Hello, my beautiful rainbow! Today, we are releasing our second clue for our yearlong Mystery Knit Along blanket. Read on to learn more and to find out how you can join in on the fun!
Perseverance was designed by Jane Vanselous. She says, “Large projects can seem daunting, especially when they may stretch your skills. Breaking them up into manageable pieces is a great way to approach them. In this Mystery KAL blanket, you will work just one section at a time. Each section uses one color and focuses on one stitch pattern. Some of these will be repeated in later sections. Using this method, all you will need is a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a little perseverance to be successful!”
This pattern is an Adventurous Beginner level pattern and is for those knitters who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations.
Perseverance is made with 12 skeins of our Enduring Worsted or Luster Worsted yarn. We will have two color options for each month – a cool color and a warm color.
For February, the cool color is Nightlife, and the warm color is New York at Night. However, you can make your blanket with any colors you choose. Please note, swatching is important to ensure that your blanket edges are even and that you have enough yardage to complete your monthly section, as you should only need one skein per clue.
Every month, we will release a new clue for the pattern, so all you have to do is sign in and re-download the pattern each month a new clue is released.
We filmed a video tutorial for you showing you how to Clue #2. Take a look:
With this pattern, we will also be having a yearlong contest with prizes! It will be hosted solely on Ravelry.

Could you please post a video of you knitting MKAL #2 with 2 colours as instructed in the written instructions, so to show how the work looks being knitted onto MKAL #1, how to use both yarns, etc. (The written instructions mention dropping colours but you make no mention of that in your video.) I have a hard time seeing if my right side work resembles yours as yours is in one colour only and mine has two. Thank you very much. I look forward to seeing what this blanket will look like at the end of the year.
Hi, Anne. The MKAL Ravelry thread is really the best place to get your MKAL question answered and to see other people’s progress, which should help you visualize the what section two should look like. You can find that thread at https://www.ravelry.com/discuss/expression-fiber-arts/4174979/1-25
MKAL#2 Rows 106 and 114 : are the instructions correct where there is one M1 and one M1p per each of these rows? (Instead of having the same type of increase (M1 or M1p) per row) Thank you.
Let me check with the designer to confirm.
They are correct as written. The type of increase follows the pattern. If the next stitch would be knit, you do the M1, if the next stitch would be purl, you do the M1p. Hope that helps! Have a great day!
Am I the only person on the planet who can’t figure out how to get more than the first MKAL pattern and more than the first 2 skeins of yarn? This is my first time doing something like this (but I’ve been a knitter for about 20 years) and I’d really like to participate!
Each month when we add the next clue (section) to the pattern, you’ll need to re-download the Perseverance pattern, which will then have the next set of instructions. You can find that at https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/perseverance-mkal-blanket.html
If you were logged in to your account when you first downloaded the pattern, you can log in to your account and go to your completed orders. Select the order with the Perseverance pattern, and click the link to download it. The file will have been updated with the next set of instructions. If you weren’t logged in when you first downloaded the pattern, just add it to your cart, and complete checkout. Then use the link to download the pattern.
As for yarn colors, you’ll only need one color per clue (month/section), and each month when we release the next clue, we’ll recommend colors for that section. However, you can use any yarn in any colors that you like. You’ll find a list of the monthly, recommended colors in the Perseverance product listing: https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/perseverance-mkal-blanket.html
Just scroll down towards the bottom of the page to find all of the information. There is also a link in that description to the MKAL Ravelry thread, which is another great place to get immediate help.
I am having fun with this MKAL, and I love the colors so far. I would like to order the next color before you release the clue so when the clue is released I can go right to knitting that section. Please consider releasing the March and April colors soon so we can pre-order.
We appreciate the feedback.
