditating. Next favorite is learning new techniques and constructions, and thirdly is just going through my stash looking for the right yarn, then realizing that, gosh darn, I have to go yarn shopping! 😂
I find great joy in the challenge of learning new design elements, stitches and techniques.
There is something about each step of the process that I love. But once I’ve selected the pattern and the yarn, the feel of the yarn as it glides over my fingers gives me great pleasure.
I love so many things about the making process, but I think my favorite is watching how the same pattern can change so much and look so different when you use a different color or a variegated yarn. I love stitching along and watching the project take shape. It’s wonderful, magical, and calming.
My favorite part of the process is the planning – imagining what a project could look like, deciding the details like what colors to use or how big to make it. It’s the anticipation of what could be that I find so exciting!
It’s the colors that grab me. I am more of a yarn collector than an actual maker.
My favorite part is the creating of the project.
The actual stitching is the part that relaxing, the giving of the gift is the most exciting. Choosing the colors can exiting and stressful at the same time. The entire process is wonderful!
One of my strengths is learner and knitting greatly satisfies my need to learn new things. Whether it be new stitches, new designs, gaining knowledge about fiber, and even fixing mistakes – I find it both challenging and relaxing!
It’s definitely a full process thing. Knowing the work that went in between the first stitch and the last one and seeing it all come together and knowing that you did that is pretty cool.
It sounds silly, but my favorite part is getting to know the yarn. First when you’re winding it, you get to see how soft it is and the color subtleties start to come out. Then when you’re working with it, seeing all the little details in the yarn and how they show up in the garment. I love that!
My favorite part of the making process is choosing colors, followed closely by texture (both that of the yarn and that of the pattern). That’s why I feel in love with EFA so many years ago — gaaahhhh, the COLORS! 💜
I really appreciate your uplifting words. I’m battling pneumonia right now and the past two weeks have been very bleak trying to heal and taking care of my 4 little ones. Getting your email is a little bright spot in my day. Crochet has gotten me through some tough times when you physically can’t do anything else.
I enjoy the making, and I give away a lot of my makes. My color choices are guided by my heart. My pattern choices are are almost always the ones with lots of textures. I also do both freeform crochet and knitting and I let the yarn shine!
I truly love the whole process, from picking the pattern and the yarn to seeing it come to a finish. It just relaxes me and makes me slow down and enjoy the process
My favorite part of the making process is the beginning of the stitching when you begin seeing the project take shape and when you get to the final row/round and the piece is finally complete. Those are the best feelings!
My favorite part is all of it! I love picking everything to go together, learning new stitches and techniques, seeing the finished product, and wearing or gifting after it’s done!
Playing with yarn in all it’s forms!
I love picking out the yarn for a project. Since collecting yarn is one of my hobbies I love to figure out what yarns I can use for a project from my collection/stash! Finding just the right colors/skeins gives me so much joy!
My favorite part of the process is the stitching!!
The process of creation, the challenge of a new stitch pattern or technique, differing construction methods.
The finished piece I’d less important, but if it’s a wearable then the satisfaction of having a “designer” piece in my wardrobe and being able to glow if it is admired while being worn.
Whatever craft we use to turn threads/ yarn into fabric is an amazing achievement.
Knitting and crochet helps me remain productive and mind healthy
I think my favorite part is learning new techniques. I try to select projects that will challenge me and expand my skill set
My favorite part is the process. Stitching, either knitting or crochet, is meditative – my zen place. I love the finished items, but the actual process is the best part.
I like the whole process. Finding the perfect design or coming up with my own, picking the right yarn and color, sitting down to knit/crochet, satisfaction of the finished project… all of it!! But I think the actual knitting/crocheting is probably my favorite by just a bit. So relaxing and fun!
I love finding the perfect pattern to go with a yarn that I’ve already fallen in love with! I enjoy picking out colours with my children. they have a wonderful eye for unusual combinations that I wouldn’t have put together, but work beautifully none the less!
I love picking out colors!
I love TEXTURE! The Slow progression of the design appearing.
I love putting the colours together-greens, blues, oranges (not so big on the pinks and purples), and for that one can never have enough neutrals; they make the colours shine.
My favourite part of the process is the stress relief and calm it brings me.
Every part of making something new is enjoyable; probably my favourite part is doing the actual stitches. I like to try new techniques each time.
I love collecting yarn, and then choosing just the right skein(s) for a project. When I knit, it feels amazing, to think I’m using two sticks and some string to create something beautiful; it’s like magic!
My favourite part of the making process is picking the colors/yarn to be used. Feeling the textures and seeing which colors look best is just so relaxing and rejuvenating.
My favorite part is dreaming about what yarn that I’d use! My next favorite is once I finally figure out the steps in the pattern. Then I tend to get bogged down in the middle, but finishing is another favorite part, because I can then start dreaming about my next project!!
My favorite part of the making process it the stitching, watching the yarn transform into whatever I want. A sweater, shorts, blanket and everything in between. I also love when it is finished and getting to block the finished product waiting for it to dry and finally using it for it’s purpose 🙂
My favourite part of the process is the planning. I love picking the pattern and then choosing the yarn to go with it. I plan WAY more projects than I could ever make!!
I love choosing colors and stitching! Would totally pass on weaving in ends though.
I love to imagine a slightly different version of the pattern … putting my own spin on it.
then choosing yarn and making it real.
The process itself from deciding what to make to the finished item. Even the small or large interruptions are all part of the process. Sometimes walking away from it can be part of the process.
I enjoy the whole process, but my favorite part is probably the thrill of the CO!! Once I have the beautigul yarn and a pattern to pair with it, Cast On is pure bliss!
My favorite part of the making process is the pretty yarn, getting started, and the finished project.
I think it would be the stitching. I seem to rarely finish anything. I just enjoy 5he doing.
My favorite part is stitching and untangling yarn knots. I’m more interested in the focus of the process, rather than actually finishing anything.
I love feeling the yarn and choosing the colors. And then watching the garment appear as I work.
I’d likely start a sweater, since it looks like I would have a sweaters worth of yarn of the same kind!!
I’ve always been fascinated with the whole creative process and proud of myself if I get it done right! your yarns are beautiful.
Hi Chandi, it’s hard to say what part of the process is my favorite. I think I’d have to say it’s the moment the yarn chooses a pattern or a pattern chooses the yarn! Then I can picture in my head the finished project and it’s so exciting!
I really enjoy the whole kit and kaboodle! The color picking is so much fun as I’ll hit my stash and spend hours searching for the perfect combination – then maybe I’ll need to order some more yarn to supplement my choices!! That’s the best part.
The amazement of a finished project. Not fully believing I created this project. From first stitch to last end woven in, amazement!
The anticipation of what is to come. Choosing the pattern, then yarn, winding it, getting everything set just so. I like it all I must say.
I love picking the colors and watching how a they colors in a variegated yarn play together as I stich them. I also absolutely love just squishing the yarn at every step 😆
I love everything about knitting and crocheting, they are some of the few things that quiet my mind so I can sleep
Blocking is the best part. When you see how it turns out. It can be exactly what you expected or something a little different or something new.
My favorite part of the process is, selecting the yarn weight/colorway. Specially if the yarn is variegated, while crocheting I enjoy the mystery of how the colors will present.
My favorite part is the pairing. Just like a wine and tasting menu, pairing yarn with the perfect pattern and techniques really shows off the potential of the yarn and the beauty of the final piece.
The process of working up the pairing is an experience and the FO brings back those memories.
My favorite part of knitting is when you can just feel the yarn and needles work together with your hands, it’s a sensory thing that’s the best part for me. It calms me, relaxes me, and I find it a very meditative activity. I really love it all as long I have some yarn and needles in my hands, It makes me feel happier.
I absolutely love knitting and crocheting with beautiful soft yarns it helps with my anxieties. But my favorite part of the process is picking out the pattern and matching the yarn for it. Next up is the wearing of the final product. To be able to see and feel all your hard work….it’s absolutely amazing!
My favourite part is watching the fabric come to life off the bottom of my needles. The stitching and the creative process.
Lo que más me gusta es buscar y decidir que voy a hacer y cuales son los puntos a utilizas. Hacer la muestra y elegir material e hilo es lo siguiente que disfruto mucho.
Lately I’ve been very much interested in choosing colors and seeing how they interact in different situations. For example the same set of yarn colors will look totally different when knit, crocheted or woven and within each of these crafts different stitches and techniques will change the look. Endlessly fascinating!
I love your yarn. So easy to knit with
I honestly love browsing for new patterns…. and I have the WIPs pile to match lol
My favorite part of the process would be choosing the yarn and seeing the pattern appear as I continue knitting! It’s amazing seeing my work turning into something tangible.
I can’t choose just one part. It’s like the seasons: I enjoy each one in turn, and I really enjoy that I get to experience each one.
My favorite part is deciding what to make. Once I have an idea of what type of piece I want to create (a baby blanket, a scarf, a hat, etc.) I then start to browse through the patterns I’ve saved over the years. If I can’t find anything there that seems to “match,” then I turn to the internet. Once I’ve finally decided on the pattern, then I decide what yarn to use. Sometimes, I already have something in my stash that will work. Sometimes, I have to purchase yarn. It’s actually VERY rare that I use the yarn that is suggested in the pattern! Then, I grab a hook and get going. But, it’s that initial challenge of finding a pattern with the right combination of yarn that I truly enjoy the most.
Thank you Chandi for sharing all of the AMAZING patterns that you have over the years! Your generosity and love is truly inspiring!
I do love all of it, but color (I favor purples) and texture (I seem to prefer single ply varying thickness). I just received a shipment that included the Arwen’s Gown Kit, and I can’t wait to dive into a project with it!
I love the whole creative process from visualization to project completion.
Choosing the yarn is my favorite part, followed by the actual stitching part. Knitting is how I unwind, so I tend to choose rhythmic intermediate level patterns. I don’t get overly worried about mistakes or things that don’t turn out exactly right. Although I am almost always happy with the finished pieces. The process is the point.
My favorite part is creating texture. That’s why I am now gravitating to crochet patterns that have post stitches and bobbles and lots of other textures.
The process of crochet has taken on a whole new meaning for me in the past week. I grew up watching my mother make Afghans for everyone in the family, even me! She passed away last week and they displayed 6 of her creations that still remained in her guest closet. She used to make the old ripple ones and then moved on to the mile a minute. Later, she graduated to more complex patterns and even to knitting. I learned crochet on my own, after moving away, and picked it back up in the last few years. My sister also crochets and knits, so we share that love from our mother. This whole craft is now a way for me to keep a connection with my mother as I remember her hands moving automatically through the stitches all of those years to bring pieces of her love into the lives of others. She was 90 when she stopped and 92 when she passed. I miss her so much, but this soft art that she brought into our lives has given me a constant connection that brings me peace.
My favorite part of the process is stitching the pieces together and seeing the final shape begin to show. It’s so amazingly satisfying!
I love choosing a yarn and color, very exciting, and then the thrill of seeing it all come together and take shape and feeling a great sense of satisfaction in the finished product. It’s an incredible journey every time.
I find most joy in starting out on the journey with a new project: matching up pattern and yarn – several subsequent patterns, often, before deciding – casting on, and getting the project going. Then comes the part where the novelty is wearing off and there’s still a ways to go, and I am tempted by other shiny new projects … and then, through perseverance, comes the “end in sight” phase, and the actual finishing, and even weaving in of ends.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the whole thing, just in different ways. It’s like loving your kids in different ways :o)
I love all parts of the process. I particularly enjoy it when I have modified a pattern or tried one involving a new skill, and then see that reflected in the piece as it grows.
My favourite is getting a chart for a new pattern. I absolutely love colour coding it, then putting it into a plastic folder to mark off with a white board marker as I knit along, keeping place with my gauge ruler. So the charting process is ideally my favourite.
I love the whole process, but for favorites, it’s a toss-up between texture and stitching
Anytime the yarn is in my hands I’m happy.
My favorite part of the process of crocheting is both the picking the yarn and gifting the final product to who I made it for.
My favorite part is the making the stitches, either crochet or knit. And also, when I’m completely finished and admiring my work!
My favorite part is the actual stitching.
The planning process! Choosing a pattern and colors and texture! It’s so much fun!
Seeing a project take shape is always so rewarding! I enjoy it a lot more if it’s a good texture yarn and a fun pattern!
Honestly the whole process is fun! Choosing colors usually isn’t hard for me, so I enjoy finding or creating patterns that will suit the yarn well. But my favorite part of all is finally weaving in those ends, and looking at the beautiful creation I’ve just made.
I think my favorite part is the stitching. I started crochet as something to do in the evenings being a care taker for my grandma and also as a therapeutic way to relax. The second favorite part is the finished product. Seeing that hard work finalized. Its a beautiful thing!
I love the possibility and anticipation of each step of making. From the beautiful shades and effects of each yarn base, the wide world of patterns, to how they come together and reveal their unique combination. Then once the item is finished, the possibilities for use and styling open up before you.
Love every part of knitting and spinning, but especially picking colors
My favorite part of the making piece is choosing the pattern and the right yarn. It’s also frustrating because then you need to do a gauge swatch! >_<
I love the stitching of it all! Seeing something you created by looping yarn over and over is magic!
I enjoy the process, especially when the finished product meets or exceeds expectation.
I am usually drawn in by the pattern or the yarn. If I can get the two together, I’m in heaven.
I usually can’t wait to finish the piece to see how it looks.
For me, it’s the choosing of the yarn and watching it evolve with different stitches. The way it captures light with different textures always amazes me.
I love choosing yarn for a new project and getting it started. Finishing the project is also great!
My daughters join me for my favorite part, the softness test. When I have 3-5 inches stitched up and we rub it gently against our cheek to feel how luxuriously the fabric comes together. I enjoy all the other parts, but this is the earliest gratification for a project underway.
I love the whole process, start to finish! Each part satisfies a different part of me!
I have a lot of mystery skeins and single skeins. I love putting the colors together and watching my vision unfold before me.
I love finding the perfect drapery yarn with amazing stitch definition. Watching the project come to life and feeling the amazing yarn in my hands as I work brings be so much joy!
My favorite part of the making process is learning something new in the craft of knitting.
I think my favorite part changes from project to project. Sometimes a color just strikes me and I have to see it worked up, other times a pattern catches my fancy and I just want to make it, etc.
Honestly, my favourite part is working with a gorgeous yarn (and I’m not just saying that). The feel of it in my hands and watching the piece come together. If I don’t love the yarn, it just feels like a chore! Both colour and texture are important to me.
Those colors are fabulous! With that much yarn, I would make a cozy Ruana or large shawl!
Wearing or gifting my FOs 😊
I absolutely love choosing colors! I also love gifting my crochet or knitting pieces to friends and seeing them smile!
My favorite part of the Making process is seeing the colors I pick come to life and the internal vision I had for the project turn out just like I visualized.
My favorite part is the finishing of the project and seeing it all come together. Then wearing or using it and knowing that I made it gives me the most absolute feeling of joy.
Its so hard to choose a most favourite part. If a shawl or wrap it is choosing colours, or the progression of colours. If a garment: seaming …. yes I love it …and seeing the garment come together. For all projects ‘playing around’ with stitch patterns, or adjusting shape to make it more ‘me’, or for the person I’m making it for.
I so appreciate your statement: “Worldwide entries welcome.” I think this may be quite unique for crafting competitions. Thank you, it is so lovely to feel included.
…you know, i think my fave part is picking the color(s), then seeing how the item looks as it grows to completion…i agree with just about everyone else about the entire process, but there is something special about having an idea of what something will look like, then comparing that expectation with the finished product…sometimes, the result is breathtaking!
My favorite part is the look on the person’s face when I give them the finished item.
My favorite part is matching the perfect yarn with the perfect pattern and the result that comes from it. When the right yarn is chosen to show off the pattern and the right pattern is chosen to show off the yarn then magic happens.
I love picking patterns to match each yarn!!
Those colours are simply stunning.
Once I pick a pattern, the feel of the wool would be the most important then the color.
Its seeing one of my daughters or my grand daughter wearing the piece I have made for them with all my love.
I love the choosing of a color and visualizing what it can become. So many beautiful colors with beautiful names, that it’s easy to get inspired here.
I would guess my favorite is picking colors for a project. I definitely love all of these May colors. OOOH-LA-LA
Your choice of colors are beautiful. That is my favorite part of knitting …choice of color and yarn. Then when I finish a project..woo, so good.
My favorite part is the gift(s) of inspiration and gratitude, for being just one of the many participants in this wonderful co-creative fiber process!
This is the best collection yet Tim! All my favorite colors to work with all together. Life doesn’t get any better than this.
My favorite part of the process is picking out the colors. Because its a sensory experience. And I get to squish all the lovely yarn!
Reading the pattern then choosing the yarn, unless I got them at the same time, then casting on and setting up the rhythm
I love the stitching! It’s so soothing… and I hate making decisions 🙂
My favorite part is matching a pattern to a yarn.
I enjoy the first evening of working on a piece–the big choices are all made, and casting on and knitting the first few rows always feels like such a hopeful beginning with visible progress.
It’s like a meditation session
Seeing the ones I love wear what i’ve made for them!
My favorite part is seeing how the project progresses., and takes shape. Even after many years crocheting, it’s still fascinating to me to see how the combination of stitches can turn into a beautiful, wearable piece. I just love it.
My favourite part of the making process is selecting the yarns once I have the pattern. I am trying to reduce my stash so I love it when I have a yarn in my stash that looks like it will be perfect for my selected piece…..
Choosing the right yarn for the pattern is my favourite part!
For me it’s matching the yarn gauge to a pattern, then starting making the pattern. I like to create a blend of color also. It is so interesting how every color change when mixed with other color
Chandi and the Expression Fiber Arts team, I love the yarn and Patterns you all make. There are so many beautiful colors, versatile yarn weights & content, and so much more. I cant wait to see what you all come up with going forward. Thank you for everything you all do. ❤️ ❤️❤️
I have 2 favorite parts. Of course selecting the perfect squishy yarn for the project, but the meditative nature of the stitching is so therapeutic! The best part of my day is when I finally get done with all the must-dos, and I can sit down with my project and unwind.
I really adore the making process – I think seeing a project work up is one of the most fun things about knitting!
First of all Congrats to the winner Amanda Damour! The whole process is so exciting for me. Picking out the pattern and then the yarn, seeing how things are progressing but, most of all it is the finished project.
My favorite parts are making the project and the finished product. It feels so satisfying and magical to watch it come together. And seeing and feeling the finished creation elicits a sense of accomplishment and awe. Good luck everyone! ;0D
Just knitting. I need some time every day just for knitting.
What’s your favorite part of the making process: choosing colors, the stitching, the texture, the finished piece, or something else?
I love the entire process, but the finished item is what makes my heart flutter!
I like the whole process, but the actual knitting is therapeutic, so my favorite.
I think my favourite would be having a finished piece. I enjoy the early stages. But I find that most often I’ll finish something if it’s a gift. I sometimes think I’m the queen of WIPs if it’s for me. I really should break down and actually pay for a pattern occasionally.
I love it all, but I think the process might be my favorite.
I really enjoy the picking out the project and pairing the yarn to go with it the very mostest.
I love the whole process, from squishing yarn, choosing colors, the actual stitching, but the absolute best part is the sense of community that comes with it. My yarny friends have been such a blessing to my life, no one gets me like my knitting group does, well maybe my husband…
My favorite part of the creating process is the very beginning – including choosing my pattern, yarn colors and materials and beginning the project. I always love the very beginning when everything is new and exciting, and I can’t wait to see the project begin to take shape!
My favorite part of the process is finding the right yarn for the pattern and deciding which color I want. I really enjoy winding yarn into cakes, as it is part of the process and gets me closer to casting on. Swatching can be fun as you get to enjoy a teeny taste of the pattern and determine which needle will make the best fabric. If I were to win I would make a large cable blanket with some of your beautiful yarn, and a sweater with more. It would be a fabulous win!
I love the entire process but especially the piece growing into its final form little by little. I also really enjoy learning new techniques and stitches which makes every piece special.
I’m a process knitter, I do like the finished project, but I love the process of textured knitting, and lace but when I don’t have the brain space I’m good with just some plan stockinet or garter stitch knitting. It’s about the peace and creating.
My favourite part of the process is choosing the combination of colours, exploring all the beautiful yarns, and imagining the final creation; just apical!
My favourite part when yarn and pattern find each other.
I love feeling the fiber and seeing the colors or texture slowly come together. I know I’ve made something great if I want to pet it as I go 😀
There is quite a lot to be liked about the process of making something. But to me the best part about it is when you gift a piece to someone and they actually like and wear it!
My favorite part of the making process is choosing the pattern 🙂 I usually have the yarn, so I have to find the pattern that matches it. I hope I winn this month, since it is my birthday on May 12, and the colours are magnificent <3
My favorite part is the completed project. love to see the result of all the work.
My favorite part is the actual stitching. I have several projects going at once, and I bounce between them depending upon my time constraints. I mostly crochet, but at the tender age of 75 I am learning to knit. Oh, will I ever pick up speed??
My favorite part is working the stitches. Crochet is my therapy
I think each part is special in its own way. Getting to pick out colors is always exciting. The stitching is therapeutic for me. Getting to watch the project grow and come to life as your working is amazing. Then when your finished you have something you made with your hands its a feeling like nothing else. The cherry on top is when you gift a peace to someone who truly appreciates it and loves it. So for me each part is an experience.
My favorite part is the calming motion of crocheting or knitting the stitches. A close second is gifting the pieces to family and friends.
Can’t sign up for the giveaway
My favorite part is the finished piece! Seeing the finished piece is very satisfying. I also appreciate learning new techniques in the process. I am currently working on a shawl/blanket pattern and watched Chandi’s demo video for magic loop for the pattern – I am sold! I have heard of the magic loop technique, but have never tried it until a few weeks ago. I am glad that I am not the only one when working thru a pattern to experience frustration, frogging, complaining, etc! The satisfaction of completing the first section alone is great, BUT the finished piece will be totally worth it!
I love the whole process of knitting mostly sweaters. First picking a pattern challenging enough and making sure I learn a new technique every time I pick a new design. Then choosing the yarn based on feedback from fellow knitters who have made that same project and then of course comparing pricing and finished object details. Then comes the colors, that will suit my brown complexion and then the gauge swatch to make sure I love the fabric and then the whole knitting process. Finally the end FO. The most satisfying and accomplishment part is wearing my FO and getting so many compliments. So from start to finish and everything in between is what I not like, but LOVE!
I love the process of making, whether that be knitting, crochet, baking, colouring, drawing etc.
Do love when a project ends, as then you gave the excitement of what is next!
I love everything Chandi. The whole process. Sometimes it’s picking the yarn, or the yarn picks you and then you find a pattern later. Or the pattern pops at you and the yarn hunt is on.
My favourite part is the yarn unwinding on the swift! The noise, the visual of it! It all means something beautiful is coming!
I love it all, but I think my favourite parts are starting it (the anticipation of what’s to come) and that moment when you look at the completed piece and feel satisfaction at what you’ve created.
Ooh hard question. My favorite has to be the beginning and the finishing of the knitting project. It can feel tedious sometimes in the middle but I love beginning and ending! Except with socks! I love the whole process with socks! 😉
I love almost all of the parts of making a project but my favorite has to be finding the perfect yarn for a pattern I want to make or the perfect pattern for the yarn I want to buy. I do it often for projects I never start. Lol!
My favorite part of the process is the stitching and texture. Specifically, it’s the watching the growth of the piece and how it changes from the beginning to the end.
My favorite part of the process is probably the making. I love getting lost in the pattern and the way the yarn weaves together to grow something out of a stick and some “thread”.
Ugh… hard to say which part is my favorite. I love it all but I think knitting the yarn and watching it turn into something spectacular is what always gets me.
Enjoy the beginning and when the project comes to fruition; wonderful, lasting, wearable and gift worthy
Oh, my, I just love the feel of the yarn as I crochet a project! That’s the best part to me!
My favorite part of the process is choosing the colors and the stitching.
I like it when the pattern and yarn come together and I can see the finished project in my head. It’s so exciting!
My favorite is probably finding the pattern and the stitching.
My favourite part of the process is the stitching and seeing the project gradually emerge and transform from a ball of yarn to something totally different!
I love playing with the hues of different colors! As I can knit and crochet as well, stitching – or I’d rather say “the magic of creation” – is always taking me into the enchanting realm of peace and calmness. I’m fond of new patterns and I’m always chasing for extraordinary combination of colors and patterns.
I love the beautiful colors and textures of my chosen colorways. I pick up my project and bury my face in its squishy folds as I inhale deeply; your yarn always smells so good! Then I begin crocheting to my heart’s delight! 😊
Choosing the colors is probably the most fun. What beautiful colors are featured in this month’s giveaway! They are a treat for the eyes!
I’m a self confessed COLOR GEEK… there’s something about finding perfect coordinates in colorways that just makes my heart happy ~ especially a variegated (or two) and multiple tonals that look perfect with it… ahhhhh !!! I enjoy the stitching but find myself getting impatient too, with a large project, already dreaming about the one to come. But my FAVORITE part ?? Gifting a wearable or a blanket to someone I love and knowing they LOVE it… this morning I just finished a blanket for my bestie that looks PERFECT with her newly redecorated living room… can’t wait to see it in the room, and see the smile on her face !!
I love the whole process, though I always have some trepidation about whether I bought enough yarn to finish the project. I have some full solo skeins from some projects that I have bought an extra skein!
The colors and textures pull me in first, then it’s finding the perfect pattern to show them off. I tend to like projects that are more heirloom quality even though they may take a long time to complete. For a break, I’ll do something a bit simpler and quicker, generally for charity. I’m working on my entries for the local county fairs right now and may attempt entering something in the state fair.
I am usually making something for someone and I love thinking about them – finding out and choosing their favorite color, their life at present and what they are planning for the future, their happiness (or comfort) to receive it. It’s a lovely connection with family and friends. When I knit or crochet, that ole familiar peace and love for my people grounds me in a way I don’t get from doing anything else. Making something tangible for people I care about is a way to be with my people, even if they are far away.
My favourite part of the making process is the excitement of finding the perfect yarn for a pattern I might have had for a while patiently waiting in line. That’s not to say it will get made any time soon 😁
Choosing the color and then finding just the right pattern – those are my favorite parts of the process. Sometimes, I think that I labor over m matching the pattern to the color as much as I labor over the making of the project. But that’s OK. Every project is a labor of love, even before I know its destination. 🌞
I love Everything but I get particularly excited when I see a pattern that is unique and eye catching. And I know that I could never find it in a store 🥰
I love the planning phase. I spend a lot of time noodling around with my stash on Ravelry, trying to match up skeins I have no plan for with favorited patterns. My plans don’t always stick, but it’s always fun to make and remake them.
Knitting and crocheting are very tactile experiences for me. The feel of the yarn as it runs thru my hands is calming and soothing. That may be why I never go to the dr. without a project in my bag!
I love the whole process. Especially if the yarn has color changes I love watching them shift as it passes through my fingers.
My favorite part of knitting and crocheting is the end product I get once the project is 100% complete, no matter how long they take
I’m a process knitter/crocheter. I have to enjoy the process of making the piece.
I enjoy every part of the process, but especially the stitching and the final product. Color choice is super stressful for me when the pattern calls for more than one or two colors, so I love to see the final product come together and the colors I chose work well.
My favorite part is buying beautiful yarn, adding it to my stash, and finding the perfect pattern!
My favorite part is creating and seeing how the chosen colors work together to make beautiful works of art.
My favorite part about making projects isn’t just one thing. As much as I love seeing the finished project and being able to select another project, I love picking out the yarn and the pattern, planning how to combine different patterns into one project, then crocheting those elements together. It’s so relaxing to crochet, especially when using one yarn color and an easy pattern. I love the repetition, but also having multiple projects going at the same time so I can switch gears for a bit, if needed. Finishing a project is great, but I always feel a little bit lost once it’s done. So much time and effort went into making the project and then it’s just over.
I love the whole process of creating a piece that is uniquely me. Colour, texture, pattern….its all about who I’m making it for.
All of it! It starts with who I’ll be knitting the gift for, then what I’ll be knitting. From there, I’ll choose the either the pattern first or the yarn first. The colour(s) will also be determined by who I’m knitting for. The feel of the yarn is very important. It has to be soft and luscious, both as I knit it and as a finished project. To me, knitting is a very sensual activity.
My favorite part is a little bit after I have casted on and have some rows. I get excited because I can just jump in and work on the project without needing to cast on, worry about casting off, (generally) picking up stitches, or weaving in ends. Also, I can see a little bit of progress so far, and I’m still running off the high of starting a new project.
My favorite part is finishing and finally getting to wear/use my DO!
My Favorite part of the process is finding the pattern I want to make and choosing the yarn. Feeling the texture, the colors, and knowing I’m going to enjoy every moment of what I’m making.
My favorite part of the process is being able to still watch a movie/TV show or hold a conversation while I crochet.
I love learning a new stitch and sharing the process, start-to-finish, with the best people in my life. I also love finding ways to work crochet into my full-time job—data visualization meets women’s history!
My favorite part of making is watching the piece come together and if I’m learning a new stitch then when I master that, it’s an incredible feeling of triumph!
Hi Chandi! Of course, I love the process of making, but I really love the process of finishing a project – finishing off, sewing pieces together, weaving in ends. It means I’m done with another piece!!
I like the texture as I’m making the project and the satisfaction of the finished item.
I love it all, but there is something special about the sensation of good yarn in a glorious colour gliding through my fingers as I knit. Then the act of creating thousands of little loops is positively meditative!
my favourite part is the colour changes, mainly because I do a lot of tapestry crochet. I find working in one colour quite boring.
I think my favorite part might be the cast on process. I love to see the complexity of the pattern, along with the color(s) come to life and that begins with the CO and set up rows. Every row after that grows bigger and you can see more but it’s the CO that starts it all. Also there are so many different ways to CO and I learn something new with each one.
My favourite part of knitting is seeing how the fiber becomes “alive” when the piece is finished and blocked. That change in the garment and the fabric after the blocking, when it truly shows the drape, fit etc.. Love it!!
My favorite part is selecting the colors and watching strands of yarn intricately weave into a work of art. The stitches and patterns give way to unique designs to tell a story of the piece while the vibrant colors and textures appeal to the senses of not just beauty in looks but evoking feelings of comfort from the textures. Our creations become more than a piece of fabric to wear; they become part of reflecting who we are.
My favorite part is picking the pattern and colors. What to make next and what yarn/colors to use is the best!
My favorite part of the entire creative process is the feel of the yarn gliding through my fingers. Watching a project take shape is so gratifying and calming at the same time. Being able to say ‘yes, I made it’ always puts a smile on my face and in my heart.
My favorite part is when I’m crocheting and knowing the person I’m making the project for is going to use what I’m making and know how much I love them.
I love the whole process from beginning to end. Every step holds excitement or relaxation or anticipation to full enjoyment of the finished item! 🥰
I love the whole process!! Choosing the pattern, yarn, colors, and watching the item take shape. And OMG!! This month’s colors are off the charts!!
The hardest part is choosing the colours, but my favourite bit is the stitching.
My favorite part of the process is matching the yarn and pattern
I love the whole process, but my favorite part is feeling the texture of the yarn transform as you make it into something new!
My favorite part is the creating while enjoying the color and texture.
My favorite part of the process is to see the delight on a loved one’s face when I give them the unexpected gift. It makes all the time and effort I put into the project worth it!
My favorite part is the cast-on. After spending countless hours choosing the perfect yarn – considering fiber content, brand, dyer, and of course, the colors- there is something incredibly exciting about finally beginning. The first step feels full of possibility. It’s the moment where all the planning and intention come together, and the project officially starts to take shape. I love the feeling of anticipation, knowing the finished piece will reflect all the care and choices that went into it from the very beginning.
Watching the stitches form–especially in colorwork or variegated yarns, which make it like painting and every row gives the project a different feel as the colors shift and blend.
The very beginning is my favorite part, where you’re getting to pick the colors and you’re all excited about the newness.
My favorite part of making is choosing what to make! Then picking out colors. I also love the finish, it’s so satisfying to see a beautiful thing you made yourself.
I like the whole process. Finding the perfect yarn to go with the pattern and watching it come to fruition!
Hi Chandi and team,
For me, the best and most satisfying time in the making of a piece is the time when, after all the fuss of chosing a pattern, the yarn , the colours (the beads if that+s the case), swatching, etc, and you just sit down and…
… BEGIN
That blissful moment when you “prepared your bag” and take the “first steps” (the first stiches, he first rows) of a new, incredibly exciting adventure.
My favorite part is picking the colours, and winding the yarn when it is time to start my idea. A close second is the peace of working on something when you get into the flow.
My favorite part is watching it grow from a ball of yarn to an actual item, it’s always so exciting to see what we can make and is so inspiring!!
The best part has to be the rhythmic (for me) knitting, stitch by stitch by stitch.
The best part of knitting is enjoying the glorious color and softness of the yarn!!
I am totally a process maker. Using the needles or hooks, wrapping the yarn around them to make each stitch. Seeing the stitch patterns and texture appear with each row. Even changing the order of segments and/or portions of a pattern is fascinating to see how that alters the piece.
I love picking out the colors for a pattern and then just the actual act of knitting it. It feels cathartic!
I truly enjoy the whole process from beginning to end. I particularly like matching the right yarn and colors to the pattern. I feel it can make or break a project, and I enjoy the challenge 😁 I also love the other end of the project, when I contemplate my finished labor of love and decide which name it is calling, who’s the perfect recipient for it.
My favorite part is split between the stitching and the finished product, but I also really enjoy the happiness of the recipient of it’s a gift!
My favorite part is picking the colors.
The discovery! I always discover something new in the process of creating whatever I knit: the feel of a new yarn, the understanding of a new stich or method, how the colors and textures appear, how I overcome (or not!) procrastinating weaving in ends or blocking.
My favorite part of a new project is choosing the colors!! As someone with a degree in Interior Design, coordinating multiple colors together has always been one of my favorite parts of design and it translates seamlessly into fiber arts as well! I love helping others select colors for their projects as well and seeing the finished works brings joy to my heart!
My favorite part is the actual knitting. I enjoy the process – the doing!
I agonize over choosing colors, but almost every time, when the piece is finished, the colors are perfect for it.
My very favorite part, though, is when a project is done. It just seems magical to start with a hook and yarn and end up with something beautiful.
The whole process is wonderful – though yarn and pattern selection can be intimidating. The actual crafting of an item is therapeutic and the final result so rewarding.
The colors for the May Giveaway speak my language – the blues, the wines, the entire palette!
I love the knitting process! And these colors are beautiful!
Even though I am far from being a good knitter, I do enjoy the process of stitching. Choosing patterns or yarn is nice, but since I frequently acquire both yarn and patterns separately, it’s actually a slightly stressful process. It is the stitching process itself that I enjoy. In between classes (I teach college part-time), I try to make sure I have time to knit, even if just for 15 minutes. The way I teach takes a lot out of me, and knitting restores that energy. A late member of my old knitting group wondered at my enjoyment of finishing off a hat. She intensely disliked having just several stitches on DPNs, and moving from one needle to another, and all the things that go into finishing a hat. I love doing that; it’s like a puzzle. Knitting is something I do for me; it settles my nervous system and restores homeostasis within me. And then I end up with something pretty or practical (or both) that I can keep or give away.
I’d have to say my favorite part is the stitching.
I love choosing the yarn and thinking of how great my project will be! Also, this might sound odd, but there’s this certain point in a project (maybe around halfway through) where you can really see it coming together and it’s when I start to feel proud of my work, and it gets me excited all over again to be making it.
Hello! Imy name is Katrina Hegna. I love to crochet. I have made mother’s Day cards for the special moms in my life! I love to teach crochet to my neighbors daughter. We have been working on crosses to give to the uth in her church. It has been really a sweet time to spend with her and catch up!
The entire process is my favorite part. It begins with the hunt for the perfect pattern and a trip to the local yarn store to get lost in the endless textures and colors to find that perfect skein. There’s a distinct tranquility in the rhythm of the needles—a form of therapy where I can sink into a podcast and watch the stitches take shape and shine. But the real magic happens at the end: seeing a finished piece come to life and witnessing the look of pure surprise when someone realizes I made it just for them.
Personally I like the stitching – I’m always worried about choosing the yarn, or the pattern, or the alterations I calculate in advance. And sometimes I’m not 100% happy with the finished piece. But the knitting itself is always fun and relaxing.
I love when I found the perfect pattern with the perfect yarn and color – then the next best part is when I actually have the yarn in my hands, and admire it a bit, before start using it..then the next best part is when (after watching some videos) I see that actually I can make this!!! The last best part is when I can show off with the finished work to my family, friends 🙂
I’m not sure I could pick a favourite part, I love the whole process. From the excitement of a new pattern, to picking out the perfect yarn, seeing the piece come together, all the way to the moment you are done and can take in your work. It’s all exciting and rewarding. but if you want to know my least favourite part, that’s easy…starting chains!!!
The best part is the expression on the face of the person who has been admiring it during the making when I ask them to try it on so I can see it on someone besides me in the mirror….then say “happy birthday”! (Or whatever event I’m gifting it for). It’s the most wonderful delightful feeling ever!
I love starting a new project and seeing it slowly turn into something.
The whole process of making is my favorite part! Picking out the yarn that’s just right for the pattern I’ve finally decided on, lol. Seeing the beautiful stitches grow into finished work, it’s such an enjoyable experience! 💞
I enjoy the whole process!
The whole process is a different journey for each piece. My favorite parts however, is choosing the yarn and having the finished piece in my hands. I get so much joy choosing the yarn and then having the finished piece in my hands. I generally choose the yarn before I look at a pattern lol.
Depends on the project! Most of the time I love the yarn + pattern combo I end up admiring the project mid-process 🤣
Thank you Chandi. I love the excitement of starting making something new. Sometimes it scares me but after I start I can’t wait to finish to see how it came out 😆. That’s the favorite part of the process for me. Have a great weekend 💗
My favorite part would be a tie between choosing/planning/casting on and watching someone use the thing I made and love it.
The best part is the knitting itself — watching the piece gradually take shape. And while finishing a project always brings joy, it’s also tinged with a bit of melancholy, knowing that the most enjoyable stage is already behind you.
Choosing colors and yarn textures
The stitching is my favorite!
My favorite part is a tie between process and texture. I love seeing an object emerge out of nothing.
I like all parts but it is fulfilling to see the project come to life as I progress along.
Nine is a magic number. I would love to win the many nines. It would be a perfect end to an amazing May.
Colors, texture, calming process.
I love getting the new yarn for the project. The smell of the yarn and the feel of it is mesmerising.
Finding a great yarn in a beautiful color is pure joy.
When I have been started a project, I love each sticht as the way is the aim.
Of course, the driving forces are the emerging pattern and the evolving texture of the project.
I love the choosing of colors, it makes the item more special
I love pulling the project together: finding a pattern, them choosing yarn and color combos that work best with it. I’m a great planner! The joy of watching it all develop into the beautiful piece is always so satisfying, to!
The entire process, but mostly when I start seeing it take shape, evolve and transform as I progress.
I think I love it all! A lot of projects I’ve been doing lately are trying to use up smaller bits of yarn; it’s really fun trying to find color combos that work! Maybe that is my favorite part; sometimes the most unexpected colors work so well together in the finished project!
My favorite part is choosing the yarn and moreover the colors !!! I love to see it all come together 😁❤️
The whole process for me. I’m a stash builder, so finding a project to use up my yarn is always a favorite. And then being able to take my time to see my yarn become my item is always amazing!
I like the process. The hardest part for me is picking the colors. But, I do get excited when I get to the halfway point I love seeing it all come together.
I enjoy the whole process: for me it often starts with a knit or crochet pattern that inspires me, or a beautiful skein in a gorgeous color way that has me itching to create a something from it. If it’s a pattern, I enjoy shopping my stash or perhaps looking for yarn to create the pattern. If it’s the yarn, I will then choose a pattern that will hopefully show off the yarn’s beauty. Being able to have the pattern and yarn and finally cast on or start hooking the project is also fun. I like to gather everything I need, prep the yarn by winding it into balls if needed, and place everything in a project bag. Watching a lovely fabric emerge during the creation is also enjoyable. And finally finishing a project is also a wonderful feeling.
Hi Chandi: Thank you again for your generosity in your monthly giveaways. I enjoy the whole process of creating something: first I am seduced by the colors of yarn, but then finding the right pattern is enjoyable too. But eventually it’s the calming effect of actually knitting and seeing the unique project emerge. And finally I am impatient to finish and block it so that I can start daydreaming about the next project!
I hope you get satisfaction from your knitting and dyeing, and providing so much pleasure to everyone in the process.
I like to pull skeins from my stash and put colors together until I find the right pattern for the yarn. Which is a whole other saga. 😆 The knitting and finally wearing what I made with my own hands. 😊
🐸🧶🐸
Finding a pattern then making it your own with color selection through the process of giving it life as a finished project! There’s also a joy in mastering a new skill or stitch!
I love all those things about crafting but my favorite is giving them to friends, family & other people that appreciate them.
What I love most in the creative process of knitting (or crochet) is that it takes me completely away from the mental space that my work requires me to be in, a field of work which I enjoy but which is quite constrained and precise; crafting brings me to another place, one of creativity, openness, freedom to experiment, and which is also contemplative and peaceful.
I love it all! It’s very calming for me!
My favorite part is the beginning when I go rampant through my stash feeling for the colors & fiber that pull me in the most at the time. Then once I get started it’s hard to stop stitching & I don’t want to stop until my project is complete.
My favorite part of the making process is the stitching. Watching how the stitches become a beautiful pattern the more I work on the project.
I think my favorite part of the process is when everything is starting to come together the way I imagined it. That doesn’t always happen, but I do love that. If I can’t pick that, I like to imagine what it will look like when it’s done as I work with the yarn I have to make something beautiful.
