Hello, my sweet sunbeam! This week, I have a special treat to share with you. It is a dragonfly inspired, crochet shawl called Anisoptera, and I’d love to tell you more about it!
Anisoptera was designed by Elisabeth Carr. When asked about this design, Elisabeth said, “Anisoptera stands for ‘dragonfly.’ Dragonflies symbolize transformation, creativity, and self-realization, and they remind us to live life to the fullest. The special stitches in this shawl are meant to resemble dragonflies in flight. The main rows of each section are done in a double crochet and a double crochet front/back loop only pattern that reveals loops on the front side. These front loops are where we attach our dragonflies. This shawl is worked from the bottom up in a rectangular shape.”
This Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate level pattern is for those crocheters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Skills/concepts include color changes, double crochets in the front or back loop, and creating stitches several rows below and/or stitches behind.
Our Pearlescent Fingering yarn is perfect for this shawl. This yarn is so soft and has beautiful drape. It is a dreamy, single-ply yarn that takes the dye incredibly well, which results in fabulous, hand-dyed shades! It is made with 50% Superwash Merino Wool and 50% Mulberry Silk.
The sample shown here used approximately 1660 yds/1518 m total: Color A: 430 yds/393 m, Color B: 430 yds/393 m, Color C: 430 yds/393 m, and Color D: 370 yds/339 m. The sample shawl was made with our Forest Grove Hues kit.

I haven’t really thought what or planned what I would like to knit or crochet for the New Year as I’m trying to finish knitting up the last of my Christmas presents but seeing all that gorgeous yarn makes me want to try and crochet a sweater for the first time!
