Hello, beautiful soul! This week, I have something really wonderful to share with you. Meet Amaya, the knitted sister shawl to our ever-popular Adalia crochet shawl. I hope you’ll keep reading to learn more!

Amaya was designed by Jane Vanselous. She says, “Soothing, muted earth tones and the softness of Alpaca Silk DK yarn make this shawl as comforting to knit as it is to wear. The accentuated crescent shape translates into a shawl that easily stays on your shoulders, while also allowing the tails to hang in soft spirals. Knitted in a DK weight yarn, this shawl works up fairly quickly.”

“Construction begins with a Garter Tab and expands outwards with simple increases along the edges. Additional increases in the first section provide for extra ease around your neck when wearing. Although this shawl is designed to be made with three colors, two colors – one main color and one contrasting accent color – would also work.

Amaya is an Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate level pattern. It is for those who feel comfortable with knitting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include increases, decreases, and optional chart reading.

Our Alpaca Silk DK yarn is the ideal choice for this delightful shawl. A blend of 50% Baby Alpaca and 50% Mulberry Silk gives this yarn incredible softness, wonderful drape, and amazingly cozy warmth. Wonderful for scrumptious wraps, soft sweaters, and treasured accessories.

Amaya is offered in one size only: 17” x 114” (43 x 290 cm). The sample shown here used 640 yds (586 m) total: Color A: 220 yds (201 m), Color B: 220 yds (201 m), and Color C: 200 yds (183 m). The sample is shown in our Aspen Hues Alpaca Silk DK kit.

We made a video demonstrating how to knit the border on this shawl. Take a look!
