My favorite crafting memory is a faint one, because it is from a long time back, but it is being taught to crochet by my best friend’s mother. I have crocheted my entire life and it always brings me peace and joy
My favorite crafting memory is not crocheting or knitting, but being able to make flowers from tissue paper a little over three years ago. I must admit, that was not something we learned to do when I was growing up. After making those flowers, I excitedly picked up a crochet hook and started my crochet journey. Lol. My learning continues as I learn how to knit. Thanks Chandi for all of your videos and live streams.
My favorite crafting memory was panic finishing a blanket with my sister out of granny squares for my aunt behind the couch the day we were doing our family gift exchange. We managed to finish in time, and it came out beautifully. I’m told she uses it all the time. Now I just need to finish one for another aunt, my grandma, and my mom
My favorite crafty moment was the year I taught some of my 5th graders how to knit. This group of girls did not get along but one of them drew up a contract which they all signed before coming to me to ask if I would teach them! These ladies gave up their lunch every Thursday for 1/2 the school year (who can compare with nice Spring weather and outdoor recess). They are 8th graders now!
My favorite memory of knitting is when my grandmother taught me. He taught me how to crochet, and I’ve been wanting to crochet again.
My favorite memory was when I knit for my grand mother, she appreciate a lot.
My favorite crafting memory is an afternoon spend crocheting with my mother and her best friend.
My favorite crafting memory was learning I could get a sweater from the thrift store, unravel it into a ball and make something new. At a time when I was homeless & feeling really down about myself, it gave me a sense of pride in my ability to be resourceful & creative. I’m doing much better now but I still feel great joy when I can repurpose something… Much like myself.
💕
My favorite crafting memory is when I first became interested in knitting so I grabbed some random wooden sticks and a ball of yarn my brother had given me, I opened youtube and Chose the first video I could find, but when I started I realized that the yarn wouldn’t slip off the sticks, so my took me shopping the next day and when I went to the yarn store she bought me some yarn, knotting needles and a hook, it took me a really long time to knit so I moved on to crochet and I ended up giving up on knitting but definetly not crochet
My favorite memory is recent. Last Christmas my mom sat with me and tried to teach me how to knit. She was so patient and kind. I love spending time with my mom. We have created beautiful friendship these last few years and I am super grateful for our time together. Shes 73 and I will turn 50 on June 9th. So it would be a wonderful 50th birthday gift to win the giveaWay.
My favourite crafting memory is watching my mother make a Christmas wreath entirely out of lollies. Ps I was very very young
My favorite crafting memory is of Grandmas yarn/crafting closet. It was always so fun to go with her to pick out goodies to work on. She taught me to crochet.
My knitting journey started when my dad told me that my grandma taught him knitting and he used to make scarf and cap. I gave it a go with wooden takeaway chopstick and watching beginner video in the YouTube. He saw me struggling really hard and he bought me knitting stick. He was my knitting teacher. And I learnt in a week. I made a neck warmer. It was not the greatest but I am always proud of all the project. All of the finished project is my favourite moment and when ever I wear my knitted clothing then that’s the best feeling. I guess you all understand how happy you feel when you finish your project.
My best experience in my crochet journey was when one of my granddaughters asked me to make her a blanket. Of course I did and from that day forward I realized that this was the most joy I ever had making a blanket. Now I am always making a lot of things for my grandkids and it is such a wonderful thing to do
My favorite crafting memory is making home made christmas presents with my kids. Nothing like sering things through the eyes of a child!
My favorite crafting memory is making a soft toys, a butterfly and a ladybug, with my two little daughters. We had so much fun making something new almost every day, but these two toys are our loveliest until now.
Hi Candi. My favourite crafting memory is of my late Grandmother. She taught me how to knit. Se helped me to knit a pair of baby booties for my Aunt.
The yarn looks beautiful. Those colours are amazing.
Hi, my favourite crafting memory is very recent. I am a new crocheter who has tried and failed to knit. I loved it when I finished my first crochet project – a blanket and this pushed me to begin a new one straight away. I have a list of 10 projects and yarn exploding from my office….I think I’m addicted!
I learned crochet from my mother. She makes wonderful table runners, crochet designs for throw pillows, curtains 😄almost everything. When i was young we sat side by side quietly doing our own crochet designs. It was peaceful and relaxing. We didnt have much money so my mom would buy the cheapest crochet thread but still manage to make intricate designs look beautiful masterpieces. If i win i will gift her these. And now my kids are also learning how to crochet from her.
My favorite memory was when I just started out with crocheting and I wanted this blanket I was working on to be absolutely perfect. Id say I was a quarter done. And realized that I messed up a stitch 10 rows back. Lol so I frogged the whole thing. Started all over. All this frustration and newly taught patience was for high school clothing class assignment lol
Fave Crafting Memory.. no one outstanding memory TBH 🤔 But the ones that top my list are the moments I’ve finished a crocheted project, blocked it, wrapped it up and given it to someone who can enjoy it.! 💟
My favorite memory is a very recent one, when I learned that my friend was expecting a baby boy! I made a C2C baby blanket for Joshua, and his mother sent me a photo of her new born, in the hospital, wrapped in his Nita blanket. I was beyond happy and so proud that of all the blankets Joshua received, his Nita blanket is his favorite, according to momma!
My favorite crafting memory is making Christmas orniments with my grandma.
My favourite crafting memory was crocheting 11 lap blankets and donating them to the Day Room of a local old age home. When I heard from one of the workers there that the pensioners would rush to the room every morning so they could grab their favourite blanket to use that day, it did make me smile. I made 12 blankets in total, and each one was a different pattern and with different colours, but when my mother saw the last one I made (which was a pattern I made up as I went along), she completely fell in love with it, so I gifted it to her. I gave each blanket a name, and her’s was called “Mother’s Fancy”, which she treasured for the rest of her life. ❤
My favorite crafting mememory was with my girls. We crocheted and sewed. They would do little art crafts.
My favorite memories, basically everytime I: 1. Get a new skein of yarn (it’s always so exciting, so many possibilities), 2. Whenever I finish a project (and think “wow, I really did that!”), 3. Whenever I try a new pattern and I realize how it ‘magically’ worked (it always amazes me). Plus a ball of cashmere I bought, which was a love/hate relationship, it was a nightmare to work with, very fiddly and lace, so you can imagine… but I loved how it turned out and the scent coming from the ball (which was probably just the smell of the oil they put, but anyway…)
My favorite crafting memory is when I crocheted a shawl for my granny
My favourite crafting memory is when I completed my first ever sweater and I wore it every day for a week, I was so happy with how it turned out 🙂 I save it for special occasions now as I’ve worn it so much I’ve had to reweave the sleeves so many times!
At ahe 10 or so, I wanted to knit my Dad a pair of argyle socks for Christmas. My experience to that point was knitting garter stitch squares for doll blankets. My Mom got me a sock kit, it came in a plastic tube. She patiently led me through reading a pattern and chart. Somehow, an almost recognizable pair of socks emerged. The colorwork was puckered, a few holes but full of love.
My favorite memory would be my mother teaching me to crochet!
My favorite crafting memory collides with a school science project. I had to make a butterfly for first or second grade science. My mother helped me make one out of…this is a little crazy…LOBSTER SHELLS. It was beautiful.
My favorite crafting memory is all the times my mom tried to teach me how to crochet and it ends up to be a nanny that gets me to understand it lol
My favorite memory is from when I was very young and my grandma thought me how to crochet just the chain, and I made meters and meters of it. Some years ago I decided I want to learn how to make second row also, so that’s how my journey began..
My favorite memory is crocheting a rose quilt for my mother and seeing the reaction she had when I gave it to her
Well, I learned how to knit recently sooo my favorite memory is when I was able to knit a decent square, because I realise I was in love. c:
(Sorry if my writing has mistakes)
Mine is when i finish a project for someone. And the joy that they have when they receive the gift.
My favorite crafting memory is from moving into a new house and I had an empty room and friends and I had a yarn swap party and there was yarn EVERYWHERE. You could lie down and make yarn angels 😇
My favorite crafting memory was cross stitching something for my son when I was pregnant with him.
I’ll always remember the encouragement I got from my great grandmother when I would show her my crocheting!
Favourite crafting Memories, well there are so many… but the best is watching my grandmom crochet so many pretty intricate designs…had she been alive, I am sure she would have one of your avid fans….
Love these colors – right in my wheelhouse!
My favorite memory so far -my son is a fan of Dr Who and asked for the fourth doctors scarf. It took forever – but finished. He’s over 6 feet tall and this wraps around him twice and still hits the floor!
I’d say one of the best crafting memories is related to feeling accomplished after completing my first legit shawl. I started knitting and found out quickly it could be super challenging, so I hit youtube for some tutorials and stumbled on your ‘how to knit video.’ When watching your beginning knitting video, I remember saying to myself ‘finally someone who can make knitting approachable, fun, and rewarding.” From there I practiced using all my years worth of yarn scraps, and eventually gained the confidence to pick up the Sonder pattern and gave it a go! Now I am practicing to begin my next scarf projects, and that moment of completion inspires more yarn and pattern collecting! Thank you!
Love love love the yarn colors, so gorgeous! I’m a new-ish crocheter but my best memory so far is finishing my first blanket for my niece. She loves blankets and throws so she was my first customer and she loves her gift!! Made my heart sing!
My favorite memory of makif was the year i learned to crochet. I tried a granny square blanket and i had to oull it apart 13 times.
The 14th was the charm and i was “hooked” you could say
This yarn is so beautiful Chandi! I need it all to fill up my yarn stash! 😍
Hi Chandi!
My favorite yarn crafting memory was of a new born baby sweater I crocheted last year during the lock down. That was the time I started crocheting vigorously. I still have it; waiting for a new born to gift:)
You videos and patterns are beautiful.
Thank You:)
Hello, I have been knitting since I was a child and my grandma taught me. During my life I have been knitted a bit here and there but as life goes, with very limited time. Now, I have become a grandma to eight grandchildren and realized I have to go about something faster to get baby blankets made. So, with my first grandchild approaching, I self taught me to crochet and the first project was a supercute baby blanket. I have been learning quite a bit n this journey of crocheting and love to make all sorts of things for my grand kids and beyond.
Pulling out my knitting at a rodeo and making my friend envious enough to run home to get hers 🤣
A favorite crafting memory is when I first started quilting I got to go “shopping” for fabrics in my grandma’s stash! And now she periodically gives me another “shopping spree”
I don’t think I have a specific craft memory. I enjoy everything I am able to make, especially when it comes to doing something for the first time!!!
My favorite craft memory so far has been making a picture quilt for my Mother’s 50th birthday..
I also don’t have a specific favorite memory because my absolute favorite thing about crafting is the joy I get seeing people use things I made for them whether it’s a blanket or a pair of socks, it’s the best feeling in the world.
I remember the when I learned to knit and I had my 3 and 6 year olds pick out the yarn, and when I finished their first scarfs. They showed great joy and were surprised to know that I had made the “magic”!
Your yarn is absolutely beautiful, and the tone you set is just as lovely! One of my favorite making memories is when I was first learning to knit from a friend and we would sip tea & chat while working on it.
Favorite crafting memory would have to be this morning! I just blocked a project for the first time! So excited to see how it turns out!
Congratulations!
One of my favorite crafting memories was just recently when my 8 year old daughter was crocheting chain necklaces beside my while I worked on a sweater.
My favorite crafting memories are with my grandmother. If something got messed up she would say, “ it’s not a mistake..It’s an opportunity to do something new and different that we never imagined before!”
Love this!
I remember watching my mom make crochet angels and bells for Christmas decorations when I was a child. I thought it was magic. Now I can crochet, too, and it’s a craft we can share.
My favorite crafting moment was when I finished my first sock and my husband looked at it in amazement and said “holy crap that actually looks like a sock!”.
Hello! Thank you for these amazing yarns! My favourite craft experience is teaching my son to crochet.
Love love love all your yarns. I am currently working on the cirro-velum vest and just wanted you to know that Pam has been a great help with some questions I had. Your customer service is second to none. Your yarn selection for the May giveaway is absolutely stunning. 🤞 Thank you.
My favorite crafting memory has to be teaching my family members to knit and crochet.
Love your Facebook live. And the yarn and patterns.
Hi Chandi! Favorite crafting memory….One standout is many years I made a baby blanket for a coworker. I was a crocheter at that time, but decided to buy an inexpensive “starter” knitting machine, and this blanket was my first project. Once the baby was born, I embroidered it with her name and birthdate. I gave my coworker the blanket, and she was very appreciative, gushing over how soft it was. I moved away and eventually we lost touch. Fast forward several years later, and I ran into her at a work event. I asked how her daughter was, and the first thing she told me was that her daughter loved the blanket as a baby, and still used it at night when she went to bed! That was the first time I was ever told anything like that about a gift I created, and it made me so happy to hear her daughter loved it so much. It definitely inspired me to continue crafting, and I eventually taught myself how to knit sometime after that. I love knitting and crocheting for my friends and family!
I tried to teach my granddaughter to knit but found it difficult as I’m right handed and she’s left handed. So I taught myself to knit left handed first then tried again. It worked. Although she’s adopted her own style she coming along nicely.
A crafting memory…soooo many. I knit, paint, crochet baby blankets…they’re all so good! But I crocheted a blanket for one of my aunt’s granddaughters and she was soooo excited for it. That still makes me smile
Absolutely gorgeous yarn!! And purple is my favorite color! Thank you for all you do for the fiber community. You are inspiring!
My favorite crafting memories are always when I would get together with others and visit while crafting. I did that often 10 years back making greeting cards and then more in more recent years getting together with other knitters and spending time knitting, chatting, and sharing
Patterns and ideas. Always fun times.
Thank you, Chandi, for this beautiful pink-purple May Giveaway! 💜💖 And congrats to last month’s winner.
I’m not sure that I have a favorite crafting memory, but I always get very excited when someone asks me about a sweater or shawl I’m wearing and I can say I made this myself and then seeing their big eyes. 😊 Also, I’ve recently realized that I actually have quite a few friends that are crafters too and I didn’t know. 🧶 I’ve met them through other hobbies, work, or in college and it’s great to know that you have other things in common as well. ❤️
What about you, Chandi? Any special crafting memory?
That’s lovely! So many happy memories for me. I remember one time trying to knit a sweater in a few days, and curling up in the sunshine, listening to the birds chatter and clicking away… click click click go the needles!
I also don’t have a favourite crafting memory yet but i am waiting for one .. my elder sister has been married for 5 years and she’s still waiting for her first baby.. i have been waiting too while crocheting clothes for the baby .. i even started learning knitting to make clothes for him too .. i think my favourite crafting memory would be when he or she wears the clothes i made while waiting for him
A favorite crafting memory is when I taught my oldest daughter to crochet.
I’ll never forget what it was like to try on the first sweater I had ever made. I didn’t really like the colors, or the fit until I tried it on. It didn’t fit the way it was supposed to, but it still fit nicely. It’s a favorite of mine to this day.

My favorite crafting moment was when my Mother was teaching me how to knit just a couple of years ago and would correct my mistakes. She was completely self taught and loved to make beautiful sweaters. She died of Covid last May – 2 days after her 92nd birthday.
Gail, so sorry for your loss.
There are so many wonderful memories, it’s hard to pick just one. But my most memorable one was back in the early 90s, when I was doing craft shows. At the time I did a variety of crafts, and was very involved in counted cross stitch. A woman approached me and said, “How can you charge this price for all the work you put into it?” I told her, “Because I want people to enjoy what I enjoy creating.” She said, “I could never do this.” I asked her, “But I bet you are really good, at something else, maybe I’m not as good at, like cleaning?” She said proudly, “Yes, I am!” So there you have it. Thank goodness my cleaning skills have improved, since not doing craft shows anymore. We all weren’t made the same, and it’s such a joy when you find what makes you happy. There will always be those that are better at some things, than others. Praising those who can master a task I wouldn’t attempt, and learning from those in the things I love to do most. Thank you Chandi, all your designers, and dyers for all you put into your art!
Love all your yarns!
This is one of my fave yarn giveaways yet, just adore the colorways!
My favorite crafting memory is my grandmother teaching me to sew on her treadle sewing machine.
My favorite crafting memory was crocheting blankets for my kids. I used the same amount of yarn for both but ended up totally different results for both. My daughter’s blanket was just how intended it to be bity son’s blanket was too small and crooked, haha!! They both love their blankets just as they are.
Wow, these giveaways are awesome!
Starting to take knitting classes with my daughter is one of my favorite crafting moments.
Hi Chandi ! I have to say, Cuddled up on the couch with a few of our cats keeping me cozy and warm whilst I knit or crochet is STILL the best . I t is an ever favorite on going memory that is tucked into every stitch I make ! Thank you for this great Gift Away as always. All the best , marcia
I just died a little looking at the colors in this giveaway…beautiful!
My high school friends and I, we use to make friendly bracelets using yarn or thread and we use to sell them to buy makeup and things…. lol
The yarn is gorgeous. The colors are so luxurious.
My favorite crafting memory is learning to sew from my mother whom is a seamstress! She taught my Girl Scout troop around when I was 10! She taught me much more over the years. I’m still continuing to learn from her.
Wow these colors are AMAZING!! One of my favorite memories (because I can’t pick just one) is making baby clothes for my friends first child! I loved all the soft yarn and what it meant for all of us.
One of my favorite crafting memories is my mom teaching me to crochet when I was little. ❤️
These colors are beautiful! They remind me of the lavender fields in France. And that brings me back to my favorite crafting memory on a holiday in France, when I was crocheting a beautiful shawl on the balcony of a beautiful little French hotel, with lovely lavender fields in the area.
My mom teaching me to knit and sew.
My favorite crafting memory is being taught how to spin by a newly met friend in our local library crafting group. We became fast friends and she opened the gates to the magic of fiber! She shared not only spinning, but weaving, dyeing, needle felting, wet felting, and fiber prep. She created spinning challenges for our group and hosted fiber days st her farm. Many, many thanks to Linda P. for teaching me so many skills and providing a community of fiber friends.
Oh my … my go-to-color is pink since I get so many compliments when I wear it. Would love to win!
My favourite crafting memory is dyeing my own yarn during a convention together with my friends. Getting together with friends to share your passion is such a joy!
I think my favourite memory is from this past year when I finished not one but four hand sewn quilt tops. The last one I finished last night and it was the one I’d started a long time ago, then I started putting it together in 2017 shortly after my mom passed away. I got stuck for awhile on how to finish it so I set it aside and then picked it up again to finish it about 5 months ago. It’s a very large quilt top at 112 inches wide by 118 inches long. The joy I had at it’s completion was beyond description.
One of my favourite memories is me wanting to learn how to knit when I was 8. My mom wasn’t a knitter so couldn’t teach me, so she took me to a local yarn shop and the owner gave lessons, so taught me. Thanks for having such great giveaways every month!
My favourite memory is my great-grandmother teaching me embroidery.
My mom and grandma teaching me how to knit when I was ten 🙂
Hi Chandi, I learned knitting, glass painting, macrame craft, hand embroidery and crochet from my Maa (mother), we spend lot of time learning from each other. My favorite crafting memory is my first project knitting yellow and black colors bee scarf (dah I was 13 YO), she helped me with it and it was fun. Today I relived those beautiful memories thank you for that 🥰
One of my first and favorite crafting memories is of watching my grandmother take a dress apart, cut it down and make a new dress that looked completely different and beautiful. She taught me to make doll clothes without patterns. I am not the seamstress she was but I did learn to love to make things from her.
I remember making a Mod striped knit T shirt with a pattern from Seventeen magazine that I thought was so cool. The yarn available to me back then was not the best but I was still proud of it. It was white with pink, red, rose stripes in k2,p2 ribbing. I think the pattern had knee socks to match.
My favourite memory is creating a blanket for my granddaughter
My favorite crafting memory is learning crocheting and knitting with my grandma when I was a kid, thanks to her I was able to pick up my beloved hobby after many years.
Hi Chandi, I learned knitting, glass painting, macrame craft, hand embroidery and crochet from my Maa (mother), we spend lot of time learning from each other. My crafting memory is my first project knitting yellow and black color bee scarf (dah I was 13 YO), she helped me with it and it was fun. Today I relived those beautiful memories thank you and have a wonderful day 🥰
I remember learning to chain from my great-aunt when I was very young. It was the moment I gained a great love of crocheting, though I didn’t really learn to do more than chain for many years.
Making my first quilt with my grandma! Sewing with her are some of my favorite memories of her. She would’ve been thrilled that my bf finally got me hooked on knitting!
I don’t think I have a favorite crafting memory because each project is so unique. I can’t decide what’s my favorite thing to make haha.
In addition to being an obsessed knitter, I am also a huge board game fanatic. I have been working on a way to combine my two loves by creating a knitting themed board game. My favorite crafting moment is finally getting to share my love of knitting with my non-knitting family and friends by playing my game with them. It really makes me smile to give them this glimpse into my fiber-y world.
When I was very little my Mom taught me to crochet. Which is so special since she’s gone now!
Hi Chandi, I learned knitting, glass painting, macrame craft, hand embroidery and crochet from my Maa (mother), we spend lot of time learning from each other. I have so many memories of crafting with my G-ma when I was a child. From cross stitching on canvas & plastic canvas to crocheting. She taught me how to crochet when I was in elementary school. About 2 years before she passed, I snuck a bag of granny squares that she had made 40+ years ago and joined them together for her with black yarn and gifted the blanket to her. I’ll never forget that precious moment – her reaction was priceless! Thanks for asking this question; it brought back some wonderful memories of our time together.
i remember my bff and i crocheting at break. we worked together for a while. it was a fun memory
I began crocheting at 16 when I was hospitalized for intense physical therapy for 3 weeks to learn to walk again. A lovely granny with time on her hands showed me a chain stich and single crochet, and I haven’t put my hooks down since. Nearly 17 years in, I am entirely self-taught, a certified crochet instructor, and often take archival-level antique repair comissions, along with creating 1-of-a-kind custom fiber art.
Crochet and creation have gotten me through some really tough times. I love this community and our collective support, no matter what forum we meet in. Thank you for making beautiful, quality yarn for us to use.
What an incredible story, Brittany!
One of my favorite crafting memories was spending a week in summer as a teenager at my grandparent’s house where I crafted away with my grandma. I was getting into sewing and she was helping me learn new techniques and how to add blind hems to skirts. She also taught me how to knit and I made a yellow scarf for my barbie doll.
My favorite memory is when I first started getting into crafting. My aunt taught me how to crochet an amigurumi pineapple slice while we were on vacation.
Having the ICU nurses commenting on the socks I knit for my husband. Intarsia, of the Frisian flag, the Netherlands province where my in-laws lived.
I helped you name that Kermit green yarn one year; that was so awesome!
I love it!
I would say my favorite memory was knitting my first beanie. It was actually my first knit project ever. I was in Lagos, Nigeria trying to pass the time in a hotel while my husband was at work. I had brought with me a skein of beautiful jade Dewy DK yarn from Expression Fiber Arts. It was so soft and sumptuous. I fell in love with it instantly. I followed a very simple beanie pattern using size US 6 needles. I didn’t know how to check for gauge so I just knitted along. Somehow it ended up working out. It could have been a few rows longer in hindsight, but it still fit, and I was oh so happy. Nearly 7 years later, it is still my favorite beanie.
So many great crafting memories! My favorite is getting my daughter-in-law get “hooked” on crochet!
My favorite crafting memory is teaching my granddaughter to knit.
My favourite crafting memory happened shortly before the pandemic hit. I have knit for about 40 years, my Mother has crocheted for about 60 years. The last time I was able to spend a week with her, I had no sooner walked in the door, than she proudly showed me her yarn and needles and a knitting pattern for a simple shawl that she had found on Ravelry. And she asked me if I would teach her how to knit!
We sat down that night. We got her shawl cast on, and she worked so hard over the next five days on her project. She learned the basic stitches, some slightly more complex stitches AND how to frog! We laughed, we drank some wine, we shared stories of learning our yarn crafts and a million other things.
Then, on the Friday before I left, we went together to her weekly ladies charity knitting club, where she has always crocheted while the other participants knit. We didn’t say a word about her project. When we all took up our needles she worked in her shawl quietly until someone noticed. I will never forget the look of pride and excitement on her face, and I know I felt just as proud of her myself!
Since then I have had to rely on the ladies to help her out with her bind off and I have only seen her shawl in a photo, but I am counting the days until I can see her again and help her cast on her next knitting project! I am so proud of her, she is such an amazing person and it felt so good to be able to teach her something after 53 years of her teaching me! It brings me joy to recall this…thank you for such a wonderful question Chandi.
Stay safe everyone.
This is an absolutely beautiful story, Cindy. Thank you for sharing. I hope you get to see your mom soon. 💕
Remembering when my mom taught me crochet…
My favourite crafting memory is sitting on a mat, in Chad, Africa, learning to knit by counting stitches on a model hat, as there weren’t any patterns.
The folk surrounding me there rooted my knitting in community, which I still value today.
My favorite crafting memory is learning to knit with my mom. We took our lessons at Sears, believe it or not. She was very crafty, but didn’t take to knitting (I finished her project for her). I have been knitting for 50 years now and it’s one of the best things I have ever done!
I enjoy watching people open gifts that I made.
Hi Chandi: My favorite crafting memory was, watching my 8 year old grandson sewing his first project. It was exciting to me because he asked to do it, and did it well.
My father taught me to crochet when I was little not much just the chain stitch but I loved doing anything with him and then years later I taught my mom to cross stitch and we spent years being stitching buddies. I miss those days .
Your talent for combining colours is phenomenal. And these are another set of gorgeous hues. My knitting is a family skilled, learned from my grandmothers and mother. One cherished memory is of my sister knitting her fiancée a lovely cardigan with cable accents. The project was off the needles and she was finishing up her ends. The snip of one errant thread clipped a stitch in the front. My sister swore! My father said “I’ll head to bed”., my Mom said “Don’t panic” while my sister cried. Experience won out. Mom had the hole repaired in no time.
My favorite memory is of my great grandma teaching me to crochet at the age of 5. The next time I saw her, I gifted her my first project: a skein’s worth of green yarn, crocheted into a VERY long chain. That started my lesson in turning and making rows. I found the chain in a drawer of keepsakes when she passed away 8 years later♥️
My favorite crafting memory was doing a crochet chain with my grandmother and her trying to get me to actually do anything else other than just a chain. I told her I would never get it. She past away when I was in Iraq but all her yarn was gifted to me from an aunt. That was my first yarn stash. I wish she could see some of the stuff I make now!
Wow, great memories being posted! I made an Afghan for my grandmother for Christmas. It took me forever! But she really liked it and used it for many years. Another memory was designing and making a cross stitched family tree for my grandparents. It’s still on their wall.
My favorite crafting memory is my with my grandmother teaching me to knit on a large empty spool with 4 nails in it. With that she taught me to make wash clothes or rags as she liked to call them. I love to crochet and also beaded jewelry. I love yarn. I love the feel and the smell. I hope to find time to learn new stitches so I can make more gifts for my family.
My not so favorite favorite crochet memory was learning the love knot. I was 17 and long ago before internet and mom had never tried it so I had to figure it out myself. It literally took me 24 hours. But I was so happy when I finally made it look like the picture. I was making the doily for my dad who is a truck driver and it was his favorite color light blue. And it’s still on his night stand 25 years later. Pattern is eternal love… one pattern I’ll never forget.
Love those pinks and purples!!! My favorite crafting memory is from several years ago when I was taking knitting classes from a wonderful knitter who has since passed away.
Some of my earliest memories of Mama were the beautiful dresses she sewed for my sisters and I. She would sew all night and we would get up in the morning to find 3 dresses hanging in the doorway waiting for us to put them on to be hemmed. But Mama not only sewed, she knitted up a storm and when she wasn’t knitting or sewing she was playing the piano or the organ or the accordion. She said she was not an artist because she couldn’t draw a straight line but I bet if she ever took any lessons she would find out art is not straight lines and she would excel in that too. Oh! She also wallpapered and painted and made plans for our house remodel. I want to be more like my Mama. Right now she is helping Jesus design my mansion.
I don’t really have a favorite crafting memory because there are too many to choose from. In fact, I have never had a bad crafting moment because, similar to what the lady earlier said, mistakes are simply a challenge for you to get creative.
Sitting in the living room, early teens… We’d just moved….with Mom as she taught me how to knit and then crochet.
My favorite crafting memory is sitting next to my Grandma with her showing me how to knit, I can still picture her in her chair even though she’s been gone for 45 years.
My favorite crafting memory is the first time I was able to knit something complex 100% without a pattern.
A blogger I followed posted that he was knitting gloves. Meg Swansen’s i-cord-finger gloves. And with those few words, and one photo, it just clicked. I sped home, laughing like a maniac, because I could *see* exactly how they were constructed. It was a huge lightbulb moment! And a few measurements, a gauge swatch, and an hour of knitting later I had a pair of gloves!
My favorite crafting memory is making potholders on a loom when I was a kid.
I think my daughter was about 8 or 9 months old, when she sat in her chair, watching me making bobbin lace and put her cookie onto my pillow. Some years later she started to make lace on this pillow, because it had her cookie mark on it. I love passing on my skills to kids.
My favourite crafting memory/moment is when I can sit in the livingroom and crochet with windows open and a slight breeze, often kept company by the family cat and birds singing. This is when I am most at peace…. and the best times of year are Spring and Fall, when it is not too warm. 😊
My favorite recent crafting memory is when my 8 year old niece texted me asking if I’d teach her to crochet. She’d seen me working on a project a few weeks earlier and decided she wants to learn how to crochet. I mailed some hooks and yarn from my stash to her and we’ve had a few video call lessons.
I remember my great grandmother sitting by the window to be able to see better to crochet doll dresses. She even made wedding dolls for both me and my sister. One day I asked her to teach me and I made a chain that was incredibly long 🙂
Qué te a parecido? No es genial??. Un abrazo Chandi ❣️
I think that is awesome! 🤩
My favorite crafting memory is from when we lived in Norway and my mum taught me to knit after we saw a couple of women and their daughters knitting Norwegian jumpers on the train and I was fascinated with knitting with two colours!
Pretty colours! I don’t really have just one memory, but what I love most is seeing people wearing and enjoying what I’ve made for them!
My favorite is the day I finished my longest project to date- a life-sized anatomically correct human skeleton I designed and created over the course of 22 months. Finished at midnight, snapped a selfie, and crashed HARD and happy!
The joy of gifting something you have made and the receiver loving it (as in perfect as it may be) just because you made it!
My favorite crafting memory is of teaching my daughter to crochet. She was so proud of her first beanie hat!
My favorite crafting memory is sitting in the diner with my stepmom & hand-winding a ball of silk laceweight while we talked about nothing in particular. It was the last time we went out together. Breast cancer took her life 3 weeks later. When I crocheted that yarn after she passed, it held the bittersweet memories of our final visit.
My favorite crafting memory is learning yo crochet with my great grandmother. She sat me down ams taught me all about yarn. I still have her crochet hooks ❤
My favorite crafting moment was learning to knit my first pair of socks. I didn’t start with something simple but plunged right in with toe-up-two-at-a-time. I even used self-striping yarn and they came out beautifully with perfect matching of the stripes.
All of these purples make me so happy! Favourite crafting memory? There are so many having learned to crochet & knit when I was around five. One that returns most often is working a crochet granny square vest behind the scenes at one of my earliest ballet recitals 🙂
I am a life long crafter – can’t pinpoint my favorite crafting moment. My mom was a crafter – avid knitter and she instill that in all six of her children. It’s as if I was born crafting! I enjoy quilting – have a quilting business in fact – sewing in general, cross stitching, embroidery, knitting – lots of knitting! and various other crafts.
Your yarn is beautiful!! I have been “drooling” over it for a long time!
My mum tried to teach me to knit when I was about 9 years old but she’s right handed and I’m a leftie, and I struggled! When I was in my 20s, my late grandmother taught me how to knit using the Continental method and everything clicked! I have now been knitting for years and I LOVE it. Every time I pick up the needles, I think of my beautiful, amazing grandmother who brought joy and love to everything she did and left me such a wonderful gift. xx
Knitting with my mom! she taught me to knit when I was 5 and we always found time to knit together. Knitting has gotten us both through a lot of difficult times, the hardest being her battle with Ovarian Cancer.
Your yarn is always so beautiful! I don’t really have a singular favorite crafting memory – but I always loved watching my Grandma and my Mom sew (they never really knit or crocheted) when I was little. My most treasured items are the blankets that they’ve made.
My favorite crafting memory is learning to knit socks with my sister. I made so many mistakes, but we laughed together over it and had so much fun. That was over 10 years ago, and now i usually fix all her knitting mistakes!!!
My favorite crafting memory is when my daughter wanted to learn to knit and we discovered that because she’s right-handed and I knit left-handed the only way to do it was for her to sit facing me and watch. She still knits to this day.
My favorite memory of yarn crafting was when I was learning to crochet, about 10 years ago, and was trying to make a star. It turned out looking like an Ood from Dr. Who. My husband was impressed, then I ruined it by saying it was supposed to be a star. lol
I have a few fond crafting memories, from when my great-aunt taught me to crochet and my grandma taught me to cross stitch. I’ve always had yarn and embroidery floss on hand because of them!
My favorite knitting memory is when I learned to knit in my youth at a home economics class. With the knowledge of knit and purl, I later made a blanket made of 12 x 12 squares. It was big enough for a single bed. The colors were off-white and purple.😀😍
My favourite crafting moment/s were taking the kids to a lapidary club and to the chat and choose handcrafts as part of their home education and being able to participate with them. To this day they still have a love for crafts.
My Mom teaching me to knit. I was about 5 and the yarn was white acrylic with a red fleck left over from a cardigan she made me. I can still see the sweater and the “Barbi” clothes I made from the leftover yarn, esp a shawl/wrap.
I taught myself to crochet as a child and it has brought me a lot of joy over the years. One of my favorite memories is the afghan that I made during the years that my daughter was on a club volleyball team. I got a lot done at those day long tournaments.
My favorite memory is sitting next to my grandmother and watching her crochet. Later in life, when she was advancing in dementia and I asked her to help learn, she could only remember a single crochet and rather than be sad about it, she would giggle and cuddle up to me. Now crocheting makes me feel close to her and comfortes.
Learning to crochet with my aunt, when I was barely in kindergarten. I can’t remember what I ate yesterday for lunch, but I can remember sitting in her dining room over four decades ago! <3
I knitted softies for my two grandkids this past Christmas. While I’ve been knitting for years and crocheting even longer, I’d never made anything with a face. I fell in love with the little elephant and bunny as I created them. And my joy was increased when I saw my grandkids loving them as well. So fun!
My first memory was being taught to knit by Grandmother who was Polish and barely spoke English
She used hand gestures to teach me and we spent many great days with her gesturing and interspersing these with her few English word. Like “Gutt”, “Move it there”
I learnt and have knitted for over 75 years now. I taught myself to crochet when my children were very young and now make lots of things for them, my 9 Grandchildren, and my 8 Great Grandchildren with one more due in July.
Love this!
Gorgeous yarn!! My favourite memory is the day I finished and blocked my first shawl, after believing for far too long that I was useless. That shawl had mistakes and my gauge was off but I loved (and still do love) wearing it. It was the first step on my way back to some self-belief!
My favorite memory of crafting is seeing the joy on my friends and families’ faces when they realize I hand made them something.
My favorite crafting memory is sitting under a mango tree on my grandmother’s farm in India , listening to the birds chirping and feeling the summer breeze while I crocheted my sister a dress for her First Holy Communion Day! I was 14 then and it all seems like a long, long , safe time ago !
My favorite craft memories is with my mother at a young age, helping me undo my cross stitch knots on floss strands. Memories to cherish.
My favorite crafty memory is the first thing that I ever made knit or crochet was a lap Afghan for my mother was at the end of her life and always chilly on her legs so I made her a lapghan that she could put over her legs when she sat in the chair and she gaveme the biggest smile ever❤❤
Lovely!
What beautiful colorways. Wow. My favorite and earliest crafting memory is of being a little girl and sitting underneath my grandma’s quilting frame while she quilted. She babysat me often while my parents were at work, and she was an avid sewist and quilter. I remember her friends coming over with boxes of small cut pieces – they had a sort of fabric sharing thing going on. She made me a gorgeous quilt on that frame, probably while I was sitting under it pretending to be in a tent. I kept that quilt on my bed all throughout my childhood and teenage years and keep it at my home now as an adult. It’s been used and well loved, but the colors are still bright and it’s held together and stood the test of time. I know her making that for me was such a labor of love, and I wish that she could know the memories I have of being that tiny girl and watching her do her beautiful work.
It’s definitely finishing my first hat that actually fit! and then wearing it 🙂
My favorite crafting memory was not knitting or crocheting. It was when I was about 10 or 12, I painted a toy soldier onto an old fashioned wooden clothespin (the slide on kind, not the spring-clip style). I was so very proud of my creation. I could not wait to add it to the tree at church! I honestly wish I still had that small decoration to put on my own tree every year.
One of my favorite memories is making an afghan for my mom. It was the biggest project I’d ever made and it turned out perfect! It makes me happy every time I see it on her couch.
My favorite crafting memory is many years ago when I was 10 my Great Aunt taught me how to crochet. My very first project was a granny square vest. I have fond memories if my Aunt and the beautiful work she creates. And so happy to be a yarn lover like her.
My very first crafty memory is finger painting in Kindergarten in 1958! So much fun blending the beautiful colors with my fingers. I think I would like doing this again one day. The love of colors is one reason i love to knit with all the beautiful yarns available to me. Stitch by stitch the colors pass through my fingers creating a beautiful hand knitted masterpiece.
My favorite crafting memory is many years ago when I was 10 my Great Aunt taught me how to crochet. My very first project was a granny square vest. I have fond memories if my Aunt and the beautiful work she created. And so happy to be a yarn lover like her.
My mom teaching me to crochet as a kid with yarn I had picked out myself. I didn’t really ‘get’ it then, but went back to it as a teenager and learned to make a scarf! Since then I’ve taught myself more complicated/intricate stitches and patterns, with the help of tutorials and things. Now I can teach my mom new stitches! I also love making things for others and seeing the enjoyment they get from using it!
My favorite memory is when Grandma tried to teach me to knit, then crochet. Was horrible at both – stitches wayyyy too tight. Tried again and again. Result = crocheted for many many years. Then taught myself how to knit (books, magazines – pre-internet/you tube…haha). Now I love both crafts, not enough time in the day, and I feel the need to have allllll the yarn as well!
Teaching my grand daughters to knit, when they were 5 and 8. The little one really took to it. And teaching my son x stitch when he was 6. I still have the little owl that he created, framed on my studio wall. Now he brews craft beer professionally, still crafting!
40 + years ago my mother taught me to knit. My interest waned, but many years later I was inspired to pick ti up again. Not living near my mother, I made do with written instructions for a long-tail caston and couldn’t make it work; even the illustrations were useless. Finally, I checked out a children’s book on knitting from the public library. I was able to follow the instructions and photographs, and suddenly I saw my mother’s hands putting the stitches on the needle. I knew then I was on the right track.
My best crafting memory is when my Mom was on home hospis and I sat beside her bed while I knitted and she tried to knit as best as she could. I kept the blanket and didn’t finish it. It made the blanket more special to me that way.
After crocheting for over 40 years, and honestly thinking that knitting was “the dark side”, my daughter convinced me to take knitting classes at my local yarn store. Karen and Marina were so patient and kind. It was so much fun to learn a new craft with my daughter and make such wonderful new friends in my knitting family!
My favorite crafting memory is wearing the lace wedding shawl I knitted when I got married 4 years ago.
One of my fave memories is when my friend and I knit together while our kiddos play and we have our coffee and chats ❤️
My favorite crafting memory is learning to knit with my mother. When I was young, I really wanted to learn how to knit, so I talked my mom into taking a class with me. For 8 weeks, we would drive to the park where the class was held, several towns away. At the end of the 8 weeks, I had the wonkiest looking scarf youve ever seen, but also a passion for the craft that has only grown in the years since. I will always be grateful to my mom for taking that class with me, and I will always cherish that time we spent together.
My first blocking of a lace shawl – oh wauh – what a difference.
My Nana teaching me how to do all the crafts. She lit the fire in me to be the crafty person!
My mom taught me to knit when I was in high school. In college, I knit a sweater for my boyfriend, paying no attention to gauge! It turned out to be a gorilla sweater!!!! Pretty funny!
Love these colors, Chandi!
Absolutely gorgeous colorways – and they look like spring in the Midwest. Our “Redbud” trees have blossoms in those colors!
So many crafting memories. One is making a shawl for an Internet friend’s mom. It was the first time I’d bought a special yarn from an actual yarn shop because she has sensitive skin. She loved it and still wears it! Also making some stuffed animals for my best friend’s kiddo!
Just the very fact that my Mom taught me when I was young. Embroidery was first, and even my brother had to learn along with us (hence, I taught my son, and he does his own repairs now). We always had multiple projects going! A lifetime of learning, fun, keeping warm, and making others happy!
When I receive a photo of a friend wearing something I knitted for them my heart is full. The time I spend knitting for others is a beautiful time to give thanks fur them and pray for them.
I wanted to learn to sew and was so disappointed when I didn’t get to take sewing class in the 7th grade. So my paternal grandmother stepped in and took me to pick out a pattern and some fabric. I mostly just went by the directions for the pattern but Grandmother would be lounging on the couch near me and I’d take it to her when I got stuck and she’d tell me what to do. That’s when I learned that she made all my aunt’s clothes as a child and did such beautiful work that the other children would beg my aunt to get her mother to make something for them. Grandmother was the only other person in my family that’s creative enough to make things. Many years later, I was able to win the Best in Show ribbon at the county fair and presented it to her and she was thrilled. I was so grateful to have one person in my family that appreciated all the arts and crafts things that I do. She passed away at the ripe old age of 95 more than 20 years ago and I really miss her still. Btw, funny story- starting in her early seventies she’d say “I’ll going to die any time now”. After hearing this for so leant years, I responded “you’ve been saying that for 20 years now”. She burst out laughing that she had been saying that for 20 years and was still going strong!
I have had lots of stops and starts with crafting. So far, knitting has been the most consistent pursuit. A funny crafting memory I have is when I was about 8 or 9, and I convinced myself that I could make mittens. How hard could it be? After several ill-fated attempts, I ended up cutting up pieces of felt, stitching them together and stuffing them with cotton balls. Tah-dah! Mittens. I look forward to knitting some actual mittens that will hold together a bit better than my first pair 🙂
Some of my favorite craft moments are around teaching elementary grade students to knit. Amazing to watch them when they “really” get it.
I love to crochet and give things away! My earliest memory is my grandmother making lace in the shape of tea cups! And one day I might be able to as well.
My favourite memory is of my very patient mother trying to teach my teenage self how to knit somewhat unsuccessfully! Everything I attempted was either tight at on end and loose at the other, or had numerous holes in it from dropped stitches!
Needless-to-say, my mother figured knitting wasn’t my “thing” until one day I went to a craft store and fell in love with a sweater pattern. She took one look at it and told me that if I wanted to attempt to knit it, I was on my own! Never one to back down from a challenge, I decided to try knitting that sweater all by myself (at the age of 16), and I did it!!! My mother encouraged me through the entire process, but she let me learn from my mistakes and I am a better knitter because of that experience. Now I knit for her and all of my friends and family because of the pleasure it brings, and that memory from decades ago always brings me back to the reasons why I love it so much!
My favorite crafting memory is teaching my husband to knit. I’m looking forward to hopefully one day teaching my son, but at 20 months, he’s still a bit young. 🙂
I have been crafting since grade school and have tried sooo many different projects. Lately I’ve been working knitting into every day on useful items and clothing. Loved seeing my grandson playing outside in extremely cold weather this winter wearing the winter hat I made for him last winter. I really enjoy your uplifting e-mails and quotes. Thank you!
Those are simply lovely!!!
I learned how to knit one lazy, hot summer afternoon. I was 7 years old. My mother sharpened two pencils and I used them as knitting needles. She didn’t know how to knit, but we figured it out together. This was the beginning of my lifelong obsession with knitting.
I remember my first pair of slippers I made when I first learned to knit as a child. Such a feeling of purpose and pleasure!
My favorite crafting memory is when I taught a crochet class and we made princess and superhero beanies to donate to a children’s hospital cancer center. It was so much fun watching all of the women grasp the craft and socialize with each other.
My favorite crafting memory is from my first finished article of clothing. It was a dress for my youngest daughter. She was in kindergarten and she adored that dress. Wanted to wear it all the time. Now, at 17, she still brings up that dress from time to time. To know something I made (and not even perfectly) was so loved makes me feel all warm and gooey inside.
Good morning Chandi. My favorite crafting memory is when I accepted the fact that I was able to do projects and that I was good at it. Everybody would tell me that I had talent but to me it was just OK. Following your videos helped me a lot and gave me confidence in trying paterns and undoing over and over when I had mistakes. This makes me very proud. Thank you so much for being the loving person you are.
Finishing my first sweater! It made me feel like a champion
My favorite memory was my first ever knit night after the first ever knitting class. Made a lot of great friends that night!
My favorite crafting memories are teaching my granddaughters to sew, crochet and knit. I enjoyed passing the art of making I learned from previous generations to the newest generation.
I have many memories of crafting allowing me to get immersed and lose myself in the work, starting all the way back to when I was a child sewing doll clothes. I have a space which was a dedicated craft space and though I do not use it as much as I would like, it brings me peace and satisfaction when I do.
I have so many wonderful crafting memories, from teaching myself to crochet to honour my grandmother after she passed away to returning to crochet as soon as I learned I was going to be an aunt. But I think my favourite is from my earlier crochet days, when I used my meagre internship earnings to buy a lot of heavy cotton yarn, my grandfather crafted a hook for me, and I used it to make a huge rug, larger than myself, as a gift for my father. Over 20 years and three residences later he still have it on his living room!
Oh my goodness, those purples and pinks! Lovely!!
I love looking back to when my local knitting group was still new. It’s weird to realize how long we’ve been doing it now (like 15 years or so) because my daughter would come sit with us. She was still a tween, if that, and she’d be quietly knitting in the corner, her expression all focused, while we talked. And every once in a while someone would be like “is she listening?” and she’d look up like “what?” because she had completely zoned out and ignored us.
I sewed machine and hand sewed and beautiful 2 piece lined easter jacket and skirt that all the choir girls wanted to know how much I paid for my outfit… My pleasure has happened so many times since…. I utter the words ‘I MADE IT MYSELF’ … The utter joy is purest music to my ears OVER AND OVER AGAIN… and its 60plus years later and it still is the best sound in this life!!
One of my favorite memories is having my granddaughter sit on my lap and help sew her clown costume for Halloween. She is 20 now.
Hello Chandi,
Your emails, social media posts, patterns and lovely yarns make me smile each and every time I have the pleasure of seeing them daily. I have been following you since you started posting on YouTube when dying yarn in your kitchen, on a white counter, I might add. I love all things yarn, and knitting is my passion. Thank you for sharing you patterns, yarn and love of creating beautiful treasures.
My first knitted hat!
When I was 14, I taught my brother and a few of his friends to crochet. My mom came home from work to find me on the couch and 5 boys sitting on the floor with hooks and yarn. They were only making chains but they were seeing who could make the longest one.
My favorite crafting memory is actually with papercrafts—rubber stamps & ink. I had been living across the country from my family for several years and missing them terribly. My adult daughter, my sister, and her adult daughter all got into cardmaking and scrapbooking telling me I’d love it. I was not so sure. As I always said to them, “you guys are the artistic ones, I’m the smart one!” Well, we finally moved back “home” and the four of us got together and they shared their accumulated crafting supplies and knowledge of the craft and I was hooked! The best part of it was crafting with my sister and our daughters!! <3
Thank you, Chandi, for this awesome opportunity to win so much of your gorgeous yarn! These are the colors of spring flowers! <3
I can remember sitting with my Nana, rolling yarn from skeins, and her then teaching me to crochet and knit at the ripe old age of 7, more than 60 years ago!! Out of 20 cousins, I am the only one that learned from her and keep her memory alive in creating blankets, etc for everyone.
My love of crafting started at age 7 with learning to crochet from a very, very patient friend of my Mom. She would sit for hours while I made very long chains of inconsistent stitches. We had wonderful talks and those times are lodged permanently as lovely flowers in my bouquet of 80 years. So grateful!
When we could still travel the world, I would try and stop at a local yarn store to get a yarnie souvenir. It’s just lovely to have pieces from all over the world in one’s stash, and knit the memories into garments or accessories. 🙂
The first thing I made for someone other than myself was for my son. He loved the show Adventure Time and wanted a hat just like Finn’s. I found a pattern online and clumisly crocheted my way through it. I saw the imperfections every time I looked at it. My son saw the chance to be just like his favorite cartoon character. He wore that hat every day for at least a year. I loved how happy my new-found hobby had made him! 🥰
My favorite crafting memory from when I was a child is sitting with my grandma talking, having fun, and learning to crochet!
Favorite crafting memories include my grandmothers and mom and her friends teaching me to knit, crochet, embroidery, sew and quilt..
My favorite crafting memory/memories were when my Gram was first teaching me how to crochet. She was very ill and bed ridden my whole life but she would save all her energy for after-school when I spent afternoons with her to teach me how to crochet. Everytime I pick up yarn and a hook or needles I think of her.
I have fond memories of doing ceramics as a child, with an elderly neighbor, after school. Sometimes I didn’t want to go home.
What a beautiful May blossom bundle! 🌸 🧶 🌸 A favorite crafting memory is making Christmas snow globes with my youngest daughter and going in to her class and helping all the kids to make one to take home. It has now become a bit of a family Christmas season tradition.
One of my most precious knitting memories is still being made… I am teaching my 5 year old granddaughter to knit. She is determined and we (especially me) are having a GRAND time! Purple is her favorite color, so I had to enter. No matter what, purple yarn is in her future, and perhaps the beautiful red dk for me.
My favorite crafting memories are summers with my grandma, learning to crochet and doing all kinds of different crafts. She passed many, many years ago but I often think of her when I’m crocheting 🙂
My favorite knitting memory was knitting a long lacy Christening gown for my first grandchild. It has since been worn by all three of her brothers.
My favorite craft memory is my son actually asking for a knitted scarf – he had never asked for me to make him anything before.
When I first learned to knit in a class (back in the early 80’s) I made my grandma a pair of slippers. They weren’t the greatest, it was my first project…but she actually wore them. My mom told me recently that my grandma did wear them frequently. That was nice to hear. I still love making things for my family, who are always very appreciative.
I was in 5th grade when I learned to crochet. My first project was a poncho. I would sit on the floor and work on it, and my beloved beagle, Lucky, would curl up on the completed section and sleep while I worked. That poncho was maroon and ecru, quite similar to some of the colors in the giveaway, and I when I finished it, I wore it to school every day.
My favorite crafting memory happened when I was around 16(I’m 52 now). My mother, grandmother, aunt and a cousin all sitting together crocheting. I never put the hook down, and have picked up knitting as well.
My favorite memory is my grandma making me little squares of French applique to practice with.
My favourite memory is making Barbie clothes when I was about 12. I used to make up fashion cards with the outfits, complete with shoes, hats and purses. Now I make them for my granddaughters!
Hello! My favourite crafting memory would be anything with my mom – we’ve taken up a lot of crafts and classes together. She’s an incredible inspiration for me and I love it when we are able to get together and have a crafty day full of creativity (and great food, of course).
My favorite crafting memory is spending a few weeks each summer at my grandmother’s house. She was amazing in that she would crochet without even having to pattern to look at. She taught me how to crochet when I was about 8 yrs old. My first project was a grey and red oval rug. It was so much fun. I still have the dresser scarves she crocheted for me. Sure miss my grandmother.
My favorite memory is me teaching myself to knit for my beautiful daughter when she was a toddler and now all the beautiful items I have crocheted and knitted for many people .. 💜💜 I love the relaxation and calmness it gives me … relieved my mind off evil
Some of my favorite crafting memories are from my early days of crocheting. I would think “Stitch markers? Pfft. How hard can it be? I chain 73, I stitch 73.” Uh, yeah… My grandma has a lovely blanket I made that fits her shoulders then tapers nicely to just cover her feet. A mistake or genius accident? Hmm… 😆
My favorite memory is making The great American Aran Afghan for my dad. He couldn’t believe how intricate it was and that I made it.
My favorite crafting memory is sewing pillows with my Aunt when I was 5. I still have one of the pillows that we made decades ago.
I have many memories, but a few years ago I made each of my grandchildren a blanket for their beds. They picked out the colors they wanted and it was a lot of work but Christmas seeing the looks on their faces and the smiles was worth every stitch. I love to crochet and I also do a little knitting.
My favorite crafting memory is making a keepsake sweater for my daughter’s first Christmas before she was born, and getting to see her wear it on the day.
Ah, my favorite crafting memory, that’s easy. My grandmother was my favorite person, ever, in my life and even though I’m now 69 years old and a great-grandmother myself, I still miss her. She taught me to crochet when I was about ten years old and I remember thinking that it was the most magical thing I had ever done. I crochet every evening and it’s still like she is sitting there with me and guiding me along. I guess maybe it really is magical.
My favorite is when my husband took my crochet stuff out of the trash can after I threw it there in frustration while trying to teach myself 50 years ago.
My mom is a crafter, so I grew up trying all sorts of crafts. One of my favorite memories was when my mom put a hook in my hand and taught me how to chain stitch so I’d leave her alone and let her start dinner! I think I was 5, lol.
My earliest memory goes back to my childhood, when my grandmother was embroidering beautiful patterns using a singer sewing machine. The machine was not electric, you could work on it with both feet, and I didn’t reach the pedal, although I wanted to embroider like my grandmother. Whenever I visited my grandmother, I looked at her works with admiration and checked if my feet reached the pedal – and finally, one fine day I achieved my long-awaited goal – I was able to sit down and learn beautiful art from my wonderful grandmother. She died many years ago, but the memories will stay with me forever
My favorite crafting memory was the time my dog wanted me to stop playing with my yarn and play with him. He walked up, sat on my WIP and laid his head over the needles. The look on his face made for some adorable photos. 🙂
Wow, this is mind blowing! What a stanning hand died yarn and what an incredible giveaway, just crazy! Thank you for the opportunity and good luck everyone!
My favourite memory or collection of memories is teaching my friends how to crochet and watching how excited they are when they finish their first project!
My favourite memory is also one of my first. It’s sitting outside in the shade, on the grass, with the African ladies who lived on the farm where we stayed for a while when I was 5 to 7 years old (in South Africa). They taught me how to embroider and crotchet – with plastic shopping bags cut into strips. Yup! we made our own ‘plarn’ 55 years ago. My mother recently told me that I then taught her how to crotchet 💜
My best crafting memories always center around the smiles I get whenever I gift someone something I’ve made. It makes every project worthwhile.
My favourite crafting memory is sitting on the floor next to my nanny (mom’s mom) as she was knitting. Her hands were quick and agile despite her age. She barely looked at her work, confident in her tension and accurate picking up of her stitches. She made the most beautiful sweaters for all of us. And with left over bits, she made clothes for our Barbies and baby dolls.
Miss you, Nanny.
My favorite memories are of the things I made making people I care about happy! I just love the looks on their faces when they put it on, and when they use the items for the first time!
my favorite crafting memories are teaching others how to quilt and how to knit lace.
and right now, i’ve almost finished creating a unique afghan for my BFF and i’m thrilled with the result … it will always be one of my best memories.
All of my favorite crafting moments were learning at my Mother’s hand. Happy Mother’s Day Mom!
My favorite crafting memory is my maternal grandmother teaching me to crochet. She showed me how to make a granny square. I have been crocheting ever since.
My favorite crafting memory was when I learned how to crochet and my teenage son asked me to make him something. He was so proud of his momma made scarf and he wore it to school everyday. He didn’t think twice about wearing a homemade scarf as a teenager I think that is precious!
Hi Chandi,
Thank you for all your inspiration messages!
My favorite crafting memory is when I made a sweater for my brother in law – when he opened the box, the look on his face was awesome, but even better was how fast he had his old one off and the one I made on — the change was made in the blink of an eye – like one fluid movement, off & on . . . still makes me smile after more than 20 years! He still has the sweater!
Happy Thursday, Chandi! I have so many knitting memories. When I was about 13 or 14 I learned that one of my dad’s coworker’s wife was having a baby. So I prevailed upon my mom for an easy baby hat pattern and appropriate yarn to make it. It was knit flat and seamed (I hadn’t conquered dpns yet) and I actually finished it in pretty decent time for my dad to give to his coworker. That was the first time I had ever knit something for someone else.
3 years ago, before I lost my son I was crocheting products for a flea market and my he (12 at the time) came up and asked to learn. It turned into weeks of lessons in which he became unconcerned about what the other young boys would say. I was really proud of him, we had such a great time bonding and I wish I would have known that we had so little time left together.
Beautiful yarn as always. My favorite crafting memory is when I was home for 6 weeks recovering from surgery. I knit about 45 hats, no two the same pattern. I put all of them in a basket and have a Christmas picture of everyone wearing a hand knit hat.
My absolute favorite is hearing the click clack of my Nana’s needles while she knitted the most amazing sweaters. Love that sound.
My favorite crafting memory is my grandmother teaching me to knit the slippers she made for all her grandchildren each Christmas. She had no pattern, so it was all in her memory. Now I can carry on that tradition.
My favorite crafting memory is teaching my daughters to crochet and craft when they were young. This month’s yarn is gorgeous, as all of your colors, and they would go so nicely with my new pink coat. Thank you for your beautiful vision!
Hi Chandi,
My favorite crafting memory was when I crocheted a filet wall hanging of 3 Wise Men following the Star of Bethlehem for my Aunt Gloria. It was the 3rd one I made and I made it because she remembered the one I did for my Mom after 15 years. Felt someone who remembered something they hadn’t seen in that long deserved one of her own!
My favorite colors this month!! I love knitting with friends!!
A favorite crafting memory is being out of grade school for the summer and sitting outside, working on an embroidery project.
My favorite memory is all the time I spent leaning on the cutting table as Mum sewed school clothes for us kids. Or helping Dad clean up the woodshop at the end of the day (cleaning up sawdust, putting tools away).
I tried crochet as a child. Didn’t take. I tried crochet in my20s. Didn’t take. Then in my 40s, I had spent three years visiting my dad and stepmom, watching her crochet and thinking, I wish I could do that. Then it occurred to me–maybe she could teach me. And she did. And it took. So now, although she says I have surpassed her in my crochet expertise, every stitch I take I owe to her, and if she ever dies (she is 85 and still going strong, so I’m doubtful!), she will never leave me.
My favorite crafting memory is sitting on my Grandma’s couch next to her and crocheting watching tv or just whatever and watching her, and her watching me and just the two of us together ❤ I really miss that special time!
My favorite crafting memories were sitting and watching my great grandmother crochet. She always crocheted baby afghans in the waffle stitch. I am still amazed at how fast she could crochet and that she could do it without looking. She taught me the basics of crochet and after many years of searching I found the exact waffle stitch pattern that she made.
These skeins of yarn are the prettiest of colors! My favorite crafting memories are probably when I was participating in 4H when I was a teenager, not in livestock but in crafting of all kinds. I loved entering my completed items in the county fair and spent most of the time at the fair with different exhibits and competitions. I don’t consider myself super competitive, but I love trying new things and learning. My latest is a project where I spun my yarn in January and knitted a scarf from that yarn in Feb. It’s 60″ x 34″ finished, very proud!
My favorite crafting memory is when my grandmother was teaching me how to knit. I’d make a mistake in my knitting as all beginners do, and I would ask her “Mimi can you fix it?”. I knew it was amazing that she could fix anything I did, but as I’ve gotten older and become much more proficient in my knitting and being able to fix my own mistakes, I look back and realize what a genius she was at knitting and how much I admire her in having the patience and love to tink all my work and fix my mistakes. She was a knowledgeable and beautiful knitter <3
Thinking about favourite crafting memories (and it’s difficult to pinpoint which might be the very best) it seems that all of them are when I make gifts for others, using different mediums (in the past macrame,& cross stitch, currently crochet) & for different reasons (weddings, holidays, chemo support or even just because). Your question really made me stop & think about how grateful I am that I’ve been able to grow creatively whilst showing my love for family & friends. Thank you for that & yet another wonderful giveaway.💐
My favorite crafting memory is making an entrelac blanket for my first grandchild. I was able to think about this child about to enter our lives and infuse every stitch with love and prayers for him.
I don’t have a specific memory, but I lost my mother a couple years ago, and sometimes now when I’m making something I just wish I could tell her about it and show her my finished projects. Some of them are things only a mother could love, and I know that no matter what I make, my mom would’ve acted like she loved it and I am so clever for having made it myself!
I guess my favorite crafting memory would be when I made my very first crocheted hat. Thanks for the giveaway, I love the color of the yarn your giving away and it just so happens to my favorite color too.
My favorite crafting memories as I have a lot of them. And each one is teaching my children my many hobbies and having them enjoy them and give me items that they made with their own hands as gifts.
My Mom and I set out to crochet the entire doll set set (25 dolls!) that my step-daughter had fallen in love with. We crocheted our fingers off that summer! But we shared a lot of chat time and really got to know each other too. We’re best friends forever, partly because of that “summer of dolls”.
I’m a new knitter so my favorite memory is taking picnic blankets to the park and doing socially distanced knitting with a friend 🙂
My favorite crafting memory must be when my Abuelita taught me to crochet. I was very young and couldn’t grasp how to turn, but was happy to crochet one very long chain which turned into a leash for my toy dog. It was a start!
My favorite crafting moment is happening now. My grandchildren are wanting too learn how to knit and crochet. These colors speak of Spring pink blossoms to ripe fruits of Summer.
Favorite! My sister challenged me to use a Hardanger embroidery design for the front panel of my wedding dress. Little did she know that she would complete TWO of the same panels with colored linen, threads, silk ribbon embroidery and colored beads. Her panels adorned the dresses for herself and her daughter, who were in my wedding party.
My favourite crafting memory is when I finished crocheting Harry Potter blankets for the daughters’ birthdays. They were so excited, and I was so happy to finally have them finished.
Learning how to crochet when I was in grade school from a kind lady at our church: it was a calm refuge away from my father and brothers.
This is my favorite pile of fiber arts goodness I’ve seen yet since discovering your website and you tube videos. You make learning to knit and crochet so much easier. The favorite part of my crafting memories is doing it with friends or if alone- making something for someone I love and hold dear. My best friend lives aways a way and we do craft shopping together and making. Every time I use a craft item or take out a project it makes me think of her and just makes me feel happy.
My favorite crafting memory is learning to knit with my uncle at about age eight. My sister an I knitted little squares and gifted them proudly to our Great-grandmother. She saved them and they were returned to us upon her passing many years later.
I remember my Nanna making doilies. She crocheted really fast. I have a couple of her hooks
They are so tiny
Thank you so much Chandi! What a gorgeous giveaway! I have so many crafting memories, I think most are my favorites. The ones I really love are the times we connect with strangers over our passion for knitting, sewing, painting, whatever. Its as if we share a secret bond when we realize the other person speaks that same ‘fiber’ or creative language! A simple question like “Oh, did you make that?” can turn into a great exchange of smiles, ideas and just feeling happy.
I just finished a sweater for my sister. It is the first sweater I have knit for her. She finds it hard to find cloths that fit her well. She was so thrilled with how well the sweater fit her. I love it when people I knit for are so knit worthy!
My favorite crafting memory was designing my daughter’s baby blanket while I was still pregnant with her. I took that blanket with me to the hospital to wrap her in after she was born.
My favorite crochet memory is from this past February; I found a hook in the house, then some yarn. I looked online for a heart pattern (or 6). I made a few and wasn’t all that impressed but then I found that one more and showed my family how I got better. Then I found a two color pattern, and when I finished that one I decided, “Yes, this is a thing I can have some fun with!” It turns out that looking at yarn online is nearly as much fun as crocheting with it, and your yarn is beautiful. Someday I am going to make your Lily shawl. Thank you for your encouraging emails as well. Stay safe
Some of my favorite craft times took place at the Heart of Cross Stitch and Spirit of Cross Stitch Festivals.
LOVE all your yarn and the colors are so inviting. For me the best is finishing a project and learning new techniques. There aren’t many crafts I haven’t tried!
My favorite crafting memory is with my husband and best friends, we were all preparing garbs for a reenacment event. My appartment was a mess because of all the fabric, trim and yarn all around! But, we did made an impact as the best group for our costume! I miss so much crafting with my friends and events!
My favorite memory is very recent. I surprised a dear friends mother with a shawl that I recently finished and was very proud of. She was beyond excited and I don’t think its left her shoulders.
It changes from time to time, but always seems to involve needles and fiber of some sort, knitting, crocheting, stitching, quilting, hard to pick just one. Learning a new technique…
I’m not really sure I have a favourite craft memory. Being the only left-hander in the immediate family means I often have to riddle crafty things out on my own.
If I have to choose one, I guess it would be giving my theater director (who also taught basic jewelry making) a chainmallie and stone bracelet as a little extra to her end of production gift since her birthday was also show night that year.
Lovely colors! I don’t have a “favorite crafting memory”. Thanks for another grand giveaway!
My best memory isn’t really something I actually remember (if that makes any sense at all). It’s from when I was a kid and my mom was making a log cabin quilt for me. I love the looks of it so much that she decided to show me how to make a log cabin square, and I quilted that little square by her side. We turned it into a little pillow that she encouraged me to enter into the county fair, and it won a blue ribbon (likely since most kids my age were entering crafts that we made with finger paint or whatnot). Every time I look at the pillow now, I smile and “remember” working with mom to make it. <3
My favorite crafting memory is making all the signs and wedding party gifts for my daughter’s wedding!
These yarns are gorgeous!!! I have loved crafting in many forms all of my life. Picking a fave is difficult. I remember hoarding the Highlights magazine craft pages, and pestering my mom to help me acquire the materials. I learned to crochet and later knit around age 8 from my Gram. She was so patient. I still have the needles and hook she gave me to learn, and her old knitting bag. I love knitting, not so much crocheting, and paper crafts – making journals and scrapbooking. Whatever the mood of the day dictates, it’s my relaxation! Thank you, Chandi, for your beautiful yarns- I’ll never use acrylic yarn again! -great patterns, and inspiring emails!
My favorite crafting memory – one year I wasn’t working in the late fall so I made Christmas gifts for my whole family–a knitted cardigan sweater for my grandmother, hats and mittens for my sisters and mom, a down vest and gaiters from a kit for my dad… It was the best feeling ever to have handmade gifts to give!
My favourite crafting memory would be making a sock monkey in my middle school fashion class. I loved that class because it was a quiet space for me to destress during school.
My favorite crafting memory is learning to knit from a stranger on a long train ride nearly 60 years ago. That kind old woman is surely long gone. I had no further contact but she had sparked a lifetime of joy for me.
I sew, knit, crochet, and stitch. I have many wonderful crafting memories that its hard to pick a favorite so I’ll choose my first. I remember finding my moms sewing tin. I was little and naive to the notion that there would be anything but crispy, sweet, buttery cookies in that tin. I discovered an array of needles & brightly colored thread. I taught myself to sew! My dolls had a lot of clothes fashioned from scraps of fabric. That hunt for a sweet snack sparked my love of crafting & art!
My favourite crafting memory is of how I learnt crocheting . coincidentally ,I found a crochet hook in my mother’s knitting bag .I took it out and was after my mother to teach me .she was just knowing how to chain .I kept insisting and then bought me a book on it .she also subscribed to Burda Anna ,for me to do new designs .since then it’s been a wonderful journey ….journey full of love with yarn and crochet hook ❤️❤️❤️
I love that my grandmother always encouraged me to be crafty. She was a knitter who taught me to knit. While it wasn’t my mother’s cup of tea, it was something that I could share with my grandmother and of the 10 granddaughters that she had, I am the only knitter in the bunch.
Not yarn related, but one of my favorite crafting memories was sitting with my 85 year old great-grandmother while she taught me to make pine needle baskets. Another was watching my grandmother crochet incredibly delicate lace tablecloths. So glad I had that summer with her!
My favorite crafting memory is when I finished my first sweater.
Mine are all favourite memories. Every time I sit to knit, crochet or sew, I feel so happy, relaxed and blessed that I have the skills to make and create with my hands. It also gives me assurance that I have made something that will last for many years to come. I do get more pleasure though from making for someone else. Thank you Chandi – these yarns look amazing.
My favourite crafting memory is the day I discovered that I could actually crochet. I’d been knitting a dishcloth as a gift and the pattern said to crochet around the edge – panic I’d never managed to crack the crochet code and I’d tried. This time I found the perfect you tube video and I haven’t looked back since. The next thing I crocheted was a blanket as part of a CAL! Hooked! 🙂
My favourite crafting memory is wearing the lace trimmed Calico camisole that I made myself on my grandmother’s Pfaff treadle sewing machine. My Nanna taught me to use this machine when I was about 12.
My current favorite (because I know there are more to come) is when I was crocheting a baby blanket for a friend and my daughter who was two at the time would try to play with my working yarn, so to keep her from pulling my stitches out, I gave her a small ball from my stash and an extra hook which she then stuck in the ball like a fork in spaghetti, pulled it out with a massive tangle and exclaimed with pride “see what I did? It’s perfect!”
My favorite crafting memories share the same theme — I’m at a point in a knitting project where I am sure I will NEVER get it right, then after I’ve put it down in defeat and despair, it comes to me . . . usually in the middle of the night, but always when I’m not thinking about my hopeless project . . . and, I see clearly how to make it work. And, it does!
Knit on!
–Becky
My favorite memory is my my grandmother teaching me how to knit a purple scarf as a kid! It was too short and curled at the edges because I was impatient to finish it, but the color was beautiful.
What a gorgeous giveaway! It makes me swoon! I don’t have one favorite memory, but love the feeling of starting a project and imagining how the recipient will feel when I give it to them.
When my brother and I were kids, my mom used to take us to the fabric store and have us look through pattern books to choose our Halloween costumes. She put a lot of time and effort into making them, and they blew my friends’ store-bought costumes out of the water. I didn’t learn to sew until almost 30 years later, but I think I got my love of fiber crafts from my Mom. Next time we’re able to get together, I’m going to teach her how to knit. 🙂
My favorite memory is my mom reading aloud to my sisters and I in the evenings. We all pulled out whatever project we were working on and listened as we did various projects with yarn, cross stitch, and quilting.
Hi Chandi:
What gorgeous, inspiring colors, and how generous of you to create a Giveaway. Your question also made me think. Though I love knitting and knit every day, I honestly cannot say that learning to knit was a joy, as I remember many tears and large holes! And though I have many happy memories of visiting my sister on the beautiful, magical Isle of Skye and attending craft groups with her friends who spin, knit, crochet and quilt, I think my best memory is going with her for a lesson from a lovely potter, who taught us both so patiently how to use the potter’s wheel, and we both managed to create a presentable small bowl. That was an unimaginable triumph.
Too many favorite memories – my Grandma taught me to crochet when I was around 7-8 years old & I made clothes for my Barbie doll; I remember this sparkly black skirt I made for my doll. It was one of my favorite things for her to wear. But then I forgot about crocheting for over 20 years before picking it back up. Since then, everything I make is “my favorite!” until I finish the next one. 😂
My favorite crafting memory was when someone spotted me knitting in public. She stopped to ask me what I was making and started telling me about some of her favorite family members who knitted and crocheted. She smiled at those memories being brought up and when we parted she seemed so much more content and happy.
My favorite crafting memory is from 18 years ago when I was pregnant with my son and me and my mom bought cross stitch kits and made a bib and a counted cross stitch kit that had a picture with a baby and a bear with space to add name and day of birth at the bottom. Of course I left the piece unfinished until he was born to add his birthday.
My favorite crafting memory is spending the last 3 days of Feb 2020 with 53 new and old friends at a retreat in a beach hotel in CannonBeach, Or. it was glorious soaking up all that inspiration.
It was especially memorable because the next day COVID restrictions went into place and we have not had an in person meeting or retreat since. Such a sweet memory to hold on to until we can meet in person again.
Wow! These colors are absolutely gorgeous! I think my favorite crafting memory is when I finished knitting my first sweater. It was not perfect, but I felt so happy to be able to expand my knitting skills beyond scarfs.
Favorite crafting memory: My mom taught me to crochet when I was 12 (over 40 years ago!) I wasn’t terribly interested, though, and didn’t pick it back up until about 10 or 11 years ago. By the time I started again, my mom was suffering from early onset Alzheimer’s. In the spring of 2013, mom was mostly non verbal and that was so hard. I was visiting her in Assisted Living and showed her photos of one of my beginner scarves I had just made. She looked at it, gave me a huge smile and as clear as a bell said, “Beth! It’s beautiful! I’m so proud of you.” Through my sobbing, I realized how connected we were at that very moment – connected because we both had a love for crochet. Mom passed away several months later at age 71. That memory means so much to me!
What a memory. 💜
What a beautiful moment and precious memory to treasure always!
I learned to crochet at 20. I made a scarf and then I made a king size afghan for my parents for Christmas. My dad was so proud of me
The first crafting memory that came to mind was when I tried to knit my first colourwork sweater.
I was ten years old and had just learned how to knit and purl, but I saw an amazing alphabet sweater and I decided that I had to knit it.
It didn’t turn out to be what I expected as my tension was a total mess at the time, so I didn’t even finished it. Although I didn’t frog it either. Instead, my baby doll got a new blanket!!!
My journey started when I was around 8 yrs old. My grandma took a wonder bread wrapper and cut it up into a long strip and taught me to crochet a floor mat. I still have that needle. I have continued my journey and still love to crochet
My favorite crafting memory is of my dad teaching me how to embroider. He had 2 older sisters and HAD to learn/do everything they did, so he learned to embroider and was quite good at it! I still have a precious table doily he crocheted which is priceless since he passed away 16 years ago unexpectedly. I love having such precious memories!
My favorite crafting memory is learning to crochet from my grandma
My favorite crafting memory is my mom teaching me to knit just like her mom taught her.
My favourite hilarious crafting memory: when I was 18, I crocheted a long dress and wore it to a Christmas office party. I was so proud of my achievement. However, I did not block the dress. To my horror ( you know what it’s like when you’re young), the dress got longer and longer and longer! By the end of the night, I think it was a foot longer and I was tripping over it!
Gorgeous colours. They are calling my name. Be still my beating heart!
I remember first learning how to knit with my grandmother. She was so patient and lovely.
not so much a memory but touched when I see my grandchildren wearing thing I have crocheted for them. Also I love that one of my 8 yr old granddaughters has asked me to teach her how to crochet, so I’m hoping this pandemic will hurry up and leave so I can get to go visit and teach her (she lives in Connecticut and I live in Rhode Island)
I think I have 2 good memories, learned to knit & crochet at a very early age… maybe 5-6
When I was 9, I was crocheting & selling vests & the most popular girl in class wanted one!! Then she had me make one for her mother.
2nd memory is funny…..I think I was a jr in high school & knitted myself a sweater….cowl neck, elbow length ribbed sleeves, ribbed body, stockinette chest, was done in a brn/yellow/orange/white/rust varigated…… .pooled into a gorgeous “sunset” on the chest & back……..put it on, fit PERFECTLY!!! ripped it right back off……… it was wool & I was allergic….. it was way back when labels weren’t that clear ,it only said ‘mixed fibers’…….. wrong mix!!!
I’m so happy that natural fibers are treated better now, because many of the superwashes & other animal fibers I CAN wear now, mostly shawls & wraps….(don’t do well with “rustic” & non-superwash)
these colors are stunning !!
My favorite crafting memory is when I taught my mother-in-law and sister-in -law how to macramé. We all made Easter bunnies to hang on the front door.
A favorite memory is my maternal grandmother teaching me to both knit and crochet. I loved watching her crochet lovely laces with that tiny thread and creating everything from Barbie clothes and pillowcase trim to entire bedspreads.
Beautiful purples! One of my favorite crafting memories is a coworker who opened her home to us for some after-work crafting potlucks. This friend is no longer with us, but the sweet memory is.
One of my many favorite crafty memories came when my young daughter was watching a knitting show with me. They were demonstrating cables. My daughter turned to me and said, “Is that all? I thought it would be hard!” (Or something like that.) I couldn’t believe I’d heard that. We’ve done a lot of crafting since then, both separately and together. Thank you for sparking this train of thoughts. We all need to look back on the benefits and joys of our lives.
No one specific memory. I crochet for charity, any charity. Lap robes, baby blankets, shawls, booties, pet blankets, etc., the memories of making these items
give me so much pleasure knowing someone is being kept warm, while I get the enjoyment of keeping my hands busy instead of sitting idle.
When I was about 10 yrs old in late 70s, I asked my non-crafting mother to take me to a hardebashery store where I picked up my 1st crochet hook and a ball of yarn. It was a Japanese Tulip brand hook and an orange coloured yarn. It was my classmate who taught me how to do chain and double crochet.
I have so many good crafting memories, the most recent one was when I finally realised that I could take my knitting with me and knit in public, that weveryone wouldn’t think I was weird. I have en knit during work meeting especially the ones that cause me to really nervous.
My favourite crafting memory is of spending the afternoon of Christmas eve 2016 in a knitting group with friends on a croft on the Isle of Skye. We had exchanged cards and gifts, sampled the home baking, and had just got our knitting out and onto our second pot of tea, when I glanced up and saw four long ears go past the window. It took a moment to process what I had seen, then realised what it meant…. The donkeys had escaped! Down went everyone’s knitting, and we all raced outside to give chase. By that time they had made it off croft and were heading off down the road to freedom. It took all four of us, plus two passing motorists to catch them and herd them back to their paddock. We staggered back into the cabin, laughing and breathless, with the frostiness of the winter air clinging to our clothes. It took a while, and a lot of tea and cake to warm up again…. but soon the needles were clicking again in harmony and companionship. The fellowship which we shared in that group meant a lot to all of us…. and the memory of that afternoon of gifts and celebration (and the donkeys) is still so vivid.
Crocheting with your yarns has gotten me through the pandemic so far. That’s a living memory. Whatever comes next, I’ll never forget this.
My favorite crafting memory is of my grandmother teaching me to crochet using this awesome “3D” hot pad/trivet pattern. We were moving overseas and I only managed to do the first half. When we got to our destination, I was working on it one day but couldn’t figure out the second part. A young lady offered to help and we worked it out together. My mother still uses that hot pad! Just a few years ago my grandmother passed away and I got her sewing box. Lo and behold, the original pattern was in it 🙂
Learning to knit with my nursing/physician group. Such patient teachers…
As with all your yarns, this is beautiful. I think my favorite memory is spending time with my mom as she attempted to teach me to crochet. I never took to it like I did knitting (which she also started me on). The first time I actually spent money on yarn I was so afraid of making a mistake, my mom actually made a scarf for me. I did eventually overcome that fear and was able to knit her a pair of socks before she passed. She was an incredibly talented person and crocheted beautifully intricate patterns of which I was blessed to often receive. Here’s to all the talented mentors!
I love to see someone open a gift I’ve made for them. The joy and surprise on their face is just so wonderful to see. I thank God that my Grandmother lived long enough to teach me to crochet. She tried to teach me to knit (that didn’t quite take) and wanted to teach me to tat as well. Unfortunately, the Lord took her home to be with Him before that happened. I’m still crocheting more that 50 years later.
One of my favorite crafting memory has to to be knitting a wedding shawl for my oldest nephew’s bride to be and presenting it to her before the wedding. Another favorite memory was making Christmas presents for my in laws a few years ago. I made slipper socks for a couple of them and they were a big hit, I’m still getting orders for more pairs of slipper socks as they have worn them out. Other family members now want a pair as well!
My Nana spent years off and on when I was a kid trying to teach me to knit. Every time was a fail until I was having my first child and I finally got it. Not sure to this day how or why but I . And I have been knitting for 40 years now. And am still loving it. I have 5 children and 4 grand kids now and they all get knitted and crocheted items from socks to blankets.
I really like purple and there’s such a selection. I remember visiting my grand mother and she is the one who taught me to crochet and I was left handed. Another memory in home economic class when I first knitted and made a sweater which was too big. That discouraged me from knitting, but as I got older I picked it up again. so now I can do both. Have 5 projects going knitting and crocheting,
Favorite memory is my mom teaching
me and my best friend to crochet on a long road trip. We made the cutest baby booties.
I really like purples. My memory was in Jr. high school I took a Home economics class in knitting Made a sweater and it was way to big. This was a discouragement to me at that time to continue. But, later in life I picked it up again. My grand mother taught me how to crochet and I am left handed. So now I do both, as a matter of fact have five WIPS.
My favorite crafting memory will always be cuddling with my grandma as a very little girl learning 1st how to crochet and then a year later, to knit. She was such a patient teacher and we made so many great memories together with our needles and hooks.
Just once, my mom sat with my sisters and me, when I must have been about four years old, and drew cherry blossoms on a square of paper and folded it into an origami ‘balloon.’ It was amazingly pretty, and she didn’t want us to play with it, because we would have smeared the pastel.
My favourite memory is having my daughter (a teacher in Tokyo) show me via messenger her latest sewing project, using old kimono she bought at market. I helped both my daughters to learn to create, with skills I learnt from my Grandmother, encouraged by my mother. I love the sense of continuity, handcraft, knitting, crochet and sewing are part of our family!
One of my favorite crafting memories is when my best friend and I decided to learn to crochet by each making the same sweater pattern, which was rated for “intermediate to advanced” level skills. Many froggings later, we both finished, and wore, our first project sweaters/
My favorite memory of crafting was sitting with my neighbor and her two daughters for their craft sessions. She was so patient teaching a teen to sew, crochet and knit. I just loved her.
So many crafting memories. One is when I learnt to crochet (Mum taught me), I found a pattern for a small bear and though it didn’t look exactly like the pattern, I made the bear and I still have it. I love all kinds of craft though, I love knitting the most and have knit some gorgeous shawls my favourite has beading which was so much easier than I imagined. I also recently learnt to weave.
I remember crafting a lot with my aunt. She taught me granny squares, but we also made things with Pringles cans and other household items. We were always crafting something
Hello,
my favorite crafting memory is when I,ve learned to make my first sock.
My favourite crafting memory is making stuffed toys for my family. They all loved them.
Completing my first knitting project, a sampler blanket. I had wanted to learn to knit and fjnally figured it out. I had to mature in my Crochet and Tunisian before I understood how to do it.
My favourite crafting memory is when recently I was gifted some beautiful hand dyed roving and I spun it up and knitted a lace shawl for my Mum who lives 3000 kms away. It’s my favourite memory because she said “It’s so beautiful, it makes me want to cry!”
My favorite memory of crafting is not yarn related. But here goes, I like to make quilts and I made a quilt for my daughter’s sister-in-law’s son when he was born. Well, now he is older and that baby quilt is too small for him so the in-law asked my daughter if I could make him a new one. Because he can only sleep with that quilt and no other blanket will do. Whether it’s for naps or to go to sleep at night no matter the weather that is the one he uses. I am so happy to know that something I made was so loved and cherished.
There are many good crafting memories, but one of the best happened recently. My niece shared on Facebook a picture of her daughter’s bed – covered with a blanket I had made over 20 years ago for my niece! Then in the comment section, a nephew shared a picture of another blanket I made for his father (my former brother-in-law) and that had been past to him! I love that the next generation in our family appreciate the things I have made.
I remember my grandmother teaching me to crochet when I was 10 years old. We would sit outside in lawn chairs and she would patiently go over every stitch I messed up. And that was every single stitch! With a lot of frogging, her instructions finally clicked and I’ve been crocheting ever since. It has been a long journey. Yet I always picture my grandma and the love she had of the craft and feel I’m blessed.
First of all this is a beautiful stack of yarn to add to my stash-I can hope I win. Whomever wins will be one lucky person.
My first ‘crafting’ memories is of my grandmother (Maw-Maw) teaching me how to sew yo-yo’s by hand and I made a doll bed quilt out of them. Then she taught me how to quilt that same summer-74 years ago now. Over the years Mom taught me to use the sewing machine and by the time I was 12 I was making my own clothes. She also taught me to embroider and to knit. I think I was born with some sort of needle in my hand becase I have literally done most of the things that you can do with any kind of needle!!
My favorite memory is crocheting a blanket for my son
When he was born. And recently knitting a sweater for my daughter. So much fun. Y felicidades Chandi, tu trabajo es espectacular!!!! Gracias !!!!🌻
Some of my favorite crocheting memories have been crocheting with friends and family. Even during Covid we found a way to be together using Facetime. It wasn’t the same as face to face but it did the trick.
My favorite crafting memory is when my older sister taught me how to crochet.
My Mother crochet all the time and taught me, I crochet for years then quit now I am trying to make all my Grandkids each a blanket. (10)
So many memories! I made my husband a scarf when we first met (lucky it wasn’t a scarf!). I used stockinette all the way down and, of course, it turned into a long, bright blue sausage!!! We’re celebrating 40 years of marriage next month❤
Lots of favorite times over the years from crafting with my mom and four sisters, then my nephew and 4 nieces and now their kids! Blessed with lots of love and laughter!💕
Like so many others, one of my fondest memories is of the young lady who taught me to knit. She made it so very simple and I’ve been knitting ever since (about 20 years now).
My favorite memory was when I succeeded in knitting my first complex shawl that I gifted my sister in law! Took me six months and a lot of watching youtube videos to understand some of the stitches, but I got her done.
My favorite crafting memory was when I was attempting to teach my mom, sister, and cousin how to crochet for the first time, but there had been too much wine involved and none of us really accomplished anything. We laughed so much that night. My mom kept saying “What?” and my sister went off and put made-up stitches wherever she wanted. My cousin was super focused and caught on pretty quick though. It was a rare night where all of us got together from different states and tried to have a common hobby.
I have a favorite crafting memory that involves YOU Chandi! You were still living in Alaska and looking for color inspiration for your yarn. I sent in a photo of the purple and blue hydrangeas that grow in our yard (I am an avid gardener). You dyed the perfect color of yarn to match the flowers, and then were kind enough to send me a skein of the color that my photograph had inspired. So although it isn’t about making something, it is about creativity and inspiration and caring.
Lauri, that is amazing! I remember that beautiful photo!
My favorite crafting memory is waking up in the middle of the night and smelling my mom working on ceramics, it was always exciting to wake up those next mornings and finding what was new on the counter. Swimming fish, chess players, and many other beautiful creations.
My favourite crafting memory is doing a wet felting course with my best friend. It was a hoot and we were very proud of the felt vessels we made!
A favorite memory is making a “digger” sweater for my grandson when he was 4. And every time he saw it he had to wear it! Love the May colors!
Any crafting time with my grandma is a good memory. We used to paint shirts, paint ceramics, and sew plastic canvas. She was always keeping us kids (4 of us girls) busy with one project or another.
My favorite crafting memory is making blankets and beanies for my first grandson.
My favorite crafting memories are sit with my mom while we knit or crochet.
My favorite crafting memory was with my kids. We didn’t have a lot of money for Christmas decorations and my kids were 8 and 6 at the time. I showed them how to make snowflakes with paper and scissors. Then we decorated them with glue and glitter and hung them on the ceiling. I still have them to this date and use them every year. They are over 30 years old now.
My favorite crafting memory is baking bread with my mom at a church for Easter. It was a class the church held to not only teach a valuable skill, but also gives parents and their children quality time together. My mother was the most patient person I know… and also the most forgiving. I still have the bread pan we used together almost 35 years ago.
Hard to choose… but I have really fond memories of participating as a spinner in a sheep to shawl demonstration at the county fair when I was in high school. I was a pretty new spinner, but my teacher was in charge of the demonstration and it was so cool to be a part of the process and rub shoulders with some great artisans.
My favorite crafting memory is of a neighbor who taught me to knit as a young girl. My first project was knitting a shawl for my doll!
Hi Chandi 🙂 First a big Thank You for this chance to win such gorgeuos yarn 😀 I have several favorite crafting memories, but there is one that stands out: When I was a child, around 8-9 years old, my grandmother taught me how to crochet. I remember how excited I was to learn to do the craft she mastered and how frustrated I got when my stitches wasn’t as even and perfect as hers. Every childhood summer (she lived far away so we could only visit her once a year) we would sit together in the evenings and crochet so I could practice. She had so many patterns from old magazines but since I was an impatient child I only made small things such as small table cloths and pothholders (wanted to see the finished results as soon as possible), but I remember how fun it was. The dream was to make the things my grandmother made. Curtains, bed covers, big table cloths, etc.
Today I have made all those things and still going, and yes my stitches are now as even and perfect as my grandmother’s were 🙂 Unfortunately my grandmother passed away in 2014 so I can no longer sit and crochet with her, but everytime I pick up the yarn and hook I can feel that she is with me just like during those summer evenings in my childhood.
She lives on in every stitch I make 🙂
One of my favorite crafting memories was when I gifted my mother a crocheted afghan that I made for her. It was made with lots of small granny squares in white, yellow and orange. She loved it.
One of my favorite crafting memories is of knitting the baby blanket that both of my children used. I’ve been a knitter since I was a little girl, but the blanket was so special became it was for my baby.
My favorite or most beneficial crafting memory comes from a learning experience at a department store where I worked in the dry goods department. I was a teenager. We were encouraged to do handwork when not working with customers. I taught myself to knit using an instruction booklet. I was knitting when one of the experienced women pulled me aside and told me I was doing it wrong. She taught me to knit correctly, which after years of using her method, I learned was Continental knitting. I don’t even remember the way I was knitting previously. It was a real gift she gave me. And after close to 45 years, I can say her lesson has really paid off.
my favorite crafting memory is when i made a troll doll a dress
My favorite memory of my Grandmothers crocheted beautiful dollies on her tables all around the house and she would try to teach me how to do them.
My favorite crafting memory was when I had first learned of crafting from my mom. I was four and it was cross stitch. I was so proud of completing my first piece: a stuffed bear with a little sailboat.
My most treasured crafting memory is watching my great aunt Jennie quilt. I continue to sleep under one of her “working” quilts she made some 60+ years ago. I was gifted with several of her final quilt tops and look forward to completing those, passing down the treasure to my grandchildren. The quiet rhythm of her quilting inspired me to cross stitch, quilt and now knit. I thoroughly enjoy your videos and patterns.
My favorite caring memory is making a cowl for my sister. It was the Coffee Lovers Cowl and I finished it during the pandemic. I was just so proud of myself since it was my first full needle knitting project!
My favourite crafting memory was actually what someone did for me. True story. When I was an undergrad in university, I was in dire financial straits as my father had suffered a huge income drop due to the Asian financial crisis. I only shared this worry with my closest friends. When I found out there was a free craft flea market to be held on campus, I signed up for it to sell my handmade craft items. I also told one of my best friends, Grace, who is also a crafter, about the flea market so she could set up a stall too. For the flea market, I was selling paper filigree cards, and she was selling wire bookmarks that she had designed herself.
At the end of the flea market neither of us had made many sales. We had earned less than $20 each. But then she came up to me and gave me all the money she had earned, saying, “It isn’t much, but I hope it helps you.” I was so touched by it. It has been over a decade and a half now, and I still remember her kindness.
My favorite memory would be, sitting in front of my mom while she taught me to crochet. My mom was left handed and I am right handed so it was perfect ! I made a pink square that day, wish I had keeper up with it .
My favorite memory was when I finished my first wearable this year. It was a struggle, but I made it through it and am making my 3rd wearable now, with a few more in mind.
My favorite crafting memory was my right-handed grandmother teaching me, a lefty, to crochet.
Fantastic colors ❤
My favourite crafting memory is learning from a grandmother while I volunteered at a residential home for the elderly. The grandmother and I became very close friends while she taught me how to knit with her knitting needles. She was very incredibly patient with me even when I felt like giving up. She died of a sudden stroke and I miss her dearly. I still use her knitting needles as they always bring happy memories ❤
💕
The first I crocheted a scarf reading a pattern . It was “Sierra” scarf and I absolutely love it
I’ve thought many times of my grandmother sitting in her old ugly rocking chair crocheting or knitting away. I have the chair now and it brings back so many memories of running to that chair with questions. ,
I have only been crocheting for about 5 months now. I used to crochet when my eldest was young, I picked it back up to see what I could do. My favorite memory so far is me trying to teach my daughter and niece how to crochet after doing it for two months. They didn’t stick with it but it helped them to see that they could do something other than watching tv.
I stumbled across your YouTube page whilst looking for a pattern to make for my son’s Teacher I ended up buying your lily Shawl pattern and making this for his art teacher ❤️
I will always remember sitting out by the pool with my grandmother while she was teaching me to knit and crochet.
Hello
My favorite craft memory is learning how to knit at age 54 a year ago for the first time. I have always wanted to learn but raised my kids first, worked extremely. Etc. Now I am very thankful for that 1st project of a baby hat.. love knitting!!! 🧶
Thank you for such beautiful colours, purple is my favourite Crafting memory was my first pair of socks on dpn’s written pattern and no video tutorial. So proud of my self.
Amazing colour palette, not one I wouldn’t use. My favourite memory would have to be teaching my grand children how to crotchet. They are young but interested in learning and love colour in their lives.
My favorite crafting memory comes from my childhood. My grandmother used to hold a “girl camp” in the summer and all the aunts and daughters would spend a week at my grandmothers farm crafting and enjoying nature. We lost her last year to lung cancer so these memories are so precious as it is how she lives on through us.
💜
My favorite crafting memory was learning how to knit as a child. Not the easiest thing either as I am left handed and the person teaching me was right handed. I still remember trying to do everything opposite and it not working out.
My favorite crafting memory is learning to crochet with my mom’s best friend since kindergarten after my mom died. She was so patient with my clumsy hooking, I wasn’t sure I’d ever get the hang of it. But although my crocheting left much to the imagination, we sat there for hours talking about my mom; both of us learning so much more about the woman we had loved our whole lives. And eventually I got the hang of crocheting and have thought about that day so many times
Hi Chandi!
Lovely question!
Made me go back in time when I’d just learnt how to crochet from my mom. It was a magical experience! And the first thing I made was an inch n half wide lace border for her because she often said she never wore a saree petticoat without a lace in her younger days. But due to family responsibilities she’d to leave crocheting. After I finished making I told her to put it on her petticoat and she said no this one’s for you. For my wedding she put it on my saree petticoat for me to wear! After almost twenty years I finally took up crocheting again and made a whole 9 yards lace for her saree this time. She was so happy and that’s all I wanted. She treasures it and wears it occasionally!!!
What more could I ask for?
💕
My favourite memory is from first grade primary school when we were taught knitting and I made my first project, a hat. It was full of holes and mistakes but it was mine and I proudly wore it whole year.
My favorite crafting memory is with my grandmother. My sister and I would go to spend a couple of weeks with Nana. A highlight on one of our first days would always be a trip to the store to pick out a project. I remember one time my sister picked out an embroidery project that needed a hoop. I was so jealous because she looked like she was right out of Little Women working on her sampler.
I think my favorite memory was giving my mother a queen sized corner to corner wildflower blanket that I spent a year making for her! So satisfying to watch her open it and spread it all out! It’s on her bed now.
My favorite memory is my mamaw teaching me how to crochet…lol. That was fun it was about 1984 I was 13 and had no attention span but we were both determined..
My favourite rafting memory is when I made my first shawl, by following a pattern not a video tutorial, I’m quite new to crochet so reading a pattern was a big achievement for me😊
My favorite crafting memory is the first cabled pullover sweater that I knit for my husband many, many years ago.
My favorite crafting memory is sitting with my Nan in her living room while she taught me to chain, and double crochet who would have thought it would become a passion in my life
I think it’s the day when, while reading a blog on bookbinding, I suddenly thought, “Hey, I think I can make this”, got up and scrounged through my stuff to put together enough scraps to make a practice hand-bound book. That was the beginning of many years of learning and enjoying crafting.
One of my first crafting memories doesn’t involve crochet. My mom would go to Lee Ward’s in Indy to get cross stitch kits. One time she took my sister and I and we were allowed to pick anything we wanted. I picked a ceramic turtle bank paint kit. It was the first real craft I did. That was in 1980. Sadly 10 yrs later when my stuff was packed up by the military to send to my first station it got crushed to dust! But that got me started on all kinds of crafts. Later on that year when I missed the bus to go home I discovered one of the 5th grade math teachers would have students go to her classroom and she taught crochet. 🙂
My favorite crafting memory was the first baby blanket I made for a friend. I got so many compliments and couldn’t believe people actually appreciated my work.
My first crafting memories are of my mother running the chuck Christmas bazaar. She made tons of things as well as collected all the stuff that everyone else made so our house had ALL THE CRAFT THINGS for weeks. It was so neat to see all the fun and creative things people made.
My favorite crafting memory was knitting my first sweater – watching it take shap and then wearing it for the first time!
My favorite crafting memory was my grandmother teaching me how to sew a dress for my Barbie, by hand. Also, my Mom and I making reader digest angels for Christmas decorations.
My favorite crafting memory is teaching my children to knit xox
My favorite crafting memory is making my dad a fidget sleeve, he wore it every day & told everyone about it. My dad had dementia & I cared for him the last few years of his life. He was & still is my inspiration for making fidget sleeves & lapmats.
My favorite crafting memory was learning how to crochet at work, me and about 4 others would just be sitting there crocheting in between calls and having a good time.
My best crafting memory is when my grandma taught me how to knit my first scarf 🙂 and each time I see her smile when I show her what I am making!
My mom teaching me at a very early age to sew. She would have me sew all the straight seams and then do all the finishing of the seams. Loved doing this with my mom and every time I sew I think of her.
My favorite crafting memory is my grandma trying to teach me to crochet when I was maybe 8 or 9. I got the chain down but as soon as she tried to teach me the single crochet I was lost. I’m more a knitter than a crocheter but 30 years later I am trying to improve my crochet ability in her memory.
My favorite crafting memory is teaching my 7 year old how to crochet and knit. She is still a beginner but seeing her joy when she is able to see some progress is amazing
My favorite crafting memory is from when I was a little girl, maybe three or four years old, making crepe paper flowers with my grandma in her dining room. We were making them to decorate my aunt’s car for after her upcoming wedding (to go along with the “Just Married!” sign.) 💖🌸💖🌸
Favorites memories… my grand-mother doing colorful carpets!
I’ve been knitting and crocheting for many years and love pretty much all I make but my favorite memory is my Grandson asking me to make him a Teddy bear and constantly following up on the progress. He’s 6 yrs old
My favorite crafting memory is with my grandmother. When I was in middle school, she taught me to knit both with a loom and with needles. She was very patient and very excited to teach me. She guided me all the way through knitting my first scarf and was super proud once I finished it. Now I knit and crochet all sorts of pretty things for her and my mom and all my loved ones. 🥰
My favorite crafting memory is TRYING to teach my granddaughter to crochet. She stared at me a minute, said “That’s NOT how the crochet people did it when they came to our school.” (Crochet people! 🤣). End of lesson. But! She then proceeded to teach herself to do it and became prolific – giving hats and scarves to all her friends.
My mom taught me a bit about hand-sewing as a kid and then using a machine when I got older. We made some pretty things I still wear.
A crafting memory – finally made a decent crochet top that I can actually wear! 🙂
My favorite crafting memory was crocheting lapghans for my staff for our Staff Appreciation party. They were all identical, but done in colourways that matched each staff person individually. They loved them and send me pics all the time of them or their kids snuggled up in their blankets!
Favorite memory was watching my Grandma crochet afghan. Still have the one she made for my high graduation gift
My favourite crafting memory is when I was pregnant I crocheted my son a huge basket stitch blanket which he sits on every birthday for a photograph, I was a fairly inexperienced crocheter then, it was my first large project and taught myself the stitches
My favorite crafting memory is my Grandmother💕 It’s been 3 years since I cared for her as she passed with Cancer, and I now craft obsessively. Mostly Tunisian crochet and Knitting, both of which she introduced me to at a very young age. I recall her taking me to a local group she started called “Ladies Aide”, and proudly showing her members my “works of fiber art”. The help and aid she provided to anyone in need, has inspired me to follow her lead.
I have many good memories, and my fav memory is from only a couple weeks ago when I crocheted some fingerless gloves for a friend who is fighting cancer. It brought me so much joy to see her wearing them to keep warm. 💕 I thought of her and her healing with every stitch.
Sending you and your friend good thoughts. 💜
My favorite memory was my Mother trying to teach me how to knit. She was righty, I am lefty.. and after about 10 minutes of her trying to figure out how to knit lefty (all the while I told her to teach me righty) and she gave up after 10 minutes. Fast forward a few decades and I taught myself how to knit. Thank you Chandi! (apologize if this is commented twice, my computer froze up after I clicked post comment and when the page refreshed it showed only the first few sentences.
My favourite crafting memory is making Christmas ornaments with my sisters to give as gifts when we were kids!
One of my favorite crafting moments was when I made seashell jewelry with my mom and Aunt Marie when we were in Florida one year. We all love the beach and shells to this day…my mom is now 81 and my Aunt Marie is 87.
Favorite crafting memory is my grandma teaching me how to knit. And now we both have shared our love of the craft with many other friends.
My favourite crafting memory is finishing my first cardigan. Turn out beautiful with not one to teach me. Since then I been doing a lot of crochet cardigan sweaters, scarf, beanies. I just love it.
I have 4 boys and 1 girl and all of them have asked me to teach them how to crochet and knit. When I say knit, I have only ever done the garter stitch. I prefer to crochet. My boys prefered to knit up washcloths and my daughter went further and made crochet blankets, hats, purses… My favorite crafting memory is looking up from my crochet project and seeing ALL of my children, at the same time, sitting around me doing some “yarn-ing” (a term my husband says for all things yarn related). I just smiled so big and sent a prayer up to my Auntie in Heaven for teaching me to crochet at 8 years old so that I could have this picture in my memories.
😍
My favorite crafting memory was when I was attempting to teach my mom, sister, and cousin how to crochet for the first time, but there had been too much wine involved and none of us really accomplished anything. We laughed so much that night. My mom kept saying “What?” and my sister went off and put made-up stitches wherever she wanted. My cousin was super focused and caught on pretty quick though. It was a rare night where all of us got together from different states and tried to have a common hobby.
Love this!
One of my favorite crafting memories was when I learned that my classmate’s mother had cancer and so I crocheted her a shawl with a note for her. Her mom, which I had never met and lived in another state, sent me a wonderful card and a picture of her wearing the shawl which she continues to wear. It’s such a gift to make something for someone and people are generally surprised and overjoyed when it happens which I love.
💕
My favourite crafting memory is when I was in elementary school and had a lip sync/battle of the bands type battle in drama class, my mom stayed up late one night helping me make a guitar out of paper mache. I’ll never forget it … we painted it pink with flowers to go with the song “my band” sang 😁
My favourite crafting moment was first time knitting and my friend helping me along the way and being so excited that i started knitting. Within that time, my motivation was to make her and some of my family members xmas presents and it made me feel so happy!
Hi, Chandi!
(from Provence/France)
Thank you for your channel, clear and efficient tutorials, your enthusiasm and encouragements.
I have been knitting and crocheting for more than… 50 years !!🙉!! and one of my favorite crafting memories is discovering amigurumi a few years ago: being able to create animals, little characters and objects for my grandchildren with just yarn and hook was/is so amazing and such fun!!!
It’s not already a memory, but it will become. I’ve made a boho shawl for a friend of mine as 2021 Christmas gift and I’m looking forward to see her reaction.
My favorite crafting memory is from a few years ago. I made a bunch of F-bombs as gifts for my friends . Smiled and giggled the whole time while knitting them. Lmao .
My favorite crafty memory is sitting with my great grandma h her showing me how to tat. Everytime I ask or she would offer 🙂 I was if course to young but that didn’t make any difference.
Knitting and Crochet has gotten me through some very difficult times in my life. When I could do nothing but sit in bed and listen to podcasts just as background noise to distract me from my crippling fear and anxiety, learning crochet and knitting helped me feel productive and create beauty when I was feeling so helpless and dark. I’m grateful every day for fiber arts. Thank you for your tutorials! It was your continental knitting that convinced me I could knit. It just feels way more natural to me.
💜
My favorite memory now is crocheting and knitting items for my granddaughter! thanks for all the inspiring tutorials. I love the bloopers at the end!
My favorite crafting memory is sewing dresses with my daughter and weaving on cardboard looms with my son.
When my Mom and Dad were both still alive, I was a new wheel spinner. Had them over for dinner and then showed them how I was spinning wool and then knitting a vest as I went. They were so impressed! My Dad took pictures of me at my wheel, and they both asked lots of questions. My Mom knew I loved sewing and knitting, just like HER mother, and she wondered aloud if her Mom (who I was named after) had been a spinner, too.
Omg, my son is getting married in July (postponed from last year due to Covid) and their colors are shades of purple! I’m an ADVENTUROUS beginner in crochet (taught thru YouTube by all you Lovelies) and I’d love to Crochet the bride a “simple but beautiful scarf” that she could wear during the rehearsal dinner, or at the reception! If I don’t win, that’s ok you’ve given me a wonderful idea! Love, love your optimism, outfits, hats & of course tutorials/yarns. Works of art! Happy Friday everyone xoxo
My favorite crafting memory is crocheting my daughter her favorite cartoon character and the next day having requests from her entire class for their favorites. It took months but they all loved their new little friends
My favorite crafting moment was when I was teaching a friend to knit outside Starbucks and some random lady approached us and told us about her knit group and invited us to come. I had just moved to this new city and didn’t really know anyone so I was interested in trying it out to meet people. I’m glad I got the courage and went to the group! That lady is one of my closest friends and like a mom to me and I also made some amazing friendships with a bunch of wonderful ladies! We don’t just knit together but travel and do things that aren’t yarn related! I am so thankful that she had the courage to approach us and invite us!
I love this!
My favorite crafting memory is learning how to crochet two years ago when I was pregnant with my third child 😊. I stayed up late every night watching YouTube tutorials struggling even to hold my hook. But i did learn the art and I continue to learn everyday.
My favorite crafting memory was finishing my first crocheted All Souls Shawl, seeing all the faces emerge from the yarn as I finished each section, and seeing how happy my friend was who I gave the shawl to for her birthday. 🥰
Favorite crafting memory is learning to crochet. My grandmother taught me in her living room. It didn’t stick, but when I relearned years later, I always through of her
Hi Chandi! It’s so hard to think of just one. Crafting is a gift for someone you love! Even if it’s just something for yourself. I think my first memory of learning to knit is making little squares when I was five that my mom turned into slippers. We put Pom-poms on and I danced and twirled in between racing down the hall to slip and slide and pretend I was surfing in the ocean at our California beaches. The beginnings of a grand adventure and a lifetime of crafting!
Armand Hammer had an art exhibit where my friend and I lived. We bought some prints and decided to frame them ourselves. We had the best time and laughed so hard! When we finally finished a frame I held it up and she started laughing! She said look you’re a picture! And it unraveled from there!! 😆
my favorite memory is my grandma teaching me to crochet. she was a tough teacher i would show her my work and she would say no dianna that is wrong and she would tear it all out and say let start again. she taught me to do it right … then taught me to make lace for my pillow cases i was so thrilled and proud to here her brag on me i was 8 years old.
I have been knitting and crocheting for 44 years. My favorite memory was going to Mexico and learning how to embroider flowers on cotton cloths. My grandma loved all fiber arts. I used to draw the flowers on cloths and use embroidery thread to make them come to life.
My favourite crafting memory…I have two😊One is my Grandmother teaching me how to knit & the other is my Mom showing me how to make a quilt!
One of my favorite semi recent crafting memories is trying to teach a few 10 – 18 year olds to crochet and knit during a program I ran at my library. As a librarian who works with young adults, its so rewarding passing along skills that they find fun. Seeing their final products later on and how excited they were about the process was awesome!
My favorite crafting moment. Hmm. I remember as a kid, I’d spend 3 weeks up with my relatives during the summer. One of those years I signed up for a watercolor class at a kid’s workshop. We would be able to take different classes, like dance or woodshop, which I also did. Just before I went home, my aunt entered some of my finished paintings into the local county fair. In the end, I won 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and an honorable mention in my age category. I’d only lost to a kid who entered a piece from that same watercolor class.
My favorite crafting memory is making lots of hats and blankets for my son’s first year and then having professional photos taken of him wearing the hats. So cute!
My favorite memory of knitting is when my grandmother taught me. He taught me how to crochet, and I’ve been wanting to crochet again for a while.

My favorite moment was when I knitted my first shawl for my best friend. Her mum was a pro, she knitted amazing pullovers and crocheted beautiful table cloths for her daughter (my bestie). After passing away, I decided to kind of continue her mum’s tradition and knit something for her every year on her birthday. It’s not the same, but she loves it and I love seeing this look of happiness tinted with nostalgia on her face when I give her a finished project. Yarn is beautiful, it can create beautiful pieces and knitting created a different bond for me and her!
I love your videos and patterns, I used a couple of them for my projects. So thank you!
💕
My favorite memory is of how supportive my parents where about us doing crafts. Where we lived there wasn’t easy access to craft supplies, so each time we went to visit my grandmother, we would go shopping at this store that sold carpets and strangely, craft supplies like felt cleaners and pom poms. We were given money to spend and could choose whatever we wanted. It was so exciting everytime we went!
My friend Alice and I went to Knit Knight at the local yarn shop. She didn’t live much longer after that. Every year in my Facebook memories that picture of us pops up.
My favorite memory is when my children was little and we would make a ornament every year to put on the tree at Christmas. Now they are doing it with my grandkids. 🙂
Gosh that’s some beautiful yarn!!!
My favorite crafting memory is making penguins with my best friend when I was 9. I was so excited to make something so cute, all by myself with my own hands.

My favourite crafting memory is completing the first garment I ever made. It was a knitted v-neck sweater in a Dk weight yarn knitted in stocking stitch. I was so proud of it and if my accomplishment. I’ve gone on to make lots more items since then and have learnt to crochet in the last year. The feeling of accomplishment when completing my first crochet garment was almost as sweet.
My favorite crafting memory is when I got my very first crochet project finished after a few weeks
One of my favorite crafting memories is learning to crochet from my mom. She learned the skill later in her life and now makes gorgous blankets, sweaters, shawls, and so much more. When she taught me how to crochet as a teenager she was so patient and excited to teach my sisters and I. She had us pick out our yarn and even though those first few chains looked horrible she just kept encouraging us and celebrating each successful stitch. I love to think back on that when working on my projects today.
Now whenever I try to master a new stitch she is ready to help and shows me step by step. She even offers critique on my projects so I can get better.
My favorite crafting memory was a year after I had stopped crocheting because I thought I would never get it. But going back I picked it right up and patterns just clicked. It was so great to know my hard work did pay off, I just needed to take time to process it.
My favorite memory on crochet is making some plastic bag holders. They were awesome and useful
My favorite crafting memory is sitting around the table at my fave LYS, knitting and talking to the other regulars, helping anyone who came in that wanted to learn to knit or needed help with a tough pattern. The camaraderie was wonderful, we were all there because we loved to k it and share it.
My favourite crafting memory is my Mom teaching me to crochet when I was very young. She taught me how to make Granny Squares using yarn remnants. I was home, sick with a serious illness for several months and spent a lot of my time making hundreds of Granny Squares. She took them and crocheted a border around each square, then connected them to make a huge blanket. That was over 40 years ago and I still have that blanket!
I LOVE to CROCHET & I LOVE EVERYTHING to do with YARN! But, unfortunately, my children (10 & 12 years old) are not interested in fiber arts. So, my favorite crafting memories are when my children & I sit down to make ornaments every Christmas. We have so much fun playing with an assortment of crafty things & we make gifts that other family members & friends enjoy receiving. ; )
Hm, favourite craft memory… it must be when I returned to knitting, because of my pregnancy. I knitted blanket for my first baby. After that, every memory builds up on it. ❤️
Hi Chandi,
I’ve been crocheting blankets & baby toys since I was young. This last year I crocheted 3 gifts for Christmas, my favorite was the triangle shawl in rust. It was the 1st time I made something that I’ve ever realized that crochet could look elegant and not like a home craft. My sister loved it (first time I’ve ever made something she REALLY liked). Thank you. The pattern was a lot harder than I thought but I got through it. The yarn was luscious! It’s what kept me going. ❤
My favorite crafting memory is of making beaded anklets with my daughter’s.
My favorite crafting memory is when I managed my first ever shawl. I took some pictures of it, folded it neatly and kept it until I met my mom a week later to give it to her. I was extremely proud of myself when I saw how happy mom was 🙂
Wow the yarn is fantastic. My next project is your Boho shawl. Still looking for the perfect yarn. Thank you Chandi 💟
My favorite crafting memory is crocheting my first and only Granny Square afghan. It was a fun experience.
My favorite crafting memory is having my mom teach me and my late sister how to crochet. I haven’t stopped learning and doing since.
My favorite crafting moment was just recently during the COVID lockdown. I learned how to knit socks! I always wanted to do this & having all this extra time gave me the chance to slowly figure it out.
My first ever crochet project was a c2c blanket which turned into a queen size! I gave it as a gift to my best friend when it was done.
My favorite crafting memory is when I made my first bootie for my son way back in 2012 that’s when I started crocheting and knitting and I’ve only grown to love it more and more in time.
My Mom was a crafter and I guess that’s where my crafting side of me came from. She did a lot of projects I can remember as a little girl. The best memory was helping her with the projects and learning along. I learned to crochet from her although she moved on to different crafts, learning to crochet from her is something I’ll cherish the time spent together.
Beautiful and amazing colors. I love the look of your yarn. If there was any way to afford some to make a wrap I would do it, but since cancer wiped us out we can’t even afford or meds. So I look and dream.
I’ve often wished I could touch it, it looks so silky soft.
Beautiful!
