I dyed up the most hideous yarn colorway the other day. It was so hideous that I didn’t even take a picture. It was a horrid, bright orange and garish black with a tinge of mahogany. I thought, “Nobody will EVER want this hideous monstrosity of a colorway!” I can’t emphasize the word “hideous” enough.
I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with the few skeins I had dyed up, so I just plopped them into a bowl, squished them around and… and lo and behold… the mere act of squishing and blending the dyes all together produced the lovely photo you see above. I know. I know.
How did this happen, you ask? Ah, the many mysteries of yarn dyeing!
Anyhoo, this gorgeous colorway that I am now IN LOVE WITH beyond description is waiting patiently to be named and listed. Please shout out any names you like (and then type them below!) and I’ll get it named and hopefully listed soon (maybe on Black Friday?).
Spinners! I have news for you… I have some merino/silk, pure silk and alpaca rovings I plan on getting dyed up and listed soon. Yaaaaa!!

I am making headway on my Indian Corn Hitchhiker shawl. Yarn here, pattern here. I am loving this pattern more than words can say. It’s so mindless and easy and nearly fool-proof and you just knit till you’re nearly out of yarn and then finish off. How perfect is that? Also, you can really quit at any time and have a useable item. If I were to stop now, I’d have a lovely little neckerchief!
According to my scale, I am exactly half-way through my ball! I’ve used 50 out of 100 grams of yarn, so woo hoo! This is going quite speedily. Highly recommended pattern!
If anybody knows of a crochet version similar to this, I’d be interested in it!
Thanksgiving is coming up! I love holidays and I am SO excited for Thanksgiving. I am blessed to have two wonderful families to share it with, and two dinners. NOM NOM NOM! Cornbread dressing is one of my favorite things in the WORLD! I could exist on it.
So Happy Thanksgiving on Thursday, for my fellow USians! I hope each moment of it is filled with warmth and gratitude and family and GOOD FOOD! I’m off to wind yarn! Have a happy Tuesday!
~Chandi
Chandi…for your Hitchhiker scarf are you using one hank of the sock yarn. I have both sock and worsted weight. Do I need to buy more? Need to know as humanly possible. Thank you , Sue
Sue,
One skein of the sock yarn (what I am using) will do it. One skein of the worsted will make more of a smaller neckerchief, but will work. 😀
Hope you enjoy! Chandi
Fall
Living the new yarn…accidental though it may be! Serendipity! Someone suggested “Riverbed” and I like that! Lol also…country lane
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to you too. I don’t have a name for your new colorway but I want to thank you for this post. I liked your Indian Corn colorway when I first saw it; however, I love it now after seening it here. I went and placed an order.
Happy Thanksgiving! Love the new colorway. I think a good name for this would be Black Friday or Giving Thanks.
Rocky Mountain Sunrise
“Red sky harbor” seems a good name for your new colorway
LOL, I think you should name it ‘NOT Hideous’ It softened up quite a bit, and looks lovely!
What about “Autumn Spice” as a name for the yarn in the photo ?
so i looked at the new color again it actually me of a sunrise or day break so maybe call it Angel’s Sunrise?
I put it on your FB page, but I suggested, Autumn, Muted.
I love your new “mistake” color. It reminds me of passing from autumn into winter. The beautiful colors of fall and the greys and muted blacks of winter. I like “Autumn’s End” or something along those lines for a name.
Dear Chandi – not at all hideous, but serendipitously beautiful! … And the colours of all things Fall and Harvest. So, I have a little Celtic suggestion for naming this lovely colourway -Samhain (see definition below).
Then in Spring you could create its growing opposite in the fresh greens, daffodil yellows and hyacinth purples- and call it Beltrane, after the Celtic end of winter festival.
DEFINITION: Samhain – Midpoint between Autumn Equinox and Winter Solstice. The largest and most important festival, great tribal gatherings on Tara Hill. The beginning of the dark half of the year. Gaelic “samhraidhreadh” means “summer’s end. “Irish “Samhain” means the month of November. Preparation to survive the winter, confront the possibility of death was paramount. Ceremonies involve fire, lights, setting out food and gifts for passing spirits. All fires are extinquished and relit from the sacred bonfire. Stories are told around the fires as there is not much to do outside. Colours: Black, browns, reds, oranges.
And now, I must have some of this gorgeous stuff to make into a lovely shawl. Your Hitchhiker is coming along beautifully and I look foward to seeing the finished project. I got 38 “teeth” from one skein of your sock yarn on 3.75 mm needles when I made this pattern.
As always, best wishes from Calgary…now heavily blanketed in snow.
Sharon
When I was younger, I bought a display collection of seashells. It had about 15 different species. When I saw the yarn, I saw the colors that were in the shells. I thought of the name “Seashells”
my first thought was agreement with winter sunrise, but it could also be autumn sunset. have a great thanksgiving.
River Rocks
Thanksgiving
I love this colorway. I’d call it Autumn Harvest.
for your new accidental colorway, how about “harvest home” or “autumn fields”? it is just beautiful. and i love your hitchhiker in indian corn.i hadn’t thought of knitting that pattern before, until i saw yours, that is…..can’t wait to see the photos when you’re finished!
Hi there,
Love the blog. I discovered the site by accident whilst on facebppk. Anyway, I have ordered some yarn.and am excited….just waiting for it to arrive.
I think the name for your “mistake” colour way yarn should be ……Toffee Apple.
Love the look of the yarns.
Helen
I think a great name for the yarn is Soft Heather. I do not see how on earth the colors you squeezed together came out to be this absolutely stunning yarn. I love it! I love your Indian Corn colors, too, and the Hitchhiker pattern is pretty. I’m a knitter.
Hello dear Chandi. I am just like so many persons that – I just by looking around on the other knitters sites – I found you. Good job that I did! I love what I did see – and perhaps – will see in the future. To that, all I can add is? I live so far away! Not over the border – no – the other side of the BLUE WATER”! To buy anything is would be like have to have another loan on my home. The postage and packing make up the high price. As I am old and white can not afford it. Anyhow, I just love what you are creating, love the colours and so on. As you are a very young lady – You will go far with your creations. All the very best to your future. Best wishes and kind regards always: Julie (UK)
Hello dear. Sorry, but I forgot to put my oppinion on your latest yarn. Just simply put it? Brilliant. I love it!! How about “Past Summer”! Well, I thought it will be like many other persons idea – but a little different?
All the very best to your future.
Always: Julie
Hey, that so called hideous yarn, the black and red and yellow looking one, on New Things and Hideousness. I would like to know if you still have it and how much do you want for it. I love dragons and to me that looks a lot like fire dragon colors from the ashes to the scales.
Sincerely,
Hannah Skidmore
Nick name: Dragoness
I’m afraid not. It’s long been sold out. 🙁
You should have called it Dragon’s Fire, it would have suited it.
If you look up crochet pinwheel pattern youll find that on there i promise i’ve made them before.
For your colorway – “Late Autumn” It reminds me of the woods in November right before all those leaves finally fall. Sunny. Crisp. Apples & squash for sale along the road. Frost on the fields in the morning.
