Hello, my little chickadee! I have a fun pattern to share with you today. Is it a shawl, or is it a blanket? It can be both, so I am calling it a “shlanket.” It’s called Tubucake, and I do hope you’ll read on to learn more about it!

Tubucake was designed by Sharon Simpson. When asked about her debut pattern, Sharon said, “To honor the Fijian side of my family, I chose to name this beautiful pattern Tubucake (Too-boo-thah-k), which is the Fijian word for ‘growth.’ We all have times in our life when we have a choice to grow or stay put.”

“This beautiful design was my growth, and it’s one you can make your own just by the way the hexagons and colors are placed. This crochet motif design, which uses a double crochet in the round, starts with one hexagon at a time. You will find that this design is a joy to make, as one color grows into the next and is enveloped with a beautiful lace border with delicate beading.”

The original version of Tubucake was made with our Sincere Sock yarn. This is a delightfully soft, sweet, and pleasant, fingering weight yarn. This 3-ply blend gets its softness from the Merino Wool and its strength from the Nylon. The base takes the dye beautifully, which results in stunning, vibrant shades! It is a blend of 75% Superwash Merino Wool and 25% Nylon. 437 yds per skein.

Our original sample was made using our Someday Hues kit [Color A) Raspberry, Color B) Dusky Peach, Color C) Wheat, Color D) Gray, Color E) Sage Green, and Color F) Charcoal].

The sample shown used approximately 2,065 yards (1888 m) total: Color A) 412 yards (377 m), Color B) 375 yards (343 m), Color C) 362 yards (331 m), Color D) 387 yards (354 m), Color E) 312 yards (285 m), and Color F) 237 yards (217 m).

The updated version of Tubucake is made with our Moongleam Fingering yarn, which is a dreamy, shimmering 2-ply blend of 50% Cotton and 50% Mulberry Silk that is glowing and buttery soft. Breathable and light and amazing for warmer climates, Moongleam Fingering is ideal for a variety of projects, including shawls and scarves, sweaters, blankets, home items, and more! 437 yds/400 m per skein.

The updated sample was made using our Coastal Hues Moongleam Fingering kit (worked from right to left as shown in listing photo starting with A) Cream and ending with F) Blue-Green.
