Hello, my beautiful blossom! This week, I have a lovely, circular shawl pattern to share with you. As promised, it’s the long-awaited, crochet sister pattern to our Camarodonta shawl. Read on to learn more!

Crossaster was designed by Janica York Carter. She says, “Crossaster papposus is the scientific name for the common sunstar, a many-legged starfish. This circular shawl begins with a 12-pointed star motif. Stitches radiate outward in lace designs that froth like ocean waves. If you don’t like to work puff stitches, you can simplify the last section by replacing any puff stitches with double crochet stitches instead.”

Crossaster is an Intermediate level pattern and is for those crocheters who are ready to combine a variety of lace stitches while working in the round. Skills/concepts include V-stitches and optional puff stitches.

Our Alpaca Silk Lace yarn is the perfect choice for this shawl. The 50/50 mix of Alpaca and Silk gives this yarn remarkable softness and wonderful drape and warmth.

Two skeins of each color are needed for this shawl. The shawl uses two colors but can be made with more or fewer, if preferred. Total yards/meters used for this sample: approximately 2,126 yds/1,945 m (Color A: 1,136 yds/1,039 m, Color B: 990 yds/906 m).

The sample is shown in Wild and Free (Color A) and Purity (Color B).

We made a video demonstrating how to work a few rounds of the first section and how to work the special stitches in the next two sections.

Take a look!
