Hello, my sweet daisy! I have two special treats for you today. First, our knit pattern this week is a fun, beaded, sea inspired shawl. I do hope you’ll read on to learn more about it! And the second treat is the return of our scrumptious, luscious, limited edition Vellum Fingering yarn!

Plongée was designed by Monica Wesley. When asked about her inspiration for this shawl, Monica said, “Many years ago, I spent a magical birthday in the coastal fishing village of Cadaqués, Spain. Small boats and buoys bobbed in the water, as the last rays of the waning sun danced upon the gentle waves. Dusky blues and grays merged where sea, sky, and clouds met. This is the inspiration for Plongée — a French word that connotes immersion, a plunge or a dive into the sea.”

Plongée features repeating sections of beaded Stockinette stitch, dropped yarn overs, and bobbles that increase in size as you progress. You’ll begin with a Garter Tab cast on, and increase the shawl’s size by adding two stitches at both the beginning and end of each right-side row, as well as one stitch on each side of the center axis. You’ll complete five iterations of a four-part sequence, and then knit a portion of the full sequence before binding off.”

Now for the second treat! Plongée is made with our limited edition Vellum Fingering yarn! This yarn is a luxurious, draping, fingering weight yarn, and it is perfect for items you want to treasure for years to come. The colors are slightly softened and heathered due to the natural, unbleached yak fiber. Vellum Fingering is a blend of 70% Baby Alpaca, 20% Mulberry Silk, and 10% Yak.

To knit Plongée, you will need one skein each of C1, C2, and C3, and two skeins of C4.

87 to 316 yds (80 to 289 m) of each color was used in the sample shown. Approximately 622 yds/569 m [C1: 87 yds/80 m, C2: 88 yds/81 m, C3: 131 yds/120 m, and C4: 316 yds/289 m) were used to make the sample modeled in the photos.

Be sure to order all you need for your project because once these colors are gone, they are gone!

This Intermediate level pattern is for those who feel comfortable with knitting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include Garter Tab cast on, beading using a crochet hook, dropping yarn overs, knitting into the front and back of the same stitch, and making bobbles by purling more than two stitches together.

We filmed a video tutorial for you showing you how to make the bobbles and drop the yarn overs. Have a look:
