I am going to try a MKAL. I bought the yarn and pattern. It started January 1st. I have to finish a sweater and wait for the yarn to arrive to start. I have never given up this much control on a project. Kind of scary. I also might be doing 2 projects at once. Also scary for me as I am usually so focused that I can only do one. I have been knitting for almost 30 years. The things I mention may seem easy for most. Not for me.

Hi Chandi,

I want to try different crochet styles like hairpin lace, broomstick lace, double ended crochet and many others. I want to try to improve my knitting abilities beyond just the knit stitch. I still want to learn tatting and try my hand at some lace making.

I am interested in finally learning/doing both knitting and crochet this year, and not letting my health issues getting in the way anymore, even if I only get 1 small part/row/round, ect done per day (maybe week, but preferably day).
As well as to start crocheting amigurumi, which I am a huge fan of! And to hopefully start (and finish?) some amigurumi that I promised as presents over the last few years to my younger brother, a friend of his, my 2nd cousins – who I think of more as nieces and nephew – and especially for my Tia, my great aunt, who turns 100 this April and is doing very well& is very active in her assisted living facility.
And making myself fingerless mitts/gloves which I also love!
And that probably sounds like a lot but these and other hopes have really kept me going through some difficult and unpredictable health issues i’be been dealing with.
Wow, O.o I kinda babbled a bit didn’t I?
Anyway the yarn is so amazingly beautiful! Whoever gets it is very lucky!
Oh, my! There are so many things on my list that I hardly know where to start…a fair isle sweater that I fell in love with on the cover of Vogue Magazine Fall 2018 issue, a sample afghan that has called my name for more than a year, a lace sweater that is forcing me to learn how to read charts (lots of frogging), socks for my sweet hubby and me, too! Then there is beautiful tweed cardigan than I would love to have but it will take time since it is so much color work, a lace wedding shawl for a friend’s daughter who will marry next year, a shawl or two for me, a blanket to take to the movies as I am always sooooo cold in air conditioning. And now for all those unfinished projects that I wasn’t skilled enough to do yet when I began them, a beaded shawl (done except to bead the entire fringe), a swing coat (has a pleated back and I couldn’t get it to lay flat….paid so much for the yarn that I became fearful that I would ruin it), a beautiful jacket in all mitered squares,,,love to work with wonderful fibers but this would cost me nearly $300! YIKES! I cannot rationalize the money for one piece, In the new year, I will work on fearlessness to tackle a lot of new things that I have never done before, There is no time like the present and the only one stopping me is me….am working on a slight attitude adjustment which will reflect the happiness and joy this art surrounds we with each time I do it….I have come to love a challenge, so bring it on! The colors of your yarn is so inspirational that just looking at the pictures you pair with the yarn makes me smile. I have made several of your patterns and loads more are tucked safely away awaiting the right yarn….the possibilities are endless….thank you for surrounding me with the beauty of your inspiration.
Beautiful colors – so calming!

(Perhaps I can crochet some baby hats for the NICU like I did when I first learned knitting on DPNs!)
I am starting a common wealth program for my special needs son this year. I have struggled with the thought for so many years, but finally have the courage to do it! He has struggled in school and his IEP team hasnโt known what to do, so the weight of school is much heavier than the home and common wealth school program. I am starting this next semester. New adventure for us, but I know he will thrive with this program and gain more confidence in himself and in learning.
I’d love to attempt a sweater for myself, this year.
I too am looking forward to mastering brioche this year. I have been so impressed by lovely pieces that use this technique!
This year I need to tackle getting consistent gauge, especially with my color work. I also need to get better with making sleeves. They never turn out the same on both sides…
I am finally learning to crochet this year. I have been knitting for several years and honestly crocheting was intimidating to me. But I watched all of your crochet videos (several times!) and others online and have finally made the leap. A fellow knitting/crocheting friend of mine gave me a whole bag of crochet goodies for Christmas to encourage me to hop on that horse….and all be, it worked! Worked up a couple of dishclothes to get me started. Looking forward to trying some bigger projects just haven’t figured out what direction to go yet. Letting go of the past!! It seems so blasรฉ, I know, but so much has happened in the past 17 years that was “rip my heart out” kind of wrongs done to me, that I literally had to live in survival mode. Now that the younger of the 2 daughters (from my first marriage) just turned 18, I was free to mourn all I lost in those 17 years!! I am married to a WONDERFULLY SUPPORTIVE husband and we have 2 beautiful daughters together!! What more could you ask for? When you live in survival mode for so long, it’s hard to turn the page and live “normally”. (I am anything but normal, LOL) So here’s to a new year and a new me of being able to let go. I tried to make it short, but failed. ๐

Forty-some years ago I made an afghan using what we then called the afghan stitch. There was a huge butterfly of many colors worked into the entire afghan. I just started crocheting again this summer after all this time, and I bought an afghan hook and intend to try something with Tunisian crochet again. At some places in the one I did before I had probably 20 different colors hanging off the back of the afghan. I don’t know that I will do something that intricate again, but I would love to try my hand at it this year. I also want to make a beautiful crocheted shawl for myself – my coat of many colors. I cannot imagine the thrill of winning so much beautiful yarn. I would have to share it, because I know I won’t live long enough to use it all myself!
