Hello, my lovely friend! Today, I have a flowing crochet shawl pattern to tell you about. This beautiful design features an easy stitch pattern, which is so relaxing! I hope you’ll keep reading to learn all about this week’s gorgeous, beginner friendly shawl!
Gouina was designed by Janica York Carter. When asked about her pattern, Janica said, “Waterfalls are somehow simultaneously peaceful and powerful, majestic and mellifluous. Long, shallow cataracts seem to drape water around the shoulders of land along a river, such as Mali’s Gouina Falls on the Senegal River. This shawl is designed to capture that shape and movement through a simple stitch pattern and colors that flow into each other. Much like its knitted cousin, crocheted linen stitch creates a fabric that appears almost woven. It’s ideal for showcasing the subtleties of hand-dyed yarn.”
This Beginner level pattern is for crocheters who are ready to combine basic stitches to create a shaped wrap. Skills/concepts include the option of learning foundational single crochet. The pattern includes written instructions only.
Gouina is crocheted with our luxurious Pearlescent Fingering yarn, which is a 50:50 blend of Superwash Merino Wool and Mulberry Silk. Smooth with a gorgeous gleam! When you combine these fibers into a single-ply yarn, you get subtle differences in tone, as the wool and silk take the dye differently. Colors dyed onto this yarn base are super rich and saturated and appear iridescent and otherworldly. Pearlescent Fingering is a dreamy, fingering weight yarn that’s ideal for next-to-skin accessories like cowls, shawls, scarves, hats, and more! Unbelievably soft with a lovely drape and a shine that just won’t quit and 550 yds/503 m per skein!
The sample shown here was crocheted with our Waterfall Hues Pearlescent Fingering Kit and used approximately 2,053 m / 2,244 yds total: Color A 120 m / 131 yds, Color B 236 m / 258 yds, Color C 379 m / 414 yds, Color D 472 m / 516 yds, Color E 472 m / 516 yds, and Color F 374 m / 409 yds. Refer to page 4 of the pattern to see the order in which the colors were worked in our sample.
We filmed a video tutorial demonstrating how to get started crocheting this shawl. Take a look!

Hi!! My special yarn rule is that it has to become something I wear every day so I can feel it . I usually wait for the perfect project because I want the stitches to show off the hand-dyed colors . If I won , hopefully yes I would really love to make a cardigan out of these beautiful skeins.!!!
