My rule is NO RULES! Some skeins are acquired for a particular project, others to age gently until needed.
I like your rule 😃
I like to wait for the perfect project for the yarn.
Depends…sometimes i will cast on right away….sometimes I wait for something perfect.
I am so with Susan, there are NO RULES when it comes to beautiful yarns like these. They scream “make me into some fun spring or summer top”. But the pattern would have to be just right!
No rules really. I let the yarn “speak” to me .
My rule is to trust my gut. If I come into ownership of yarn spontaneously, with no active project, I let the yarn become what it wants to be. If I go get yarn with intention, it’s almost immediately casted. Either way, whether practice or final form, all yarn I get is a masterpiece awaiting
I agree here, but I do also agree with Sara ⬇️ Sometimes it just screams at me from the shelf 🤣 begging me to cast on!
This is more Temptation than a rule but when I have new yarn I want to use it right away I want to try something I want to get a plan I want to dream about what I can do with it
I would find the perfect projecs for these beautiful colors.
I have to agree with Carol. Sometimes you just have to wait for the right pattern for some yarns because some yarns are too beautiful to just rush into it. But I would have to say that a rule I have is, “When in doubt or dont know what to crochet or just want to get your crojo back, make a granny hexagon cardigan.” Its a classic and really fast and easy to make, and you end up with a beautiful masterpiece. With the purple yarn, i would make the “Firebird” sweater and then with the variegated yarn, i would just make the simple and classic sweater. With the pink, coraly yarn, i would make the “Almond Flower Blouse,” and then the rest of the yarns, i would make Shawls, like the “Sa Pa” or “Midnight Grove” or “Inspirazione.”
Agree. Best rule is no rule for yarn. I love these bright colors.
I’m definitely a no rules woman!
Sounds good. I wait until my stash and Ravelry library aligned.
I agree with Susan as well. Sometimes I purchase yarn for a specific project, sometimes I just love the yarn. I have had some skeins in my stash for over ten years, waiting for them to tell me what they want to be when they grow up. Some skeins, especially from my travels, are just for petting. They help me to relax, dream, and remember beautiful experiences.
These yarns are such yummy colours I would have to get started right away. One item for me and then deciding which colour for each of the females on my gift list Can’t wait to start?
I have some yarn I bought more thana year ago that I STILL haven’t found “the perfect project” for 😂
That is a great rule, NO RULES! There’s no right way, no wrong way, as long as you’re doing what you love and enjoy the making. 🙂 Of course, having something beautiful when you’re done is always a plus.
Perfect!
Practice the pattern with cheaper yarn first to be sure I love the fit and look.
I agree. Sometimes you just have to have the yarn and sometimes its for a project. Mostly for me its the have to have it
I have no rules sometimes I just enjoy looking at the beautiful colors and dreaming of what I might make.
I love casting on as soon as I get new yarn but sometimes it’s best to save it for later.
Fancy yarn siends tine being loved before being used
It really depends. When I see a particular yarn, it can inspire me into creating something beautiful. At other times, my heart sees a speacial yarn that I have to have for that unknown perfect project I have yet to identify. If I were to be blessed enough to win the yarn… I’d have to sit with it, touch it, and see what it inspires me to create from it. It could be blankets to donate, it could be beautiful tops or shawls to share with others… it could be some of everything.
My only rule is that I have to rearrange my stash periodically so that I can appreciate all of the beautiful yarn I have accumulated, even if today isn’t the day I will be using any given skein! As for what I would do if I won this giveaway, one thing is for certain, with these being colours I absolutely LOVE, none of them would be resting in my stash for long!
Truly special yarn waits for the perfect pattern until the time comes when sense kicks in–it’s yarn and there’s lots more out there. USE IT!!! I love the purple in this month’s offering, so I’d look to make a cardigan or pullover or two, plus share with friends.
I would cry!! Then scream that I am never leaving the house. I would then put this amazing yarn in the safest of dragon hoard storage and get to work playing in the soothing springs of buttery soft beautiful yarn!!
I just love to crochet and make beautiful things. They just come to me and I make them
It depends. Most times skeins just call my name and say, “buy me and take me home” to wait for that special project.
I love casting on new projects but have a rule to never have more than three WIPs at a time, so sometimes I just stash yarn away with a pattern for the future! I would be able to fulfill so many of my wishlist projects with this yarn! I have shawls and sweaters and hats and so much more just waiting for the perfect yarn!
Amazing designs deserve amazing yarns ❤️
My rule: Always, always, always, put my yarns, my WIPS, my ideas, in impervious, sealed containers when I am not actively working with them, so that my sweetheart a-hole cats do not strew, spread or disassemble skeins, balls and WIPs in cats’ cradles across my house for their entertainment. Other than that, handwork has no rules!
My only rule for myself is that I dont allow myself to have more than two projects going at a time–a small one and a large one. I would never get anything finished! I usually have projects in mind when I buy yarn, but I rarely get to cast on right away because of my one rule.
I usually have two projects that I’m actively working on and then a long list of future projects as I find more yarn/patterns that inspire me!
Depends. Some skeins are purchased for a specific project and others are for future unknown projects. This month’s collection shouts shawls and summer tops.
Oh so many things to make! I usually buy yarn I love and then find the perfect project!
Every project is a special project which requires a special yarn! I have a bunch of patterns waiting to be crocheted, so I know my soul will just say YES to the “right” colors!
Oh my gosh…sweaters, shawls, cowls galore!!!! 😁
Cindy, I am the same way! I buy the yarn with a project in mind, then something else often gets high priority and the new yarn often sits around until something calls me to it.o
Lovely yarn as always!
It usually depends. Sometimes I have the project picked before hand or I would have a yarn color I like and try to find the perfect project for that yarn color.
With these gorgeous skeins, I’d love to make a lot of cute spring set—maybe light tops and matching bottoms I can live in.
It depends! Sometimes I have the perfect project for a yarn, other times I have the perfect yarn and don’t what to use it for! There would be so many options for this month’s group. All these colors are perfect and a good marled gradient item.
I’d like to knit a luscious sweater with this yarn!!!
I don’t have any specific rules. Sometimes I will buy yarn for a specific project and I will either write on the pattern what yarn to use or I will mark the bag holding the yarn to indicate the project it’s for. Other times I just go through my stash when I find a pattern I really like. I do have to wait sometimes to start a new project until I finish other some of the several projects I already have going.
Sometimes I have a project in mind and sometimes yarn speaks to you and you discover its purpose later. This yarn would be such a luxurious treat for me! I would have to pick the perfect projects. My first granddaughter gives me lots of ideas though!!
I wait for the right project, but sometimes I’m impatient 🙂
If I buy a gorgeous single skein that I couldn’t resist in the shop, I don’t usually have a project in mind so it would wait for the perfect project.
For these lovely skeins, I’m thinking a couple of short sleeve tees but I’d also share with my knitting group, since this is a lot of yarn!
I don’t have a hard and fast yarn rule, though often the yarn itself lets me know what it wants to be! This yarn is saying cozy wrap to me!
Gorgeous! Just what I needed to see on yet another gray day. It has rained at least a little every day this week and one day the temperature dropped from the 70s to the 30s just a couple of hours.
Currently “special” yarn waits for the perfect project. It has its own storage spot, while other yarn is grouped e.g. sock, DK.
The rules of the heart is what I follow, meaning, if I get a yarn that is not specifically for a project, then, I may just cast on a new project just to use the beautiful yarn. I think to me it’s more about the tactile experience of using the yarn and admiring its beauty, than the finished project itself. 😅 With these skeins, since they’re all my most used shades…especially the turquoise which is my favorite color…I would make summer fun tops, shalws and even attempt a cute dress for my daughter, since she’s a smaller size than I 😅🤭. Thank you Chandi for always having these giveaways and being so kind. I appreciate you
I usually wait for the perfect project! Occasionally I have a project in mind when I purchase yummy yarn! I want to make a few tank tops this year! These would be perfect for that!
I don’t really have any specific yarn ‘rules’….which is a little odd, because I’m in general a rule follower. With these spring colors, I’d make sweaters for me and my granddaughter.
I have yarn cakes I bought 4 years ago that are still waiting for the perfect project to come along and I also bought yarn this week and immediately started work on your gorgeous Trellis pattern. So, I guess I don’t have rules?
I prefer fingering yarn for my crochet project s.
I usually go with the “flow” and let the yarn “talk” to me…
Sometime I find yarn and it simply screams to me what it would like to become. And other times it rather likes to keep quite for now and waits for it’s purpose.
I usually let the yarn inspire the project if it’s special! Hmm what could I make with this, and go from there. Some yarn is definitely bought for already in mind projects but I love making new things.
Such gorgeous colors! They just look like April, which happens to be my birth month! Sometimes I will immediately start on a new project with special yarn, but other times I wait until it tells me what it wants to be. Happy Spring everyone!
My rule is, it depends! Some yarn I know exactly what I’m doing with and others wait until I find the right pattern or inspiration!
I think I’d love to make some shirts or cardigans with this yarn!
I try to plan my yarn purchases for specific projects, because I love looking at patterns and yarn combinations, but sometimes I can’t resist buying some yarn just because it’s beautiful!
In some cases the yarns grab me, insisting that my home become theirs. In other instances, the project comes first, then I have to find the perfect yarn. The order I’m waiting for at the moment is a combination of the two – most are for this year’s MALs – I ordered for the year for both projects, lest the colors disappear, but others are simply because they called my name. There’s also the fact that I had a reward waiting to be used, so I took advantage and placed one big order.
I usually stash it away until the project finds me
My “special yarn” rule starts with fondling the new yarn, either in my LYS, or when it arrives by mail, or however it comes to me. I also find I like to look at colors under different lights: sunny days, cloudy days, indoor lights, to see how its mood shifts. And I like to compare it/pair it with other special yarns in my stash, to see if it’s a loner or a sharer_ I have several go-to patterns that like gradations, and others that like contrasting colors to emphasize particular stitches, colorwork, and shaping.
If I bought the yarn for a specific project, then I usually start it right away. If I buy because its pretty, it usually takes me forever to decide what ot do with it. These beautiful skeins would probably become some kind of wearable.
I fall in love with beautiful yarn, and somehow, a project always presents itself!
If it isn’t purchased for a specific project, I either wait till I have the perfect project for it, or I find one (especially if I’m actively trying to de-stash).
No rules for me either. I crochet what moves me at the moment. Or not. I just love doing it, so much!
Holy macaroni, is what I would say! Cannot wait for KnotStars xoxo
As a freeform crochet and knitter, my motto is Be Bold! I love combining all sorts of fibers and colors. Right now I’m working on neck pieces for Christmas presents next year. I would love to do a throw with your magnificent yarns.
I don’t follow any rules… I buy what catches my eye and figure it out after!
Yes. I usually wait for a that special pattern to go with the special yarn I bought. And what would I make with all that yarn? Maybe a big granny square blanket incorporating all the colors or a few different sweaters.
I’ve done both- cast on right away or set aside for later. With this bright and cheery collection I’d have to make some Spring and Summer tops.
My “rule” is to buy yarn for a specific project, but occasionally I fall in love with a certain colorway that I can’t live without! I would continue my sweater/cardigan streak with this bundle! Gorgeous!
When I find a yarn I love I care on right away. Or. I spend time hunting for the right sweater yarn.
I would make everything!
I look for a pattern that I love as well… and cast on right away!!
No rule just can’t walk away from the beautiful colors and soft feeling of yarn.
Some skeins are purchased for a specific project. Others are “Ooh, pretty” and I try to figure it out later.
I keep good yarn for special projects! I buy them because they’re beautiful but don’t always have a plan when I do. I’ve been able to pull from my fancy stash for make-alongs this year so far!
I wait for the perfect pattern before I cast on, but then once I do, I make sure to always leave an imperfection or two.
I would make all of the fun spring/summer projects with these colors – light tops, shawls to wear with beautiful sundresses, and things like that.
I wait for the perfect project!
I’d make a pretty top and cardigan!
I usually buy the yarn because it’s beautiful and figure out what I will do with it later… lol. But I would love to make a colorwork sweater out of this yarn. That pink is stunning!
My only yarn rule is that *nobody touch my yarn!* lol
Seriously, though, that is some gorgeous yarn. ❤
I don’t really have a rule. It’s more of a feeling. Sometimes I wait for the perfect project, sometimes I have to find the right yarn for the project. I would love to make some sweaters and tops with this beautiful yarn.
I wait for either inspiration to strike or the perfect pattern to come along.
I try really hard to only order yard that I have a project in mind for, but you have ruined me. Sometimes I order just because it is so beautiful I can’t bear to not hold it in my hands (I’m looking at you, Dragon Lore).
I don’t have rules. I’d probably use this yarn to make something for my daughter since I think she would love these colors.
No rules! I will admire and pet the yarn until it speaks to me.
I collect yarn until it matches to a pattern. The pattern and yarn call to each other and tell me what to use the yarn for. So I won’t know how I am going to use this beautiful yarn until it tells me.
I am all aflutter over these colors!! They are so luscious! I would wait for the perfect project. Might share some with daughter though…
No rules at all, everytime I buy yet more yarn it doesn’t matter if the last project is finished yet it HAS to be started right away.
All that georgous yarn would be a dream, so many patterns of yours still waiting to be started. (And finished haha)
Knitting or crochet it’s the only thing that keeps my hands busy and my mind still.
Very cathartic
My yarn rule – I have a stash waiting for the perfect projects to use them and then I have yarn that I buy for because I need something specific that I don’t already have in the house that I am using immediately.
I was raised to always save the “good” stuff for special occasions or the perfect moment. Unfortunately, that means that a lot of things end up going bad or never getting used because that perfect moment never came. I have been working to fight that instinct and make the thing with the good yarn so then I can enjoy it. There will always be more good yarn in the future!
My special yarn rule is if it inspires you and you can envision what gift you could knit with it then buy it before it’s gone. Then follow the inspiration and put your heart and love into every stitch! With this yarn, I could knit so many beautiful gloves to give away!!! or hats or socks. All in fair isle of course. I love every bit of your yarn I have purchased and have a small stash.
I look for the perfect pattern 😍 or 2 or 3 😂😂😂
Most of the time I wait until I found something I want to make with it…..nothing wrong with being a yarn hoarder 😂
I’m with you! A lot of the yarn in my stash is waiting for the right pattern. But this year is also my year of completing so I am committed to completing those WIPS that have been awaiting my undivided attention, while also casting on new projects 🙂
I try to only buy yarn if I have a project in mind for it. Ideally I would then cast on right away, but often I need to modify a pattern or make a new one up to make it ‘proper’ for the yarn, which means too often the yarn languishes while I plot those adjustments 🙂
I wait for the perfect project.
I do wait for just the right project and a swatch is a MUST. I would use this yarn to make loved ones some special items ❤️
I am newer to crocheting, my daughter taught me a few years ago. Initially I bought every skein that “felt” good. Now with my mounds of yarn piling up, I’m being more selective. With the Expression yarn, I purchased it to make 2 of your patterns. These will be for me and not given away. They are my go to yarns when I need to crochet and feel good about life!
I love these colors–so springlike! I usually let the yarn whisper to me what to create with it and these colors are perfect! I think they would also tell me to try something new with a project.
I like to wait for that perfect project for the beautiful yarn. These colors speak beautiful shawls and wraps to me!
The rule I am trying to make stick is to buy enough yarn if it’s an impulse buy, I can find a project that isn’t limited by yardage. So many times I’ve picked up single skeins and had to make socks when it would have been better as a sweater or scarf.
These are absolutely stunning😍🔥It depends on the yarn…some I keep for a certain/special project & others I use for socks & hats for gifts & charity! I’d use these beauties to knit myself a shawl!
My special yarn rule is to not fool myself into thinking I don’t need more yarn! I would wait for the perfect project but I would definitely find one of your patterns and make one of the gorgeous shawls or summer tops.
I love hand dyed yarn because they are really unique. I always work them in a special project specially when someone want something different and somthing that no one else have.
Well, isn’t this a beautiful bit of spring color?! Lovely! I am not sure I have a “special yarn” rule. Sometimes the yarn says just what it wants to become. Other times, it needs a little rumination to decide the perfect project.
No rules for pretty yarn here. It waits for the perfect project; or maybe it’s the perfect gift for that special knitter or crocheter.
Some are bought with a project in mind. Some are bought just because I loved it. And some are bought as a souvenir from a trip which, as we all know does not count toward stash.
Special yarn, I always buy with a project in mind so I know what quantity to get!!
Thank you for the chance!
I usually get yarn for a specific project but I rarely get to cast on right away, too many wips! These colors are gorgeous and I would love to make a blanket out of all of them!
No special yarn rules for me but I do n ed to give myself pep talks to start a project… casting on or chain and enormous amount of stitches can be daunting and overwhelming… worse part of new projects. Once that’s done it’s clear sailing!
Squish them. Admire them. Squish them some more. Enjoy looking at them while letting ideas run around in my mind.
For yarn this beautiful it’s definitely a wait for the perfect project ! I have some yarn from here that’s been stewing for a few months now I haven’t found its project .
I would love to knit more of your beautiful shawl patterns that you have on your site. I love your design and the softness of your wool.
It completely depends! I do both, cause sometimes I don’t have a specific plan, but a good deal is a good deal. 🤣
I have no idea what I’d make with these. Probably a shawl or two (or three, or four…there’s an awful lot of yarn there 😂).
I have no rules! I buy yarn as projects catch my fancy but I also have skeins in the stash waiting on the perfect project. So many beautiful skeins I could make matching things for my kids and family ❤️
I am impatient, but usually try to do one project at a time, so sometimes the yarn has to wait.
If I have really nice yarn, I use it for special projects when I find them. I would use some of this yarn to make my mom a beautiful shawl.
I don’t have a rule, per se, but I do always try to have a project in mind when I buy yarn. It doesn’t always work out that way but I do try.
Truly beautiful yarns like these will always find their way home with me. I usually spend hours trying to decide after the fact what they should become.
I use yarn as the spirit moves me. Sometimes certain skeins and patterns just feel right. I absolutely love your yarn so it would all go to wonderful projects. I donate a lot of my knitted pieces.
Gosh, special has to sit like a fine wine until I find the right pattern or come up with a new idea. Some yarns tell me what crochet project it needs to become.
Haha! I definitely buy yarn that catches my eye and that I can’t live without. And then I spend the rest of my life figuring out what to do with it. But! I always find a project because the patterns are endless 😁 Thank you for the opportunity to enter this contest!
I usually wait for a special project! I like to plan it out, BUT – I think I may start formulating a plan for this yarn haul ahead of time 🙂 I typically see the project/inspo first, and then have to source the right yarn.
Most of the time I let the yarn tell me what it wants to be. Sometimes I have a pattern or type of garment I want to make and the yarn I need to make it makes itself known to me.
I try to keep to one project at a time, but often get the yarn for my next one before I finish the current WIP. Things will slow down for the summer soon as I spend more time on the garden, but these colors look like something I could get inspired for in the summer months for sure!
I tend to be a save for a perfect project person with the nice yarn I’m gifted, but I usually buy things for a specific project rather than just to have it.
My rule is I only do projects that feel good. If I start something and I’m not feeling it I stop and find something I’ll love to work on.
The rule: no more than two wips at a time! Special yarn sits and waits for the perfect project!
Lots of sweaters and tees!
Some yarn is purchased “just because”, yet other yarns, I’m on a mission when I purchase it.. I can see a turquoise and lime green shell for summer, a purple circular shawl and a variegated jumper in your arms! 😁🧶
I’m a planner, so I have an idea of what I make before I cast on.
I am so picky–I want to have evvvvvvverything before I start a project–all the needles, all the yarn, buttons, everything–before I even do 1 stich!
Generally, I wait for the perfect project.
I go between buying skeins with a project already in mind and buying beautiful colors to hold for the right idea. Those provide squish&cuddle therapy in the meantime.
Some yarns demand to be started immediately, and others want to sit and stare at me, either waiting for a companion color or the right pattern, then they start screaming to be used.
I’m working on using the special yarn. I have some skeins that I bought quite a while ago, and I haven’t used them because I hadn’t found a project that was “special enough” for the yarn. I’ve recently decided not to stress about having just the right pattern, and instead to enjoy using the good yarn!
Sometimes I’m afraid to use my good yarn, and I want to test a pattern with less special yarn first. Other times I dive right in with the good yarn.
I used to love the idea of the yarn, all the possibilities, more than starting a project. I guess I was afraid of commitment? Now I just know that the perfect project will come along when I am open to it. Right now I’m making a beautiful lace top using the Firelight Fable luminous tweed fingering, and it’s a delight to see something I stashed turn into something I will love to wear. It’s stunning. I have lots of EFA special yarns stashed, and they make me happy.
My rule is if it’s pretty, I get it 😅 although I try now to at least have a pattern in mind. I wish I could cast on immediately! But too many projects lines up
Hi, Chandi! I usually don’t purchase yarn unless it has a specific project. In a case like winning this gorgeous yarn, I’d HAVE to use it right away, just to feel it running through my hands as I work. It’s so lovely! Hugs!
My hard and fast rule is that I can never have too much yarn (despite the fact that my stash is now BLE [beyond life expectancy]). I am recently retired so I think I would start to revamp my wardrobe by making some luscious personal items if I’m lucky enough to win.
I always like to have a project going, but sometimes it takes a bit to find the perfect match.
These colors are so beautiful, I’m sure I could find a perfect pattern/project in no time.
I always let the yarn speak to me. It will tell me what it wishes to become. Example….when you released your lovely Adeline shawl I fell deeply in love with it and knew I wanted to make it with the yarn I’d bought from EFA. I found a lovely purple green and off white sock yarn that quickly told me it was the perfect yarn. It turned out so lovely. I then decided I needed to make another Adeline shawl. This time the yarn that screamed at me was the first yarn I ever bought from you, Stardust in pearlescent fingerling. It’s amazing how many times the yarn makes my decision for me.
No rule. The perfect pattern will appear eventually. I have a few projects that are waiting for the perfect yarn. I am waiting for the perfect yarn for a sweater for myself.
When I find a pattern that I can’t resist I look for the perfect yarn for it. But there are times when the yarn is so irresistible that I buy several skeins, look through my patterns to find the right one, sometimes I have to let it age a bit until I aquire the perfect pattern.
As to this beautiful mixture, I can see very beautiful springtime shawls or open crochet afghans. Love these colors!
Every yarn i buy from you is so special. I usually spend hours looking at patterns to make, with the pretty and soft yarn. I make a label for the yarn and print out the pattern. I keep them safe in a container with a lid. At the ,moment I’ve trying to keep,up,with the mkal, of course I’m behind . But I love the yarn we r using. Enjoying every stitch, even if I make a mistake. Hugs
I would pick my favorite color from the bunch..,after much deliberation 😂…and cast on.
I buy yarn almost exclusively on vibes 🙈 Sometimes I figure out what it will become quickly, other times it gets added to a “yarn bouquet” in one of my yarn bowls so I can admire and appreciate it until the exact right project comes along. 💜
Usually I buy yarn that speaks to me and then find a pattern to best use it in. Less often I’ll see a pattern that I love and then find yarn to knit it up with. Sometimes that yarn is already in my stash.
Would absolutely LOVE to winthis for my birthday (April 20th) Since I don’t partake in what most people do on 04/20, this would be 100 times better to be.
Some projects i would jump right on, others, id want to think on for a min. But so many beautiful, luxurious yarns to choose from!
I love starting projects right away, it helps me to actually use the yarn so I can enjoy it by using it! I do have a stock pile of patterns that I’m waiting on the perfect yarn for though!
I usually by yarn with a project in mind, however once I receive the yarn that project may change or be eliminated. I also buy certain ‘special’ yarns for ‘just in case’ purposes.
I wait for the yarn to “tell” me what it wants to be. 🥰Sounds crazy, but sometimes it tells me right away, like the sugar fluff yarn I bought earlier this year. It wants to be a big shawlor small blanket I have it about 1/2 done, I think.
So I love all of these beautiful colors not sure what they’d want to be until I win them! 🤣
My rules are loose but ever so often. I finish all the projects I have started. Sometimes I spot the project and buy the yarn and sometimes vice versa
I always plan certain yarns for certain projects, but it almost never works out that way! Sometimes you just have to wait and see what the yarn wants to be when it grows up!
My rule is generally to keep projects that use different hook sizes ongoing at the same time to reduce wear and tear!
I think this yarn would make a lovely springy shawl, or something like a striped dress for summer <3
My rule is…don’t mess the pattern up! Haha. I’m newish to crochet and even newer to knitting- but I love all kinds of fiber arts!
I tend to save “special yarn” for a special project, assuming I don’t already have one in mind when I buy it. Your yarns are beautiful!!
Some summer tops, perhaps a nice cardigan, or a dress!
I usually try to have a project in mind if i’m buying yarn, as not to accumulate too much then it “disappearing” (thanks, ADHD). B
My rule is… If you really really really love it, buy enough for a blanket, because it may not be there later when you decide you’re worth it! No regrets. I have so many projects I want to make I can always find a something to cast on right away because I get so excited to have a new yarn in my hands. With these beautiful yarns I could make so many of the blankets of my dreams… and cardigans, shawls and socks, wow!
When it comes to yarn, there are no rules!
I knit a lot of gifts for friends, baby gifts etc. I would probably make a few gifts for friends and try a pattern or two that I have wanted to make but didn’t have the right yarn. This is my favorite set of yarn in the give away since I have been shopping EFA yarn
My only rule is to enjoy the process! I love crocheting blankets at the moment. Have a lovely day.
I either wait for the perfect project, or start going through my patterns till I say yes! that particular wool would be perfect for this. Eventually the wool will be used, even if it takes a little while.
Most of the time I buy yarn for specific projects but occasionally I’ll buy yarn because it calls my name. If it calls to me I search for the right pattern and will wait a couple of weeks to make sure it’s definitely the right one. I have no idea what I’d make with these beautiful yarns, definitely wait for the right pattern but I’m guessing at least one shawl and definitely something for my mum.
I see a project and then I buy, as I have many projects going so ideally buy pattern then fibres.
Thanks so.much
I would immediately cast on the purple yarn to knit a sweater; being as ECU fan, it’s a “no brainer”! Then, I would pick out a tee pattern to knit a special top to wear to church. Gorgeous colorways!
il m’arrive d’adopter des fils parce que j’ai le coup de coeur, et après je trouve un projet qui leurs vont bien par toujours rapidement.
The only rules I have is ‘if it isn’t going to fit in my storage tubs it goes on the Wishlist to buy in the future’ and ‘one project at a time’ Otherwise, one project stays unfinished while others are completed, and I struggle to get back into the one waiting. Another thing I do each year is to pick one challenge project each for crochet and knitting so I learn another technique or stitch. If I were to win this yarn, I would love to make some of the patterns I have in my queue from EFA most especially Banda by The Crocheting Carr, Creek Bed Wrap by EFA and Photoperiodic by Cari Jehlik.
I usually get the yarn because I love it and then find a pattern for it. The same for a pattern. I love the pattern and have to find the right yarn for it.
Such a beautiful spring inspired collection of yarn! I have no rules. I let the yarn, or a pattern, influence my making.
I am a yarn hoarder!!! I have a few favorite skeins (mostly hand spun) that I have never figured out what to make with them because, once they are used, that’s it!! No more dreams of what they could be. haha Other than that, there are no rules!! Sometimes I buy a skein, bring it home, wind it and sit right down and start a pair of socks. I knit two at a time because finishing one and still having another to make is discouraging for me. Other times the skeins go in a box and may sit there for years, to be handled and loved on from time to time. Yes, I have lots of boxes of yarn!
I usually wait until the perfect pattern comes along to cast on although occasionally I find the perfect pattern and then hunt for the perfect yarn!
If I buy a yarn because I fell in love with it then I typically wait until the perfect pattern finds me!
My special rule for knitting or crocheting is that when I make something for someone, I think about them as I create and say a small prayer for them. This becomes a part of the fabric. I have met knitters of different religions who also do this and it is a way to incorporate complete love and our very best wishes into every stitch.
I am such an impulse buyer, getting lost in color and softness, resulting in a stash too lovely almost to use. My yarn budget is low these days when it’s hard to afford food, but dewey dk is my fave yarn and weight. I have tons of patterns saved up to knit it crochet if I would win this hoard!
I make sure I have enough yarn for each project. Since knitting and crocheting are my passion (correction – addiction) I might have more than one project on the go on any.given day. Mostly I give away my finished projects, it’s the doing that gives me pleasure not the having. If I won these gorgeous fibres I would probably knit one of your shawl patterns. And that finished shawl would be a gift to myself.
I usually find yarn I love and buy what I hope will be enough to make something when inspiration strikes.
This is me also. I see a beautiful yarn that catches my eye, buy what I hope is enough and wait for the perfect project to show itself
Beautiful yarn. Every purchase has been exactly what you showed. Very happy with my latest orders.
What a wonderful month this would be to win. My birthday is 04/20 & I’d much rather have this than that other 4/20 stuff, since i do not partake. Lol. Some projects i could start right away and some i could put off for for a bit.
If I purchased the yarn for a specific project then I will cast on as soon as the yarn arrives. If I just had to have the yarn then I put it in my yarn cabinet until I find the perfect project for it.
Yarn tells u who it wants to be and will fight u if u try to force it into a form it dislikes.
My one yarn rule is that I only work with yarn I like. If someone wants me to knit something for them I will most likely decide which arn to use.
What a beautiful collection! There’s enough of each color to make a rainbow of sweaters, cardigans, and t-shirts! I’m very much a cast on when I feel inspired by yarn or pattern. There’s sori much to be inspired by here. ❤️
Hello Chandi
Purchasing yarn for me is like fabric..I see something beautiful, have some thoughts about the perfect project for it and buy it. Sometimes it’s an immediate cast on, but usually it lies in wait for a certain person or project.
I don’t have a particular rule in place.. Sometimes I buy yarn for a project and I 3nd up using it for something completely different, other times it just sits there until I have “the calling”.. It’s always a gut feeling – I guess that’s the only rule 😅
I tend to usually wait for the ‘perfect project’, unless I can envision something right away!! I’d love to make a cardigan. 🥰
Sometimes I buy for a special project, other times I buy because it deserves to come home with me even if I don’t want/need it. I eventually find a project for them, may tike some time, but I do use them.
These days I buy something that “speaks” to me…usually about a shawl. With the prize, probably a crocheted blanket (because knitting one would take forever)…but you never know! That’s the joy!
I tend to hold on to special skeins and display them all around like the art pieces they are! I have broken that rule to make a special garment and it warms my heart. I would have to craft a lovely summer top from this cache if I won but honestly, most would remain on display, surrounding us in beauty
I’m a wait for the yarn to speak to me kinda gal. Beautifully curated giveaway, as always 😍
I wait for the yarn to tell me what it wants to be. Lovely collection for the giveaway!
I think it would be fun if you identified the yarns that are included with each month’s “drawing.” (maybe the month after when you announce the winner). I realize it is $1000 worth of yarn, but some folks might be interested in recreating the stash for themselves. Just something to think about. Love your yarns, and the community that has built up around EFA. Thank you.
I don’t have any rules. If I did, I’d break them as soon as I could! LOL I try to only get yarn for projects I’m about to do, budget being what it is. BUT! I make special exceptions for like, the yarn crawl, say. Then all bets are off! Of course, winning some gorgeous yarn, well, that’s out of my control. Something in me DID sit up straighter when I saw you holding all the yarn. There is something about all those colors together, even though I know they’re different weights, they sparked a creative mote somewhere in my mind.
Definitely cast on if the yarn is something I have been anticipating to work on to make something; otherwise, it gets stored in the yarn dragon’s stash 🙂
I save my special yarn for just the right project. Only problem is I forget about the project sometimes, lol.
For special yarns, knitting kismet plays a huge part in my process. With your yarns, I tend to get them and wait for the perfect pattern to appear/ occur to me. It works out better than trying to buy yarn for specific patterns, which frequently doesn’t go as expected. Letting the yarn lead the way has proven to be far more satisfying in my experience.
A special yarn rule I have is to finish something I started before starting a new project, so I usually stick to shawls and simple designs. But with this yarn, I would search through patterns to find something worthy of the yarn and immediately try something a little bigger than my usual projects.
I can go either way. I will buy a yarn because I fall in love with it. Or I’ll fall in love with a pattern and then start shopping for the yarn. If I had this package, I would make a prayer shawl for those who are very special to me.
I have no rules….I collect and when the moment seizes me I knit with the pretties I’ve collected.
These are beautiful spring colors!
Rules for yarn? Do you need rules for yarn?
Some yarn I buy because I know exactly what I am going to make and how much I need. Some yarn I buy because it is beautiful and some day the project it is meant for will be revealed.
My moto: Buying yarn and making things with yarn are 2 different hobbies!
Oh i definitely wait for the perfect project.
I have a “few” projects in my mind and all the yarns for them ready, but i still hold back and perfect them in my mind. I don’t use any patterns for these.
But yet, every now and then i cast on right away when i find the perfect yarn =)
Oh I definitely wait for the perfect project!
I’d love to knit a sweater if I won this giveaway.
I think I would be speachless as I know when I opened my last order from you I was amazed at how gorgeous the colors were. You are truly talented! And very sweet.
I don’t really have a rule, although after buying a decent amount of yarn just because, I mostly like to have a project in mind before I buy. Even so, it still sometimes waits for a time because there just isn’t enough time in the day.
With the yarn this month, I can see socks, shawls, and maybe a sweater or two.
I’ve never used ‘special’ yarn… not yet anyway! But I would definitely need a special project, something that is timeless but not boring. I love knitting but can also crochet, so if I did win this amazing giveaway, I’m pretty sure I’d have the best collection of homemade sweaters, cardigans, gloves, hats and shawls! These colors are absolutely stunning. Thank you for the giveaway.
I would have to think about the right project for the yarn. Sometimes this happens quickly other times it takes me a while
My only rule is no buying new wool until I’ve used at least half my stash…but winning is not buying!
Mostly I fall in love with a yarn and purchase it with no particular plan and match it to a project later. Sometimes I plan ahead, though. I’d love to try a sweater with these colors!
Buying and using yarns are two separate, wonderful hobbies. Yarn shall not be constrained by rules. 😀
Definitely save for the perfect project.
These I would love to use for a spring flower blanket sampler. What amazing colors.
I have so much yarn from expression fiber arts, I have used some for pretty nice sweaters comfy and soft, but my rule is buy enough and use it when the right project reaches my way, other times I buy it with a project in mind… ❤️
Rules? No one said there were rules. I try to let the yarn speak to me, let me know what it has in mind.
I’d love to make a drapey ruana or kimono in these yummy spring colors and a summer shawl, a top or two.
I like to find just the right yarn for the right person, then pick a project!
Yarn rule? lol. If it’s pretty it needs to go in my stash.
I have dozens of perfect projects calling my name, requesting my attention and, maybe,… just waiting for the perfect yarn ; )
Speaking of perfect yarn, that’s a beautiful display right there! It looks like spring!
My special rule: give each project my full attention, working only on one project at a time, from its birth until I am ready to release it into the world.
Nessuna regola, compro il filato che mi piace e poi penso a che progetto destinarlo, a volte succede il contrario..
I don’t have a hard and fast rule, but when the yarn speaks and tells me what it wants to be, I listen!
I tend to buy a beautiful yarn and then always store it waiting for the perfect project and then I am afraid of using it. I love to crochet garments, and accesories like bags, scarves and shawls.
I try to save it for that special project but it depends. Sometimes I just can’t wait.
I think there are no specific rules for me, BUT, I always have the “most beautiful “ yarn that I don’t want to use because of same reason: it’s simply beautiful! 😍 Thank you Chandi for this opportunity! ❤️
I have to find a pattern before I buy special yarn. Often the pattern changes before I use it but that’s still my rule. I would love to make a spring shawl and poncho! I really enjoy making wearables to up my wardrobe game.
My special yarn rule is probably that I will only make something that won’t wear out too quickly. If I won April’s yarn giveaway I would definitely knit a lovely spring blanket with those beautiful spring/summer colors!!!
Rules? I guess I’m lawless concerning yarn. Usually I await the perfect project for special skeins. They always seem to show up eventually. Other times, I have a pattern for a while before the perfect yarn appears. This month you are offering an especially beautiful assortment!
I definitely have to wait for the right project! Unless I’m getting yarn for something specific then I can cast on immediately!
I don’t have any rules. I just make what I feel like making and hope for the best lol. Though sometimes I find a pattern and I feel like I have to wait for the right yarn to come along to make it.
My one rule is Love What You Make because it’s too much work to make something you won’t love. If I won this specific giveaway I’d make a memorial shawl with matching fingerless gloves. My mom unexpectedly died just this last Monday and my birthday is weeks away. We found out she had terminal cancer just 3 weeks ago but were told that she had at least 6 month. So we started planning what my last birthday present would be from her. I asked her to really think of something I could cherish. Something she could pour all her love into and would sustain me until I could see her again. She was unresponsive only a few days later and died, never leaving the hospital, never coming home to me again so I could take care of her. She was my best friend. One of the colors you’re giving away is her favorite color and one is mine so I would do a set I could wear using the butter yellow and lime green. Maybe it’s meant to be. We’ll see. She absolutely loved your beautiful yarns, I still have a color way I bought for her but ran out of time to use..
I would search on Ravelry until I find the perfect pattern to knit. I’ve been known to be on for hours upon hours just pattern searching. Thank you for your generosity, Chandi. You are special.
I always wait for project inspiration – for any yarn, regardless of how nice it is. I always get inspiration eventually. I do have to say, though, yarn like this definitely calls for something extra special. I would love to use this yarn to make a sweater pattern I have been eyeing for a while. It can also work in reverse, haha! Having the perfect pattern, just waiting for the right yarn to come along ❤️
I think you looked in my closet to chose those colors. Lol. Love ❤️ 😍 this group of yarns. I have saved some of your patterns in a notebook waiting on the perfect yarn. And I have 1 on the hook right now. My stash sits around waiting for inspiration. Like yesterday I met a young lady who is learning to crochet for her baby, so I gave her a set of needles and 3 large skeins of yarn. Loved seeing the smiles on her face.
If I were to win the giveaway, I would use some of the yarn to make something for myself. I’ve been knitting and crocheting about eighteen years now and have only kept two things for myself out of all of that time. Everything else has been gifted away. I would like some summer sweaters and some cardigans for myself. Maybe use some to make a shawl for my niece’s wedding.
Thank you for the opportunity!
I usually buy special yarn with specific projects in mind, but when I don’t… I tend to underestimate myself and I’m always waiting until I feel “good enough” at crafting before I tackle something!
I don’t have any rules. Sometimes I buy yarn just because I like the colour and know I’ll find a project at some point in time to use it, sometimes for a particular project like a jumper for my husband – he chooses the pattern and the colour!
My rule is that it must be pretty and affordable! It doesn’t necessarily need a pattern yet, just that it brings me joy!! Also, those purples are scrumptious!!
I like to wait for just the right project.
Rules are good and not so good. With yarn sometimes I hae a pattern and look for a special yarn, othertimes I just love the yarn and then hope I buy enough to make whatever pattern I find later. Sometimes it works out and other times it doesn’t, but beautiful yarn is just fun to look at and feel. Good luck everyone, but I hope I win.
I have no rules. Some yarn is for a specific project, some because it spoke to me, and some skeins are hanging out while I ignore one project for another.
If it’s fingering weight then it’s meant for socks. 🧦Knitting socks is my zen happy place. Though I’ve been acquiring DK and working up to knitting a sweater. Someday when I’m brave enough.
I always have trouble choosing just the right project but I want to push myself to use it so that it can be enjoyed no matter what it is!
My ‘special yarn’ usually waits for the perfect print. Sometimes, though, I cast on immediately to swatch- how will it drape? What type of stitch looks best in this yarn? What does it want to be?
This yarn definitely includes at least one sweater and one rectangular shawl- and maybe a triangle shawl. It might have a lap blanket, too. 😊
No specific rule, but I do tend to hoard the really special yarn (that speaks to my soul) until I have the perfect project for it. For example, I have been hoarding a few skeins of lace weights alpaca silk yarn for a while until I saw your video on Friday for the Sa Pa shawl. The yarn is now caked and on my needles.
The only real rule I have is that I’ve got to like the yarn. I’d prefer to have a pattern to help me select the yarn weight and how much to buy, then pick the brand and color. I love collecting yarn with hopes of finding a way to use it. This month’s yarn would make a beautiful blanket.
I don’t have a rule, but I probably need one 😂
I have all sort of rules, I can find all kind of rules to get new yarn, and I always plan to use it all. But, also true, in time I get more selective and I can better control my impulses.
I don’t have any rules, sometimes I buy yarn for a specific pattern, but if a yarn catches my eye and won’t let go, I’ll buy that for later, and I wait for it to let me know what it wants to be. Oh what wouldn’t I make with that bundle of wonderfulness if I won it, lol! 🥰
I have no room to store yarn that I have no plans for…. but, to an extent, I do it anyway. My thoughts on yarn are pretty much the same as cats, if I had the space there would never be another homeless cat or skein of yarn!
How on earth can I decide what to knit😵💫 so much colours and yarn choice. I feel like a kid in a candystore,🍭 no even worse, a knitter in a yarnshop🥳🌞
There are no rules when it comes to yarn! Store them, use them, share with my sister…Whatever I feel like 🙂 I’ll probably make some sweaters and shawls with these gorgeous yarn!
I don’t think I have many rules I know I do wanna crochet with the pretty yarns right away though 😂😂😂
When I see a yarn that I like, I try and think of something for it before purchasing it. This does not always happen and if I just like it especially this months colourway I will just buy it and think of something later.
I have no specific rule, sometimes I’ll see the pattern and the yarn and know it’s meant to be, and other times it just needs to sit and ponder
I always hold onto my special yarns, waiting for the right pattern. Then I wait some more, just to make sure.
With those lovely skeins in juicy colors, I could make a sweater and a cardigan, then who knows what with the leftovers.
As soon as I find a pattern I want to knit, I search for the perfect yarn. I don’t like to hurry and always take time to thoroughly read through the pattern, counting stitches and making detailed notes as I go. I like to take my time knitting too. I’ve knitted a lot of accessories and am now transitioning to garments. I would definitely be making sweaters and vests with this yarn. The colors are bright and beautiful; perfect for Spring.
I love casting on a new yarn, but there are definitely more than a few “special” yarns in my stash. My goal lately has been to find those perfect projects and start using the special yarns.
Ooooh, that purple is sooo gorgeous! I sometimes buy yarn with a particular project in mind, and sometimes just because I like the colour or the squishiness of the yarn.
Those yarns would definitely make a lovely sweater or two, or a throw, or some shawls, or some socks – who knows what it might grow up to be. 🙂
I think it depends on the yarn AND how much I already have cast on! 🤣 but sometimes, special yarn gets bought because it’s pretty and I don’t have a project in mind!
For me, a yarn as special as anything from ExpressionFiberArts would definitely be for special projects. I’ve never been able to afford to buy your yarn before but I really want to and it’s on my to-do list! I would use it for special clothing and gifts, and would probably start straight away, just for the joy of using it. I find crochet and knitting are very sensory experiences and that using a beautiful yarn that feels amazing makes such a difference to the experience. I value this even more since crochet is my main avenue for relaxation and stress-relief in a very difficult family situation and caring role.
What’s your “special yarn” rule? Do you cast on right away or wait for the perfect project? What would you do with these gorgeous skeins?
My rule is have no fixed rule! When I buy yarn the majority of the time it is because I fell in love with the color and texture. Sometimes I have a project in mind and sometimes I don’t. I wait until inspiration or a big want comes up that requires I use that special yarn. I don’t think I have ever feel in love with colors at expression fiber arts like I have these skeins! I absolutely love all of them! I am thinking a sweater and socks for these colors.
Such gorgeous wool. I make it a rule to knit the special wool first. I generally get the special yarn with a particular pattern in mind, so I am confident to get started.
I just adore my yarn. I look at it, stroke it and admire it. When the perfect pattern arises, I’m so happy to cast on.
I try to have a project in mind before I purchase something but oftentimes, the yarn is just so pretty that I throw that rule out the window and buy it.
My ‘rule’ is trying to find the perfect project for each yarn I have, so I don’t have to buy more and it doesn’t use too much less then what I have 😅
It depends on the yarn because sometimes it project specific and sometimes its to sit in my stash until inspiration strikes
Apparently I hide it from myself for years due to low confidence. I’m trying not to do that any more.
There’s no rules 😊 I have a carefully curated ravelry queue with yarn bookmarked for each project, and many bundles of favourite patterns. But said queue and bundles are more aspirational than realistic. Sometimes a yarn demands attention, sometimes a pattern does. Sometimes there’s an itch for a particular needle or hook size, or stitch pattern, and then a yarn and pattern better show up to match that.
These skeins would fit very many moods 😊
I used to find a project then buy the yarn but now I buy the yarn and then wait for the perfect project. I would use this yarn to make tops and shawls.
I prefer fingering yarn for my crochet projects and
I do my usual thing…look for that perfect pattern (sweater, tee) for xyz yarn, narrow my choices to about 5, swatch/block, and maybe (!!!) I’ll pick THE ONE that will be my project! A new shawl shape to knit will always be ready to make & that list is longgggg. Absolutely love your yarn AND colors! Thank you for always bringing me a bit of sunshine & cheerfulness every day!
Some yarns grab you then and there, and you know exactly what it’s ment to be. Others wait on the shelf like special ornaments, waiting for that perfect project to be found. What I’d like to make out of it is, shawls, baby clothes and blankets and maybe something special, just for me.
Sometimes gorgeous yarns I get speak to me and tells me what it’s meant to become, other times I’ll have a purpose in mind and go searching for the perfect yarn for it.
Generally, I find I get ideas first, then colour palette for things I’m intending to make – and when I am gifted yarn, I wait to find what it’s meant to become.
No rules per se. Cast on’s can be spurred by yarn or pattern and then the appropriate partner is then chosen… I’m a definite mood maker.
Spring has sprung in your arms, Chandi… they’re blooming marvelous!
I would have to cast on the soft ‘Lellow’ straight away. Miss 4 becomes Miss 5 in May and ‘Lellow’ is her favourite colour. It would no doubt be a jumper seeing as we’re heading into our cold months.
I hope you’ve had an awesome Easter, Chandi! 🐰🐇
No rules! I always go with my gut. When a skein and a project match up and I feel it I go with it!
My rule is I see it and love it and I buy it. I’m always on the hunt for that special pattern for my stash.
I wait for the yarn to tell me what it wants to be – it may take months or even years, but when it knows its own soul, it will let me know
I am strongly led by color. I almost always buy yarn without a definite project in mind, and let the yarn inspire me.
Oh such beautiful yarn. I would make some yummy scarves for the ladies I work with. ❤️
I usually spend hours and hours searching for the perfect pattern. Then I become frustrated and give up. One day much later I happen to find many patterns I need to do, and then start four or five projects within a couple days of each other. I do eventually complete most of what I begin. If I won, I would make a sweater. I’d like to put two complementary colours together and do a brioche pattern. I haven’t done a larger brioche project yet.
My “rule” is to go with my gut and listen to what my heart and the yarn are telling me. So, if I like it and I can find a pattern to cast on right away too great, if not at least I have a pretty yarn waiting in the wings for that special something.
As for what I would and could do with that beautiful yarn, I am thinking vibrant summer tops first. I would follow those up with a flowy cardigan or two for cool summer nights. The possibilities are quite numerous.
I have to save it for the perfect project
Oh my goodness… rule you ask? My rule is, there is no rule! 😉In my experience the perfect yarn and perfect pattern always find their way to each other!
Thank you for this wonderful opertunity!
I always look for the perfect project because I don’t want to waste my beloved wool on an object that I don’t find particularly beautiful.
The sweater Malvarosa or Millefiori, the cardigan Rubato, the poncho Agate, the shawl Hardscrabble, top wicker, shawl Noel are on my project list.
Hopefully I am the lucky winner this month. HAPPY EASTER!
There’s a prayer shawl ministry at the office manager’s church. If they accept contributions from members of other churches, I’d love to donate some shawls made from this yarn! There are 2 go-to shawl patterns I love, and one of them I have almost completely memorized. (It’d be completely memorized, except that I like to do “pi stripes” for the color changes, and I always have to print out the first 10 digits of pi when I start a pi stripes shawl.)
That’s a great question! I don’t really have yarn rules per se. I tend to purchase yarn when I see a gorgeous color or a beautiful kit that really speaks to me. But I don’t use it until I find a pattern that I know will be liked & the finished project used. I’d use April’s amazing yarn giveaway to make beautiful shawls and summer tops and try out some new yarn weights. 🌷🪻🧶
Oh, what a beautiful bouquet of yarn! I love to crochet lacy wraps, and I see so many possibilities and combinations with this bundle. I don’t have a rule, but more often than not I succumb to the siren call of a beautiful yarn, trusting the pattern(s) for which it was created will show up. It always seems to work out!
No Rules!! Cast on whenever it feels right. I would have to make some gorgeous summer tops with this beautiful yarn.
I’m a wait for the project to hit you in the feels before you start
I hoard my specialty yarns for extra special projects that require extra special love and care. I love giving gifts to my loved ones, so I’m very picky when it comes to projects in which I use my specialty yarn!
Beautiful colors! My yarn rule is buy for projects, but occasionally I break the rules if a yarn calls to me. I will cherish it and wait for the perfect project.
I’m definitely a “find the right project for the beautiful yarn” which means I have a monstrous yarn stash. I’m working on my forst wearable so I would definitely use this beautiful yarn to make some crochet shirts and sweaters
I often display special yarns for a little while so I can enjoy them while I search for the perfect project. I’m thinking about a knit tee and a luscious wrap for these beauties? Hmmmm….
I’ve become more intentional when picking up special skeins… I’ll make sure to pick up at least one complimenting skein to make it a set for a potential project. I have so many special ones from my early days of discovering the good stuff that are still waiting for the right project because I don’t have enough of the color or the right colors to go with it.
No rules for me ~ A little of both! I buy yarn when I travel to remember special places, so I don’t know how I wold use them. Other times I do have a special project in mind, so I buy accordingly.
NO RULES! Just simply line up all your beautiful beginner knitting patterns and start! Wait! Did I just create a rule!😅
Gosh rules??!!
Some yarn hides away waiting for that special project some leaps straight out of the package onto the hook 🤣
This amazing bundle inspires me to make lots of yoga socks and hand warmers for jewel coloured Yuke gifts 💜
My special/souvenir yarns are more often than not, knit up into one skein shawls/scarves.
As always, thanks for the opportunity to win such beautiful yarn! It is wonderful that there is so much in each colorway, making it hugely usable.
Based on my stash, I must be in the group that buys special yarn and keeps it forever. I love visiting my collection and picking a new fiber for a project that comes to mind. It is kind of instant gratification when I don’t have to get in the car, drive to a far off shop, and then make a selection based on the yarn the shop features. I already have a stash of yarns that I love and can choose in the comfort of my own home.
I don’t really have a special rule, I just get inspired by a certain yarn and try to find an appropriate pattern based on how much of it I have! These are so gorgeous, I would love to make a pretty spring dress with these colors 🌸
Hello, my name is Angela 👋
My yarn rule, is buy new yarn when I’m ready to cast on ☺️ I first like to look through the yarn I have, to see if the project fits yarn I already have. Then if I don’t find what I am looking for in my stash, it’s time for new yarn! And what a joy it is 🎉
I love to jump right in even as I find a more suitable pattern later. Still, it’s fun to keep those needles clicking.
My yarn rule is to save it for the perfect project! With this yarn, I would make a beautiful floral blanket.
Hello, my name is Angela 👋
My yarn rule is, buy when I really need new yarn. First I will check my stash and see if anything I already have works for my new project. If I don’t find anything, it’s time for some new yarn so I’m ready to cast on. 🎉☺️
Most of the time I go looking for yarn for a project, but every now an me then I find a pretty yarn that I’ll eventually find a project for
I’m not sure if it’s a rule, but if a yarn “speaks” to me (color, feel, name of the color or it sparks a memory of someone or somewhere) I get it. I got Dragonlore because I thought the name was awesome, the colors fantastic and then made a scarf for a friend all of that fit. She loved it and I loved knitting it.
No rules, only vibes!
I’ve really been itching for knitting a summer sweater lately, and those purples might just be my absolute favorite color in the world!
Sometimes I use it right away and others I just enjoy the beauty of it and the potential on what I will be making with it!
I would find the perfect project, and then start right away! I’m thinking a pretty summer top first. ❤️
I let the yarn decide. This lovely collection wants to be turned into lacy summer tops
I try to make sure I already have a pattern picked out when I get special yarn, so I can start my project right away, but sometimes I acquire some and spend time searching for the perfect project.
If I won’t the giveaway I’d make some baby gifts with the pretty spring colors for people we know that are having babies this spring!
I used to be one of those people who saved “special yarn” for “something special”. Recently I became somewhat disabled, and finally woke up to the reality that every day is “something special”. Using my special yarns has become such a joy for me, a way to celebrate every day 🙂
Definitely wait for the right project. I’m not sure what I’d use them for! Maybe some shawls, wraps?
No rules for me. Sometimes I start right away sometimes the yarn waits for its calling. But I can already see so many things to make!
Usually I purchase for a project, but sometimes I just fall in love with a color or texture and just have to have it. I’ll save it for when the inspiration hits me on what to make. These beautiful spring colors have so much potential. I have multiple friends having babies so gifts to welcome them into the world.
If I’m crocheting, I search for patterns and start right away. I’m still new at knitting, so I hand the yarn to my “knitting guru” and as her to find a pattern
“Rules are made to be broken,” lives strong in this body. Like it, buy it, don’t deny it. I’ll find its project later, when it ‘speaks’ to me. Usually a shawl or scarf, but oddly, recently the skein said ‘hat’, so I had to figure out how to make hats and had my first go with dpn’s
Rules are great but they get tossed out the window if I’m wanting to treat myself with something special. Special yarns do get put on hold so that I can appreciate and adore them for longer, but if that mood kicks in, I need to work it up asap. Wow, this collection you put together puts me in the mood for a luscious special blanket, just for me! and who knows which other projects, in order to enjoy the richness.
There’s a time for everything. A time to shop with a purpose and a time to buy pretty squishy yarn simply because it needs to live in your house.
I wait for the perfect pattern for really special yarn. I want something that really stands out, that shows the yarn’s true beauty.
I usually wait for the perfect project! Love these colors!
I always have a project in mind because that’s how I justify getting that special yarn. I don’t need any more “one skein wonders “ just because they were beautiful!
My rule for special yarn is to look immediately for the perfect project. I wish I could win this giveaway to make myself pretty clothes. There’s a pattern from Expression Fiber Arts that I would love to do: Babylonica 😍
I have projects just waiting for yarn! If I have a WIP, I wait. If not, I’m diving in right away!
Because I live in a rural area that has no LYS nearby, I purchase yarn that I particularly like and think would be nice for the type of patterns that I knit. I suppose that makes me a hoarder. I do have an unusually large stash and have finally hit the place where I make very few purchases now. It is such a joy to find that perfect pattern and know that the perfect yarn is right here in my stash. I knit a pattern (or two) a month so I am sure this month’s yarn give away would be put to very good use.
Right now we’re just trying to use up acrylic yarns to make easy for fresh nice yarns. Is that a special rule?
Use the good stuff now, you don’t know if later will come.
My special yarn rule is that I wait for the right project. But also that special yarn stays in my front room where I can see it! Never in the closet where most of my stash lives.
No rules, when it’s pretty yarn like this. A big cosy blanket or shawl would be awesome in this colors.
I am a COLLECTOR , lol , I just wait for the perfect project
😉
What gorgeous skeins just saturated with color. I am thinking these would work up into a lovely afghan since the colors go so well together.
This is a tough one! Sometimes I just have to wait for the perfect project before I cast on. Other times, I have something in mind as soon as I get it.
OK, I admit it, I’m a yarn hoarder! I will buy yarn just because it is beautiful and then start looking for a pattern that calls to that yarn. And I have so many patterns just waiting for the right yarn to appear! One of the joys of retirement is having more time to crochet – currently I am working on the Malhar top and the Marley Lace top. I’m so glad I discovered Expression Fiber Arts! So much gorgeous yarn!
I usually wait until I can find the perfect pattern for that yarn. Sometimes I cast on immediately.
It depends. Sometimes I buy yarn specifically for a project. Other times I get yarn because I can’t resist the colors and look for the right pattern for it. Either way I enjoy going through my collection and enjoying all the beauty and possibilities in each skein.
When I first started knitting, any time I got a new yarn that was extra pretty or special in some way, I would immediately start making something random just so I could see the pretty yarn worked up in a project. But now I’m trying to be more intentional with my knitting,by only making something that I would love and wear or that a family member would love as a gift. It’s not always easy to be intentional with my knitting like that, because I can be very impatient especially if I can’t find the right project and I just really want to knit something. Im going to keep trying and every day I’ll get a little more better at intentional knitting.
I usually buy yarn that speaks to me, even before I have a pattern in mind. When I find the perfect pattern, I dig the yarn out of my stash. Maybe that’s why I am always scrambling to find another skein when halfway through the knit, I realize I don’t have enough to finish the project 😅
Quite often I see a pattern that I like and sort through my yarns for the right one to use. With other yarn I wait until the right time comes along for choosing a certain yarn. That is why having a yarn stash is so exciting. Always prepared for the unexpected.
I usually buy yarn with a specific project in mind. I would love to be able to buy yarn to build up stock to have on hand, but I cannot afford it right now. I just recently started making wearable items. Your yarn is so beautiful.
For me, special yarns need just the right project, whether knit or crochet. There’s something about looking at a beautiful skein of yarn and imagining all the possibilities ❤️
Sometimes I have a project in mind. Sometimes I just love the yarn! These skeins remind me of a garden so I’m thinking something crocheted with patchwork squares
I try not to buy yarn unless I have a specific project in mind. But some yarn is too wonderful to resist, and then I find the perfect project for it. That’s probably what would happen here
Such beautiful yarn! I would knit shawls for myself with some of it but would also share with members of the crochet group I lead at my college
My special yarn rule is I have to have the perfect project before I start. But I can’t do 1 project at a time, so 3 projects at any given time.
With these beautiful colors I would make some cover ups. I live near a lake and near the TN river, so swimsuits and marina all around.
My rule is” the perfect project for this yarn will strike me someday.” In the meantime, I curated a collection of soft, squishy, heavenly skeins that I can admire and run my hands over at anytime I need a tactile fix. I would make oodles of spring sweaters with all that yummy goodness that you generously are offering. Happy Easter, and Happy Spring.
Such beautiful yarn. No yarn rules for me. I would knit shawls with some of those spring colors. I am learning lace knitting techniques right now and would use some yarn for lace work. But I would also share some of the yarn with members of the crochet group I lead at my college
My rule is have a pattern that I want to make and buy the yarn for it. If it’s an impulse purchase then it sits until I find the right pattern for it. I had yarn wait for 15 years before I made something with it lol
My yarn rule has to do with my space. My husband and I share a room in our house. His half is our office, my half is my craft space. I quilt, knit, crochet, and embroidery. I’ve got very creative storage space, mostly of repurposed furniture. My cutting table is an old kitchen table on bed risers, under is storage totes for supplies. My ironing board is a 30”x60”x1” board covered with batting and fabric on a tall rolling storage cart for more storage. Then I repurposed an old closet storage unit of wire basket drawers. One side holds my quilt fabric, the other my yarn. My rule is that this is my space and I can’t overflow my space; I can’t buy more unless I have room in my space. It keeps my space neat and motivates me to finish projects.
No rule! Sometimes I knit a project, then frog to use the yarn for something else.
I would use the yarn to knit a brioche cardigan.
Thank you for the opportunity.
I should create a rule but right now I don’t have one. I generally purchase beautiful, special skeins waiting for the perfect pattern. My rule should be find a pattern then get the special yarn.! With this month’s give away I don’t think I would have any problem finding the perfect patterns for all that gorgeous and special yarn 🧶❤️
I look for just the right pattern. I’d have to have my hands on the yarn to figure out what I want to make from it.
I wait for the right project to come along. And I love having a great supply of beautiful yarn to choose from.
I often buy yarn for a specific project but don’t cast on until I’ve finished my current WIP, so sometimes that specific project turns into something else by the time I actually use the yarn!
I like buying yarn when I’m on vacation, but without a project, it ends up sitting in a drawer. I’m so afraid of making “the wrong thing” with my special yarn that I end up just saving the yarn!
Typically I like having a pattern with my yarn. My cupboards have beautiful projects just waiting to be cast on!
Admire the squish for a while and then cast on 🤪
My only rule is no rules. If i start with a pattern, I often end up changing my mind and frogging what I’ve started. The yarn decides what it wants to be….whether it’s a gem for my hoard of delightful, probably never to be used but admired and loved, or something to wear. This amazing looking yarn may be both…some for a luscious cardigan and socks, some to love as it is.
I see so much potential in all the colors and bases; I can never make an affirmative choice…so I use sales offers to buy my yarn. I have a threshold for purchases and then let the universe guide me to something new–different colors, different base–and then I see what happens regarding patterns or freehand. It’s a game. Sometimes that means I have come back later to supplement as the project develops–which, if the yarn is sold out, requires more creative fun in terms of changing vision and finding complementary materials. I know this is risky, but the method has produced some spectacular surprises.
I wait for the yarn to tell me what it wants to be and then make that!
Your yarns are so beautiful! Any project made with these will also be beautiful!
It depends on the yarn for sure! Some yarn is so pretty I look for the perfect project to use it for. Other yarn I feel is more versatile and I use it in multiple smaller projects.
I don’t have any rules. I sometimes wait for the perfect project and other times cast on right away.
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven
I try to buy yarn only when I have a project in mind. That said, sometimes the yarn just speaks to me and I have to have it!
I let the yarn speak to me. All the yarn, not just the special ones. Sometimes, I try to force it to be something it’s not meant to be and it’s a struggle to work on that project. Thank you for this opportunity!
Exactly no rules who can put rules on beauty 😊
I don’t have a rule per se. I I’m trying to be more conscious about the fiber content, quality, and quantity of yarn I buy. I know that 1 or 2 balls won’t be enough for most crochet projects. I also want to use more natural fibers and fewer synthetic, though I do love me a good blend.
Rules? I’m a crochet anarchist. I’m trying to learn to force myself to sew those ends in. Not sure why I procrastinate it too much.
The special yarn rule…has no rule. Some items remain in glorious limbo, and others are purchased and immediately incorporated into a perfect pattern. Only my frenzied brain knows!
My rule of thumb, special yarns call for a well thought out project!
I suppose I don’t have any rules. I have some yarns for specific projects and other yarns that I’ve bought just because. These yarns that you are offering are beautiful and I would very much love to give them a try.
There is no rule. I buy skeins for specific projects or for instant love with its colours.
Rules? Who needs rules?
If I won this month, the first thing I’d do is roll around in all that soft, yarn, goodness. I’d find a fun pattern and knit it all up in a sumptuous blanket or shlanket so I could enjoy all that lovely yarn.
I have a pattern stash and a yarn stash, sometimes I buy yarn for a specific pattern and sometimes I go through my stash and see what I can make with what I have. There are never any hard and fast rules, only beautiful creations.
I’ve bought too many single skeins of yarn that the languish waiting for a pattern to use. My current rule is to wait for a pattern that speaks to me and then by yarn to go with it.
I don’t really have any rules. I tend to buy yarn because I like it without a specific project in mind. The first thing I would do if I won this gorgeous yarn is to make a spring/summery shawl.
Hey Chandi, my yarn rule is to wait for and select the perfect project. I have become more selective in what I am casting on because I want it to be something I want to to wear and cherish in years to come. These colors are so bright and happy looking. I could see many beautiful Spring and Summer garments made from the. Have a wonderful blessed season. Happy Easter/Resurrection Day 💐🫶🏽
I have no rules about yarn buying – usually I am just buying something that I love the colors in and figuring out that it would make a good “hat”, “shawl:”, “sweater” and buy the usual amount needed for the type finished product with no specific pattern. I know that I either have a pattern somewhere in my saved collection or that something will show up. Sometimes I need to make gift for a specific baby , child or relative and will get the appropriate pattern and yarn.
My rule for luxury yarn is to wait for the perfect project. EFA yarn is too scrumptious to be wasted.
Depends on if I put the cart before the horse! If it is extra special yarn I purchased without a pattern in mind, I do wait to find the right pattern. I’ve got enough stash now I try not to make yarn purchases without a pattern in mind, but sometimes there is that special yarn’s siren song I just can’t resist!
I would definitely find a special project the these specials yarns. No jumping into something right away. I might even share a few with special knitting/crochet friends!
I don’t have any rules for “special yarn”. It gets used when I find a project for it.
I tend to stash a special yarn until I decide on a project.
Sometimes I get yarn for a specific project. Sometimes I have to have the yarn and then wait for it to tell me what it wants to be! There are some yarns in this months giveaway that would look wonderful in a new pattern for a top that I just saw in the last few days.
No set rules other than I try not to have more than 3 WIPs at the same time. If the pattern is right for the yarn, then it’s fair game. Sometimes I buy yarn with a specific pattern in mind but other times, the yarn sits until one comes along.
The 1st rule is there are no rules! ;p
No hard rules, but most of my “special” yarn is normally for things for myself due to the care needed for them when they are complete. These bright colors would be great for a spring shawl or even a sweater.
No hard and fast rules for me. I crochet for fun. Sometimes the yarn leads the way, others it’s the pattern that must be started as soon as possible. 😊
“Special yarn” gets admired and squished by my hands for a short time, then I will work it up after I find the right pattern for it. If I had this month’s yarn haul, I’d definitely have it displayed where I can admire and enjoy the colors while searching for the perfect patterns to showcase their loveliness!
WOW what gorgeous yarnny goodness!! I would spend a year making heirloom pieces for lovedones to cherish in my memory. Thank you for the opportunity to win and experience such quality and beautiful yarn.
When it comes to my special yarn, I save the yarn until I have the right project for it! Sometimes I know ahead of time, but often I hold onto them until I have the right project in mind
Hi Chandi: I usually pick a project first and then choose the yarn that best suits that particular project.
No rules. Project first or Yarn first it doesn’t matter to me
I would use this lovely yarn to make all the gorgeous shawl patterns I have collected from your website. Then donate them to women who are battling cancer as I am a 20 year survivor myself.
My special rule is that I let the yarn tell me what it would like to be that sometimes means I cast on immediately and other times I wait until a later date. This month’s collection would make beautiful shawls. Thank you for the opportunity to win.
It’s a mix! The fingering weight yarn never lasts long since my favorite things to make are socks! But most of the time the other skeins must bide their time in my stash until the right pattern comes along and I break out my bigger needles 😁
Usually let the yarn tell me what it wants to be. Tried to make a top out of a yarn I just loved; and it fought me every step. Yes I did take it apart; it wanted to be a cardigan style sweater.
These are the perfect Spring and Summer colors. I would make shawls to donate to the 501(c)3 I am a member of. They cannot send “good” yarn like this to assisted living patients but we can use as a raffle item. The proceeds are then used to purchase acrylic yarn to make blankets, shawls, etc. as well as fabric.
Yarn rule – the only rule I have now is that I have to love the yarn. I have bought and still have yarn waiting for the perfect project. However, currently I only buy yarn for a specific project, but that’s because I’m under strict orders to reduce my stash.
Help me! I need new inspiration, and this collection is exactly what I need.
No rules here! I treasure each skein and always seek just the perfect project to showcase it.
No rules. Everything in its own time.
No rules, but I usually buy special yarn for specific projects. I have some skeins I bought from EFA that once I saw I couldn’t resist, but the patterns were beyond my skill level. As I have been becoming a more confident and adventurous fiber artist, I’ve been able to use some of these set aside skeins. It’s really exciting for me.
I do a lot of thinking, mind changing, and swatching. I have to be sure before I begin. I would make everything these yarns want to be.
First, fondle. Second, admire and exclaim. Third, start developing thoughts of types of projects. Then, see what happens! Usually I will have one idea in mind when suddenly something else just “clicks” and pattern and special yarns fall into place. These colors are gorgeous and the possibilities are endless!
The yarn tells me what it wants to be. Sometime it takes awhile..often I put yarn out where I can see it, in case inspiration hits while i am working on something else! I very seldom buy yarn with a project already picked out. Which, I admit, sometimes leads to having not quite enough yarn!
No specific rules, per se. I typically pick a pattern first, then search for the perfect yarn. Winning this would set me on the hunt for the perfect patterns to showcase such gorgeous yarn!
I usually buy yarn with a project in mind, but I will usually cast on straight away so I can enjoy the gorgeous yarns!
Oh the plans for something this beautiful!! Quickly finish WIPs and then make myself comfortable and cast on!! So many items to be made – shawls, shrugs, a light summer cover up…the list!!
I typically use my special yarn for gifts for other people. I love making something special with something special for someone special.
No rules….just whatever makes my chest swell, my heart thump, puts a smile on my face and makes me feel like a kid again when I see it.
Your yarns are so special. Beautiful colors and wonderful fibers. I don’t have rules but I tend to fall in love with the colors and texture and then look for a special project to highlight that yarn.
My rule is, unless it’s a single skein, I don’t buy it unless I know exactly what I’m going to make with it. And STILL somehow I end up with more yarn than I can corral…
Actually love to swatch with new yarn to see how it looks and feels and this will help decide what to knit with this yarn – so love these colors for spring and summer
I love to search books, magazines and of course your website for the perfect pattern(s) for delicate, wearable projects. I hoard my yarn until I find the perfect match!
I crochet and knit, therefore I usually have two projects going at once. No hard rules. Maybe a few little ones like finishing a project before starting another. I always wait for the perfect project which usually does not take long when looking at your beautiful yarn and many pattern ideas. For the giveaway? I would probably make a blanket. Thinking of making heirlooms for my three children. I do have your yarn in mind.
I Love most yarn, that’s why I get my yarn first then I think about the project. Don’t get me wrong., there are sometimes when I see or think about the project and get specific yarn for it, but most of the time yarn comes first.
Rules??? There are no rules when it comes to yarn! Some is acquired for a specific pattern and some is “just because”. One can never have too much yarn. I see endless possibilities with this collection.
I try to have a pattern in mind when I buy yarn. I print it out and put it with the yarn. Now to catch up to my many to be completed projects!!!
I’m a stasher in both my hobbies. I buy yarn and fabric because it’s beautiful and it says, “buy me”. Unfortunately it doesn’t always tell me what to make at the time that I buy it. So it sits in my stash until a pattern shows up that is perfect…of course I’m also a pattern junkie so I can sit with my stash and go through the patterns that I already have. At that point I put the pattern with the yarn (fabric) until I’m ready to work with it. I’m old enough that I don’t want to have too many UFO’s so I’m working on those first. But every so often a yarn just MAKES ME use it right now, and it cuts into the line and I get to play with the newbie instead of the UFO. PS: I’m actually down to 5 UFO’s combined and do work on all of them at least once a week. But after having the UFO number as high at 44 I decided I am never going back to that number!
Oh Chandi, you have really out done yourself with this give away. All the yarns are beautiful and want to be made into scrumptious projects awaiting eager hands and special projects to delight. Thank you !!!
There are no rules and no knitting police. If I were to win this yarn I see a lot of tops in my future.
I don’t really have a “special yarn” rule. I usually have plans for yarn when I buy it – but then I get distracted by other projects! I would make summer tops and shawls with this yarn
Unless I buy the pattern at the same time as the scrumptious yarn – which is rare, I buy the special skeins and let them “sit” and ruminate until the perfect project presents itself for them. If I won this month, I would share some of the yarn with my best knitting friend. Then we could both knit up a beautiful piece of clothing that would honour the yarn.
My special yarn rule for casting on right away is when the yarn reminds me of the place where I bought it. For instance, I got some skeins of yarn when I was on the island of Inis Mor in Ireland; I cast on as soon as I got home and finished hats and mittens for my two daughters. I still have a few skeins to turn into something for me. I remember Inis Mor every time I hold the yarn in my hands and what a special place it is.
My “special rule” is take two (or three) yarns that would work together, cast on, wait, then go for it. Mostly going for it with what yarn I got on hand.
Hi Chandi! I wait for the perfect project to cast on, I find usually the yarn and project kind of come together. Like the wand chooses the wizard 🧡
I guess I also have no rules! I have bags of yarn with pattern included awaiting my attention, I also have bins of gorgeous yarn that I ‘just had to buy’ because it is so beautiful…. I love just looking at the beautiful yarn and caressing it! To me they are truly works of art!!!
No rule but with this yarn I can make several special items and maybe get to make something for myself , seems like i always am making for someone else. With this yarn of colors, I would like spring /summer nights sweather to start.
I usually purchase with a project in mind. The only rule I have is that if I am not feeling the project that I will scrap it and start a different one. I want to enjoy everything I work on.
My favorite colors! Happy Easter! Knit every day keeps the Doctor away.
No rules for me, like many others. I would let the yarn speak to me and go through my collection of patterns to figure out what to knit.
Rules? 🤔 can’t think of any! 😂 so many beautiful colors that I would drool over for awhile and then maybe a blanket so I’d drool some more!
I wait for the Perfect project!
I’m a perfect project person. It does mean I have to sometimes force myself to use my treasures because nothing feels perfect at that moment and I always love the results. So both but it’s a stretch to use randomly.
I like to know what I am going to make with my special yarn. As long as I have a project I will cast on right away!
There are no rules: I choose whatever strikes my fancy, usually from my precious stash – knitting is for me to have fun and be inspired.
I usually have 3-4 projects going at once, always a sock or two, but I try to finish one project before I cast on a new one. The yarns in this giveaway look like they would make some great summer tees.
I always match yarn with a project. If I find yarn I have to have, I save it until I find the perfect project!!!
I have to wait until I’ve got the perfect pattern! But I can frog and try a new pattern as many times as necessary to get to the “perfect” pattern. I’d use the skeins from this giveaway in a colorwork sweater for sure.
I don’t have a hard and fast rule – I try to pick a project beforehand so I know what quantity to get, but sometimes I’ll buy a single skein of something nice and figure out what to use it for after!
I try to wait until I have a specific project before buying yarn…but that rule goes out the window as soon as I step foot into a yarn store! This yarn screams spring and would make a gorgeous shawl/wrap for my friends who is fighting cancer-she can never get warm enough during her treatments.
I live on the edge. Sometimes I have a project for the yarn sometimes I don’t. I prefer having a pattern first but oh well if I don’t. With this wonderful collection, I see socks, shawls, maybe t-shirt, maybe light weight sweater. It could be anything. It a beautiful collection.
I’d be so giddy to hold this beautiful yarn I am not sure what it would end up being but I know the final result would be stunning with this yarn.
I always wait for the perfect project; yarn is precious to me! <3 :o)
I would probably make a Tee and listen to the other yarns tell me what they want to be.
I love to look at it and squish it for a while until I find the right project. But sometimes if I buy for a particular project I cast on right away.
I also agree with Susan, no rules! Sometimes I’ll buy yarn with a particular project in mind, sometimes the yarn is so beautiful I’ll buy it and then wait to find the perfect project.
My only rule is that I must have the perfect pattern for it! If I already have the pattern, I start the project. If I don’t have a patter that is a good fit, I wait until the pattern comes along.
Side note, I absolutely love the assortment this month, it’s perfect for spring!
No rules! I’m always knitting and inevitably always end up giving my knits away as gifts. 😍 There are so many scrumptious yarns to make many, many gifts. But this time I would have to try to keep the teal for myself. Maybe I would be successful, just maybe for once.😅
I’m a collector. I buy what I love, pair it with a project, and put it in my queue, reordering the queue as needed. 😉 Then I don’t use it until it comes to the top. It’s rare for me to stop what I’m working on and immediately start something else. I’m a monogamous crafter. Haha
I no longer have yarn rules because I always break them😂 I’ll let the yarn tell me what i should make.
My new rule is learn at least one new stitch each month, I don’t always knit with my yarn immediately.. What I would do with the yarn is what I’ve always done when I knit, make something that someone else can enjoy and give it away. …hats, socks, blankets, mittens, shawls, There are always people that can use a hat or mittens in the winter, pregnancy centers that can use baby blankets, lapghans for nursing homes and on and on..
I love special yarn for a special project. I let the yarn influence that special project.
My only rule is that if I buy the yarn, I have to use the yarn. It doesn’t have to be immediately, but at some point it needs to be made into something and not just linger in my stash.
Oooo, what a lovely yarn stash in this most-generous giveaway! At times, I have to have the perfect pattern, and then go shopping in my yarnscape, Sometimes I know what I want to do with a purchase of certain yarns. Other times, I sit & look at my yarnscape and dream of what they are wanting to be. Sometimes the inspiration just hits me when I see a pattern & I know just what yarn I am going to grab for that one! As you can see, I have no hard and fast rules, except: I must eventually use up that yarn. It must get used…..even if just for beautifying the scenery in my yarnscape! That, in itself, is a pleasure….simply gazing at the beautiful colors and fibers. Shopping for yarn, & yarny things, is another pleasure. For example, I have over $12,000 in my Expression Fiber Arts cart and I cannot delete a one of them! Wish I were rich, because I would submit that order in a hot minute! Thank you for being such an enabler for my addiction. I blame you, Chandi, for staring my addiction, from the first time I saw you on youtube, making that circular wool roving rug you slid around the room on. That started it all! I eventually found the spare $$ to buy 10 lbs. of raw ultrafine merino wool from Australia and made my first arm knit blanket. And I was off to the races in the addiction. Thanks a whole lot, Miss Chandi! 😉
I have some special yarns that are waiting until I learn how to knit, because I have knit projects in mind for them. I only crochet right now!
I would love to make a sweater, a cardigan ans socks for sure.
I usually wait for the perfect project.
I don’t think I have a “yarn rule”, but I try not to buy yarn without a project in mind for it – I don’t always stick to it, so it’s not really a rule. If I won all this gorgeous yarn I would first make at least one sweater – for years I made accessories or sweaters that never fit right. Since I retired a year and a half ago, I have attended several online summits which have greatly increased my confidence in garment knitting so now I want to make more sweaters that I will actually weare
Color is what speaks to me. I usually buy enough to make a least a shawl and if there any left, save it for a tonal or fade project (socks?) later on. I love your pearlescent fingering yarn. Sometimes I look for yarn for a specific project, but usually looking for the project to fit the yarn.
I don’t have a hard and fast rule, but rather a guideline I try to follow after a history of buying beautiful yarn at yarn festivals a without a plan to use them, then being frustrated like the gal in the book Three Skeins of Caledonia Blue that I didn’t have enough, or rarely too much. My guideline is that I have a pattern in mind, (or several) and then select yarn that works with the pattern in an appropriate amount. I then put the pattern and the yarn together in a project bag. That way, when I’m ready to make the project, everything is together except the needles or hooks, and I’m not wasting time trying to find a way to use yarn.
I love your yarns and If I won this lovely giveaway… I would immediately begin making baby blankets for our local shelter and pregnancy help center.
I am grateful for you and your emails. Keep up the good work!
I want to think I’d wait for just the right project, but I find that I keep saving and looking for something else (procrastination complex compounded by perfection). I do keep special yarns for special projects.
No strict rule but I generally buy based on the colorway and wait for the project.
Sometimes I pet the yarn for awhile, but often I have a pattern in mind and cast on right away!
Thanks so much for the giveaway…it makes my head spin to think of winning!🥰
first rule: for special yarn: hug them just like you are doing!!!
second rule for these collection: kit a floral shawl or blanket, like your pattern Message!
If something doesn’t pop into my head immediately when I have “special” yarn I try to find a pattern I like for it pretty soon. Sometimes I end up a while before using it that way though. I’m trying to do less of that because I need to use the yarn that I buy rather than let it sit around.
My rule: I have to have a project in mind in order to buy. I don’t buy it just because it’s pretty.
Rules are meant to be broken! Haha. Seriously, I don’t really have set rules as far as yarn goes. I’ve bought yarn because it was pretty or soft or interesting. But I try to be reasonable with my budget and try to think about projects I want to make. But I allow myself to be flexible and get things that bring me joy. As long as I am able to keep things organized and not overwhelming, I see no reason to be too strict with myself.
I suppose I wait for the perfect project, though I only have one bundle of 3 skeins I would call “special.” I usually get the yarn before I match it to a project, so it waits until it fits a project I want to make. Given that sometimes I dislike the final product, I do want to make sure I would like the project for this special yarn. I would not categorize yarn I won from a giveaway as special, though I would definitely appreciate it as beautiful and enjoyable.
My only real rule is that special yarn is stored in its own special bind, away from big box store yarns. But only cast on right away if I know what it will be used for. Most waits for the perfect project.
I buy yarn because I’ve found a good deal, then squish it and mull over it until the right project presents itself 😄
Rules? I do whatever strikes me in the moment
I like to use it as soon as possible because there’s always another new yarn that comes up that might shove the special yarn to the stash, where it just might disappear…!
I always have projects and requests to make things so I guess I would just jump right into these beauties. 🥰
Some yarn I have special projects and set them aside, others I buy just because it’s pretty and search for the perfect pattern. Right now I am experimenting with creating tank tops and dresses for summer. With these skeins I would honestly create everything I have in my head from socks, to shawls, to clothes. The possibilities are endless and I can only hope to win someday.
Oh my goodness – those joyful, luscious skeins would be *so* squooshed and nuzzled and…anyways, crafting rules are for the unimaginative. Use the yarn in a way to make your heart sing and bring delight to the your craft.
For me, special yarn needs a special project. Part of the fun is deciding what’s the best match.
I’ve not had a skein set like this before but so have several projects that I’d like to cast on. One of them will be perfect sure 😊
Absolutely no yarn rules here
There are no rules in yarn! If I love it, I get it and figure out what to do with it later. I just love looking at all the beautiful colors in my stash. It’s like a bag full of multicolored gum drops!
I don’t have a strict yarn rule!! I just have to force myself to finish my projects before starting the next one. Sometimes it works & sometimes I end up with UFO’s.
I only get fancy yarn when I have the perfect project so I get started right away! I don’t actually have a lot of money for fancy yarn so I have to have the project in mind before committing to yarn.
My “special yarn” rule…. make something beautiful with love in every stitch, but as that’s what I do with ALL my yarn, maybe it’s not really a rule ???
I wait till a pattern jumps out and screams “Knit Me.” Even if I don’t know who it’s for, me or someone else, if I have to knit it, I knit it!!!
I wait for the perfect project for special yarn.
I’d love to make that beautiful Bridges of Venice shawl and some socks.
I have never tried hand
dyed yarn. I would definitely cast on, or chain right away.
No rules for me either! Some yarn I buy with a specific pattern in mind, but sometimes that has to wait until I’m done with other projects or just until I’m ready to use it. Some yarn just needs to be used right away for *reasons* lol, and some yarn is just bought because I know it’ll be easy to use in future when I want to make a gift for someone
I want to.start a new shawl for spring.
No rules for me! I wait for the yarn to “talk” to me and then tell me what pattern it wants to be.
Oh these skeins are gorgeous! To be honest the rule for “special” yarn is to make them into something that someone I know will use.
Unless I have a project in mind when I am buying yarn, it waits in my stash for the right time. I usually have too many projects in progress anyway.
My special yarn rule is wait for the pattern to cast on. I am trying to enforce the yarn rule of, plan for yarn, not just because you love it. That’s a harder rule.
My only rule is that I cannot buy yarn if I don’t have a project that calls for it and I can’t imagine at least two different projects that it would work well for. For example, if I see a skein that I like and think it would make a nice hat but I can’t see it being used as anything else and I don’t already need a hat for anything, then I can’t buy it.
I generally have a project in mind when I buy yarn and I put the pattern and yarn together while I make time to knit. Once in a while I find a yarn so gorgeous that I buy it without a project in mind, while I decide what I want to make, or maybe just to have it to look at and enjoy the visual of the skein. You’re yarns are always beautiful :).
I don’t have any rules regarding yarn for crocheting or knitting but I always seem to have something in mind to make for someone when buying yarns. I have often bought yarn because I am visiting somewhere or the yarn name catches my attention! Those colors are so beautiful and happy! I think I would love to make some shawls both crochet and knit. I have never made a shawl before.
Thank you for the chance to win some of your beautiful yarns!
Good luck everyone!
No need for rules when it comes to beautiful yarn!
My rule is that if a yarn speaks to you, it’s compulsory to buy it!!
I’m a fool for beautiful yarn. The colors are wonderful , bright and hopeful! Thankyou!
My rule can’t decide what project on the spot is it has to be at minimum the amount needed to be able to do a scarf with a crochet stitch yarn hog.
If I don’t have a project already in mind for a special yarn. I make sure it gets pride of place in my glass yarn display case until it gets used, that way I get to enjoy it with my eyes until the right project presents itself.
My yarn habit is — I see yarn that I adore, and I buy it, then hope I find a pattern that will show it off perfectly. I also have a collection of patterns waiting for the perfect yarn. I’m attracted to this giveaway because of the happy colors and the beautiful yarn base. I’ve loved everything I’ve ever gotten from Expression Fiber Arts (yarns, patterns), and I just know I’d love this, too!
I tend to acquire yarn, and hope I got enough, before thinking of what I’ll craft with it. And, oh yeah, I play yarn chicken!
I definitely save it for the perfect project! I would use this yarn to make a shawl for my best friend. She gets cold at work.
For me, special yarn deserves a special pattern and vise versa. Such beautiful yarn and such a generous giveaway. Thank you, Chandi!
After recovering from the shock of winning all that gorgeous yarn I would spend days looking for the perfect pattern. Love these colors!
Impulse is my usual game with yarn..I look..I hold..I squish..I then dream up a project to match the yarn and based on meterage.. I then make up the item…whether hat..slouchie..cowl…mitts…baby wear…and maybe knit or crochet as I’m also bistitual
It’s a bit like a dream to have a choice like you are offering…I will be in fantasy land for awhile…dreaming up projects…searching just the right pattern
..or maybe something I can deep dive into my memory bank 🙂
Rest assured Chandi…every item in your lovely stash will be worked up to good use xx
I like to use yarn in my stash that I am not particularly fond of for experimental project; yarn I love I save for the “perfect” pattern to show it off; the more I treasure a yaarn, the longer it is apt to take to pair it to that “perfect” pattern.
For me it also depends. Sometimes I start right away other times I wait for the perfect project to match the special yarn. Gorgeous spring colors this month! 🤩
I’m an anarchist when it comes to my yarn stash. there are no rules. Some of it was bought for specific patterns but once it arrived, I decided it wasn’t right. I have some yarns that are waiting for the perfect pattern and some patterns in my queue that are waiting for the perfect yarn. When they come together, it’s serendipity.
I have to have the right project for my yarn. If I don’t then I don’t enjoy the project and give up on it…..
I don’t like “rules” for anything. I wait for the yarn to speak to me about what it wants to be. Some of what you’ve shone would make a lovely blanket for TV watching!
No rules! Some yarn is just so yummy I have to have it and then find a pattern to use it. Sometimes I have a pattern that calls for a special yarn.
Rules, what rules???? I love looking at beautiful yarn even if I don’t have a particular project for it.
No rules here, just seeking inspiration and waiting for the right project to present itself. Got recently into hand dyed yarn and loving it. Love the colours in this bundle for a light blanket or throw.
I dont have any “yarn rules.” I do have patterns that need yarn.
Lorraine
I usually fall in love with yarn and then try to match it to a pattern in my voluminous queue. If nothing strikes my fancy, I’m happy to wait. Yarn has no expiration date!
Usually I match the project to the yarn!
My rule is to wait for the perfect project. What i am planning to do is to make shawls for all the females in my family.
My only rule is enjoy yourself! I’ve been on a blanket and shawl kick lately but I’d like to make a couple of sweaters for me and my mother. At 93 I’m so fortunate to have her around. She is also a knitter but finds it more difficult these days, although she does try. I’m sure there is a project out there we can work on together.
My rule is no more than three WIPs at a time. One with simple stitches I can zone out on while chatting or watching TV. Another that is a little more challenging, but I can still have a conversation over. Then a third for when I have a quiet stretch of time to really concentrate and focus.
Special yarn requires a well thought pattern. Sometimes I know right away and sometimes it waits for the perfect project. With the yarn this month I would have to make sweaters!
Omigosh, that beautiful yellow! Like so many others, I have no rules. Sometimes I start working with the yarn the day it crosses my threshold, and sometimes it remains where I stored it until the perfect project comes along. Usually my problem is not having enough of the same color to complete the project I want to make, but that certainly wouldn’t be a problem with this gorgeous collection.
These are beautiful colors, I would like to make spring/ summer night sweather for myself since I seem to make things for everyone else.
Rules? I just love hand dyed yarn!
No rules really. Some yarn I buy for a specific project. Other yarns are bought because they’re pretty and I won’t be able to get them again (specific to that location or similar). This months colors are so light and airy I’d want to do something similar in style like a shawl or a lacey top.
Always wait until I find the perfect project 🥰
No rules for me. If I find patterns I like I’ll make them or at least try to. Gosh with all these different yarns there’s so much that I could make. I usually like making tops, sweaters or cardigans, throws, wraps, bags, stuffed animals, and baby blankets. So it just depends on what the yarn would be like as to what I would actually make. As always, thanks so much for the sweepstakes. Good luck to everyone.
My group would create Prayer ‘ Shawls to give to people in need of support for life’s trials.
No rules! Some yarn screams “make me into a *blank*”. Other patterns say go get XX yarn.
I wait for the perfect project, but I’m struggling with this now! I have souvenir yarn that I got almost a year ago. I’ve tried three different projects and frogged them all. Nothing seems to fit the yarn well enough. May have to change up my rules!
P.S. My birthday is early May, so this would be an amazing present 🙂
Some yarn must be used to make something right away. Other yarn is waiting for just the right project. The funniest is that some yarn is bought with a project in mind but the project has not yet made it to the top of the list of being worked on.
Usually I wait for a perfect project. I’m thinking I would make a cozy sweater!
Sometimes I’m so excited to use a yarn that I look for the perfect pattern. Sometimes a yarn is so special that it must wait for the perfect project.
I don’t have a lot of rules about knitting except to find joy in creating something special. Many of my projects are gifts for people I love and charity projects. In that case I’ll find a special yarn for that special person in my life. I collect yarns that I love whenever I see them. Sometimes I’ll choose a yarn for a specific project, but often I do the opposite and buy the yarn and then choose a pattern later. I appreciate all of the lovely patterns that are gifted and for sale on the Expression Fiber Arts website.
I think it’s an IYKYK type situation… doesn’t the perfect hue always show up when it’s supposed to? I see lots of socks in the future…
No firm rule- if buying yarn for a specific project, more likely to cast on right away. If buying beautiful yarn with no fixed idea, will definitely wait for the moment of inspiration and perfect match to the the yarn.
This month’s yarn speaks stripes and flowers to me. I can see a white sweater with striped ribbing at waist, neck, and cuffs, and big flowers on the body and sleeves. Possibly an oversized cardigan.
No particular rule. Sometimes I am in no rush at all to start as just love to squish the soft yarn and marvel at the beautiful colors. Would have to spend some time to decide what to knit if I was blessed enough to win these beauties. Perhaps sweaters.
I don’t have any hard and fast rules. If I see a design I love, I will look for the perfect yarn. If I see a yarn I love, I will look for the perfect design. These beautiful colors look perfect for sweaters and shawls. I’m in the mood for casting on something lacy.
Sometimes I knit right away and sometimes I just squish the yarn to make me smile 😊
My rule is usually comfort, soft fabrics. I will pick up yarn and have no idea what it wants to be. The right patterns come along. I will pick up specific colors for garments I am giving as gifts. Your Peach Sorbet top is my next project.
I don’t really have rules about saving special yarn. I have too many skeins of special yarn, and some really large binders full of patterns. The yarn and patterns are waiting for me to find time to put them together to create something beautiful. There are a couple of rules about giving my knitted creations away. My best friend and her family can tolerate sheep’s wool against their skin, like in scarves and sweaters, but I cannot, nor can my family. So the wool yarn is knitted for my friend, with the awareness that she is severely vision impaired, so she needs items she can care for herself. My family will not care for wool, so they get acrylic, cotton, and bamboo items, again with the awareness that for different reasons, my adult offspring may not care for knitted items as they should be. So that’s my rule: wool for friends, no wool for me and family.
I would wait for just the right pattern. I would look through all the patterns I have to find a lot of just the right patterns.
I have no rules! I sometimes find the pattern then look for the yarn, sometimes I see the yarn and then look for a pattern that would work
It definitely depends! Some get cast on right away, usually if I have the pattern picked out. Other yarns sleep in my stash for a bit until the creative inspiration hits!
If there are rules involved with me and yarn, it’s the yarn making the rules. Sometimes I buy yarn for a specific project, but with yarns like these, there are projects hiding in them, and I won’t know what they are until I get my hands and eyes on the skeins. : )
Rule? I don’t have one! Sometimes a special yarn is for a special project, sometimes I wait until the right project comes along. I’d definitely go for a spring shawl, and share some of this special yarn with a special friend.
There are no rules, I knit what makes my heart happy! 💕
So far, my only rule is to have two wips going at a time. I have a small stash, and a project in mind for most, so when one is done, the next is ready to go. 🙂
I’m looking forward to making some summer tops.
I don’t have any special rules. I would knit sweaters for everyone in the family.
I would wait for the perfect project, unless I bought it specifically for that project!
I guess I don’t really have yarn rules. Sometimes I buy yarn and immediately make something and sometimes it just sits waiting for the perfect project.
This yarn is very beautiful!
I have no rules, but yarn does tend to hang out in my stash until it tells me what it wants to be.
What luscious yarn. A cardigan comes to mind or a shawl—after a long embrace and snuggling the yarn.
I have two rules – one is to only buy sweater-amounts of yarn when I’m planning to knit a sweater (I don’t need to know the final pattern, but I need to be planning to start it immediately), and two is that single skeins for socks are always fine to buy, especially if I’m on vacation and just go into a random yarn store. 🙂
My rule is: get the yarn you need for your project or find the project you need for your yarn 🙂
If I have something in mind I would cast on immediately if I don’t I’ll wait the right inspiration.
Greetings from Italy
All depends. Some yarns and colors are perfect for projects I’ve wanted to tackle, and it’s a battle of self control to not grab a hook and start crocheting IMMEDIATELY! Some you look at and think ‘I don’t know what I’ll use this on, but you better believe I’ma using it!’
And then there’s the super frustrating impulse buy of a skein that’s soooo beautiful that you can’t walk away…but it’s a OOAK dye job, and not exactly huge yardage. So it sits in a sealed container, mocking me with its presently unusable gorgeousness. *cries!*
Soooo…yeah!
Kind a arrested here by your mocking skeins… Maybe they could still work up nicely in something like a wave pattern or in entrelac crochet?
No rule. I’m sure I need one or two. 😁
I have no rules. If the yarn is beautiful then I buy it!! Then when the right pattern comes along I shop my stash for the perfect combo.
I usually buy yarn when I like it (which happens often than I have a project in mind). so I have a huuuuge stash of beautiful yarn. After finishing a project I look at my stash and choose the next yarn, and after choosing the yarn I look for a project that suits it. April’s yarn from the giveaway will probably call for a shawl, or a wrap, for the cool spring evenings.
The yarn needs to tell me what it wants to be before I start working with it.
My rule. I love to plan projects. I match yarns to all the beautiful patterns I buy. I e been teaching others to knit and crochet so the craft is handed down. I also love giving many of my projects as gifts to people so that can smile!
No rules for me.
I usually wait for the perfect project for the yarn I have acquired. I would love to try making a sweater with this yarn!
Sometimes, when I get a new yarn without having already decided on a specific project, I already have an ideia of what kind of work I want to do. Sometimes it just sits there until I find something that fits. Tip: that’s how you end accumulating more yarn that you can work in a lifetime!
Love the colors of the giveaway this month! No rules regarding special yarns. If I already have a pattern in mind I will cast on immediately, if not then they become yarn decorations and inspiration until the perfect pattern comes along.
I wait for the right project
I always look for the special project before starting. I want to love what I make, not just make for makings sake. This month, I’m thinking something for summer evenings on the patio – maybe a light wrap or sweater.
I also have no rules. I prefer to wait and cast on projects. Once I get started, I don’t want to put them down. These colors are prefect for my granddaughters’ sweaters and dresses requests.
Hi! Excited for this! My rule is definitely that if I adore a yarn but I think it’s too variegated for a big sweater, I’ll make it into socks!
I have a whole bunch of patterns pinned so when I feel the yarn love, I just find something to do with it 😊 these colors would be great for clothes for the little ones so I’ll probably do that!
No rules. I usually buy yarn for a certain project, but sometimes just buy it because I like it, and keep it for a future project.
Stuff them away from yarn claiming cats! Especially when they might see a fluffy kitten in it… Where did the alpaca go?
But that’s probably not what you meant. They’re more or less approached in reverse to what’s rather intended to be stock pile for set purposes. There, I do look for, hopefully consistently available, yarns that are well suitable for certain purposes and then go try try try. With the occasional special yarn It’s getting explored in more gentle and cautious manners, gaining a feel about it and with which stitches it may bloom most. With more thought than the usual swatching away whole skeins… And then it simmers away whilst figuring out which kind of project will be most dear in this yarn. And where new stitches or constructions do need to be figured out, it’s done with a less rare frogggfriendly yarn. (Which stitching and project will do most right to this yarn? Rather than the other way around)
These featured yarn colours do happen to be summer favourites amongst the cheerful ones – which somehow seems to be very welcoming for the summer ahead… 🤔 – and they do seem to be waiting becoming summery cozy and cover ups somehow
Definately “no rules” which plays out in the fact that I have a stash of EFA yarns not yet assigned to a project. Sometimes it’s fun just to look at them and daydream about what they could become.
Do I have a rule about use or stash? Not usually. This collection would make amazing gift and wedding shawls!
*sighs dreamily at all the yarn* good lord, this month’s giveaway would be so perfect for me. Literally all of my favorite colors, and the light weights!! I have a ton of worsted weight yarn, but I’m craving to work with some more delicate stuff to make lacy shawls and drapy pullovers.
As for ‘special yarn’ rules, I’m definitely extra careful to make sure that I actually have enough for my project before casting on, and for right now, I don’t buy yarn at all unless I at least have a project in mind. That’s less of a ‘rule’ and more me being on a shoestring budget, though. I’m still definitely a ‘my eyes are hungrier than my mouth’ kind of yarn collector, though, so it’s probably a good thing for my poor storage shelves lol.
Doesn’t stop me from ogling all the pretty, pretty yarn that I have no concrete plans for anyway 😀 Knowing me, I’d come up with something real fast. My favorite part of knitting is the sensory heaven of beautiful colors and squishy fabric, so I take any excuse to have Good Yarn on my needles (which is probably why I have about… 8 unfinished projects going right now? Whoops)
My pattern collection is a testament of many dreams. Your yarns make the most exquisite shawls.
My ‘yarn rule’ is finding a project, then buying the yarn for it. Most times I follow it, and sometimes I see yarn I love so much I buy it anyway and hold it for the right project. But I have a friend that says knitting and yarn collection are 2 different hobbies. I think that is very true. These colors are so alive and wonderful I am sure I will find something to make and definitely share it with my knitting group!
I also have no rules – I like to wait until the perfect project comes along and the yarn tells me what it wants to be.
The yarn usually tells me what it wants to be or I have purchased it for the perfect project.
When I buy a special yarn I usually buy 2 skeins so I have enough for any project that demands to pair with it. I have a shelf where the special yarns live so I can find them easily. Sometimes I visit them, fondle them and dream of what they will become.
I’m a long-tme crocheter but have recently fallen in love knitting, with the help of some expert friends. I have long way to go and would absolutely love looking for and playing with patterns for this new yarn. I typically pick a pattern first and then find just the right yarn. With this, I’d do the opposite! I would love to try a shawl or beautiful scarf.
Usually a gift so yarn, so yarn has to be soft, right color.
Usually I have projects in mind just waiting for the right yarn to appear. The trouble would be deciding which of these gorgeous skeins match best with which project — and finding time to knit them all, along with all my WIPs
I typically buy yarn with a project in mind, but sometimes I get ahead of myself so I wait for the perfect project for my yarn 🙂
Definitely wait until there is the perfect project. EFA yarn is too scrumptious for just any willy nilly pattern. It would need to be something that speaks to me, like azorella or marine cardigans.
I try only to buy with a project in mind. I don’t always succeed, especially with Chandi’s yarn!
Sometimes I have a plan. Sometimes I find beautiful yarn I would love to make something with & have to find that right pattern that draws me in for a perfect blend. With your gorgeous yarn I’d make some summer clothing for my baby nieces 💙
I’m a hoarder!
When I get special yarn I wait until the perfect project. If it is a luxury yarn I make sure that the project is heirloom quality for blankets and shawls or sweaters and cardigans for myself or family .
Rules? I didn’t know there was an such thing as “Rules” where crochet is concerned!! If I won all this glorious yarn, I would have to squish it and feel it run through my fingers as soon as it told me what it wanted to become. Love all your yarns and everything you do. Thanks for this chance to win!!
I usually have a plan for any special skeins I buy. So unless something is a gift, I know what I want to do.
No rules, I let my kids help me pick projects and the yarns for them. They love to bury their little hands into the different yarns and just feel the vibes that speak to them!
NO rules here.
I’m split about 75% is project specific and the other 25% is “I’ve GOTTA have that!”
I sometimes have a special skein of yarn that I keep until I find the right project, but a lot of times I am so excited I just cast on! I would love to knit some very special projects for my family if I win the yarn giveaway!
all your yarns are special! i love just looking and touching each one!. thanks to you for everything you do and your team for all the work they do too! so, no rules for me too. i have lots of patterns of your in my wish list, maybe i can find the perfect pattern for each yarn! thanks
I’m an artist by education, and have been known to purchase yarn like paint…simply by the beautiful colors. I honestly don’t know what I would do with all that yarn! Probably share some, and then find a sweater pattern or a shawl or a blanket and challenge myself to make something that big…never have! lol
My EFA yarn rule is to use for something special FOR ME! I’ve used high end yarn for gifts for people only to find out the gave it to charity or have never even tried it on – even things they asked me to make for them. Not anymore – it’s all about me from now on. This month’s giveaway has all my favourite colurs in it so it won’t be hard to find a summer sweater, boating top, blanket etc. to use them up on. I can hear them screaming to be cast on from here (Canada)
I, typically, have a project in mind and then purchase the yarn needed. But I will buy yarns because they’re too pretty to pass up. Then I run into the problem where I’ve found the perfect project for that special yarn, only to realize that I don’t have enough yarn! The struggle is real!
For this huge prize, I would mix and match colors for a perfect project.
I usually buy special yarn with a plan in mind, though I don’t always get to it right away! I might look for shawl patterns for these skeins.
I buy the pretty pretty yarn and then wait till I find the perfect pattern for it.
I don’t know if I have a rule…but I usually buy yarn for specific projects. Whether they get started right away, now that’s a toooooootally different question 🤣
When I see yarn I “need”, I immediately have to find a project for it. Then I pack the yarn and pattern/project idea away for when I’m ready to work on it. I won’t tell you how long some of these “waiting to be something” project yarns have been waiting.
In an effort to not make yarn purchasing/hoarding into an additional hobby, my “rule” is to usually have a pattern in mind before I buy any new yarn – however, sometimes, I can’t help myself! This collection would be perfect for several of the patterns I’ve saved and purchased from the EFA website over the years 🙂
Only one time I had a single skein of special yarn. After several years, it became a chemo cap for a special person.
Definitely no rules! If I find a yarn that I love I’ll buy it and wait for the perfect pattern to come around. A very dangerous thing to do I suppose!…
My rule is that I find the perfect project then buy the yarn. I have a stash of yarn however I tend to hardy use it unless it’s perfect for the pattern.
No rules for me, I just love yarn. Then I’ll find a project for everything…
No rules for me, I just love knitting!!! Thousands of projects and tasks still to be done with that lovely yarn, wich is so hard to find in the city where I live.
I’m still a relative beginner and have recently learned the “rule” to make sure that I am buying yarn with a project in mind rather than just because I love it. In my initial enthusiasm I have a few different skeins that I bought because they were so pretty but have now realised that I don’t have enough of them to make the things I would like to make with them. My naive, inexperienced self didn’t realise how many skeins it took to make a shawl or a sweater! 🙂 Now I’ve learned to read and understand patterns better it helps a lot. With these beautiful skeins my eyes are wide with the thought that I would have enough to make some of the beautiful EFA patterns I’ve downloaded this year. There are so many “right” projects waiting for me to start…
Sometimes when I buy a new yarn, I cast on something on the right day. I have a magic calendar = I try to cast on something new every date, so that over the years I will gradually fill the entire calendar. I would cast on the Lavande Papillon scarf.
I don’t have any yarn rules. But I’ve found that yarn I’ve purchased years prior can suddenly be right for a new project.
I like to get yarn, a pattern, supplies and put them together in a project bag! Clear bags get me the most excited to see the yarns and patterns.
A lot of special skeins get many moments on my display shelf of things I just love and bring me joy! Some skeins have so much meaning that they lie in wait for a special project to combine them together in. (:
I do my best to remind myself that the special skeins deserve their time on my needles, and I know they’ll bring me so much joy to work with when I do!
I only have one rule: I have to enjoy the project I am working on. I have started a few which quickly became something else entirely due to color, difficulty of pattern, or sometimes just time of year or what’s going on in life! Thank you, Chandi, for your dedication and love for all of us!!
Oh it has to be the perfect project. But often times the Yarn just speaks to me and it creates itself.
Honestly, it depends on the yarn.
Sometimes that “special” hank is immediately made into something special and given to someone special so they can enjoy it too.
Other times I just want to hold it and love it, set it so it can be shown off.
Yet again, I might tuck it in a tote with a pattern as a “next project” when I finish a WIP….
I think I have about 15 totes now!! 😂😂
We don’t talk about WIPs. 😁
There are no rules for ‘special yarn’. Sometimes yarn has to percolate before the perfect project shows itself and sometimes the perfect project arrives before the special yarn does and cast on then happens immediately!
No rules when it comes to most yarns, but my EFA yarn is always used for the beautiful patterns EFA offers.
I wait for the perfect project for my “special skeins”. I’ve wanted to make a springtime floral blanket, so I would use many of these skeins to that end.
No rules for me. Sometimes I just like to look at the lovely colors and dream of what I might make
When I receive special yarn, I typically hold on to it until something speaks to me!!
I save it for just the right project! If I won the giveaway, I’d probably make shawls and lapghans for my new office suite mates – I recently relocated to a new office suite within my company, and they threw the sweetest “welcome to the suite” party to welcome me and my teammate. It was so nice and thoughtful, and made me (socially awkward) feel so welcome, especially considering they all work in different divisions from us. 💜 It was just really wonderful, and I’m so grateful to share my work life with them!
My tendency is to look at a yarn, pet it, squish it, over a period of several days to discover its personality and find out what it wants to be before selecting its particular pattern. Does it want to pair with one or more colors? Does it like to be by itself? The delicious yarnd in theis month’s give-away will each have their own destiny.
I don’t play by the rules even if they are my rules. Sometimes I get yarn for a specific project, other times I get yarn just because it’s so pretty.
No real rules, sometimes I see a yarn and have a project in mind for it already and other times I will hold yarn for years until the ‘right’ pattern presents itself.
Rule: Upon receiving any and all special skeins is to first pause. Taking a moment to fully appreciate the many prior stages from sheep, and the various processing phases before landing in my hand. Continuing its next step of creation is determined by sensory and intuition. These gorgeous skeins reflect an essence of New Begginnings for me, inspiring an immediate cast on for several (+) of Expression Fiber Arts stunning shawl patterns! There’s always a loving recipient to once again, continue its now new stage forward. Sharing the generosity! Thank you
Hmm, my special yearn rule is to only by it if I have a specific project for it – its a treat after all. With the lovely spring colours in this months bundle I’d be making some colourful light cardigans or t-shirts.
No more than two projects at a time!! And if possible only one till I finish it. But I will cast on a small one too. And I’m into shawls right now which are great here in FL with so much air conditioning. Also starting a prayer shawl ministry at my church.
The only rule is to enjoy the yarn, no matter when. All the time.
I really hope to be the lucky winner this month. I love those colours!
Such cheerful colors this month! I try to choose yarn for a specific pattern, through occasionally the yarn wants to be something different! Sometimes I’ll come across yarn that just speaks to me, then I have to wait for the perfect pattern for it.
I’m a no-rule:er if I love it, then I Will know when the time and project is right. Also got some” projects with yarn”.
I would use These skeins for a shawl I seen.
