Hello, my bright light! I have a lovely river inspired shawl for you this week. I hope you’ll read on to learn more about it!
Seinesation was designed by Janica York Carter. When asked about her design, Janica said, “The Parisian Blues kit immediately brought to mind the scenic beauty of the Seine River. Imagine strolling across one of the many bridges in Paris with this shawl draped around you. Short rows create subtle shifts in a basic wave pattern, mimicking ripples in a river. This technique is much easier if you use stitch markers at each pattern repeat as directed. If you prefer, you can omit short rows altogether and simply repeat the six-row Set-Up section until you use up each color or have your desired number of rows. You can also customize the length; each pattern repeat is 18 stitches, with three stitches added to both ends to create the edging. Cast on in any multiple of 18 stitches plus six.”
Seinesation is shown here in our Luster Sport yarn. Luster Sport is a beautifully shimmering and soft, sport-weight yarn with a squish factor that is sure to please! 50% Superwash Merino Wool and 50% Lyocell, a plant fiber that provides the glow of silk without the price. Everyone who sees and feels this yarn base LOVES it! Ideal for virtually any type of garment or accessory, as well as blankets, baby items, and home decor. 395 yd/361 m per skein
This shawl can be made with four skeins of our Luster Sport yarn, and it is adjustable. However, gauge is important to the making of this item. Please take the time to make a gauge swatch to ensure that your gauge is the same as the designer’s. This pattern uses almost all of Colors A and D, so swatch with Color B or C.
The sample shawl was made with our Parisian Blue Hues Luster Sport kit. The sample used approximately 1,385 yds (1267 m) — Color A: 370 yds (339 m), Color B: 315 yds (288 m), Color C: 315 yds (288 m), Color D: 385 yds (352 m).
This Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate level pattern is for those knitters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Stitches include short rows with wrap and turn, p2tog decreases, yo increases, and slipped stitches.
We made a video showing how to knit a mini version of this shawl. Take a look!
This pattern includes written instructions only.

I’ve tried several times to input but it is systematically rejected. Trying last time : Oubangi river, designing the border between Central African Republic and DRC, is a large calme river that inspires peace and the feeling of immense power of the African nature. Unfortunately surrounded by conflict, it is very challenging to see it nowadays
