Why I Love Knitting

♥ ♥ ♥

“Of all the earthly music, that which reaches farthest into heaven is the beating of a truly loving heart.”
~Henry Ward Beecher~

As it’s the day to celebrate love, and this is a knitting blog, I wanted to share with you the reasons I love knitting. But first, a story of how I came to knit…

I was driving along one day with my mom and sis and saw the neatest little yarn shop with such a cute window display. Although I had crocheted since I was 9, I had never successfully learned to knit. I had always wanted to, but […]

What Type of Knitter or Crocheter Are You?

What kind of knitter or crocheter are you?

It helps to know your own personal preferences and desires so you don’t fall into the trap of comparing yourself to others, or get disappointed in yourself for not finishing projects. It also helps you to select patterns more easily!

I’ve heard that there are two types of knitters (or crocheters, of course):

Product Knitters: These types of folks enjoy knitting, but mainly knit to have the finished object.

Process Knitters: If you really just enjoy the process of knitting more than actually having the finished object, then this is you!

I never could really decide which […]

Zen Yarn Spinning

Zen Yarn Spinning

I decided the other day to try Zen Yarn Spinning. This is a type of spinning where you sink into the moment and just be. You. The fiber. The wheel. Peace.

It was glorious!

I used some luscious roving from Sweet Georgia club of the month (from about a year ago. I don’t remember the color name or the type of fiber, but it looks like wool blended with either silk or bamboo).

I plan on making two arm warmers with this, so I split the entire length of fiber in […]

It Appears I’ll Never Get Finished

One of the things that has always bugged me about knitting is that I’m never done. I’m the type of person who thrives on accomplishment. I get my kicks from achievement.

So I would start a project with all the glee and gusto in the world, knit as fast as possible, get bored halfway through, muster up my strength and continue knitting, and FINALLY finish. And what a glorious feeling that would be! I would revel in that delicious state for about, OH… two minutes.

Until the bug to start another project hit me and I would be off to start the […]

It’s Dang Cold. Lined Mittens, Please!

I have essentially two topics today. 1. Lined Knitted Mittens because it’s below zero here!! 2. Having faith even when you can’t see the road ahead.

1. It’s getting super cold here. It’s been down to 20 below zero already, I think. Most days when I get out, it’s around 0 to 10 degrees, and it’s getting colder every week. It normally gets to 30, 40, and sometimes 50 below zero here. YIKES! That is flat out COLD, let me tell ya!! BRRRRR.

Already, my leetle fingers, they are COOOLD!! 🙂

And when living in climates like this, one has to plug one’s […]

Knitting,Tinkerbell and Life

Life can be scary sometimes.

Even when surrounded by people helping you and loving you.

And especially if you don’t have that.

I’m feeling contemplative today and have some thoughts to share.

I was knitting away on my Honey Cowl this morning and had some realizations.

I am often amazed at how knitting is a metaphor for life. I love to knit. I live to knit. It brings such a sense of peace. Quiet. Tranquility. Hope. Calm and contentment. It helps me to focus on the now, rather than thinking about the past or worrying about the future. Stitch by stitch. And another. And another. […]
