Hello, my sweet! This week, I have a light top that is just perfect for summer nights out, and I hope you’ll keep reading to learn more about it.
Proserpina was designed by Emma Butram. When asked about this design, Emma said, “In ancient Greek mythology, Proserpina (or Persephone) was taken from her mother Demeter by the god of the underworld and forced to live with him six months out of the year, bringing about the cold and mournful weather of winter. When Proserpina came back to the land of the living, Demeter, the goddess of the harvest, would make sure the world was full of blossoms and plenty once more, as she rejoiced at seeing her daughter again.”
“While contemplating the change of seasons and how sometimes you just need a light sweater for those in-between days, I designed the Proserpina sweater. It is a short-sleeved, seamless yoke sweater that’s knitted top down and in the round with a simple, floral lace embellishment on the neckline and hem, which allows the yarn itself to shine. This sweater is perfect for those slightly cool spring and fall days. I hope you enjoy this simple yet elegant sweater.”
This Intermediate level pattern is for those who feel comfortable with knitting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include reading a pattern, working in the round, picking up stitches, increases and decreases, and knitting simple lace from a chart.
Proserpina was made using our beautiful Oasis Fingering yarn. This yarn is an incredibly soft, 3-ply yarn that’s ideal for long-wearing projects. It is a blend of 50% camel and 50% mulberry silk with 500 yds/457 m per 3.5 oz/100 g skein.
The sample shown here was knitted with the color Still Waters and is shown in a size Small on a 34″ (86.5 cm) bust. The pattern is offered in sizes XS – 3XL, and you’ll need two or three skeins of Oasis Fingering depending on the size you select.
The pattern contains written and charted instructions, and you will need to be able to read a simple lace chart to make this sweater.

I am working on Proserpina and wondering how you change yarn in the round so the colors blend. I seem to have a seam showing where I switch between the 2 balls.
Hi Joan, thank you for your message. I’m happy to help. To blend in a next ball of yarn so the transition isn’t obvious we recommend alternating yarns for several rounds. I hope this makes sense. Please let me know if you have further questions. – Johanna 💕
