Hello, my lovely friend! I’m so excited to announce our 2026 Summer Crochet and Read Along! We’ll join together on Ravelry to crochet the Passage pattern, which is a cable and lace shawl, and also read Erin Morgenstern’s The Starless Sea together. Plus, there will be prizes at the end of our event, so I hope you’ll keep reading to learn how you can sign up and join in on all the fun!

Our featured pattern for the Summer Crochet and Read Along is Passage, which was designed by Carolyn Currier. When asked about this design, Carolyn said, “Passage is a light, flowing shawl inspired by doors, thresholds, and the quiet moment when one space becomes another. The shawl’s open lace center invites the eye to wander and is framed by Jacob’s Ladder cables that rise like architectural columns along the edges. Midway through the shawl, the inner cables separate, travel inward, and cross before returning to the borders — forming twin gothic arches that meet at the center. Beginning in tranquil blues and teals, the hues deepen through honeyed golds and burnished reds before settling into a moody, contemplative purple, like stepping from open air through torchlit arches into the hush of an inner hall. The drape is fluid and airy and shifts gently with movement. Approachable for adventurous beginners yet layered with thoughtful detail, Passage balances openness and structure. Each stitch marks a crossing, an invitation to step forward.

This is an Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate level pattern and is for those who feel comfortable with crocheting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Stitches/skills include single crochet, double crochet, and other special stitches. The pattern includes written and charted instructions and comes with a video tutorial.

Passage is crocheted with our new Starless Sea Collection, which was inspired by Erin Morgenstern’s enchanting tale of hidden worlds, timeless stories, and the mysterious threads that connect past, present, and possibility. The yarn colors in this collection are like opening a secret door and stepping into another story.

The Passage shawl is crocheted with our shimmering Luster Worsted yarn, which is a blend of 50% Superwash Merino Wool and 50% Lyocell, a plant fiber that provides the glow of silk without the price. Super soft and smooth with a shine that is out-of-this-world stunning! Luster Worsted has 200 yds/183 m per skein.

The sample shown here was crocheted with one The Starless Sea Hues Luster Worsted Kit and used approximately 1,550 yds/1,417 m total [Colors A – H: 170 yds/155.5 m each and Color I: 190 yds/174 m]. This nine-skein kit gathers the entire palette of the Starless Sea Collection into one enchanting set, where honeyed warmth, shadowy blues, mossy greens, and storybook neutrals weave together like chapters in a secret tale waiting to unfold in your stitches. The colors were used in the following order: A) The Infinite Library, B) Harbor of Stories, C) Painted Doors, D) Fate and Time, E) Mirabel’s Constellations, F) The Owl King, G) Dripping Honey, H) Drowned City, and I) Labyrinth.

We made a video in which I demonstrate the special stitches featured in this pattern and share more about our The Starless Sea Crochet and Read Along.
