This Easy Knitted Leg Warmer pattern is too cute!!
You’ll remember from a previous post, they used to be a muted heather tan color and I dyed them charcoal gray.
One of the best decisions ever! I wear mainly blacks and grays instead of tans and browns (a total flip flop from a few years ago) and so these match much better.
The pattern is beyond easy. Just several inches of ribbing, then stockinette stitch, then finish with ribbing. Boom. Done. Easy.
UPDATE: By request, here is a rough pattern of these leg warmers:
Needle Size: US 6 (or size to get gauge!)
Gauge: Â 5 st/in
Yarn: Sport wt wool
•CO 51 st and join for working in the round, being careful to not twist your stitches.
•Work 2×1 rib around (K2, P1). Continue working this ribbing for 2.5 inches (from the CO edge.)
•Work stockinette stitch (knit every stitch every row) for 6 inches. The leg warmer will be 8.5 inches long at this point.
•Repeat the ribbing section (K2, P1) for 2.5 inches. Bind off, using a stretchy bind off, like the “Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off.”
Total length of the leg warmer: 11 inches.
I always hesitate to wear leg warmers, because they seem so… 80’s? Ballerina? Nothing wrong with the 80’s or ballerinas, but I don’t want to look silly in public is all.
But I have to say, these are so darn cute that I can’t help myself. I’m wildly in love with them!
My boo took some pictures of me yesterday wearing them (he’s just awesome like that):
Oh, yeah, and I made the hat too. Another simple pattern I made up, with black wool yarn and then I pinned a gray flower on it:
Happy happy!!
I’m still in a gray mood! Still knitting on my Honey Cowl. And feeling much better than I was a few days ago! My lungs are clearing up, I have my voice back and I feel incredible. YAY for health!!!
Have a fabulous weekend and try to get some knitting time in!!!
♥♥♥
Hi there,
I was wondering if you could give me a rough pattern for the leg warmers. They are exactly what I have been looking for. All I need really is yarn weight, needle size and number of stitches to cast on. Thank you in advance.
Sure thing! I updated the post with the pattern. 🙂
Hi Chandi, did you use a circular needle or straight needles??
I use both. It really depends on the project.
These are beautiful pictures! Great leg warmers too…….im casting on right now!
I love, love, LOVE legwarmers!! Since my early years’ obsession with Flashdance, going with my Mom to her Jazzercise classes, and my own feeble ventures into dance classes later on, my deep and abiding love for these ankle accessories never abated… Even before they came back into fashion, I was the “dork” who still insisted that they looked great. Lol! Just goes to show, if you wait long enough, everything swings back into being cool and acceptable… And even before then, if you rock it with confidence, then who the heck cares?! But seriously? Those are super cute, Chandi!!
I’ve so far only ever known how to crochet, and even then only in a straight line, and therefore only been able to make scarves and blankets. I’ve loved it, but have always wanted to learn how to expand that knowledge, venture into knitting, learn how to read and follow a pattern, and start making more nifty gifties! Seeing those leg warmers atop your adorable boots gives me the passionate boost of confidence I was looking for to get off my booty and get down to the craft store to invest in some needles!
I’m writing quite awhile after your original post, but keep up the awesome work!!
Molly – you can get whole books on knitting bnaklet squares! I usually use double knitting yarn with a smallish needle to keep the squares from being too stretchy (the ones I’m knitting at the moment are a bit looser than I’d usually make, as they’re to match some old squares found under the bed) … either plain garter stitch or moss stitch :)Maggie – thanks! xRie – oh, it’s horrid when it’s too hot to knit or sew! hope it cools down a bit for you soon 🙂
Hi! Any advice on adjusting this to be in Aran weight? I’m guessing I would cast on few stitches? Thank you!
Yep, that would be perfect!
Love these! I don’t know how to knit…. I would pay someone to make these. Let me know your price.
