Hello, my lil’ buttercup! This week, I want to share with you a challenging and unique, knitted shawl called Aisling. Read on to learn more about this showstopper!

Aisling was designed by Jane Vanselous and was inspired by a vacation to Ireland. When asked about this shawl, she said, “Ireland is well known for its ’40 shades of green,’ but in Autumn, you will also find a vast array of golds, rusts, and browns, as well as many shades of blue in both water and sky. The patchwork of fields, divided by grey and white stone walls, are a reminder of the tenacity of the people who created them. Fascinating stone structures are plentiful, such as the impressive, ancient site of Newgrange, a large, circular passage tomb and an ancient temple. At over 5,000 years old, it is older than Stonehenge and the Great Pyramids.”

“This boomerang shaped shawl was inspired by the colors and textures of the land. Cables and slipped stitches create lines and circles to represent the divisions of fields, an abundance of stones, and the rich heritage of the Irish people.”

This Advanced level pattern is for the adventurous knitter who loves to tackle something a bit more complicated. This pattern is suitable for any knitter who is comfortable with a variety of cable stitches.

Aisling uses our cuddly and soft CashSilk Sock yarn. This is a super soft and luxurious sock yarn! It has a gorgeous drape, a beautiful glow, and great stitch definition. It is made with 75% Superwash Merino Wool, 15% Cashmere, and 10% Silk.

The sample shawl was made with our Bryna Hues kit. However, you can knit this shawl with any three colors or any fingering weight yarn that you desire.

Our sample used 1,000 yds (915 m) total [Color A: 345 yds (316 m), Color B: 300 yds (274 m), and Color C: 355 yds (325 m)].

We filmed a video tutorial for you showing you how to work the special stitches in this shawl. Take a look:
