Greetings, lovely soul!
Our pattern this week is a stunning, crescent-shaped shawl!
Adalia is a gorgeous beginner level crochet pattern designed by Jane Vanselous that we made in three delicious colors of a new yarn, but that would be just as beautiful made in one color.
Have a watch! We have filmed a video tutorial for you showing you how to get started and how to work the Cluster stitch! Have a look:
The sample shown features our Ephemeral Fingering. Shown in: 1 skein each of (A) Dosia, (B) Raelle, (C) Sonnet.
Per skein: (100 g, 548 yds)
Ephemeral Fingering is a plant-based yarn blend of pima cotton and lyocell. It has a soft sheen, is supremely soft, drapes gorgeously and makes wonderful shawls and flowing tops! Truly elegant and divine!
We hope you LOVE IT! A stunning shawl you’ll simply love wearing.

Hi Chandi,
I love this pattern and I have started immediately with my own spinning and dying wool.
Thank you so much for all your lovely colors of wool and patterns.
Love from The Netherlands, Marga Boot
P.s. How can I put a photo of my work on a comment?
I’m not sure how you put photos in the comments here. But, if you are on Facebook, you can post on my expression fiber arts page and we will be able to see all of your lovely work.
How do I get the pattern. Can’t find it anywhere, thank you .
You can find the Adalia pattern at https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/adalia.html
I have watched many crocket pattern videos, and I am sorry to say that but you are the worst. I tried to do it, but since your explanation was not sufficient, after spending a whole day, I gave up.
I’m sorry you were unhappy with our video. I hope you have. lovey day.
Row 23 is stumping me! Can you help me read the pattern?
Thanks!
Sure! What seems to be the problem?
I am having trouble with row 23, i ended up with too many stitches, the way it is written is very confusing
Row 23 has me stumped too. What do the parentheses mean x 4 and then x 14 (or whatever it is). Do we repeat it 4… 14… times? Or what?
Susan, I’ll check with the designer and we’ll email you a response shortly! Thanks!
I was saddened at your sound in your text, of all the wrong ways to say it didn’t work for me…….
Skill levels come into play when working with these patterns just keep practicing
Hi, Chandi!
I’m confused on repeat portion of row 8. The previous row 7 explains that there are “2” chains between double crochets. However, row 8 gives instructions as if there were only 1 chains on row 7. Row 8 explains: “*skip chain space one, cluster on the next double crochet, skip the next chain space {what happens to the space chain next to this one?}, double crochet on next double crochet. What happened to the 2nd chain from row 7?
Does the DC go into the first chain 1 or the double crochet? Please, help because I love this shawl!
Lia
Great question, Lia! The chain space just refers to the ch 2 space. Thanks!
Hi chandi! This shawl is wonderful and I started making it to give as gift to our godmothers for our wedding. I am almost finished with this project when I noticed that after finishing section 5, the output is quite small than it is supposed to be probably because the fingering weight yarn I used (at the same time the only available fingering yarn that I could easily buy in the Philippines) is thinner than that of the pattern. As a remedy, I decided to repeat sections 2-5 before I do the last section (section 6) but I think I made mistakes in the adjustments of stitch counts when I repeated the said sections. I hope you could help me on this. Thanks in advance
I would love to help! Please write me here: https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/contact-us/ so you can share what went wrong and we can see if we can help. Thank you so much!
I need help with row 23 too. I do have enough stitches. How many single crotches should I have after the (sc in ch sp, sc in dc) x 6? When I do the math, I come up with 12 stitches. Please clarify what you mean by x 6 and x 4.
Thank you
Gina, happy to help! Please shoot us an email here and we’ll assist!
I had a problem understanding the stitches needed for row 23. After hours of trying to follow the pattern, I came up with my own way to get the 167 stitches.
Gina, thanks for letting us know! Always feel free to reach out to us here should you have any questions!
Ciao Candido! Amo questo scialle ma senza schema o grafico non riesco a lavorarono 🙌 purtroppo non parlo inglese. Ciao Rachele. Grazie mille
You can find the pattern here: https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/adalia.html 😍
Hi Chandi I love watching your videos! My granddaughter is wanting a wedding shawl in this pattern. She wants the yarn to match her dress which is a slightly lighter than eggshell white. Which of your yarns do you recommend to maintain the gauge and size as well as the color?
Congratulations and Thank you so much! I would recommend this one: https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/au-lait-oasis-camel-silk-fingering.html 💕
Hi Chandi,
I love watching your videos! You have such a lovely personality! I just started this pattern and by the 4th row I keep coming up short on the end double crochet count before so even get to row 4. I am a beginner. This is my third project. I have successfully completed two shawl patterns with double crotchets and clusters. I feel like I’m extending the row far enough (to the top of that last chain that is supposed to count as a double crochet) Any ideas on what I’m doing wrong to come up short?
Tina, great question – we’ll be emailing you shortly for more information to help solve your issue!
Same here I’m stuck with row 4. Basically the instructions says ch 3, 2 dc in same dc, *dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * 3 more times, dc in next 3 dc, 3 dc in last dc; and you have to end up with 29. However when I do this I’m still left with extra stitches and there is no way that I will end up with 29 at the end. The pattern says 2dc in the next dc, rep from *3 more times, what does this even mean? Does this mean 9 two double crochets or repeat from 3 it’s not clear at all and very confusing
Hi Viktorija, I’m happy to help. For row 4 you will chain 3 and then work 2 dc in that same st, which contains the chain 3. Then you will work 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts, followed by 2 double crochets in the following st.
The instructions rep from * 3 times mean, that you will repeat the instructions marked with an * (asterisk) 3 times. In this case that’s **1 dc in each of the next 3 sts, followed by 2 double crochets in the following st**.
After completing these 3 repeats you will work 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts and finish the row by placing 3 doubles crochets in the very last st.
I hope this will help you completing this row. Please let me know if you have any further questions. ❤
Hello,
I just have one question, could this shawl be crocheted in a larger yarn, like DK? I’m older and winters get chilly would love a wrap like this to not only be pretty but also warmer.
Also I love your videos, you do patient instructions with some slower movements as you teach a stitch or cluster are wonderful. I look forward to finding the right yarn for this pattern. I absolutely love it, hopefully in purple shades. 😊
You could totally do this in a DK weight yarn! 🧶
Hi Chándal, when buying a pattern, is it a download form? I am in Chile at the moment and don’t have an actual address.
Yes, it is a download. 😊
Hello, have questions regarding making bigger size of this shawl. From which row do I need to repeat 🔁 it?
Please guide
I love this pattern so much! Is very well written and my Adalia shawl is perfect 🙂 Thank you Chandi for your amazing work! You can see a picture of my work on my Instagram @creativ.anaviv . Wonderful day, sweet souls! Viv
Wonderful! I’m excited to see it!
Hey there, I’m having trouble understanding row 23 how were you able to get all 167sc im following what the pattern says but i keep only getting through a quarter of the row and while still having a bunch of row left over
– Thanks, Alex
I’m not sure if I understand row 9 directions. It has us doing the double crochet (in the cluster) after the single crochet chain 3 (in the cluster space). Example sc in ch sp of cl, chain 3, dc in next dc, ch 3, start again. Is that what we are suppose to do or am I missing something, won’t the cluster be off? Thanks and I love the video’s just wished they were a little longer.
Row 10 has given me some confusion, ch3, dc in same dc, 2 dc (where?), 2 dc in ch sp, etc. Could you please explain, thank you. Tammie
Hello how do i increase rows from the last row 64 please i want to make mine bigger
Good morning Chandi!
I’m not good with gauges but really want this shawl to be perfect for my 89 yo mother!
Gauge says 16 dc and 9 rows should be 4″ in dc, blocked. What should the pre-blocked gauge be?
Thanks!!
Linda, please send us an email with your pattern question to [email protected] so Pam can reach out to the designer to see if she has that information in her pattern notes. Thank you, and have a great day!
Hi there, im having trouble understanding row 23 I don’t understand what it means when the pattern says x4 or x6 i tried my best to figure it out but I just kept confusing myself even more.
– Thanks, Alex
Hi Alex,
thank you for your message I’m happy to help you with that.
When you have instructions like x 4 or x 6 that means you will repeat a specific stitch combination 4 or 6 times. In case for Row 23 that’s the instruction in the parentheses.
So for Row 23 this would mean the following:
This means that you’ll ch 2, sc in that same dc, sc in the next dc and then you’ll (sc in ch sp, sc in dc) 6 times across. You’ll then sc in the chain space, 2 sc in the next dc and then *(sc in ch sp, sc in dc) 4 times in a row, then sc in ch sp, 2 sc in next dc.* You’ll do the part inside the asterisks, 12 additional times across before ending the row with (sc in ch sp, sc in dc) 2 times and then 2 sc in last dc; turn. [167 sc]
I hope this answers it. Please let me know if there is something else I can help you with.
Have a great day! – Johanna 💕
Hey Johanna, thanks for your help i understand it a bit more now but im still confused on how to get 167sc ive been trying to follow the pattern but everytime i never get enough stitches im only able to get through a quarter of the row but then i have a hole bunch of the row still left over would you know how to fix this?
aw thank you! i hope you have a great day too!
– Alex 🙂
Hi Alex,
let me try again. This time I’ll write the entire row out for you and maybe this will clarify things.

[167 sc]
Sorry this is a lot longer than I thought it’ll be but if you follow each stitch from above you should end up with 167 sc and crocheted the entire row.
If you still have trouble afterwards, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Jane (the designer, we provided her email address in the pattern) or Pam in customer service (through the contact form on the website).
Have a nice day! – Johanna ❤️
Hello Ms. Chandi, I am still fairly new to reading crochet patterns and I am confused as to what the * means? Does it mean repeating the number of DC from before, or is it a single DC? This is a beautiful pattern and I hope to do it justice! Thank you.
Hi Annie,
thank you for your question. I’m happy to help.
I’m not exactly sure where in the Adalia pattern you are exactly but let’s take Row 1 for an example. The pattern states
“Row 1 (WS): 2 dc in 4th ch from hook (1st 3 ch count as a dc),*3 dc in next ch, rep from *; turn”
You will work the 2 double crochets into the 4th ch from hook and then 3 double crochets into the next ch. Following you will repeat everything after the asterisk up to the word rep, meaning you will continue making 3 double crochets into the next stitch until the end of row.
I hope this makes sense and is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions.
Have a nice day! – Johanna 💕
Hi Chandi,
I have purchased this pattern today. However haven’t received the pdf yet. I have also sent an e-mail regarding the same. Would be great if you could resolve this. Thank you
Hi Amol,
thank you for reaching out. I’ve checked with our customer service guru, Pam, and it seems like she already took care of this. Enjoy your Adalia pattern 🥰 – Johanna
Hi Chandi, I’m fairly beginner and I’m working on this beautiful pattern. However, when I see my work it kind of curls. I had crocheted the first 15 rows with different yarn and had the same issue. Please help me! 🙏
