Hello, my dazzling diamond! This week, I have a lovely treat to share with you. It is a crochet shawl with pockets called Sue Ellen, and I hope you’ll read on to learn more about it!

Sue Ellen was designed by Patricia Liefeld. When asked about her debut design for us, she said, “I made this shawl for my friend Sue Ellen, who was going through a rough time. In the past, she had expressed interest in pocket shawls, so I knew I had to make her one. Although there are numerous, beautiful patterns out there, none of them felt like her, so I just let my crochet hook take over. She loved the shawl and said it made her cry happy tears when she received it.”

“This pocket shawl is a simple design that uses single crochet, chain 1, and 2 double crochet together. It is easily adjustable in both length and width. However, make sure to purchase enough yarn if you want to adjust the size.”

Sue Ellen is an Adventurous Beginner level crochet pattern. It is perfect for those crocheters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Concepts include basic seaming, garment construction, dc2tog stitches, and working into the back loop only.

Our Pearlescent Worsted yarn is a delightful choice for this shawl. This beloved yarn is so soft and has beautiful drape. It is ideal for shawl patterns and is made with 50% Superwash Merino Wool and 50% Mulberry Silk.

The sample shown here used 5 skeins of our Pearlescent Worsted yarn (220 yd/201 m per skein) and is shown in our Sea Teal colorway.

The shawl measures 16” x 60” (41 cm x 152 cm) after blocking. The sample shown used 986 yards (902 meters) total. The design is customizable, but may require additional yardage.

We made a video demonstrating how to make this pattern. Take a look, and follow along as I crochet a little, mini version of this shawl!
