Hello, beautiful! Today, I have a lovely, beginner friendly blanket pattern that is soothing and meditative to knit! I hope you’ll keep reading to learn all about this simple, but elegant design!
Skating was designed by Anne Robinson. When asked about this pattern, Anne said, “Knit with two strands of Yak Silk Lace yarn held together, Skating is a lush, warm blanket with exquisite drape. I drew inspiration for this design from lyrics in Joni Mitchell’s song River. The lyric says, ”I wish I had a river I could skate away on.” Diagonal lines of seed stitch mimic skate tracings on a frozen river. This design lends itself to using several colors of yarn and allowing them to blend one into the next. A slim seed stitch border surrounds the main body of the blanket. This is a perfect beginner project or an excellent easier project for the more experienced knitter. The pattern is easily memorized, making it a perfect on-the-go project!”
This Adventurous Beginner level pattern is for knitters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Skills/ concepts include knit, purl, cast on, bind off, following a pattern repeat within a larger repeat, and color changes. The pattern includes written instructions only.
Skating is knit with our luscious Yak Silk Lace yarn. When yak is combined with silk, you get an amazingly soft, lustrous, silky, saturated yarn that is impossible to ignore. Yak Silk Lace is a sumptuous, 2-ply blend of 50% ultra-soft yak down fiber and 50% lustrous silk. It’s buttery, creamy to the touch, and shimmery with dreamlike softness. Colors dyed onto this yarn base are rich, saturated, and bold. Perfect for sensual, soft shawls, scarves, baby clothes, socks, hats, and whatever you desire! Hold it double for projects requiring a thicker yarn. Projects made with Yak Silk Lace will be adored and treasured for years on end, and it’s loaded with yardage with 680 yds/630 m per skein.
Our sample was made with one Harmony Hues Yak Silk Lace Kit (680 yds/630 m per skein; 3,400 yds/ 3,150 m per kit).
