Hello, my wonderful shining star! Our crochet pattern for you this week is our Prolongation Shawl!
This is the sister shawl to our knitted Concatenation shawl.
Prolongation is an Adventurous Beginner pattern and is designed for those crocheters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. The pattern features color work and textured stitches.
One technical definition of prolongation is the extension of the spatial length of something.
This wrap extends from color to color as it is worked on the bias. To achieve this angular look, increase one stitch at the beginning and decrease one stitch at the end of each right side row. Introduce the next color in the sequence with delicate stripes created by small puff stitches.
This lovely shawl is made with our Blossom Fingering yarn. Shades are limited edition so if sold out, any 4 colors of Fingering weight yarn will work.

This pattern is easily customizable by adjusting the amount of cast on stitches in an even amount.
The sample shown used approximately 1,162 yds total (294 yds Color A, 308 yds Color B, 280 yds Color C, 280 yds Color D).
Don’t you just love the texture on this shawl? The shades in this shawl were inspired by the flowers in my own garden.

Hi, Chandi! Any flower at all? Uhm…any flower at all….Do you know how many flowers there ARE? Of course you do…drat!
Probably my favorite flower is the Himalayan Blue Poppy (I have to be precise, because other blue poppies exist). It’s scientific name is Meconopsis bailey or Meconopsis betonicifolia…but Himalayan Blue Poppy it is, either way.
Why? Because I love poppies, and I love all the tones of blue (I’m a cross stitcher, so I am SOOOO familiar with many of the myriad of blues out there. I also love being in the mountains. And the Himalayan Blue grows quite happily in countries such as Bhutan and Nepal, where al little mountain chain of its own lives….the mountains borrowed their name from the flower, of course.
I think we all can shine no matter where we are and the Himalayan Blue Poppy proves that decisively. Because poppies are decisive in nature. (I’m smiling when I say that). (But it’s also true.)

I rea;;u enjoy your tutorials they are so helpful and are so easy to follow. I think if I was a flower I would be a Daisy because they are so beautiful and come in many different types,
If I could be a flower I’d be a sunflower. They come in all sizes and shapes. Flowers are never ashamed of their size, no matter what they are. Sunflowers are happy flowers. And they provide birds and squirrels with food. Some insects use them for shelter and nests. And maybe best of all we as people get to eat the seeds too! Sunflowers have it all, in or out of the garden.
Hi Chandi: I would be my favorite flower, a pansy! So many beautiful colors and they look so happy and cheer me up whenever I see them! It was the first flower I grew from seed as a child.
I would be a rose. I love the velvety feel and of course the wonderful aroma.
if I could be any flower? I would be a DAISY.

If I were a flower, I would choose to be a rhododendron. They give the most beautiful display. Since moving south from RI to NC, I understand that rhododendrons don’t grow here…..not cold enough in winter. Their colors range from blues to fuschias to pale pinks, and they bloom prolifically in late Spring. I miss them, so if I were one, I’d be joyfully displaying my colors for all the world to see.
