Hello, my dazzling diamond! This week we have a real treat for you. It’s a new adventurous beginner level knitted cape pattern called Mantlemist, and I hope you’ll love it!
Mantlemist was designed by Janica York Carter. Make it with our Luster Sport yarn, for a warm treat to wear when you are in the office, a movie theater, on an airplane or whenever you just want to snuggle up in something warm.
Knit, purl, and occasionally change colors at the end of a row—no increases, one lone decrease, no lace—just simple texture from a four-row pattern repeat using a six-color kit designed to fade effortlessly from light gray to terrific teal. This seamless cape is one size fits most, although length and shoulder drape may alter in appearance based on individual frames.
We filmed a video tutorial for you showing you how to work this pattern. It’s easier than you think and you can adjust the width and length to suit your needs.
Have a look:
In this video I’m wearing our knitted pullover pattern, Faie. The other patterns we showed in Luster Sport can be found here. To learn how to change colors in your knitting, check out our Sulam shawl tutorial here.
The sample shown features our Lilo Hues Luster Sport Kit which is a gorgeous 6 skein set.
However, you can make this shawl out of any 6 skeins of our shimmering, hand-dyed Luster Sport yarn. The sample used approximately 2,225 yds (Color A: 360 yds, Color B: 395 yds , Color C: 390 yds, Color D: 390 yds, Color E: 390 yds, Color F: 300 yds) total.
We sincerely hope you love knitting this cape in whatever colors you choose.
Janica says, “While researching the name for this flowing garment, I discovered The Mistmantle Chronicles by M. I. McAllister, a series of children’s stories featuring a cape-wearing, sword-wielding red squirrel. How charming! I guess I know what I’m putting on my reading list next!” This cape is perfect for snuggling up in when you read your favorite book.
I appreciate you reading and if you’d love to get brand new, premium knit and crochet patterns weekly, just hop onto our email list there on the site. We list new patterns most Fridays and many are free for a limited time. I hope to see you there.
Talk to ya soon.
XOXOXO Chandi
Chandi – I love that sweater you’re wearing in the video tutorial. Is that from a pattern? If so, would you please tell me the name of it? Thanks! -Robin
Thanks, Robin! It is a pattern from the site. It is called Faie. Here is the link for you: https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/faie.html
Love the pattern, but I’m a beginner.
I think a beginner can do this. I’ve suffered two concussions and taught myself to knit while recovering from the first one. I still can’t do sweaters (too much for my brain to comprehend without seeing someone make an entire sweater) or socks (same trouble) but I can do beautiful shawl/scarves/blanket patterns. I live in the DC area so on the off chance that you’re local to me. I could meet you at a library or Starbucks to help you out if necessary. Message me here
I’m confused. it is the first time I am changing colors and carrying colors up the side. Which tutorial should I Watch?? I don’t see a search feature for the tutorials

Tutorials are great!
Hello! Just got my kit and wondering what color I start with to achieve the same look as shown. I’m a beginner so 🤞🏻hopefully I can do this. It’s my very first pattern. I’ve watched videos and made a couple of sock hats and a shawl but ready for more.
Hi Sheena, thank you for your question, I’m happy to help!
Color A in the Mantlemist pattern refers to the lightest gray color and the colors (B-F) move gradually to teal. I hope this answers your question. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Have a wonderful day! – Johanna 💙
