Hello, my sweet gems! You asked for it, and we listened. I’m so glad to be able to share with you our gorgeous crochet version of our Nautile shawl this week!
Read on to hear me tell you all about Noël.
Johanna Huck, in her debut design for Expression Fiber Arts, says, “Whenever I think of the festive season, I imagine all the pretty Christmas decorations, especially Christmas tree ornaments. Noël, which is the French word for Christmas, reminds me of that season.“
This circular shape shawl features two repeating sections, a picot lace and a solid section imitating patterns that can be found on various Christmas baubles. By only increasing each section on one side, the shawl develops a spiral look which adds to the illusion of a sphere. The pattern offers two options to give the shawl a classy finish: a simple single crochet edge or a delicate 3 stitch, I-cord border.
Worked in Pearlescent Fingering, Noël exhibits drape and sheen to make it the perfect accessory for an evening dress or the little something that will upgrade your everyday outfit.
The sample shown used our Pearlescent Fingering yarn in Glad Tidings, and it used 1,010 yards (924 meters) total. It measures 42″ in diameter by 21″ in depth/radius (107 cm x 53 cm). Additional rows can be added, but additional yarn will be needed.
Take a look:
This pattern contains two different finishes, and its difficulty level is based on the shawl finish selected. This pattern starts at an Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate level, and crocheters will encounter a magic circle beginning, half double crochet v-stitch stitches, and picot stitches. The pattern also offers an alternate i-cord finished edge. The pattern contains both written and charted instructions.

I was wondering how many stitch markers are needed for this shawl?
You will need 6 stitch markers. 🙂
Hey there! What is your favorite brand for crochet hooks! I enjoy your patterns soooo much!! I switched my knitting needles to the ones you use an was hoping you could tell me what hooks you use. Also, do you do any Tunisian crochet? Looking for cabled hooks for that too lol.
Thank you so much!
Rachel
Hey! I love my little Susan Bates Hooks: https://www.amazon.com/shop/expressionfiberarts For some reason they work for me. 😊 I haven’t done any Tunisian crochet, though it is on my bucket list. Hope this helps a little.
I hope I can write my recommendation on which crochet hooks I like best.
Clover hooks have two different types of models but both have the special surface steel hook. That surface makes the crochet work so fast. The yarn does not hook up, it just floats on. Have tried lots of different crochet hooks.
I hope I do not step on any rules if I am not allowed to write, I will delete the post
Thanks for sharing!
Please help? At the end of row 2 on the printed pattern it says not to join…but in the video is stays to join that round???? I am really having a hard time with this and I am an experienced crocheter
Lori, yes, we put a little text in the video showing that it was my mistake to join. Do not join. The pattern is correct. 🙂
Hi! I’m Vida. I’m working on the Noel Shawl now and the right side seems to be getting longer than the left. I’m following the chart and guided by the text. I’m not sure if I’m doing it right. I’m almost half through. Would it be possible to ask for pictures of a halfway done shawl for reference? I would be douing 5 Noel shawls and this is just the first. I hope you can help me with this. I really love your patterns!
Unfortunately, we don’t have photos of the shawl in progress. The best place to look for something like that is on Ravelry. Go the pattern, and then on the right click the Projects to see other people’s Noël. You might find in-progress photos there.
I just finished this beautiful elegant Noel shawl In red.
The set up rows were a bit challenging for me but I really enjoyed crocheting this pattern. The yarn is so soft with rich color which results in an absolutely stunning shawl.
