Hello, sweet soul! This week, I have a beginner friendly, knitted, basketweave shawl pattern to share with you! I just love this shimmery, silky design, and I think you will, too! Keep reading to learn all the lovely details!

Cestino was designed by Elisabeth Carr. When asked about her pattern, Elisabeth said, “Cestino is a shawl with a lovely basketweave pattern. Worked from the corner out, instead of the center, this shawl is made with simple stitches and increases. The stitch edges are slipped, rather than worked in garter stitch to make a more fluid look. With several repeated rows, this pattern is perfect for knitters who want to make a colorful, but easy shawl.”

This Adventurous Beginner level pattern is for knitters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Skills/concepts include knit and purl stitches, slipping stitches, Make 1 Knit/Purl, working with multiple yarn colors at the same time, and carrying yarn up the side.

Cestino is made with our divine Allure Fingering yarn. Allure Fingering is an elegant, 100% Mulberry Silk yarn with luscious drape, dreamy softness, and incredible color saturation! This 2-ply yarn has beautiful structure and is long-wearing. A special delight when you’re ready to treat yourself to something sumptuous!

The sample shown here was made with our Quetzal Hues Allure Fingering Kit [218 yds/200 m per skein (1308 yds/1200 m per six-skein kit)] and used approximately 1100 yds/1006 m total: Color A: 180 yds/164.5 m, Color B: 180 yds/164.5 m, Color C: 200 yds/183 m, Color D: 180 yds/164.5 m, Color E: 180 yds/164.5 m, and Color F: 180 yds/164.5 m.

We made a video showing how to get started knitting this shawl. Grab your needles and some yarn, and follow along with me!
