Hello, my delightful dewdrop! I hope you are having an amazing day! Today, I have a bright and sunny, summery shawl that features gorgeous textures and a lovely gradient fade. I hope you’ll continue reading to learn more about this week’s breathtaking pattern.
Alectrona was designed by Patricia Liefeld. When asked about this shawl, Patricia said, “When I mention that I live in the desert, people think of lots of sand, cactus, tumbleweeds, and boring. But the desert is actually a beautiful place, especially in the early morning. The desert sky comes alive at sunrise. The sun peeks out over the mountains, while the clouds above create beautiful shades of yellow and pink.”
“This shawl, which is inspired by Alectrona, the goddess of sunrise, captures the beauty of our sunrises. As you work, you will hold two strands together. Sometimes it will be two strands of the same color, and sometimes it will be two different color strands, which creates a marled effect. I hope you enjoy my sunrise.”
This Adventurous Beginner level pattern is for those crocheters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Stitches include bobbles and decrease stitches. The pattern includes written and charted instructions, as well as a schematic.
Alectrona uses our incredibly popular, Limited Edition Blossom Fingering yarn in some of this year’s newest colorways! Blossom Fingering is a perfectly beautiful blend of 50% Bamboo, 30% Merino Wool, and 20% Lyocell that is soft and draping with a subtle shimmer. The Lyocell gives this yarn a subtle glow, and various stitches will reflect the light differently. Blossom Fingering is a gorgeous, fingering weight yarn that’s ideal for multi-seasonal use and is perfect for shawls and wraps, garments, accessories, blankets, baby items, home decor, and more! 402 yards/366 meters per skein.
The sample shown here was made with colors: A) Golden Ray, B) Blooming Tree, C) Renascent, D) Pollination, and E) Bird Feeder. You’ll need one skein of each color. Our sample used approximately 1,760 yds/1609 m total: Color A: 257 yds/235 m, Color B: 402 yds/367 m, Color C: 365 yds/334 m, Color D: 350 yds/320 m, and Color E: 386 yds/353 m.
This yarn base and this year’s colors are Limited Edition. Once they are sold out, they are gone for good, so be sure to purchase all you need for your project.
We filmed a video tutorial showing how to work the special stitches used in this shawl, as well as how to get started with the Magic Circle cast on. Take a look!

I started this project and I’m loving it!
In row 15, what does it mean (B in next DC?)
Do you add the color B with A or just use color B?
Thank you.
Hi Irma, thanks for your question. No B is the abbreviation for bobble. So you’re supposed to make a bobble in that stitch. I hope this explains it. Have a nice day! – Johanna 💕
Ok, thank you so much!
Is there something wrong with row 8? It seems like there is an extra sequence in the repeat from star section. Even when I eliminate that sequence I come up with 36 dc not 32
Hi JP,
thank you for your message. I’ve double checked the stitch count and the instructions (as did Patricia) and Row 8 is correct. Please make sure that you aren’t losing your spot in the pattern and repeating one of instructions by accident. Please let me know if you continue to have trouble with it, I’m happy to connect you with the designer. Have a lovely day! – Johanna 💙
I have the same problem with row 8. Redone it 20 times….close to giving up
Hi Christine, I’m so sorry that Row 8 is giving you so much trouble. As I mentioned in my reply to JP Row 8 is correct. Please let me know if you continue to have issues and I’ll reach out to the designer. – Johanna 🩷
I’m on row 21. I’ve followed the directions three times, but when I count up the stitches when I finish the row, I get way more than 68 dc. Is that number correct?
Hi Deborah,
thank you for your message. I’m happy to help. The stitch count it correct, Patricia double checked it previously when a question came up on this row. How many double crochets do you count? You’re also welcome to reach out to Patricia directly if needed. Here is her email address: [email protected]
Have a lovely day! – Johanna 💞
I end up with 98, but I’m recounting it by groups to see if I’m counting it wrong.
Johanna – it’s a mistake on my part…I went back to the photos and where you have 4 DC I seem to have 6. Must be a reading comprehension problem because I’m reading it as DC, ch 1, DC, DC, ch 1, DC, DC, ch 1, DC. Wich maes a total of 6 DC. But the picture clearly shows there’s only 4…I guess I’m not reading it right.
Hi Deborah,
I’m glad you figured it out. Please, let me know if there is anything else I can help you with!
Have a lovely day! – Johanna 💕
