Well, hello, beautiful one! Welcome! Fun news today – we have a VERY cool knitted shawl pattern for you which is totally customizable and ranges from beginner to advanced skill levels. You choose!
Tamsyn, designed for you by Kristina Smiley, is a progression shawl that is completely customizable depending on your skill level and willingness to be challenged. It begins with alternating rows of Garter and Stockinette Stitch using basic knit and purl stitches, then transitions to a more intermediate pattern with yarn overs and lace, and ends with a more complicated design using twisted stitches and mock cables.
You can choose to make the entire shawl using any of the three sections if you wish, or start with one, and progress to the next level that challenges your abilities. Tap into your creativity and make it as simple or complicated as you’d like.
We made a video for you, demonstrating the intermediate section. Have a look!
Color changes are made at the transition to each skill level but feel free to change colors whenever you like!
We used 1 Aspen Hues Alpaca Silk Dk kit to make this – all 3 skeins were used in total! 690 yards for the shawl shown.
If out of stock, just email us on the site to request that we dye more.
Learning new skills is always a pleasurable challenge for me. Creating this design was a very enjoyable experience. I really liked starting simple with basic stitches and getting more creative as the shawl design progressed. This design is akin to life which starts simple enough and gets more challenging as you grow. When you look back and see where you came from versus where you are now, you get a sense of accomplishment. That is the feeling that I was going for with this shawl.
You can download this little beauty here and while there, sign up for email updates so you get next week’s pattern! Most of our new knit and crochet patterns are free for a limited time only so you won’t want to miss out.
Have a delightful day and I’ll talk to ya soon. XOXO

Thankyou for another gem. Also thankyou for your comments deeply appreciated.
Thankyou Chandi for your comments. I truly appreciated your kindness. Thankyou for another gem of a pattern.
You are very welcome! ❤️
Merci! Merci! De votre très grande générosité!
what brand are the needles you use? I found it once, but for the life of me I cannot find it again? which kit would you recommend buying??
We tend to use Chiagoo Circular Kntting Needles. 😊
I just love your website and tutorials. You are so vivacious!! Thanks for the pattern, I’m thinking section 3 to challenge myself. See you next time☺
Chandi, you have inspired me since I found your youtube video of how to cast on! That was about a year ago and I now refer to your website as “porn”! I stay up late and my husband asks if I’m looking at porn, so it’s become a little joke between us! Question: can I use the Superwash Merino Silk Pearlescent Worsted for this pattern with a size 6 needle? or can use a 5 as is called for? I’m still learning about yarn weights. I have Tobacco, Wood Scent and Cinder purchased for this pattern….Thank you in advance and keep the inspirational quotes and thoughts coming! I look forward to your emails!!
Great idea! You can def use that yarn and needle combo!
Have you done a video tutorial for section 3 of the Tasman Shawl? The You Tube videos I’m finding for the T2L, T2R, C2L and C2R seem different from the Special Stitches instructions
We haven’t done a tutorial on the advanced section yet. We are planning on doing that. : )
Can you suggest You Tube videos for the T2L, T2R and the C2L, C2R? I am at the 3rd section of the pattern and anxious to finish. Thank you in advance!
We don’t have a video currently, but hopefully we will be able to get to that section soon. ❤️
I also am at the beginning of section 3, and I can’t even wrap my brain around the special stitches and what they are asking us to do. Are we supposed to be using a cable needle? Or just working with two needles? I’m on T2R and can’t progress any further until I figure this out.
Margaret, happy to help! Please do reach to our pattern support here and we’ll be delighted to assist! https://www.expressionfiberarts.com/contact-us/
Diann, have you found any tutorials that worked for you? I am beginning section 3 but the instructions don’t seem to work for me
Will you be getting more Aspen Hues Alpaca Silk DK? My gauge must be off as I’m coming up short in making Tamsyn
We will at some point! Thank you for checking!
I am coming up short as well. Gauge is pretty close. What did you wind up doing to correct?
Is there a video yet for the advanced section? The written instructions for the special stitches are different than what I’m finding in other videos.
We haven’t had a chance to film it yet. I’m sorry!
