Greetings, gorgeous! Today, I have a fabulous, top-down crochet top to tell you all about. It’s sweet and romantic with delicate details. I hope you’ll read on to learn more about the Kalaheo top!
Kalaheo was designed by Michelle Ferguson. When asked about this pattern, Michelle said, “I chose the name Kalaheo because it is a Hawaiian name that means ‘proud day,’ and that is exactly how I want every person who makes this garment to feel when they complete it. I decided to go with one main stitch for the tee because I loved the texture it created when turning in the round. I also added a picot style trim to the sleeves and bottom of the top. I hope you enjoy making Kalaheo as much as I enjoyed designing it!”
This Intermediate level pattern is for those who feel comfortable with crocheting and have made a few projects, using various skills and techniques. Skills/concepts include foundation single crochet and extended half double crochet (found in special stitches).
Kalaheo is offered in sizes XS (S, M, L) XL, 2X, 3X (4X, 5X), which corresponds to natural bust sizes: 30, (34, 38, 42) 46, 50, 54, (58, 60)” / 76, (86, 96.5, 106.5) 116.5, 127, 137, (147.5, 152.5) cm. Add approximately 2” (5 cm) of positive ease for final measurement.

I love this pattern and would love to buy it, but I get a 403 Access Forbidden Error from the website! Can you help? Thanks!
I would love to help! Here is the direct link: https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/kalaheo.html Let me know if this works for you. If it doesn’t, please write us here: https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/contact-us/ Thank you!
I would love to make this but sleeves scare me. Is there a tutorial?
Sandy, no need to fear the sleeves – they are mainly worked as you work the body of the sweater. And we show how to do the picot border for the sleeves in the video tutorial linked within the pattern. Thanks!
Very confused when reaching th armhole area. Pattern reads c1,turn,__ ehrc, skip __ sts. 1ehdc in next __ st, ???? So am I supposed to sl st these (skip) stitches l.l.pot stop and start again.
Jean, you will skip them, not slip stitch those sts. You want to create a loop that will be large enough to fit your arm through.
This is my first wearable item that’s no a scarf. Anytime I’ve worked in the round it doesn’t say to turn in the directions. Am I really working back and forth just joining the “ends”?
Tracey, yes, you do! Great question!
I need help/advise.
I meet gauge in ehdc with FSC foundation row for stitches (17sts = 4”) but not rounds. I get 9 rnds = 4” not 12.
What do I do? This is my first crocheted garment and I don’t know what I should do about the rounds discrepancy.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thank you
Sheryl
Generally, if you match the gauge for rows/rounds but not stitches, especially on a garment, go with the hook that gives you gauge for stitches because you can always crochet more rounds to add length if needed. Adding rounds will account for the tighter row/round gauge that you’re seeing, without making a wider top.
