Hello, my sweet sunbeam! Here is Clue #7 for our Mystery Crochet Along (MCAL)! Keep reading to learn more, and find out how you can still join in on the fun!
Hearthside was designed by Jane Vanselous. She says, “I have long admired quilters and their dedication to their craft. The many hours required to choose just the right fabrics, hand cut the various pieces, assemble them precisely, and then work the countless, little stitches to finish it all off truly amazes me. What a testament of love for what they do, as well as for the lucky recipient of their art!
The design of this blanket is loosely based on a well-known quilt pattern. By breaking it down into 12 manageable sections, you will be able to create your own treasure. Use the warm color palette chosen for this Mystery CAL to invoke visions of curling up hearthside with loved ones in front of a crackling fire.”
This pattern is an Adventurous Beginner level pattern and is for those crocheters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations.
Hearthside is made with 12 skeins of our Enduring Worsted yarn. We will have two recommended color options each month – a cool color and a warm color. As a treat, we will also have these same colors on our Luster Worsted base.
For July, the warm color is Furiends, and the cool color is Fugue. However, you can crochet your blanket with any colors you choose. Please note, swatching is important to ensure that your blanket edges are even and that you have enough yardage to complete your monthly section, as you should only need one skein per clue.
Each month, we will release a new clue for the pattern, so all you have to do is sign in and re-download the pattern each month once a new clue has been released.
We filmed a short video about Clue #7. Take a look here:
We will also be having a yearlong contest with prizes for this pattern! It will be hosted solely on Ravelry.

I would love doing another blanket. I have been participating in both the crochet and knit year-longs and have so enjoyed not only the project but the true sense of community that you and the EFA team have fostered. I seriously wasn’t going to take on the MCAL as I was a very newly minted knitter and thought it would be too much to take on with my job but 5 months in I was jonesing for the sense of community, participation, and satisfaction of a job well done and so I started the MCAL as well. All of the EFA team is so helpful and supportive and you have collected a fantastic group of makers as well.
My suggestion for next year is to start teasing the news as early as possible and getting sign-ups started. Then send emails to everyone about a month prior to the start notifying of what the first colorway is going to be and get those sales started ahead of time so everyone has yarn, needles, and/or hooks in hand ready to go for the release of the 1st clue then just keep releasing the yarn a month in advance of the clue. Put 3 skein kits together for late joiner’s to get their yarn and get started and as a teaser to others who haven’t heard of the year long M-A-L. Maybe having a lay-away program for people like me who are committed to following the color selection as it comes out. I would have been willing to pay for the yarn in advance of release and really enjoying the surprise as each months squishy mail arrives and the color is revealed ahead of the release of the pattern. If you don’t release the colorway to the general public until after the release of the clue there won’t be much incentive to “leak” the color to those who didn’t pre-purchase.
I am loving the MCAL, I am using the yarn base but my own color scheme-for the most part. I will admit that using the suggested colors may work out more economical but when I actually see the yarn and the different flecks of colors up close I tend to experiment with other colors options.
I would like another large project like a blanket, because being able to finish the clues for the month helps me with the feeling of accomplishment. However, whatever is decided would work for me.
