Hello, my sweet snowdrop! This week, I want to share with you this lovely sweater pattern, Solace. This gorgeous pattern was designed by Jane Vanselous, and I can’t wait to tell you more!

About Solace, Jane said, “Without a doubt, the colors of the Mysa Hues Pearlescent Fingering yarn kit spoke to me the moment that I first saw them. I just knew that I needed to create something with them. This Fair Isle pattern allows the colors to play off of one another, while the hand-dyed nature of the yarns gives the sweater a vintage feel. Its boxy fit and the softness of the yarn makes Solace a joy to wear.”

“Knit from the bottom up, the bulk of the Fair Isle design is knit first. The upper front and back of the sweater are divided at the underarms and knit separately before being joined at the shoulders with a three-needle bind off. Stitches are picked up to knit the sleeves in the round. The final step is to pick up and knit the neckband. No further seaming is required.”

Solace is an Advanced level pattern and is for the knitter who loves to tackle something a bit more complicated. Skills/concepts include: stranded colorwork knitting, garment construction, knitting both flat and in the round, reading charts, and completing a three-needle bind off. Previous experience with stranded colorwork knitting (Fair Isle) is recommended. Previous experience with dpns is helpful, as the sleeves are worked in the round on dpns.

This sweater can be adjusted by adding more rows before the colorwork section begins. The Size 2 sample shown has a length of 12”/30.5 cm from the bottom of the armhole to the front hem. The back hem drops an additional 3″/ 7.5 cm lower.

The sample shown used our Mysa Hues kit on our Pearlescent Fingering yarn. Our Pearlescent Fingering yarn is a dreamy and delightful fingering weight yarn. It is a mix of 50% Superwash Merino Wool and 50% Mulberry Silk.

Sample was made in Size 2 and used 950 yards total.

Please refer to the chart on page 4 in the pattern and the information in the Notes section for information on customizing the pattern and for the yardage needed per color. An additional skein of color C will be needed for sizes 7-10. The colors were worked A-E from left to right.

Note: It is very important to wash and block your swatch to check for color fastness before beginning your project.

We have filmed a video tutorial for you on the importance of a gauge swatch for fitted garments and Fair Isle knitting.
