Hey, beautiful soul! Ohhhh, thank goodness you’re here! We have a refreshed knitted poncho pattern for you called Multnomah. Like the stunning Multnomah Falls, the lace pattern in this poncho waves and flows, and the shape falls off your shoulders in perfect elegance!

Multnomah was designed by Jane Vanselous. When asked about the inspiration for this beautiful design, Jane said, “Waterfalls are enchanting to me. Graceful, yet powerful; mesmerizing in their display of the force of nature. During a family vacation one year, we spent the better part of a day exploring several of the many waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge. Each very different, each beautiful in their own way. The most memorable to me was Multnomah Falls. At over 600 feet high, it is an inspiring sight to see and comes with its own charming story of its creation!”

“This poncho may be worn in several ways. When you allow one side to drop straight from your shoulder, the poncho is reminiscent of the steady stream of a waterfall. The poncho is knit as a flat rectangle, using a very simple lace pattern and knitted-on i-cord edge. Before binding off, stitches are picked up along one edge. The three-needle bind off then completes the design, requiring only the weaving in of ends inside of the i-cord.”

This Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate level pattern is ideal for those knitters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Stitches/skills include basic lace, blocking, and seaming.

The updated version of Multnomah is made with our scrumptious Restore DK yarn. When our mill spins up luxury yarns, there are often leftover fibers. So we asked them to gather their fiber tidbits and spin them into this Limited Edition, upcycled yarn base, so nothing goes to waste. Restore DK has gorgeous drape from the alpaca fiber, stability due to the wool, and a subtle glow thanks to the Viscose. This yarn is a blend of 36% Alpaca, 37% Wool, and 27% Viscose with 219 yds/200 m per skein.

The updated sample shown here was made with color Mimic Restore DK (4 skeins needed). The original version of Multnomah was made with our lusciously soft Alpaca Silk DK. The two original versions shown here were made in colors French Bulldog Alpaca Silk DK (single-color version) and Alps Alpaca Silk DK (multicolored version). If using our Alpaca Silk DK to knit Multnomah, you’ll need three skeins.

Our Restore DK yarn is Limited Edition, so be sure to order all you need for your project because when it’s gone, it’s gone!

We made a video showing how to work the knitted on i-cord edging. It’s so simple! You’ll love it, and it makes a smooth finish to the edge of your garment. Take a look!

This pattern contains written and charted instructions, a seaming schematic, and a photo tutorial for the three-needle bind off.
