Hello, my blooming blossom! I want to share with you an easy and versatile, knitted shawl pattern called Entangle. This shawl was co-designed by Jennifer Matlock and yours truly, Chandi Agee. Read on to learn more!
I’ve always adored the Feather and Fan stitch! It’s simple, easy to memorize, and yet so lovely and elegant. It was one of the first stitches that I learned when I first started knitting. This gorgeous stitch, along with repeating color changes, results in a stunning wrap.Â
Jennifer and I chose colors that have a vintage vibe and are reminiscent of a leisurely stroll through a secret, forgotten garden. I love the idea of overgrown vines, twisted limbs, and flowers out of control!Â
This Beginner to Adventurous Beginner level pattern is perfect for those knitters who are just beginning or have knit a project or two. Stitches include simple decreases and increases, color changes, and reading a chart.Â
Entangle uses our Ephemeral Fingering yarn. This is a super soft and luxurious, plant-based yarn! It is made with 69% Peruvian Pima Cotton and 31% Lyocell. It is just a divine, draping, and sumptuous yarn with a gorgeous gleam!
The sample shown used approximately 1675 yds total (371 yds Color A, 364 yds Color B, 364 yds Color C, 364
yds Color D, 212 yds Color E) / [1532 m total (340 m Color A, 333 m Color B, 333 m Color C, 333 m Color D, 194 m Color E)].
However, you can knit this easily adaptable shawl with any colors or yarns that you desire.
We filmed a video tutorial for you showing you how to work this pattern. Take a look:

Where is the new red, white, & blue yarn that is available for preorder?.
Hi Anne, this is our Emphemeral Fingering base and you can find it here: https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/categories/fingering/ephemeral-fingering.html
Some of the colors are already sold out so I’m not sure that you’ll be able to get all the colors that you wish.
I am currently knitting Entangle but on row 5 I end up with an additional 27 stitches! So I now have 153 stitches when I started with 126! What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
Because you’re not too far along in the pattern, it’s likely the issue is happening in Row 3: k9, *(k2tog) 3 times, (yo, k1) 6 times,
(k2tog) 3 times; rep from * until 9 sts from end, k9. The knit 2 togethers and yarn overs will cancel each other out, so be sure to double check that you’re knitting all of the k2tog’s that are called for. Another way to “read” Row 3 is: k9, *[k2tog, k2tog, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, k2tog, k2tog, k2tog]; rep from * until 9 sts from end, k9. Hope that helps.
Hi Chandi,
I was knitting away with 129 stitches cast on and the pattern didn’t come out right. Do I need to c/o 129 for the body plus 18 for the borders?
I successfully knit a sample with 36 stitches for a shadow box. Love this pattern.
Thanks,
Jeannine (humbled knitter)
This pattern begins with a cast on of 126 stitches, not 129. The 126 stitches includes the border stitches. See if that works out better for you.
Thank you, Monica.
Prayers for your safety with the storm today.
You’re welcome! I actually work remotely from Wyoming, but I appreciate your thoughts. Take care!

If you’re simply trying to find where to download the pattern, you can find it at https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/entangle.html
the pattern says *K2tog 3 times, YO K1 6 times, K2tog 3 times* then you start again *K2tog 3 times so you are doing K2tog 3 times, twice, before you start YO K1 6 times?????
Hi Kym,
thank you for your message. I’m happy to help!
I assume you’re referring to Row 3 of the Body section. Let me write out Row 3 so there is no misunderstanding.
Row 3: k9, [k2tog, k2tog, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, k2tog, k2tog, k2tog] repeat the instruction in brackets 6 times (you will have 9 sts left), k9.
I hope this helps. If you continue to have trouble please, don’t hesitate to reach out to us via the contact form at https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/contact-us/
Have a nice day! – Johanna 💕
Ephemeral pattern:
For color change T1-T8, what does DROP mean? Leave it hanging or do I cut it? If I am to carry it over, will that give me a messy edging? Sorry, I’m super-duper new to knitting. Thank you in advance for the explanation.
All the best,
TinaMarie 🧶
Hi TinaMarie,
thank you for your message. I’m happy to help with that. Yes, that means you’ll kind of let it hang but actually what you want to do is carry it along the edge (do NOT cut it!). We have a tutorial here (https://youtu.be/Xgmv4Dkezlo) that shows how to carry yarn along the edge and catch it so it doesn’t make a big loop. It will not look messy btw. 😉
I hop this answers your question and is helpful. – Johanna 🩷
