Etude no 6: A study in mosaic knitting.
This is the final of our Etude series, in which you learn a new technique each shawl.
•In the final study in this series, we explore slip-stitch knitting with multiple colors, also referred to as mosaic knitting. Mosaic knitting can be worked flat or in the round, in garter or Stockinette stitch. Unlike stranded colorwork knitting, which utilizes two or more colors of yarn worked on the same row, mosaic knitting uses only one strand of working yarn on any given row. Slipped sts from previous rows give the impression of multiple colors on the same row. This shawl is one of my favorite shapes, an asymmetrical triangle that begins with a small number of stitches and increases at regular intervals to a large number of stitches at the end. The Stockinette body provides a simple background to a large slipped stitch brocade panel that provides the focal point of the shawl, before ending in a Stockinette and garter border.
•This shawl begins with a small number of sts and increases by one stitch on every RS row to widen the triangle. There are no decreases. To adjust the length of the shawl, you can simply switch to the garter border at any time after completing the brocade panel, and then bind off.
•If you are a tight knitter, you might decide to go up a needle size to work the brocade panel. This is entirely optional. Regardless of which needle size you use for the brocade panel, make sure to keep the floats from your slipped sts loose so the brocade panel doesn’t pucker and alter the shape of your shawl.

Hi Chandi I’m work on etude no 6 shawl…I have the left side that is folding in on its self. Wondering if you know what would be causing this.
Denice, I would try giving it a good blocking to see if that helps! It depends on the yarn you chose!
