What an unusual question, but I would rather make something out of the softest yarn, have it unravel after a year and enjoy using that project for a year. Thankfully with your yarns, that is not a choice I have to make, as your yarns are both soft and if cared for properly will be items that can be heirlooms!
That is such a hard question to me. I like to know that my projects will last and be passed down through generations so I guess the scratchy yarn. Hopefully it will soften up after a few washings. There is always new beautiful colors coming out so I wouldn’t want to re-knit/crochet projects with yarn that I have already used that has come undone. Thank you for your gorgeous yarn.
I think I would use scratchy yarn because I love seeing my early projects next to my newest project
I would use the scratchy yarn as there are ways to soften it up versus a soft yarn that basically falls apart.
If it unravels, it’s an excuse to make something else!! I’ll get way more awesome crocheting in if all my soft squishy wool projects unravel after 12 months! ☺️
Only the softest yarn, if it unravels after a year I will make something else with it. The enjoyment starts with your first stitch through seeing it enjoyed.
Hi Candi! I would like to use only the softest yarn. I would crochet again and again for the next few years 🙂
Hello Chandi!
When fall comes around, it makes me think of the beauty of vibrant Autumn yarn colors that knits into near the skin warmth of a scarf or shawl. Scratchy yarn doesn’t come mind!
I’m now working on a luscious pine green yak blend of yours that I stashed away until I was more experienced in knitting! So soft, it’s worth it!
Scratchy yarn. If I’m going to spend time making something, I want it to last.
I would rather use scratchy yarn! I can use softeners, or wear another item underneath! I’d rather not lose my work after a year.😭😭😭😭
I can agree with this comment I would choose the softest yarn I try to avoid using any yarn that is not pleasant to the touch already and if the project unravels it is a chance to be able to enjoy making it again or making something new
I would use the softest yarn, and then get a chance to knit with it again when a project unravels. I hope it’s a magical unraveling, so that I know when it’s happening and the yarn is all reusable.
The soft yarn. I wouldn’t knit if I had to use scratchy yarn.
Hi Chandi! I would rather use only soft yarn, as long as I don’t have to pay for it!! Soft yarn is EXPENSIVE!! Also, I just wanted to let you know that I learned to knit using your YouTube videos! I really hope I win this month, ive been entered in all of your giveaways since at least may of this year! Fingers crossed!🤞
Wow that’s such a evil question! I really don’t like working with scratchy yarn, so I guess I would have to pick soft yarn but the projects unravel after a year. I guess that means I just have to keep making projects to replace the ones that fall apart!
softest
Such a tough question! I guess I’d go for the softest yarn. But wouldn’t that be awful to see them unravel! Maybe I’ll pick the scratchy ones? Knit the most complex patterns and make sure I wear something under them. However, just handling something scratchy wouldn’t do. Better stick with soft! I think 🤔
I would rather use scratchy yarn, after the time I put into a piece I would hate for it to unravel
Waves. Hmm that is a tough one. Scratchy or softest but unravels. Think I’ll go with softest that unravels , at least you can remake it or something else. Kinda like the gift that keeps on giving hehe, 😂 Also Congratulations to the winner and early Happy Holidays to everyone.
I would like to use soft yarn even if I am at risk of it unraveling.
Hmmm… That is a hard question to answer. I do love soft yarn, but I want my crafts to last. I suppose I would crochet with the rough, scratchy yarn then. I could always try to soften it after I make something out of it, right?
Hmmmmm interesting question, I would rather knit or crochet with scratchy yarn for the rest of my life rather than all of my hard work unraveling!
Oof rough question, I guess scratchy yarn and then I would make a ton of decorative stuff that doesn’t depend on feeling. I like making clothes, blankets, and plushies but if they come apart after a year I would be worried about choking hazards and such
I love this question and it’s an easy answer for me! I immediately decided on the softest yarn. I often knit just for the pleasure of it, and the items that are “born” are a wonderful byproduct of the process. I’m spoiled by EFA yarn for the rest of my life, I’m afraid. No scratchy yarn for me.
I would rather crochet with the softest yarn and have my project unravel after a year. I have sensitive skin so I would settle for pictures of my projects rather than use scratchy yarn.
That is a tough question and would depend on two things for me: how scratchy is the scratchy yarn, and can I trade things I make for things made of soft yarn? It might also depend on where I live. Scratchy yarn isn’t so much fun to work with, but could be useful and it takes me so long to make anything I hate the idea of having it unravel after a year. It is interesting to contemplate using them together–maybe something soft would make the scratchy more desirable and perhaps the scratchy would keep the soft from unravelling.
Softest yarn! The end product is nice, but the joy is in the knitting.
I would rather knit with soft yarn – echoing someone else’s response, that just means I have to replace the ones that fall apart!
that’s a different question. I think I would pick the soft yarn.. enjoy my project for a year and knit a different project the next year
I’d rather work with soft yarn but maybe I could add the scratchy yarn for stability. 😁
Soft, by far.
Hello! What an unusual question! I’ll take soft, unraveling projects! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for winning some of YOUR soft yarns! Watching my sister make a project out of your yarn has made me extremely jealous! LOL
Soft but unraveling, hands down! The tactile joy of crochet is one of the things I appreciate most. I couldn’t give up that part.
Maybe half my projects with soft yarn and half with scratchy yarn.. lots of my projects I rejoice with being done with. Having to redo them annually would kill my mojo.
Even Scratchy Yarn is more than I can afford these days, but I’d say only knit scratchy.🤐
All these colors inspire me a lot of models.
Congratulations for your work
I’m really not a fan of scratchy yarn, so I have to go with the soft yarn that unravels after a year. To try to think positively that would be a way to motivate getting to buy new yarn 🤔
Definitely one-year soft yarn for me. Then you could change it up with fresh patterns every year, too.
I would always choose the softest yarns even if they did unravel at the end of a year. I love to knit. I find that it is so very therapeutic when I feel the pressures of the world getting to me. No medication works quite like sitting down and making something for someone I love. The movement of my knitting needles help me unwind and the beauty of the yarn draws me into a tranquil state. I absolutely LOVE your yarn.
That’s actually easy to answer. I’m a process knitter, meaning I knit for the fun of it, and often frog projects I’m not satisfied with – so soft yarn it is!
it’s an impossible choice ! i refuse to choose ! (and as always, this month’s selection is amazing!)
OH boy as others have said, it’s a tough question, I would opt for the softest yarn, and in the Autumn colours I would be in heaven and for the rest of my days reknitting in the most stunning yarn.
Absolutely the soft yarn! Not only nicer to work with, but I’d also get much more use out of something soft for a limited time than anything that came out scratchy!
Definitely a tough choice. I think I’d go for the soft yarn as long as it’s not so soft that it’s annoying fluffing into your face and all over your knitting area. That could be as bad as scratchy yarn! But I don’t mind the unraveling after a year part seeing that just means I can make something new with it and reuse the yarn! Certainly though choice without knowing more details. You keep us thinking! I would pick the soft yarn ultimately.
After knitting with scratchy yarn recently (necessary for the project, but not particularly pleasant knitting), I’d pick the soft yarn.
I would rather use the soft yarn, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to wear what I knit. And if my projects unravel after a year, I can always knit new ones to replace them!! 😄😄🥰🥰
Both sound like trouble but as I couldn’t wear anything scratchy and therefore probably couldn’t knit or crochet with it either I wouldn’t choose that.
Despite being sad about the soft yarn unravelling I would choose that option and try to knit fast so I could get the most wear out of it as possible.
I’d rather use the softest yarn. If my projects unravel, I can find ways to use the yarn for other things.
I would rather make items with the softest yarns. I would be tiring of the project after a year so, it would be ok to unravel after a year. I am frugal so I would save the yarn to make another project in the future. We are very spoiled by the huge assortment of premium soft yarn at fairly inexpensive prices. I don’t mind using scratchy yarn for dish cloths and scrubbies. Back in the day scratchy yarn was all there was so we are truly blessed!
Of course, soft yarn. But the main requirement is “do I love the color”! Color is everything to me. I crochet but am learning to knit.
Ugh. So not a pleasant thought but I would have to go with soft. There is just nothing like soft luscious yarn and I can crochet with it all day everyday.
I would rather use the soft yarn, but I would always make something with chunky or worsted. Or else I would double or triple strand thinner yarns, so that it is thick and doesn’t take a long time to make. I would hate to take so long to make something that only lasts a year. I don’t like scratchy yarn, except perhaps for a few outer items that don’t touch my skin at all.
Knit with the softest yarn of course! Lol
I’d rather knot and crochet with soft yarn. If it comes unraveled after a year, I’ll recycle the yarn to make something new!
I would rather knit/crochet with scratchy yarn than have a project unravel after a year using the softest yarn. I knit for practicality and to have items last a long time. If my projects unravel after a year, I would be constantly wasting my time re-knitting an unraveled FO. At least with scratchy yarn, I can mitigate that by only making certain things, and not make anything that rubs up directly against the skin!
Definitely soft yarn. And to look on the bright side I’ll have something to look forward to making something new when it magically turns back into a ball.
I’ll go with the softest yarn. I don’t like scratchy yarn and the act of knitting/crocheting is as much a pleasure for me as seeing the result. So I would get both again and again 🙂
Hi Chandi and EFA Team! 👋🏝😊 Wow! This question is the most interesting ever! Who would ever want to wear the scratchiest yarn for the rest of their life? Not me! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!😇
I’m not really a fan of scratchy yarn and what it does to my hands while working with it so I would go with the softest yarn option. At least the finished project would give a year’s worth of pleasure and enjoyment.
I love the rich colors this month! I’d choose to only use soft yarn and have it unravel, because then I could use it again for something new. When I first started to crochet, I made a beautiful shawl, but it’s so scratchy I never wear it. Definitely prefer soft yarn.
I agree. Just the softest yarn.
I do believe I would be absolutely devastated if the things I made unraveled that soon … I mean it’s a great way for you to always have something to make …. But I would become so disheartened … I think it would make me hesitant to knit or crochet anything large or intricate ever again … But scratchy yarn is horrid and nobody would want my gifts … I may be stuck in this argument with myself for awhile lol 😅
Oh my goodness, this is a hard question. Since I like all types of yarns, it’s so hard for me to choose. I like scratchy yarns, and at the same time, I like soft ones, but I also want my pieces to last with me at all times and not fall apart. I think I will choose soft yarns and try to use stronger yarns or be very careful with the projects while using them so they last longer.
Boy that’s tough. I think I’d go with the softest yarn that unraveled because I would at least use the item! I crochet and I’m learning to knit. If I used scratchy yarn I would not use the item!
Hands down, squishy yarn that unravels after a year so I have a chance to knit it into something else! I love the thought of making something new with beautiful yarn! Over and over!
I kind of love this question, I don’t know why though. I would still go with soft yarn, I knit or crochet for just making something pretty. I usually only keep a few things I make and give a lot away. I would feel pretty awful if everything I gave away unraveled after a year though!
Soft Yarns all the way! I recently made a crocheted basket/tote and even mixed with multiple strands of other worsted weight yarns, could still feel the coarseness. And aren’t there always new projects we want to try?
I have been crochet scratchy yarn one time and I think I don’t really like it. I prefer go long with the softest yarn on my project either crochet or knit.
Hmmmmm, a question I had to think about for a bit. I’m going with THE softest yarn!
Well, I guess if it unravelled I would just have to remake sonething new. Soft yarn, definitely! Gorgeous colors as always! Think this is my favorite mix!
I would use the softest yarn to knit. For me it is the process as much as the final project. If I had one year to wear a beautiful garment made of yarn that would be enough for me.
Love to knit with all yarns, stretchy definitely helps in many patterns. I am a tight knitter no matter what trick I use.
That is a hard question. I would say soft yarn and just knit a different project when it unravels.
I would use the softest yarn. If it unravels, it only means that it will unravel easily so I can reuse it to make it into something else. Lol.
Hello Chandi and team! Ummm! Well that is the question dear Jorick! Scratchy or soft? I guess it would be the softest yarn and enjoy and cherish it for the year! Then during that year search for something else to create with the yarn that will unravel be it knitting or crochet.
Hi Chandi…. Wow! I would rather use the soft yarn and have them unravel, to make something new. It seems like once I’m finished with a project, I’m always thinking that I could’ve tried something different.
Of rather crochet with scratchy yarn because, hey, there’s always fabric softener. 🤷🏻♀️ I could imagine working on a project only to have it unravel after a year 😭
I would knit a new soft shawl every year in a new and different pattern.
Definitely unravel after a year. Feeling the soft dibers as I knit and crochet is one of my favorite parts!
I would have to say crochet with the softest yarn even if it unravels after a year. Maybe then use that same yarn to make something else.
I would choose the softest yarn. As other comments mentioned, you can make new projects after it has unraveled, but my thought is that using scratchy yarn would mean you have a scratchy item to wear or play with until it gets broken in– been there done that!
I would crochet with only the softest yarn. A year later, I would use it for a new project.
This fall inspired yarn is absolutely amazing. The colors and shades make my heart happy. I love most yarn, even the scratchy kind. But I would definitely choose scrumptious yarn even if I had to keep re making projects. It would be like never running out of yarn ❤️
I would rather the softest yarn. Things can unravel and something new could be made!
Hmmm, what a question! I’ve already knit the Scratchiest Scarf in the World™ (bah!), so I think this would be a challenge to create long soft things (with no cuts or weaving-in) that would gently disassemble in the most graceful way, so it looked utterly intentional. Similar to the sand creations by monks that are only meant for a short time.
That is a truly evil question!! HAHA. I try to make things with the intention of making things that will be loved enough to be passed down to future generations. I still have a shawl that my great grandmother crocheted – it was the ONLY thing she crocheted because she said she HATED the yarn she was working with. She helped shear the sheep, then carded & spun the yarn before working it into a shawl. To me, that is a treasure and even though it is made with scratchy yarn, the love and time she put in to it, to me is priceless. That is why I would choose the scratchy yarn. I can always wear gloves if it starts to hurt my hands, but nothing can compare to the love put into a piece.
Woooof, what a question…
I think I prefer the yarn that unravels, because working and wearing scratchy yarn sucks.
But I reserve the right to change my mind after a few of my favorite knit garments unravel themselves and I feel the consequences of my choice.
I’m a pretty slow knitter so it would take most of the year to knit something again. So I guess scratchy yarn so I could actually enjoy my projects.
100% soft yarn. I knit/crochet because i love yarn. Ive become a bit of a snob about what im willing to use because my hands cant handle a lot of stuff. If i want something permanent in this alt universe, well thats why ive also picked up weaving and sewing!
I would like to use the soft yarn but if I make something for my niece, it will fall apart after a year anyway. I don’t know how but she always manages to get a cut on it and it falls apart and she gives it back to me so I can fix it. It discourages me from making things for her.
I’ll be the odd one here and pick scratchy because there is nothing saying it won’t soften up after being washed!
That is a very unusual question you have asked. I would say I would rather knit with the most softness yarn. Even though it does unravel after a year I can make it into something more adorable afterwards.
Hi! I choose the scratchy yarn. Hopefully it will soften with use and washing. Second layer projects are also an option. I have worked with scratchy yarn and found both possible. Thank you for this month”s give-a-way.
Of course I’d prefer the softest yarn. That would mean I’d always have something new to work on. The process of knitting is most of the joy I get from knitting wearable items. Your squishy mail always makes me so happy when I find it in my mailbox. Thank you for the lovely texts I get every day. Please keep it up.
It depends on the project I am making… I guess I am too practical. But, It’s a a lot work for things to unravel in the end. Soft beautiful yarn for soft beautiful projects. But, I can use other yarn as well ! Everything has it’s place.
I’d take the soft yarn. I knit more for the process, the feeling of the yarn in my hands. And I gift most of my finished projects anyway 😜
Definitely crochet with the softest yarn and have it unravel after a year! That would mean I basically have an endless stash!
It has to be crochet with using the softest yarn and just make something new with it every year. You know when it’s going to happen so you can plan ahead and be ready to start!
I don’t mind using scratchy yarn as it needs love, too! Just give it a warm bath with some wool wash soap that smells great and watch it bloom!!
Good morning Chandi. You are so funny!🤣🤣 I love this question! 🩷. I would love to crochet with only soft yarn because you got to wear/use your project for a year before it unravelled. As usual your giveaway yarn is gorgeous. Thank you so much for the opportunity to win some. Have a great November.
If I could reuse the unraveled soft yarn then I would choose soft yarn, if not, I would choose scratchy yarn (there are ways to soften it up).
I would keep the soft yarn, for sure. Hopefully my projects are well-loved throughout their year of service, and then the unraveled yarn may be repurposed for a new project!
I’d pick the softest yarn & knit something new when it unraveled 🙂
The older I get, the more longevity matters to me! I’d rather knit with scratchy yarn and have the project last a while because most of my projects are for other people. I wear vinyl gloves when I knit anyway, so the yarn texture won’t bother me while I’m working with it. And there are ways to soften scratchy garments. If they aren’t softened to a comfortable level, then the recipients can wear something under them.
Since scratchy yarn comes in handy for some projects, I do use it. I only crochet, so I make blankets and some sweaters mostly from wool and other not so great feeling yarn.
Soft yarn it is! I don’t mind the unraveling. There’ll always be a reason to crochet something new
I would rather knit and crochet with the softest yarn and have it unravel in a year! It would be sad to see a nice project unravel, but I would reuse the yarn to make a new and pretty project that I know I or anyone that I gift the project to would be happy to wear! After all, nobody would enjoy a scratchy sweater 😂.
Thank you for all you share with the world, Chandi. I have been a fan for years and always get excited to buy my yarn from you.
I guess I’d choose the soft yarn over scratchy I do allot of pattern testing so to have them unravel would be more than fine
I would use the soft yarn but that would mean that I would never have to buy yarn again as I already have more than enough soft yarn to knit for a year and so I would just be using the same yarn over and over again. Too bad for the people who sell yarn I guess.
Scratchy yarn. I knit with a lot of this to be honest and simply wear a light cotton blouse under it.
As it takes me a full month to knit a sweater, I’d only be able to get one wearing out of it otherwise.
But interesting question.
Hi there Chandi,
While I prefer to knit with softer yarns made from merino, alpaca etc. there are uses for the more hardy yarns such as English leisester border leisester etc yarns such as shipping bags, slipper soles wall art projects and myself being a male spinner/knitter it is somewhat less discomforting to handle the coarser fibre yarns. They all have their chosen destinies.
I’d go with softest yarn as long as it only unravels a year after I finish the project and not a year after I start/do some of it.
I would choose soft yarn without a doubt! The fact that the yarn would unravel would just give me an excuse to knit more!!! Something I’d never complain about!!! Of course I’d have to keep whatever I knit as I wouldn’t want my gifts unraveling on the people I have the items to. Hmmmm….. sort of a win win situation for me! 😉
Soft yarn for me! If it unravels after a year at least I could reuse it!
As a neurodivergent person, there is no way I could work with scratchy yarn, ever. So I would pick soft yarn, and when my projects unraveled I would just knit/crochet them up again! Ooh, make me knit and crochet more, that would be awful (wink, wink)!
Wow! Fabulous Fall colors in this giveaway! I am going to be dreaming about those luscious colors! As for the question, I would have to pick the soft yarn – even if unraveling, I can still squish it and pet it! The scratchy yarn – not so much!!
The softest Expression Fiber Arts yarn, of course!
Soft yarn. I’d just keep reusing the yarn year after year
I would absolutely choose the soft yarn, even if the project unravels! Nothing is better than a super soft sweater, hat, shawl or blanket. And there’s nothing wrong with knitting beautiful things more than once!!
I’d definitely go with the unraveling.
Scratchy yarn is irritating to crochet with, as well as wear. No thanks!! Would love to crochet with all these beauties!
I’m a process knitter, so getting to knit with soft, squishy yarn is my vote! As long as the yarn can take unraveling and re-working, I’d be good.
Soft beats scratchy Every time! It doesn’t matter whether it is for crochet or knitting. The process is a major part of the enjoyment getting to the end item. I want to enjoy the beginning to end. I have had to use scratchy yarn in the past due to cost, but I never kept those finished items. What a waste!
Oh what a choice!! I would definitely choose the soft yarn. Having the project unravel after a year would be a perfect lesson in detachment (A principle highly regarded in the Buddist Tradition and many spiritual beliefs.) Its really difficult to practice but super freeing when we do! So sad to see your project disappear but take plenty of photos first! Then start something new! How fun!
Hi Chandi, I am new to your channel but have seen many of your videos this past week and as a new knitter have learned a lot from you in the last few days. Was struggling with my little project a week ago and ready to give up, but you have saved me!!! Thank you! I have been drooling over your lovely yarns and can’t decide on which to invest in first. Thank you again so much for your positive and caring attitude, it is really heartwarming to feel all that love pouring out of you!
I know from experience that I would prefer soft yarn. I was half way through a beautiful cabled blanket but the scratchy wool bothered my fingers so much I gave it to someone else to finish. I didn’t realize wool didn’t have to be so scratchy until more recently. Now even if I had to reknit the piece I would choose soft yarn.
Any yarn is very much welcome and highly appreciated! I just love to crochet! Cozy blankets, soft scarfs, shawls and bags are part of my retired life now. Fingers also crossed!
Because the process of creating beautiful things with your exquisite yarn is so therapeutic, I would prefer my hands to be touching soft yarn. If my project unravels, I would just rewind and start a new one.
I’d rather have the softest yarn and enjoy it for a year than not be able to enjoy it all cause it’s too scratchy to wear. Besides that would give me an excuse to make something new.
I would choose the soft yarn, seems like getting to make something new with it every year could be a blessing rather than a curse 🙂
Oh so difficult! I would personally go for the soft yarn as it makes me so happy when working with it. If it unravelled, well then I can repurpose for a new project!
I would like to use the softest yarn! I am always wanting to try new projects and rarely make the same thing twice, unless that’s intended. I’d just keep crocheting happily along year after year! 😁
I’d rather crochet with scratchy yarn for the rest of my life.
Sounds like a spell from a fairy tale! I love working with soft yarn (of course!), so if my project unraveled after a year I would remake it. Guess I’d always be busy. But without the wicked spell, there is your yarn, which has a lovely hand and stays put! Hope I win. Those yarns look yummy!
I prefer soft yarns and if my projects unraveled after a year; I would just reknit them. More time to enjoy the yarn.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE softer yarns! Wish I could buy all of your lovely yarns!
That is a really tough question. I love working with scatchy yarn, but unfortunately I can’t wear it for longer than an hour as it just makes me so itchy and uncomfortable. Sooooo, I think I’d have to go with the soft yarn that unravels after a year. It would also be a joy to work with, especially with all the luscious fall colours. I’d be in heaven.
Reluctantly, I would take the scratchy but lasting option.
Gorgeous selections. Thank you for the beautiful pattern and instructions to follow. Made a couple of sweaters and would love to do more :).
Yuck, I hate “would-you-rather”s! I’ll pick softest, though. I crochet mostly for the experience, and I do not enjoy scratchy yarn. Ew. …By the way, these fall-colored yarns are beautiful!!
I love to crochet and occasionally knit especially with soft, coxy yarn like yours. It is always beautiful.
Hi Chandi: What a clever question!! I have knitted and crocheted with both scratchy and soft yarns. With the scratchy ones, I just wanted the project to end (no enjoyment)!! My preference, ofcourse, is soft yarn, even if it unraveled in a year. I would start over knowing I could truly enjoy my squishy, soft, loveable project again and again! Blessings, dear Chandi. You keep us on our toes!
As long as I’m knitting, there is a place for both. Thank goodness a good quality yarn doesn’t unravel though!
Softest yarn – for me it’s about the process, the journey. When it’s done, on to the next!
Hi Chandi! What a beautiful selection of yarn! I think I’m an autumn, so these colours resonate! I would choose the soft yarn, it wouldn’t be the first time I have reknit a project! I have a few skeins of scratchy yarn that have been languishing in storage for years, just because they are scratchy! Note to self..donate scratchy yarn!
What a choice! No contest, I LOVE soft, voluptuous yarns and stunning colors. (In fact, reading your emails every morning I lose myself in the patterns and gain inspiration and color my days from the myriad hues and photos that inform your pallettes.)
So, if the project began to unravel after a year, I would try to mend it. If that did not work, I might try to fully unravel it to reuse the yarn if possible.
I would rather go through the trouble of having my project unravel and make use of only the softest of yarns . Easy on my hands, comfortable to wear. My skin being very sensitive, horrible, scratchy yarns would be rough on me!
Can I pick in between? Some not too scratchy and also not super soft yarn that lasts for a few years is what I would pick. If the in between choice isn’t an option, I guess I would choose the soft yarn. I knit for my grandkids a lot, so scratchy yarn wouldn’t work.
lovely autumn colors
Only be able to use the softest yarn, but your projects always unravel after a year. I’d never run out of projects!
I really like working with Soft yarns, so I guess I’ll just have to remake projects every year. Wearing dish scrubbers doesn’t sound fun😉
I would use only the softest yarn, I’d at least get a year of use out of my project. And I could make something new with the unraveled yarn (infinite yarn!). If I had to use scratchy yarn I’d never wear anything I’d make (I know myself). Although maybe I could spin it as a petty revenge business? “A friend you want revenge on? A MIL/SIL/IL you hate? Buy one of my beautiful sweaters, with the scratchies yarn ever. It will be so uncomfortable they’ll hate it, but so thoughtful they can’t throw it away. Ask after it regularly so they have to wear it when they see you!”
Q: “Would you rather have to knit or crochet with scratchy yarn for the rest of your life, or only be able to use the softest yarn, but your projects always unravel after a year?”
My A: Neither of these 2 options; I would prefer to knit with soft yarn that will maintain the project long-term! And why not go for this “option C”, since yarn of this nature is easily available?
The itchy yarn wouldn’t bother me too much and I could always use a softener on the yarn to make it soft.
I would gladly use the softest yarn and do a new pattern everytime. I’d be doing what I love and enjoy doing it. And I’d still buy new pretty color whenever I wanted.
What a fun question! I would take the soft yarn that would unravel after a year. I can’t handle knitting or wearing scratchy yarn so that would have no use to me.
I would use the softest yarn and try new projects after it unravels.
Oh, wow. What a question! 🙂 I think I have to choose the soft yarn. Life’s too short for itchy knitware!
Okay, this is an easy one. I’d rather knit or crochet with the softest yarns and have them unravel in a year. With me, it’s about the process and the way the yarn feels when working with it. The way I look at it, this just creates more opportunities to work with the softest yarns… and get really good at mending!
I’d rather knit and crochet using the softest yarn, and then I could make something new each year!
The soft yarn. I have sensory issues, and I’m typically only making projects for me. So, if the yarn was scratchy, I’d never be able to wear anything I made. Besides, I rarely finish anything anyway, so it’s not much of a difference.
I enjoy the process more than the end product so I would rather use the softest yarn to save my hands from irritation. I can then appreciate my work even more for the year it survives haha
I would use the softest yarn 💕
Hmm… I would use soft yarn and when it unravels, I’ll just make something new with it 🙂
Hi, Chandi. I would much prefer the softest yarns. It is a big part of the pleasure of knitting.
Ahhh that is the worst kind of evil would-you-rather question! I take so long to knit anything that watching it unravel would be heartbreaking, but scratchy yarn is no fun!! I honestly cannot decide.
Most definitely I’d rather the softest yarn, yours perhaps?
Yikes! That is evil! Question being…would UFO’s unravel too, or just finished projects? I’d still have to go with the soft yarn.
I would rather only use soft yarn of course! Scratchy yarn not only is uncomfortable to wear but not nice on the fingers or hands either.
This one is tough… But I wouldn’t enjoy working with nor wearing scratchy yarn, so I guess it’s the other option for me!
I’d rather have soft yarn that lasts forever but better soft yarn for just a year than scratchy yarn any day!
Once you start using yarns with silk and alpaca it is impossible to go back to the scratchy wool yarns.
Wow what a tough question. I think I would rather make things that only last a year with the soft and beautiful yarn. I just don’t like using scratchy yarn anymore.
I would rather be able to use the softest yarn, and have my projects always unravel after a year — that means I have a chance to perfect the pattern — or at least do it better :).
Hi Chandi. I am growing to really love soft yarn (Very new to this quality, as I was recently gifted some Ephemeral and some Moongleam. Such beautiful yarns!). And for me, having soft yarn unravel would mean more fun with the yarn. Imagine — wearing for a year then getting the fun of finding another pattern & playing with the yarn a second time. <3
I pick using soft yarn but having my projects unravel. That just means I can use the yarn again and again!
I would rather knit and crochet with the softest yarn, even if it would unravel after a year. I’d be able to create new and fun projects when it does.
I would have to say soft yarn, because scratchy yarn is just not something I enjoy working with in any project!
Oh my gosh, I am thinking but my answer definitely leads me to soft yarn like your yarn. I know soft yarn is more expensive but is worth it as it is soooo much easier on the hands! Guess I will just have to keep knitting to replace the garments that fall apart🥰
I’d rather use the softest yarn even it unravels after a year. That way I can use & love what I make for a year and then crochet something new for the next one. Best of both things – lovely soft yarn for my hobby & me. 🙂
Ah! Ha! Ha! That question is a no-brainer in my book. Soft, soft, soft all the way, baby! I can’t imagine anyone being in the scratchy yarn camp. Loving the look and feel of the yarn during the making process is part of the enjoyment. Let the cat play with the scratchy stuff! 🙂
I’m fairly new to crochet, Tunisian crochet and eventually I’ll try knitting again. I guess I don’t understand this question. Why would you use yarns that come unraveled? Do yours do this? I’ve never heard this from any other sources. If I was to answer I’d say none of the above. Hmmm. Anyway, I’m entering the contest and love your yarn colors and would like to try some. Now to find room in the budget. Hook on!
No contest. Soft yarn is the winner. It it unravels, it’s and excuse to buy more of your yarn. I knit for charity but they deserve good yarn – so do my fingers.
It would definitely be scratchy yarn for me. I could make the most lovely outer garments; there are so many beautiful patterns for pullovers, jackets, cardigans. And so many beautiful colors in the more “natural” yarns!
I really do love working with soft, silky Expression Fiber Arts yarn and would say that that’s my choice, but I think I have too much old blood in me. I really like the scratchy wool. I love the smell of lanolin, I love the properties of wool. I love to knit with it and feel it sort of stick to my old calloused hands like velcro and the final projects always bring me so much joy.
Scratchy yarn is the worst! I can always knit something else out of the unraveled soft yarn.
I think I would prefer to work with the softest yarn then when it unravels I could use it again! Or swap with my daughter in law as we both love the soft yarns.
Oh! What a question! I think I would rather use the soft one and have it unravel.
I know I won’t use the things made with scratchy yarn, so what’s the point? And it gives me the excuse to keep making things, even the same thing in different color combos.
I may cry some losses… 😥
Tough question. Since I give most of what I make away, and am primarily interested in the process, I think I’d go with the scratchy yarn. Much better that my donees get to keep their gift than to have it fall apart when they have grown to love it. I might answer differently if I were keeping most of what I make. I could always reuse the yarn for another project, or repeat the same one, but you can’t really do that with a gift or donated item.
I rather knit with soft yarns.
Hehehe, I will always choose the softest yarn before the scratchy one……, as long as it doesn’t unravel while I’m wearing it, I’m good🤣
Unfortunately I will have to use scratchy yarn. It takes me a really long time to make stuff, and I would end up not finishing things before they unravel on me.
I would like to knit with soft yarns all the time.
Tough question Chandi! In the end, I can deal with scratchy yarn with some conditioner, but having my projects unravel after a year would break my heaart. I guess I’d be stuk knitting with nasty scratchies until I could wash the item in conditioner. Hmmmm maybe wash the yarn before I knit? LOL Your sinister side has shown itself with this one!
Hello Chandi! Hard question…when I paint I often paint the same subject several times…so I guess I embrace the repetition. Soft yarn would be my answer!
I would rather use the softest yarn, and then bonus I can use it again and again after the annual unravelling.
I’m also the kind of person that hoards art supplies because I don’t want to “use it all up” before I find the perfect project to use it for (spoiler alert, there is no “perfect” project). So this would absolutely solve that problem 😅
Not sure I can answer this question. While I love the fancy yarn I can’t always afford it so make do with what I can get elsewhere. I’m just grateful to have a stash of yarn.
I would love the soft buttery yarn that unravels after a year, with the caveat that I could then reuse the delightful yarn! Cheeky grin!
The soft yarns are so much easier to work with and feel so much nicer on my hands. Sometimes the scratchy yarn makes my hand tired. Definitely the soft yarn.
I would rather have the softest yarn and have it unravel!! I would then make something new with it. I wouldn’t have go buy more yarn, so that would not benefit you😁 i did always have a project to knit.
If i could only use teeth from one vendor, it’s EFA.
Definitely soft! Unraveling after a year only means the beginning of something new.
I would go with the soft yarn and enjoy it till it unraveled, then get some more and do new projects.
Hmmm, my first impulse is to go scratchy, as my skin is not very sensitive to more rustic yarns, but ultimately, it’s about the process rather than the product for me, so sign me up for the soft stuff.
I’d rather use the scratchy yarn and a lot of lotion/hand cream so that my work would last. I work too hard to have it go away in a year.
Without a doubt, only use the softest yarns. Scratchy yarns irritate my skin too much to knit with!
Love the soft yarns for sure!! These are absolutely to die for. Your colors are always so gorgeous. Thank you for another fabulous give-a-way.
Soft….I would make a new design each year.
Haha what a unique question this month! I suppose I’ll choose to use the soft yarn that unravels. I would probably only knit hats anyway so it could be fun to knit more often and try new patterns every year.
What a question! I’d rather use the soft yarn and it only unravels after a year. I’ve used really scratch yarn before when I made bath sponges…. I had such sore fingers and at the end it was an effort to pick it up and finish crocheting the flannel!
The soft yarn without a doubt!
Hi Beautiful Chandi! Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. I think I’d rather use the softest yarn that unravels in a year. I can always repurpose the yarn.
I would like to have good eyes and time to knit or crochet for the rest of my life with any beautiful, good, natural yarn! Scratchy or soft for winter and soft for summer.
Any of your yarns would be wonderful! Scratchy or soft, I will find a purpose. I just can”t wait to be the lucky winner this month!
It would have to be scratchy yarn. It can be softened, but I’m always disappointed when my work gets holes.
Hi Chandi!
I would rather us the softest yarn. When I’m knitting with your pearlescent worsted yarn, it feels so good in my hands that I don’t even want to stop so I just keep going and my projects get done even faster! I literally don’t even want to knit with anything else!
Interesting question. Definitely soft yarn. I’d rather enjoy it for that year than spend tons of time on it, hating every second, and never use it.
Soft yarn ! Beacon DK or twill . The good thing about unraveling every year would force me to make things better.
Easy peasy! The softess yarn, of course. There would be no enjoyment from wearing a scratchy garment. With the softest yarn, although it unravels in a year, would provide an entire year’s worth of enjoyment and use. The scratchy one would just sit it the wardrobe gathering dust.
You have out done yourself again with these stunning colors!! I think I’d rather have to use scratchy yarn. First it may soften up, second if its wool, i can always just felt my projects 😂
Softest yarn and after the years unravel I would take pleasure in crafting again 🧶🧡
I personally do not like scratchy yarn. I prefer a soft yarn on my skin that does not make me itch while knitting or wearing.
Thank you for this opportunity.
Wow these autumn colors are stunning beautiful and scream to be turned into crochet wear.
I‘d do a workshop with and for kids here on Rügen island.
None-hairy and none-scratchy yarn we love most🥰
Cheers from Germany
Hello Chandi. I would have to say that I would prefer to crochet with scratchy yarn. Lol. Love the question!
Oooo, that’s a wild question! I think I would choose the softest to live in the moment, rather than endure scratchy for longevity.
That is a tough question. However, I would go with soft yarn even if it unravels. Because you can just knit again.
I would choose scratchy yarn as I would be able to add a lining to garments and items.
What an interesting question. I would rather knit with the softest, most luxurious yarn. After a year I would just rewind and enjoy the yarn all over again. I had a small skein of qivuit that I unraveled and re knit 3 times!
How about a happy medium… lol. Where the yarn is soft and doesn’t unravel.
Hmmmm….. Because I LOVE to knit and crochet (I love the process and the meditative state it brings) I would probably say the soft yarn. That way I will be always knitting and crocheting! And especially if it is with your exquisitely beautiful yarns, it would be heaven!!!!
I’d choose soft yarn that unravels every time. Your soft yarn feels scrumptious! No one likes scratchy itchy yarn!
I think it would partly depend on what colors the yarns were! If the scratchy yarns were much prettier, then I might have to go with that choice, scratchy or no–sometimes it’s worth the yarn not feeling as nice, to play with colors. But if the soft yarns were also pretty, 100% that. It’s much more fun to knit with soft yarn, and if I have a whole year to enjoy the finished product, and then can enjoy working with the yarn all over again… 🙂
Soft yarn for sure!!
I would much rather make things with the softest yarn because when it starts unraveling you could recycle that yarn for new projects or remake the same.
What a tricky question😅 I think I go for the softest yarn-unravel combo….for me it makes more sense.
I don’t think unravel is always a bad thing, but unusual question I have to say. I opt for the softest yarn, because the knitting experience is much more important than making something fo the iternity.
The softest yarn, because I love to continually knit something new!
I will go with the softest but it unravels after a year. Nothing lasts forever anyway and it will keep me busy.
That is a tricky question! I think I’d rather use soft yarn – there’s wallets another project I want to make!
I’m too slow of a knitter to have it unravel that quickly! So I would have to choose the scratchy yarn and just wear something underneath. By the way, the colors in this giveaway are soooo beautiful 😍
Definitely softest ☺️
Soft yarn that unravels and just keep reusing it.
Scratchy yarn for me. It would break my heart to see all my work unravel before it really gets any use.
Since i rarely make big projects, i would prpbably choose the soft yarn that unravels every year. That way i would always have something to do 🙂
That’s a tough question! I think if I could only have one of those choices it would be using scratchy yarn. I could soften it when my project is finished or make more utilitarian items with it.
I would love to to use the softest yarn, but am concerned about the chemical process used to make some of that yarn soft. I need natural fibers treated naturally or non-toxic.
I’d rather knit and crochet with the softest yarn and make something new after the year.
That’s a tricky question! I think I would rather use the softest yarn and let it unravel. Using scratchy yarn would be harder to work and would take the pleasure and relaxation out of the soft flow of hook and yarn working together.
Ugh ! I choose soft! I can just remake again!
I would have to choose soft…both for the joy while making it and because I would have to work with so much less yarn if it was scratchy. Even with skin balms the scratchy yarn would make me take breaks to let my skin rebuild.
What a great Would You Rather question. I am a new crocheter and new to the wonderful world of exquisite yarns. I would have to choose the softest yarn option and enjoy my project while it lasts. Scratchy yarn not only irritates my mood but it could potentially have long lasting effects on my skin as well. I have recently only begun to learn about the lovely yarn options outside of the generic acrylics at the big box yarn or craft stores. I recently worked up a project with fingering weight organic cotton and it’s the nicest thing I’ve ever made. I never knew there were such lovely, soft, natural, and skin & mood friendly options. I’m literally hooked. I love all the projects and patterns you offer on this beautiful site and would cherish any I close to invest in and make. So definitely the softest for the year project for me, and when it unravels I’ll make something new!!! Happy crafting!
Softest yarn. It’s much easier to make something over and over when you enjoy it. If I could only use scratchy yarn, I may give up knitting altogether.
If I had this softest yarn definitely. I could make different things every year. By the way these are by far my favorite collection of colors.
I would want the softest for sure!
Hello Chandi! I would rather use soft yarn, especially for your beutiful patterns. No matter if my projects unravel after a year!
Soft yarn always!
Hi Chandi!
I would prefer the softest yarn and repair if needed. I’ve given away a lot of my older non-EFA yarns because they aren’t soft or are too scratchy. I’m spoiled now with your BEAUTIFUL yarns. I enjoy all the bases, the varying colors and just everything about EFA! Thanks for all you do for all of us!
Most of my projects are gifts for others so I would have them return the softest yarn so I could make them something new! I am not a fan of scratchy feeling anything but especially my yarn!
What beautiful fall colors. If every project I made unraveled I probably wouldn’t crochet. Scratchy yarn might be warm but not comfortable.
I would choose the softest and most lovely colors. I would not enjoy spending my time on something that I would not wear (scratchy) and my hands would complain a LOT! I would knit or crochet something lovely, enjoy it and know that it had it’s “season”.
What a dilemma! Most of the people I knit for are sensitive to scratchy yarn so I would probably choose the softest yarn and just keep my needles and hooks in perpetual motion…oh wait. I already do that part. Silly me!
Scratchy yarn and will soften it with effort! Beautiful yarn this month.
Softest yarn always!! No matter how long it lasts, the joy of softness outweighs anything else!
Oooh, I think I’m going to have to say the softest yarn and embrace the opportunity to re-engage and re-create my very year. ❤️
Going back and forth in my mind I believe it would have to be the softest. Not sure I would even enjoy the process of making something that won’t feel fabulous on.
If I crocheted with a scratchy yarn, it would be so much better than a project that comes up down after all of the hard work and time that was put into it.
Softest yarn
I love love love soft yarn, but I would choose scratchy yarn. I would hate for something I put so much time and effort into to fall apart after a year, I would be heartbroken.
I would rather have my knits cone apart. Knitting with scratchy yarn would be terrible, uncomfortable to knit and uncomfortable to use.
I’ve never had a chance to knit with soft yarns. I’d love to try them!! If they unravel then I would just make something else…year after year…as long as I’m knitting. Now, I HAVE seen special joins so you don’t have to tie a knot. Since I have only knitted with the scratchy yarns I have not tried these joins. Maybe I could invent a new one that prevents unraveling! It would certainly be worth a try just to work with soft yarns for the first time.
soft yarn. at least you can enjoy using your project for a year and then have the fun of remaking it.
I’d have to go with scratchy yarn and just switch to making “art” projects rather than wearables. As much as working with luscious yarn is joyful in and of itself, at the end of the day I am a product crafter, not a process one.
My husband laughed when I told him about this conundrum. He said I wouldn’t knit anything because I wouldn’t be able to make a decision! So I will show him – I’d knit with the lovelies and risk the decomposition over time. But… sometimes I would also knit wih scratchies so I’d have long-lived ranch wear. See how I solved that?
Soft yarn every time!
Hard choice but I have sensitive skin and anything scratchy would be miserable. I would have to go with soft that unravels.
I’m going to pretend you didn’t ask that question….
I’ll choose the soft yarn, so I can wear the item comfortably. I don’t mind if they unravel; I’ll knit them again!
The softest yarn. That’s the point of crochet for me. The soothing comfort of the yarn moving through my fingers calms my mind and soul. I don’t mind if it unravels. I enjoy the process.
Interesting question! Would choose the softest wool. Once unraveled, the wool can be used again. Think it would actually be fun – can come up with something new and different each time.
Use the softest yarn – if the project unravels after one year, I can always knit or crochet something new with it 🙂
What a question, I love soft and sturdy yarn!
As tempting as it is, I prefer to keep my projects and use scratchy yarn. I would die a bit inside to see something I worked on and poured myself in just disappear like that.
I’d rather use the soft year and have it unravel. Using scratchy yarn would take all the joy out of creating the item and wearing it!
I started to crochet with “barbante” (cotton twine, commonly used in Brazil for crafts like rugs and bags), which is usually very scratchy, so I’d rather have it again and have my creations last for a lifetime than see them going it after such a short time!
These colors!! What a tough question…. But soft yarn always wins with me.
Scratchy Yarns, they can be softened whereas making something that unravels in a year is such a heartbreaking moment, plus costly.
Truly an evil question, but my answer is simple. I would rather use the most luxurious yarn and revel in its beauty for the time that I have with it. There is also the pleasure of creation, so I can use it again and again – it will forever be resurrected anew.
That’s a terrible question!
If, and only if, when my projects unraveled I was able to re use the yarn again I think that would be my answer.
I can’t go back to horrible scratchy yarns, but I can’t bear to think of my projects not lasting either. I still wear a sweater I knitted about 20 years ago. It’s rather larger than it used to be, but then so am I and it is the most comfortable warm item I own. I also gift the majority of things I create and I couldn’t do that if I didn’t think it would last .
You have given me nightmares now haha!
Hi Chandi!!I would love to work with soft yarns. I would definitely get my hands on one soon.
I would like to say easily the softer yarn due to sensory issues but I think I take too long to knit and usually end up doing a lot of charity knits! Maybe I’ll have to learn how to line a project with fleece to help make it bearable… or have to spend a fortune on conditioner!
Softest yarn!
Coarse yarn always makes my hands hurt when knitting it. Much rather go for quality softer yarns. I’ve used efa yarns before and they are dreamy to work with.
Fall inspired colorways are my absolute favorite ! I would have to vote for the softer yarn, even if it unravels after a year 🙂
I will take a project unraveling after a year’s time over scratchy yarn any day.
What a dilemma to decide between. 😟
I would have to choose the softest yarn. I just can’t stand rough scratchy yarn. I don’t know how people can work with the yarn for dish scrubbers.
I guess I’m spoiled by the beautifully soft yarns that you offer Chandi. Thank you for that.
I would take the softest yarn and project unravels after a year. I would then use the yarn to make something else.
I have to say I really liked two of the answers… ‘I refuse to pick’ and ‘soft, but with scratchy added to stabilize the project’. I’d probably go with the scratchy, but using softener afterward, simply because I give away everything I make. I’d be disappointed if I spent the time to make a gift, only to have it fall apart.
That’s easy I would use the softest yarn and have the pleasure of remaking the projects each year.
I would never have thought of asking this. I would much rather knit/crochet with soft yarn and enjoy it for a year. After it unravels, I can make something new!
What a conundrum! I enjoy the process of making as much as the final product, but if I really have to pick, I’d say that softness is an appreciated bonus that still comes second to a well-made and lasting heirloom. After all, I really enjoy natural fibers, and they do tend to be a bit scratchier. It doesn’t bother me too much. As long as it’s not too scratchy…
I’d definitely rather use the softest yarn but my projects unravel after a year…I hate using scratchy yarn😩
I would go with Softest, even though it unravels. Love soft yarns
Hmmm tough one. But softest would win out. Even if my projects unravelled. I would have the fun of reworking it. :). Sorry for the temp presents folks.lol but then you get a whole new article providing you bring me back the yarn But its a toughie. xx
Hmmm…. not liking my choices….lol! I would have to go with the soft yarn but would be very sad at the end of one year.
I would want the soft. After a year when it unravels make something new.
Hello Beutiful Chandi!
Hoping you are having a lovely week💖💖
As for your question, I’m actually a novice crocheter and still finding my comfort yarn.. started with baby yarns to make dresses/gift projects for my toddler 🥰🥰 – and I prefer softer yarns so far! Surely not unravelling my projects, this will remain in my closet for some years to come so that my daughter can appreciate some of this art pieces! 🤭
Love and lot of good wishes for your creative journey, you and your colour works and very very pretty 😍
My hands are very sensitive, so softness is a must.
Hi Chandi. I think I would rather use the soft yarn, although it would be difficult to lose something you work so hard on after a year.
Unravel, hands down. Each project can then be redone, or completely changed into a new soft loveable thing.
Thank you for offering such a generous prize for whomever wins! As for the preference, I love both looks but would prefer the buttery softness and choose a pattern and methods to reduce the risk of unraveling. Oh, and I’m trying to follow in my grandmother’s footsteps and knitting! She was soo good and such a blessing while she was with us.
Absolutely soft yarn! The color of these yarns are absolutely beautiful. There is nothing worse than making a project and trying to wear it when it doesn’t feel great next to the skin.
The projects that you make have beautiful drape to them and that is a humongous bonus. The good news is you will have enjoyed that project for a year.
I’d say I’d rather use softer but unraveling yarn. I don’t mind reworking projects but might get bummed after a while if it happened EVERY time.
What absolutely lovely fall colors! I would rather use the softest yarn. If it unravels you might be able to use it again for a different project. Thank you for the wonderful give away!
I would rather only be able to use the softest yarn, there’s no fun in working with scratchy yarn!
Tough choice since some of my large projects take me over a year to finish. I would have to use the scratchy yarn just so a project could be complete
I would rather complete projects with scratchy yarn than have them unravel after a year. Holding my completed projects is so fundamental to my satisfaction with this hobby. I don’t think I would have the same respect for myself to have all my projects unravel.
Fun question 🙂 I’d choose to work with soft yarn (that’s one of the things what makes knitting so relaxing for me). Then when it unravels after a year, I get “free” yarn to make something new! The problem comes with giving gifts that only last for a year…
Ooo! This is a hard one 😅 I think I’d have to work with scratchy yarn. I’d hate to keep remaking my favorite projects.
I have a son that likes scratchy yarn, didn’t matter if it was knitted or crocheted. He appreciated whatever was made. Hard on the hands, but was worth his smiles. So scratchy, so it doesn’t unravel. (And some projects take longer than a year, so it would be unraveling before project was finished, with the softest yarn.)
CHANDI, I would love o use your lovely, squishy, so soft and beautiful yarn to make beautiful projects, but to have it unravel after a year is not a good thing😞. The only other thing to do with it is repurpose the yarn and keep making more beautiful things
For me it’s all about the proces, so soft yarn all the way!
That’s a difficult question! I’d prefer knitting with the softest yarn because what I really enjoy is the process.
I have sensitive skin so I’d prefer knitting with the softest yarn
Wow interesting question and a little on the evil side lol. I would have to say the scratchy yarn knowing how I feel when something I worked so hard on breaks. I could make baskets or other things that would be fine to be scratchy. Maybe like some of the suggestions I’d find a way to soften the yarn after the piece is complete.
I’d definitely choose softest yarn that unravels later. Who wants to wear or cuddle scratchy stuff?
Softest yarn!
The soft one. At least I would use it with pleasure for a short time instead of having something I don’t want to wear at all.
Hmm. Got to go with the soft. I enjoy collecting yarn…soft wins. I enjoy crocheting….soft wins again. I enjoy wearing or using items I have crocheted….so with soft I can only enjoy them for a year…o, well. I enjoy gifting items I have crocheted…oops! Ultimately, soft wins.
I’d choose soft, unraveling yarn too. If it falls apart after a year, it’s just a good reminder to appreciate and enjoy what I have in the moment.
Lovely colors and I need new yarn! I would take either soft or scratchy as I could make something out of either kind!
I would rather have the softest yarn to crochet with and if it unravels after a year I can always crochet the same or different pattern with the yarn!
I would choose the softest yarn. It would be a pleasure to knit and I’d get a full year to enjoy the finished piece before it unraveled. 😊
Oooh! I would rather work with the softest yarn and then it unravel after a year. I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the scratchy yarn anyways so a year worth of enjoyment means more (: What an incredibly gorgeous and generous giveaway! Thank you for the opportunity and for being a light of inspiration to those around you!
This is a mean question! I prefer softer yarns due to sensory issues. However, if they would unravel after a year, then they wouldn’t be worth making to me. I try VERY hard not to ever make the same item more than once. So, I would take the scratchy yarn and wear gloves as I was crocheting! (I’m not certain I could knit as well with gloves on.) Thanks again for all of the AMAZING patterns and scrumptious yarn you share with us! –Gwendy from Mid-Missouri
I would rather have thr softest yarn. I wouldn’t complete any projects with scratchy yarn because it would make my hands hurt.
I would like to use the softest yarn, and then continue to have a reason to keep knitting something new.
I like the soft comfort. I would choose that.
Gotta have soft yarn! An annual revisit to my favorite patterns is not so bad! Plus, the loved ones I give my project to would have to come see me every year to get their stuff fixed! It’s a win all around of you away me!
What a question, lol. Scratchy yarn and hopefully I can soften it up myself!😁😁
I would prefer the softer yarn. If it is a garment, then I can underline it with cotton or silk to make it last longer.
Now Chandi… what kind of a crazy question is that! 🤣
Well this has the answer that it depends on the washed and blocked yarn.
I’ve worked with ‘rough stringy yarn’ and have it bloom into the most amazing puffed up squishy softness that seems to get better and better with every wash and wears well over the years.
Ive worked with soft silky slippy yarns… gorgeous to wear but they seem to keep growing in some cases.
Now a soft yarn that unravels… I guess one would have the pleasure of recycling and making a whole new something for the wardrobe with this yarn… that would save our pennies but not so great for you…… 😘
I have to say both because it’s all a part of ‘my’ process.
Absolutely the soft yarn option. I could always remake each project!
I’ll take the soft yarn and deal with the annual u ravel party. I’m used to frustration…I’m a scientist.
Oh, give me a rustic yarn any day of the week! I prefer to knit things for outdoor use, where drability is key.
Definitely soft yarn for items snuggling with or wearing. Working with scratchy yarn is just not enjoyable, though could be tolerated for a project you would need the durability. Thankfully we have so many beautiful options of soft and durable yarn today. Many of which you use with your beautiful color ways and offer to us for a truly rewarding knitting experience. 🙂
I would rather use soft yarn. It’s it’s too scratchy I’ll never wear it anyway, so what would be the point?
I would choose to use soft yarns just for the feel when I am crafting. However I would actually use scratchy yarn so my projects can last a long time for my friends and family. Beside once they are washed they would soften up.
I am a weaver and I love using the softest yarn possible for the weaving everything, including wall hangings, pillows, blankets, scarves, shawls, and clothing. I get as much enjoyment out of the weaving as I do of the displaying, wearing, or gifting. Soft yarn is important for that enjoyment, touching the fibers as I weave, feeling the textures of different fibers, plus the knowledge of knowing this is the best I can do/give. Namaste 🪷
Well, scratchy yarn is deemed unusable whatever you make unless it’s treatable. Then if the softest yarn will unravel in a year, it would be tough having to re-knit every year. So, If I had to choose between the two for the rest of my life, I would pick the softest yarn so I can enjoy the process again and again even if the time to enjoy the end result is only a year. The knitting and crocheting journey can still be a pleasure.
Oh, definitely soft. Even if I only get to wear it for a year., it would be worth it. Don’t like skratchy at all.
Given how long I take to finish a project, I’m doomed to scratchy yarn for eternity 😔! On a happy note, I LOVE all the colors in this months giveaway, they are just so beautiful!
Hi Chandi. I never gave it much thought but I’ve never knit or crochet with a scratchy yarn so I guess I’ll go with the soft 😊. Thank you so much 💓
Oh my goodness! I think I’d use the scratchy yarn but make projects that last. It’d be a lot of bags and amigurumi, I think, though! I hate the thought of scratchy yarn while doing fiber arts, but if mine always unraveled after a year, I’d be convinced that I wasn’t able to “do it right”, and THAT would depress me.
What a silly question. I guess the soft yarn, since I am a delicate flower and can’t stand anything scratchy.
I really love soft and squishy yarns, but unraveling after a month makes it not so attractive. So my preference in this instance is scratchy yarn. There are always under garments to keep from itching too much. 🤪
I would rather knit with the softest yarn and get the joy of re-knitting the project or knitting something new.
Tough one! Guess will have to go with scratchy yarn 🧶
I only use soft yarn! Always! Life is too short to knit with scratchy yarn!!
Since scratchy yarn might do a number on my aging hands, I’d have to choose the softest of yarns.
Hmmmm……I would use the softest yarns. (EFA has me spoiled).
But, I would not completely finish, leaving a row or a few stitches … then it would last forever, right? And yes, I have worn a shawl that was not finished to a wedding. No one knew but me.
I would use the softer yarn, each time it unraveled I could make something new….being that I’m slightly sensitive, I couldn’t even use the scratchy anyway.
I would much rather use soft, beautiful yarn like yours, crochet wonderful items, enjoy them for a year. And then when they unravel, I’ll have the opportunity to work with the soft, beautiful yarn again and make something else to enjoy. It’s the process of making, working with great materials and act of creating; that’s what I love about fiber arts. ❣️
I think it would depend on the project. I just got done making scarves for everyone in my family. Using the same pattern, I used a softer yarn from EFA for my sisters and niece but found some wool in the stash I inherited from my grandma that I used for my dad. Each scarf turned out great. My sisters appreciated the softness and drape, and my dad appreciated that I didn’t buy new yarn for him 😉 and the sturdiness
I’d rather have scratchy but lasting. You can always wear it over something else or only make non-wearing items.
Oh, not the scratchy one, no way, that burn my skin; so rather unraveling. 😀
I would rather crochet with scratchy yarn since I’m used to it. I can soften scratchy yarn. I’d rather not have my projects unravel after a year.
I would crochet with scratchy yarn, you didn’t say I couldn’t wash it in fabric softener. Also I would hate to see something I wounded so hard on come undone after only a year.
Love knitting shawls with soft, autumn colors; burnt oranges and reds
Softest yarn for sure! I’d really enjoy the process of making something over and over and the item I made for as long as it lasts 🙂
Good, soft yarn AND last!
But if I can’t have that, good yarn I guess.
I don’t have a year idea but I do already use scratchy yarn because I can’t afford to buy anything else.
Ooo what an uncomfortable question! I’d prefer the soft yarn, but I would just pet, not make. <3
I’m team softest yarn!
I like to make garments and actually wear them. Since I know that I wouldn’t really wear them if they are scratchy it simply would be a watse to work with scratchy yarn. So I rather have my things unravel after a year and start new projects. Also the unraveling it gives more space for new projects!
Hi!
I think I’d rather knit with the scratchy yarn. I can get behind a rustic wool sweater! It would be heartbreaking to knit something, putting myself into that piece, for it to unravel. So I’d rather knit with scratchy wool.
I’d love to crochet with the soft yarn but I love to give some pieces away. It would be awful if it would fall apart!!
If it unravels a year after I finish it, I’ll take the soft yarn. If it unravels, that just means I get to use the soft yarn for a new project. And I didn’t have to pull it out myself.
Definitely the softest yarn and have it unravel. That way I could make beautiful things and update them as the years go on or my tastes change.
I would have something soft and warm, rather than scratchy. If it unravels, I can always user it (right?!). If not, then I can still make something else soft and squishy.
I think I would have to go with crocheting with soft yummy yarn and have the project unravel. Scratchy yarn would make me nuts
Something made with a scratchy yarn could be lined with the softest fabric. That would work for me. Most of what I make are gifts. When I’m working on a persons gift they’re sitting with me in my mind and in my heart.
Scratchy yarn I guess 😀
Wow, what a question!
Scratchy yarn is out. Not only would it be terrible to work with but you wouldn’t be able to wear it.
Now soft yarn unraveling after a year would be okay. Although loving something and enjoying it for years after all that hard work is our goal but if you have to remake something every year it won’t be out of style, you’ll always have an up to date with what you love in the closet.
What an interesting question! Seeing as I’m always crocheting something, I’d rather use the softest yarn and only have it last a year. I’d be afraid the scratchy yarn would wear my fingers down to nubs. 😂🤣😂
In a perfect world i would love to use the safest yarn the rest of my life
I would use scratchy yarn because I can always wash it with fabric softener. I do like my projects to last. I have a new grandson, & I’m always making items for him.
Hello! My name is Debbie, and given these two choices, I would choose knitting with the loveliest, softest yarn possible. I would wear each piece much as possible in that given year, and then unravel them and make something new and beautiful. Thank you having this generous give away!
I’m going with soft yarn and then knitting baby items and socks.
I’d rather knit and crochet with the scratchiest yarn for the rest of my life 😁
Hi Chandi, I would prefer to use the softest yarn; nothing is better than something that is comfortable on the skin. I’d also just keep creating new pieces that will make me feel just as cozy since they’d keep unraveling…😄
Thank you for the chance to win all that yummy goodness…🥰
Scratchy
Wow that’s really a tough one! It takes over me a year to make some things as I don’t knit often
Softest yarn – texture issues make it a MUST!!!
I would rather have the project unravel. Knowing that the project is temporary would make me appreciate it’s beauty and my work towards it more.
What a great question, I would rather the softest yarn over and over because then I get the joy of making something new each year and the chance to perfect any mistakes I made last time. I don’t need more things in my cupboard I just love the hobby.
The softest, a never ending supply of gorgeous yarn and opportunities. New creations, repeat a loved pattern, so many possibilities. Can’t stand scratchy yarn and even seems mean as horse blankets.
I would rather have things unravel, I can always redo the projects, but I would stop knitting if I could only use scratchy yarn
I’d have to go with the scratchy yarn. I could make outerwear that would last. Earthy crunchy sweaters and vests that I’d wear something underneath so they wouldn’t touch my skin. And then some warm slippers and mittens and hats and rugs that I could felt, and then embroider with woodland designs in that scratchy yarn that I dyed myself in beautiful colors. Oh yeah, I’m that scratchy yarn girl!
I would want to use the softest yarns. It just makes you feel hugged when you wear garments from soft yarn.
I would use the softest yarn so I would enjoy the process over and over again! Just think of all the wonderful creations!
Such a hard choice, I would pick scratchy if I had to.
I would definitely rather use the softest yarn ! I love the process of knitting and crocheting so I love use high quality yarn 🧶 🧶🧶
Mmmm I’d rather used the softest yarn and enjoy it than scratchy yarn, we are always knitting new things so is like having and infinity use for the yarn …. And if it is always soft even better 😊
Who doesnt love soft yarn! But I would probably choose the scratchy yarn also, hopefully it would soften with time. As I mostly knit sweaters, I could always wear something underneath. If I only knit hats, I would probably choose the soft yarn and make several every year 😅
I’d knit with the softest yarn because when it fell apart I could always redo it and if I didn’t like the project I could knit something new.
I’ve worked with scratchy and had my projects come apart. Scratchy is an easier fix I think. There’s so many ways to soften, but having things come apart down the road is such a personal failure for me – I’m creating things that are meant to last years or hopefully a lifetime if I’ve done it right.
Sign me up to knit with scratchy yarn for the rest of my life instead of living with the frustration of unraveling soft yarn. I’d knit rugs with chunky scratchy yarn and handbags and totes to felt.
Oh no! I think I would have to choose the scratchy yarn. I’m not fast enough at finishing projects to re-do them every year!
Scratchy.. I would hate to give a baby gift and it fall apart on the little one!
Definitely the soft, cause the scratches one itching already with the thought of it. I won’t wear the result or even start a project with it. So I have no use for it.
I don’t enjoy knitting with scratchy yarn and I can’t stand wearing itchy garments, so that is not an option. I would use the soft yarn. That way I would get the chance to knit with it again when it unravels.
I’m too sensitive to use scratchy yarn. Even if the item lasted forever, there would be no point because I would never wear it. I would probably never finish knitting it and I don’t have any friends who would be able to use something scratchy. I would experiment and find a way to keep the FOs from unraveling.
Scratchy yarn forever, I feel at some point something can be done about the “feel” of the yarn!
If I had to be stuck with the other I feel it would give me more opportunity for projects to be upgraded.
For me, it would depend on the fiber content. Scratchy wool would be fine, but not an acrylic super saver yarn.. I probably wouldn’t want a soft acrylic either, it would need to be cashmere or something. Yes, I confess, I’m a fiber snob! I’m getting help though 😂
I have to say soft yarn for the win, don’t like scratchy yarn
I’d rather have the soft squishy yarn & a project that unraveled after a year (which it won’t do) than scratchy yarn. I’ve never been able to wear scratchy yarn. Besides being very uncomfortable, it’s a constant distraction so it’s difficult to focus on anything else. My mom used scratchy woolen yarn because that’s all she had. I did my best to put some other fabric between the scratchy woolen yarn and my skin, even mittens.
I think this is a trick question. It would majorly depend upon if the yarn was natural or plastic. If it’s natural yarn I would take both knit or crochet them together ether so that my project is both soft and long lasting.
Yarn that unravels🤔 hmmmmm, most definitely the soft yarn! I’ve worked with scratchy yarns and they are NO fun. It’s the process for me, give me the squishy soft yarn every time🥰
Your fibers are beautiful!!!
If the scratchy yarn is wool then I would rather knit with scratchy yarn for the rest of my life.
That’s brutal and required some thinking, but I’m gonna go with soft yarn. I have an entire year to enjoy it, and then I can knit something new with the soft yarn after it unravels. Ha ha. Plus, scratchy yarn – ewwwww.
What an unusual question! Kudos!
Scratchy: Most items are gifts so I would hate for the item to unravel on them. I would sorely miss your yarns though.
Wishing you good tidings.
I like the thoughtful question. I would prefer to keep my worked pieced longer than a year. I wouldn’t like not being able to look at my past work.
Omg what a funny question! I would definitely have to say the scratchy yarn.
I would rather use the softest yarn. My skin really hates the scratchy stuff. Thanks for the giveaway!
The softest yarn. If it unravels then I can either remake what it was to begin with or make something new. I would be able to continue to enjoy the soft, beautiful yarn.
Hi, I would rather my projects unravel after a year than work with scratchy yarn. The feel of the yarn while working is a major part of the therapy I get from crafting and the reason I do it. I think I would quit and find something else if I could only work with scratchy yarn.
It would have to be the softest yarn because if it’s scrathcy I probably would never finish another project. At least with the softest yarn I would get to enjoy my finished projects for a year.
