Hello, Beautiful!
How can May be nearly over already?! Hard to believe. Well, guess what? We have a NEW crochet pattern to announce!
Villiers is a triangular shawl designed by Kristina Smiley. It is a simple triangle shawl with basic crochet stitches and subtle color changes. It is crocheted from the top down using the magic ring method to begin. This shawl is perfect if you are looking for a quick and easy project.
Have a watch! We have filmed a video tutorial for you on how to work this shawl:
The sample shown features our Sincere Sock Fingering weight yarn in Granite (A), Gray Pearl (B), and Clover (C). 1 skein each. You’ll need about 1200 yards of fingering weight yarn to complete the same size as shown.
Sincere Sock is 3-ply and a blend of 75% superwash merino wool (soft and lovely) and 25% nylon for added strength. It makes a great soft and long-lasting shawl!
If you’re on IG, be sure to post if you make this so we can see! #expressionfiberarts @expressionfiberarts

Love your patterns & yarn & YouTube videos — I think I’ve become a yarn snob. I don’t use acrylic yarns as much as I used to, preferring plant-based or animal-based yarns instead.
Thank you me lovely another beautiful shawl I’d like to see this done in reds take care keep safe x
Quick question about the color changes: do you carry the yarn or cut and weave the tails each time? The 6 gradient lines are giving me troubles. Thanks!
Amy, you can for sure carry the colors up the side loosely if there isn’t too much of a jump – but for longer color stripes, you’ll want to cut and weave in the ends. 🙂
I love the look of the shawl and eagerly started it…many, many times. I’m not a beginner but I find keeping count isn’t as easy as it’s supposed to be – especially since we’re crocheting into the base of a stitch using sock yarn and a size G hook. Me, personally, I think a chart would help so I did try to make one myself. I’ve also increased the “chain 1” in the middle to a “chain 2” so that I can see it more clearly. To be honest, I’m trying to figure out how to work it all from the bottom up rather than adding on – or “widening” the shawl at the top. Again, I DO love the look of the pattern, no question, but I do feel that I need to make adjustments for me, who has watched the video over and over as well. C’est la vie!
I’m sorry you’re struggling with the pattern so much.
I’m struggling also. I’ve restarted 4times. It’s a simple easy pattern but I can’t figure out why mine is a lopped sided triangle. I’ve even tried a larger hook with no luck. I thought maybe I wasn’t reading the pattern incorrectly. Not the case. It’s as if there needs to be more stitches per row. I’ve purchased over 10 patterns in the last six months and none of them are coming out right. I’m about to give up completely!!!
Hi Pamela,
I’m so sorry you’re struggling with our Villiers pattern so much. I wanted to make sure that your stitch count is correct before we try figuring out what’s going on. If that’s the case please reach out to Pam via the contact form at https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/contact-us/ and explain what’s happening. Once she replied you can attach a picture of your correct progress for better visual aide for us to understand what exactly is going on.
Once again, I’m sorry and am positive that we’ll be able to help you. – Johanna 💕
