Hello, my sweet snowdrop! I am incredibly pleased to announce our 2023 yearlong Mystery Crochet Along (MCAL) is here! Our first yearlong MCAL in 2022 was wildly popular, so we can’t wait to do it with you again! I do hope you’ll read on to learn how you can join in on the fun.

Multivalence was designed by Janica York Carter. She says, “The meditative properties of mandalas are appreciated by cultures and philosophies throughout the world. A mandala’s circular form ranges from simple to intricate, inspiring moments of inward and outward reflection. People create mandalas from a variety of materials, from the impermanence of sand to the solidity of carved stone. Multivalence is formed from yarn that is sumptuous in both color and texture. As you crochet each section, each round, each stitch, hone your focus. Be mindful of the feel of the yarn as it slips through your fingers. Note the soft sounds of the hook moving through the yarn. Watch as each movement creates a stitch that flows into another to form unique patterns. Breathe deeply and slowly, pull your tongue away from the roof of your mouth as you unclench your jaw, and drop your shoulders down and back. Know that in this moment, you are creating art, and enjoy the process.”

This pattern is an Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate level pattern and is for those crocheters who are ready to combine a variety of stitches while working in the round.

To crochet Multivalence, you will need 12 different colored skeins of our luxurious, dreamy soft Mirage Sport yarn or an equivalent amount of yarn/yardage in another sport-weight yarn. For Clue #1, we used Maple Mirage Sport.

Each month, we’ll let you know which color we used for that clue, but you can also create your own color combination. We DO recommend that you choose colors with a good amount of contrast among them, and crochet Multivalence with at least two different colors.

Mirage Sport is a beautiful, sport-weight blend of 70% Superwash Merino Wool, 10% Natural Baby Camel, 10% Cashmere, and 10% Mulberry Silk. So unbelievably scrumptious! Luscious and supremely soft with a gorgeous drape and structure. 350 yds/320 m per skein.

While gauge is not crucial to this project, it will affect the amount of yarn needed. If you wish to make a blanket that only uses 12 skeins of Mirage Sport yarn, you’ll want to make sure you match the gauge listed in the pattern.

We filmed a video for Clue #1. Take a look to learn more about the 2023 Mystery Crochet Along, and follow along as I show you how to work the special stitches included in Clue #1.

We will also be having a yearlong contest for this pattern with prizes! It will be hosted solely on Ravelry. Click HERE to learn more and to sign up for the MCAL. I hope you’ll join us to get in on all the fun!
