Hello, my sweet friend! Today, I have a lovely, knitted cowl pattern to share with you. It features a beautiful, all-over Linen Stitch texture and a fun, zipper closure. I hope you’ll keep reading to learn all about it.
Margalo was designed by Anne Robinson. When asked about this pattern, Anne said, “Margalo is a simple, structural cowl. The design, named after the songbird in E. B. White’s Stuart Little, is knit in EFA’s Enduring Worsted on smaller than average needles to produce a fabric that is tight and soft. The Linen Stitch body takes on a woven look that is clean and modern. The cowl is knit flat and has a zippered closure that is sewn in after the piece is knit. E. B. White does not specify just what variety of songbird Margalo is, but looking at Garth William’s lovely illustrations, I have always imagined her to be a wren: small, industrious, and brave. The beautiful colorway Leaves is reminiscent of a wren’s humble plumage. This cowl is meant to fit tightly to your neck to keep you safe and warm in the winter time.”
This Adventurous Beginner level pattern is for those who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Concepts include linen stitch and sewing in a zipper. The pattern includes written instructions, as well as a photo tutorial.
Margalo is knitted with our Enduring Worsted and Luster Worsted Mini yarns. Our snuggly soft and cozy Enduring Worsted yarn has a nice, tight twist, which results in beautiful, defined stitches and projects that will hold up incredibly well. I custom designed this yarn, so that it’s durable enough for items you want to wear and love for a long, long time! This yarn is a blend of 80% Superwash Merino Wool and 20% Nylon and has approximately 180 yards (165 m) per skein. It’s ideal for next-to-skin accessories like scarves and cowls or sweaters, sweet baby items, blankets, and so much more!
Our glowing Luster Worsted Mini yarn is truly a joy to work with! This yarn is a beautiful blend of 50% Superwash Merino Wool and 50% Lyocell, giving you that silky glow and drape without sacrificing squish or softness. Each mini skein has approximately 87 yds/79 m, and a five-skein kit includes about 435 yds/395 m total—perfect for accessories, colorful accents and surface embellishment, and sweet projects made with intention. The shimmer is subtle but stunning, and every stitch feels like a little indulgence.
The Single-Color Margalo sample shown here was knit with two skeins of Leaves Enduring Worsted yarn and used 312 yds (285.5 m) total. The Multicolor sample was made with our Twilight Fog Hues Luster Worsted Mini Kit and used 288 yds (263.5 m) total.
