Hello, my little chickadee! I have a cuddly, cozy, crochet hat to share with you today, so I hope you’ll keep reading to learn all about it!

Sona was originally designed by Kristina Smiley, but it has recently been refreshed for you by our amazing design team. When asked about the Sona hat, Kristina said, “Sona is a simple, cabled hat with a ribbed edging. I tapped into my Irish heritage for this pattern and chose the Irish word Sona for the name. Sona (SUN-a) means happy, lucky, fortunate, and may fortune smile. As I was creating this design, I often found myself smiling and thinking about how fortunate I am to be surrounded with happy and supportive people. The word Sona is included in a proverb that reflects the sense of fortune I have found. This proverb is roughly translated as “the lucky man waits for the lucky moment.” My lucky or fortunate moment is now, and I am enjoying being able to share that fortune through my designs.”

This Intermediate level pattern is ideal for those who feel comfortable crocheting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include working in the round to gauge and special stitches.

The updated version of our Sona hat was crocheted with our Limited Edition North DK yarn, which is a soft, gentle, flexible yarn that feels amazing on your skin and has a lovely bounce! North DK is a blend of 66% Extra Fine Merino Wool and 34% Pima Cotton with 264 yards (241 meters) per 3.5 oz/100 g skein.

Sona comes in two sizes: Medium, which measures 20–22” (51–56 cm) circumference, approx. 8” (20 cm) from crown to brim and Large, which measures 22–24” (56–61 cm) circumference, approx. 9” (23 cm) from crown to brim.

The updated sample shown here was made with color Warm Socks North DK and is shown in the Large size, which used approximately 153 yds (140 m). The original version of Sona (not shown here) was made with our Dewy DK yarn in color Solitude.

North DK is a Limited Edition yarn, so please order enough to complete your project because once it is gone, it’s gone for good!
