Hello, my sweet! I am incredibly EXCITED to announce that Clue #3 for our 2023 yearlong Mystery Knit Along (MKAL) is here! Our first yearlong MKAL in 2022 was wildly popular, so we’re thrilled to do it with you again! I do hope you’ll read on to learn how you can join in on the fun because there’s still plenty of time to be a part of it!
Advertence was designed by Janica York Carter. She says, “The word advertence shares roots with a familiar marketing tool, but its definition is notable: the process of paying attention to, of minding. In the midst of constant stimuli designed to encourage consumption, knitting provides a calm respite for creation, a moment of mindfulness. Mosaic knitting, in particular, breaks down complexities into straightforward steps. Combining simple knit and slip stitches only and working with just one color at a time, you can create intricate designs that meld into each other almost imperceptibly.Â
Advertence is formed from yarn that is sumptuous in both color and texture. As you knit each section, each row, each stitch, hone your focus. Be mindful of the feel of the yarn as it slips through your fingers. Note the soft click of the needles. Watch as each movement creates a stitch that flows into another to form unique patterns. Breathe deeply and slowly, pull your tongue away from the roof of your mouth as you unclench your jaw, and drop your shoulders down and back. Know that in this moment, you are creating art, and enjoy the process.”
This pattern is an Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate level pattern and is for those knitters who know how to knit, purl, and slip stitches, and want to learn basic Mosaic knitting techniques.
To knit Advertence, you will need 12 different colored skeins of our luxurious, dreamy soft Mirage Sport yarn or an equivalent amount of yarn/yardage in another sport-weight yarn. For Clue #3, we used Cacti Mirage Sport.
For another option, we have also compiled a set of recommended Luster Sport colors, if you would like to use that yarn base instead. The first three clue colors in Luster Sport are: Clue 1 – Atlas, Clue 2 – Powdered Sugar Cookies, and Clue 3 – Fisherman.
Each month, we’ll let you know which color we used for that clue, but you can also create your own color combination. We DO recommend that you choose colors with a good amount of contrast among them, and knit Advertence with at least two different colors.
Mirage Sport is a beautiful, sport-weight blend of 70% Superwash Merino Wool, 10% Natural Baby Camel, 10% Cashmere, and 10% Mulberry Silk. So unbelievably scrumptious! Luscious and supremely soft with a gorgeous drape and structure. 350 yds/320 m per skein.
While gauge is not crucial to this project, it will affect the amount of yarn needed. If you wish to make a blanket that only uses 12 skeins of Mirage Sport yarn, you’ll want to make sure you match the gauge listed in the pattern.
We filmed a video for Clue #3. Take a look to learn more about this month’s clue and the 2023 Mystery Knit Along.
We will also be having a yearlong contest for this pattern with prizes! It will be hosted solely on Ravelry. Click HERE to learn more and to sign up for the MKAL. I hope you’ll join us to get in on all the fun!
I appreciate you reading this far, and if you’d love to get brand new, premium knit and crochet patterns weekly, just hop onto our email list there on the site. We list new patterns most Fridays, and many are free for a limited time. I hope to see you there.
Talk to ya soon.
XOXOXOÂ Chandi
My goodness lady, your hand dyed yarns are beautiful. I only recently decided I wanted to take up crochet again as it’s been at least forty years since I held a hook. I had no idea of the number of different yarns available today. Looking through your yarns reminds me of my childhood days of looking through the Sears and Roebuck catalogues at Christmas and wishing for things that Santa might bring. Unfortunately my budget does not allow me to afford your lovely yarns. One day I would love to try a lighter weight yarn as our Texas heat makes it quite unbearable to wear the 4 weight big box yarns I use for our short winters. However, I love to follow along and watch your tutorials. Your soothing voice and sweet soul relax me and once again I am crocheting. It’s very calming and helps me through many a trying day. Thanks for being!
