Hello, sweet pea! I have a fun, lacy top pattern for you this week that is just perfect for the upcoming Spring and Summer weather. Read on to find out more about it!
Galateia was designed by Patricia Liefeld. When asked about her design, Patricia said, “Named for the goddess of calm seas, the Galateia (g-aa-l-AA-t-ee-aa) top is the sister pattern of the knitted Panopeia top. Galateia is a simple top that looks complicated. It can be easily adjusted to different lengths.”
“You can choose to make a sleeveless version or a sleeved version, or make one of each. I found the stitches in this pattern to be calming and relaxing, and I hope you do, too.”Galateia is shown here in our Oasis Fingering yarn. This yarn is super-duper soft with a lovely drape and a beautiful sheen! An incredibly soft, 3-ply yarn that’s ideal for long-wearing projects. Oasis Fingering is made with 50% Camel and 50% Mulberry Silk. 500 yd/457 m per skein.
The pattern is offered in nine sizes from XS to 5XL and can be crocheted with two to six skeins of Oasis Fingering depending on the size you select. The samples shown here were made in the colors Water’s Edge and Surreptitious. Both samples are shown in size Small and are modeled on a 34″ (86.5 cm) bust with 2″ (5 cm) of positive ease.
This Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate level pattern is for those crocheters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Concepts include special stitches, seaming, basic garment shaping, and blocking. The pattern includes written instructions and a chart.
We made a video tutorial showing you how to work the body stitch and the bodice lace stitch and how to attach the foundation single crochet to a current row. Take a look!
Download Galateia today! I’d also love for you to comment below, and tell me what color you are going to make your top in.
I appreciate your reading, and if you’d love to get brand new, premium knit and crochet patterns weekly, just hop onto our email list there on the site. We list new patterns most Fridays, and most are free for a limited time. I hope to see you there.
Talk to ya soon.

I just LOVE your videos! I have not crocheted a top before…a lot of other things but I have this wonderful baby blue yarn that I purchased last year and now I know I’m going to use it to make this top for me this early summer. I’ve never made anything for myself and right now at this moment I’m still feeling a little quilty, but I do love this top!!! Thank you for show, helping and loving all of us! May the Lord continue to bless you in all that you do and your husband.
Keep safe!
I have tried to crochet tops before and always abandon or end up frogging the project. The work just never looks like it’s going to fit or I end up not liking the pattern. I will try this one right away. The video tutorial will help me a bunch! Thank you for putting this together.
I’m in! Just ordered this and also the Montastraea pattern, both with your gorgeous Oasis Fingering yarn. I’ve never crocheted before, but I’m excited to do it!
I have never crocheted a top before, but this pattern is so cute that I have to try it! The stitches seem easy enough, but I am going to practice before I start with my ‘good’ yarn!
I’ve made 1 easy top successfully for myself before and 1 semi-successfully for my niece when she was a child. I’m looking forward to trying this slightly more complicated pattern. Love the look of it.
Excellent video and instructions. I’m making a second top from this pattern and love it. I’ve used a bit thicker yarn adjusting hook size and stitches working out well.
